Activist charged in Olympic clock vandalism
Wednesday, April 04 - 04:20:00 PM Jim Goddard
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Downtown Eastside Residents Association was outraged when the police raided their office looking for the stolen Olympic Flag.
Now there's a connection between DERA and an act of Olympic vandalism.
Vancouver police constable Tim Fanning says 43 year old Garvin Snider faces a mischief charge.
It's in connection with the Olympic countdown clock in front of the Art Gallery being spray painted in March.
"It happened at 1:30 in the afternoon. Eight stencils of "Free Betty" were painted in black paint on the clock."
Snider has been released with several conditions, including staying away from the Olympic clock and not going to any Olympic events.
Snider is the manager of a building operated by the Downtown Eastside Residents Association.
Association executive director Kim Kerr says the arrest will not affect Sniders employment.
He says DERA considers Snider innocent unless proven guilty, and that the case is a matter between the police and Mister Snider.
