I like the art in those Matatus but sometimes the music can be too loud. For me it will good riddance as the operators of those Matatus are way too rude and uncouth.

Its not the art or culture they are trying to kill or make us conform to an international blue print. Its just a study that was conducted on how to improve transport within the city for sustainability purposes. I think we can all agree as the population grows, there will be no space for matatus but for a more efficient and effective mode of transport. But lucky for you, if the plan is implemented, the matatus can still migrate to other cities and towns and you can get a ride from there.

But I get your point, if you are not living in Nairobi or Kenya at the moment, Matatus can give you a certain kind of nostalgia just like nyama choma does. He is only 10 years old, but he has brushed shoulders and exchanged views with very important persons.

Suheil Hamada is one of the top junior golfers in the country.

He was barely five when he swung his first golf club.

"I used to play with my plastic golf clubs," said the Standard Five pupil at Jaffery Academy, Mombasa.

"I really admired my elder brother Said Hamada when he was playing and that inspired me to also play golf," Suheil told Generation Next.

With the encouragement and support of his parents and training under professional golfer, Jimmy King’ori, Suheil has risen to the top of junior golfing in the country.

He has competed in various tournaments organised by companies and inter-school competitions with good results.

"Golf helps me to relax and cope with my academic work. I perform well in school, as it does not interfere with my studies. I am always among the top three in my class," said Suheil.

He says golfing is not meant for rich people, contrary to popular belief, and any youngster can play and excel.

"When I grow up, I would like to be like Tiger Woods," he confesses.

(Tiger Woods, an American, was the youngest man to become a top international professional golfer).

Since the formation of the junior golf foundation in 1996, golf amateurs up to age 18 have come up to build a strong golfing nation.

Suheil has some big shoes to fit into, but with his determination to become like Woods, the sky is the limit for this young golf star.

Next time try using the Mai Mahiu Road from Naivasha to Nairobi. The scenery is spectacular and serene. The road is also newer and wider until you get to those winding sharp bends after mai mahiu town but the scenery is fantastic especially historic church, the Great rift view near Kijabe and the many baboons on the roadside. The downside is its a little longer, you arrive 20 minutes later and has many trucks which you have to keep overtaking.

I don't know why I've always assumed that you have to pass through Garissa to get to Mandera. Most of us who come from the southern parts of the country know so little about the north apart from what we learnt in geography lessons.

I remember watching some TV footage on a plane crash in Marsabit and was surprised to see that the place was green, and from the look of my friends faces it looked like we had all along imagined that the place was a desert.

St Mary’s High will once again represent Nairobi Province in rugby at the national secondary school games in Eldoret next week.

They whitewashed Nairobi School 29-0 during the provincial games finals on Saturday. And the Saints coach, Moses Wanyaga, praised his team. "It is because they worked hard, and there is no two ways about it," said Wanyaga.

"What separates us from other schools is the structure in our game. This has come about due to the amount of work we put in during training," he said.

The coach praised the team saying they were talented. "We have some good players in the team.

The Saints boast of three players who feature in the national under-20 squad, and five others do participate at the club level. They include Anthony Nyadigisi, Anthony Oyugi and David Wachira.

Sevens nationals

"David Ambunya has been outstanding this season as he emerged man-of-the-tournament in four major schools’ competitions — Blackrock, sevens provincials, Sevens nationals and the Nairobi 15s provincials. "There is no stopping this character who has taken the rugby scene by storm."

St Mary’s are the reigning national Sevens champions which means they will travel to the Dubai Sevens schools’ category in December, hence break the Western Province monotony.

"It’s good we will get a chance to prove that we are not only good in Kenya, but also out there," said Wanyaga.

Saints currently boast of over 60 players per training session with students as young as 13 years old in the fray waiting to be the next stars.

Tell me about it. I watched a trailer overturn as it lost balance when it hit a real crater on the road. Thank God thats history and I hope it stays that way.

Yes, the whites but the numbers are not so large. Well, there are also Kenyan cowboys (KC's) in the area so its not very easy to tell who is who (unless you maybe use Swahili to differentiate the two).

The other major one in 1983 wasn't this bad. I can't remember seeing every part of the highlands turn brown like it did this time. Even mount Kilimanjaro nearly lost all its snow. I will post pics I took on the plane from Dar to Nairobi of the mountain later.
