Bueno ahora los invito a Central Harlem. Estas fotos fueron tomadas en Octubre de el 2006. Harlem se un vecindario bien grande y se esta convirtiendo mas caro cada dia. Mucha de la gente pobre que vivian en los 70's y hasta los 90's en Harlem se estan mudando cada dia porque esta muy caro. Para muchos la renta controlada es una ayuda muy buena, pero los que no tienen ese gusto tienen que mudarse de el area. La gente con dinero estan comprando muchisimo. Hoy en dia muchos de los edificios que eran abandonados se estan arreglando y hay una cantidad de nueva construcion. Bueno a mi me encato Harlem y espero que les encante tambien. :)


Harlem

A Mecca for African-American culture and life for more than a century, Harlem started out as Nieuw Haarlem, a prosperous Dutch farming settlement. By the turn of the 20th century, black New Yorkers started moving uptown into Harlem's apartment buildings and town houses. The neighborhood prospered and by the 1920s, Harlem had become the most famous black community in the United States, perhaps in the whole world. The Harlem Renaissance, generally regarded as occuring between 1919 and 1929, was Harlem's golden era, when local writers such as Zora Neale Hurston, W.E.B. DuBois, Langston Hughes, and Ralph Ellison achieved literary recognition. The Depression hit hard here, but happily, today the neighborhood is well on the way to new glory days: Young people and families are moving into the newly restored brownstone and limestone buildings, and the combination of architectural treasures, crackling vitality (even Bill Clinton chose Harlem for his post-presidential office!), great music and culture, and honest-to-goodness, lip-smacking soul food make Harlem a must-see destination. Harlem is safe to explore on your own but there are a number of tour companies that will happily show you around.

Harlem ha cambiado mucho para bien desde esas décadas perdidas que tuvo. Se ve muy limpio, ordenado y próspero ese barrio.

Me encanto Harlem se ve muy limpio y parece que va mejorando con el tiempo.

Muy elegante, es increible que una de las ciudades mas avanzadas tecnologicamente tenga una caparazon arquitectonicamente hablando, "clasica".

WOW Increible como está renaciendo Central Harlem, hace un tiempo vi un documental sobre esta parte de New York y se veia bastante mal, ahora solo veo nuevos edificios por doquier, y carros lujosos. Como me gustaría visitar esta fascinante ciudad algún dia.

estas fotos me prducen nostalgia, cuando llegue a este pais mi primera residencia fue justamente en ese barrio, gracias me trajo recuerdos muy bonitos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

¿Qué no Harlem era el "barrio negro, pobre, marginal y peligroso" de la ciudad de Nueva ****?.

por lo que vi las fotos, no hay ni un auto viejo o destartalado.

Lindo lugar, no me lo imaginaba asi..

Lindas fotografías. El lugar, a pesar que a lo largo del tiempo se le ha hecho mucha mala fama por ser pobre e inseguro, se ve muy lindo, cuidado y transitable. Se nota que ha crecido mucho gracias a la inversión en los últimos tiempos.

Las calles anchas, los edificios mantienen cierta altura uniforme, las manzanas poseen compacidad; formando un ambiente muy agradable y muy típico neoyorquino.

Si alguna vez hacés algún otro paseo por Nueva York (como vivís ahí), te recomiendo ir a la zona conocida como Upper East Side, es decir al este del Central Park. Todo el eje comprendido en la Quinta Avenida, Madison, Park Avenue, entre la 68 y 110 aproximadamente, es una zona muy elegante de New York, por no decir la mejor y digna de un thread fotográfico para compartir aquí.
