CB31 will be metamorphosed ! This project is a formidable technical prowess for bouygues construction. Indeed, the core will be rebuilt by the top !!

Axa moves out:
AXA Insurance quietly vacated their namesake tower in La Défense last November, in one of the largest and swiftest company headquarters move ever (for France at least).

The move lasted from Thursday November 23 to Tuesday November 28 and saw the relocation of 3,200 AXA headquarter employees from the 159 m (522 ft) AXA Tower to AXA's new mid-rise headquarters located behind the Grand Arche. The 5-day headquarters relocation required the help of 300 movers and a total of 650 trips in moving vans.

Looks like an improvement to me. The old one looked very... 70's.

Yeah you can usually tell what's from the 70's, not just buildings, everything has a different vibe so to say...

To get to the point, the old one looked ugly as hell, the new one looks great.

It's a really nice building, but someone deserves a slap for the similarity to The Pinnacle. It looks like it's the same tower an extra side bit attached. Still really nice though.

I always liked the axle-star shaped design. The only thing I disliked was the muddy brown glass. i'm glad the facade is turning that colour.

Do the reconstruction plans of the AXA Tower include demolishing the upper 5 floors of a wing of the tower?Yes, partially. The building is in 3 wings. The top of the southern wing will be slightly demolished to make appear a sloping roof on 5 floors, the top of Northeast wing will be slightly heightened with another sloping roof on 5 floors, and the Northwest wing will be heightened even more. As a result, the three wings, which currently ends at the same height, will all end at a different height.

Shame. I preferred it as it was. The render of the renovated tower makes it look so generic, although I can't fault a height increase.

The new cladding and shape of this tower will be fresh and modern , so glad to see it being renovated , the best skylines of EU so far , I love the density of LD , waiting to see a few 300m towers in the future !

Its a great project.. Final cladding will be awesome. Hopefully I will go to Paris in April and I could see the project with my eyes.

I looked at the tower's French Wikipedia article and the Tour AXA had been given a new name as of September 2008: the Tour First. Is this news even true?

Yes it will be higher, the first roof you can see taking shape is only the lower. The tower will 225m at final.

According to the most recent photos, the old cladding has been taken down in full and the floorplates of the original portion of the original tower may have been increased slightly. I don't know when the new cladding will be installed, that will probably happen when the skeleton of the reconstructed tower is completed.

The CB21 Tower in one of the photos is being renovated into a HGE (France's version of LEED) -certified green building without any height extensions. The project to extend the height to 275 metres has been abandoned.

I mean Moscow city is kinda new when La Defense is 50 yeers old and quite dense with more than 30 towers.

Interesting design, fits it's location.

I never really liked La Defense. I hate it when older cities try to gain a modern skyline. It always thought it clashed. One of the pics above changed my mind. La Defense and Paris look perfect together. Congrats on the building!

A nice design indeed although the actual cladding disappointed many. Good for La Defense to get something else than a flat roof.

I like the shape of the roof and think it fits in great with la defence. A great addition to the Paris skyline!

It wasn't! they have made many structural reinforcements in order to support the aditional 20.000 tons and to prevent the tower to twist on itself and down, as its mass is shifted on one wing (the elevated one), it moves the center of gravity and with the elasticity of the concrete the tower structure can theoretically react like this.
In the foundations they added 1 meters thick and 15 meters high concrete walls. Also the walls of the core were thickened by 20cm, and to avoid "layering effect", that is to say a sliding motion between the two layers, these have been secured by imposing steel hooks, sealed in the original layer.

^^Fascinating! It had never occurred to me just how much would have to be done to the existing structure to prepare it for the addition.

the best thing about this building is the shape. IMO the cladding is aweful.

Great improvement to La Defense, well done Paris! Emporis reports the redeveloped tower at a height of 225m although the thread tiltle states 240m. Does anyone know which one is correct?

emporis use the architectural height.Don't use roof height.Because Sapphire of Istanbul roof height 236 m spire height 261 m.Emporis is use the 261 m.

This will be a fantastic addition to the Paris skyline - looks really sleek already. Much needed 200m+ tower for la defense.

The spire was dropped out .
However , final height was slightly increased ; the correct number is 231m
