Vancouver 2010 Threatened By Activists
Posted 11:25 am ET (GamesBids.com)

The Anti Poverty Committee (APC) is threatening to disrupt Vancouver 2010’s May 16 board meeting unless it is opened to the public, reports Sun Media.

APC’s David Cunningham said, “we don’t want to get to that point, we just want them to open their meetings. It’s not a far-out demand”.

Cunningham said it’s the public’s right to be in the boardroom. British Columbia’s Auditor-General said the Games and related projects are costing taxpayers $2.5 billion.

VANOC management is studying ways to make the board more transparent.

Cunningham reportedly said Vancouver 2010 organizers needn’t worry about the group disrupting meetings if the doors are opened. “We don’t need to go all the way out there to be lied to”.

VANOC’s board meeting March 13 at its city hall-owned east Vancouver headquarters was held in secret, report Sun Media.

Cunningham was charged with mischief when he jumped onstage at the Feb. 12 Olympic countdown clock ceremony.

This forum seems to be busier now that you're back X :okay: How was your trip?!

This Cunningham tossbag is unbelievable, how in the hell does he expect VANOC to trust him after his and his group's antics in the past?

The shopping, entertainment, and food was awesome.....but then.....you've got heavy pollution, stench, filthy sidewalks, and i'd say 90% of the buildings are actually runned down and brown and filthy.....not the same postcard images you see with Two International Finance Centre or the convention centre or the HSBC building (which i must say, all three are very nice).

The MTR and buses also makes Vancouver's SkyTrain and buses look like toy trains and toy buses. The train light maps were awesome, signage, concourse, turnstiles, trains in general, even the maps are better and much clearer.....everything. The announcements are also awesome, announcing everything in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English:

"Next station, Central"
"Please mind the gap between the station and the platform"
"Interchange station for the ----- Line and bus to -------"
"The train to ----- is approaching"
"Eating or drinking on the MTR is prohibited by law"
"Please stand back from the doors" *doors close*

The fare machines were awesome and so much simpler than SkyTrain's. It's a three step process:

1) Press on your destination (station) on the machine's map.
2) Select adult/child/senior on the screen.
3) Put in your money.
4) Take out your fare card from the slot.

But I was quite appalled when I heard the automated MTR station announcements say: "Please keep the passages clear by not giving money to the beggars."

The HK airport was awesome....and the people mover was soooo cool. I love the new Sky Plaza's wavy roof (HK airport's new shopping centre).

I'm gonna have to say one big mistake YVR made was the international terminal check-ins. There isn't enough space....that corridor should be two times wider. And the arrivals area is also way too small.....something like 4x what we have now is more appropriate. I don't know how they're going to accommodate future needs. It's getting quite crowded already.

I also saw the new international terminal expansion wing....looks quite good.

Yea, it was fun.

Anyway, if they think they can pull off another bus union walk-in (or bus something, can't remember) into a Translink meeting, think again. Nobody responds to terrorists.

Glad you had a great time! Their transit system sounds awesome.
