Many people from Israel can get in to Lebanon because the majority of Israel population deserves to European passport.

Btw, according to the Israeli law, If an Israeli get into an enemy country such as Syria and Lebanon he will loose his Israeli citizenship:ohno: .

Hassoun, nobody wants GREATER ISRAEL.. only insane people believe in that, most of those people live in the settlements in the most dangerous places at the West bank such as Hebron. those people is such a minority in Israel that they even didn't get 1 seat at the Israeli parliament.
Most of the people in Israel want peace and normalization.

I would love to go this summer...Last time I was there was in Sept. '03 so it's been a while. I had actually purchased my ticket last year ONE DAY before the war broke out and so I obviously had to cancel that. Hopefully nothing crazy happens this summer and I can go...
I would love to meet up with people from this forum if we are there at the same time!

As for the ticket prices, I paid US$2,100 on my last trip there and last year, the "cheapest" ticket that I could find was 2200 from Houston. This year, it looks like it's going to be even more. :ohno:

The thing with the ticket prices to Beirut is that there is always such high demmand (espcially from the Americas and Australia) that the airlines carriers know they can charge pretty much whatever they want, and people will pay.
Right befoere the war last year, there were about 45 airlines serving Beirut and there was still a high demmand to fly into BEY!

Hope to go there this summer and see some of you folks out there!

Cheers,
TangoLima

I know, but what are the chances such a thing could happen again? Especially now after Paris III and the UNIFIL's large presence there.

Anyway, lets stay positive and everything will be fine this summer...besides you arent helping tourism with that mindset!

I think Lebanon is safe now, because there are cops everywhere on the street..
Although Downtown is almost dead, I hear Verdun area is now full of people.

Hamra was okay but not so attractive to me.
I recommend u go out of Beirut and visit other cities too, such as Tripoli, Jounieh, Batroun, etc.
They have a good night life and real good old part of Lebanon.

Fox Tail- what did you think of Batourn ?

I have only been to Batroun once,
and it was a beautiful Christian-style town with lots of old architecture.
There is also a beautiful small castle.

It represents real good part of Lebanon and I liked it!

Although I went there in daytime
it would be nicer to go at night.

I hear there is a good night club called "Taiga" there
and many famous singers visit it there.

Anyway, I wish you a good vacation in Lebanon!

^^ The color of the deck was light blue, but the rest of your description is about right lol!

I remember it being green on the last floor, cuz when I woke up I had green oil paint stuck on my face...But I think the first story was blue indeed... We went to Turkey and the Israelis made the boat do a huge path before setting course to turkey. There were 2 toilets (holes in the ground actually) I don't want to go in details but not many people aimed for the holes LOL and there were 350 people indeed!!! We had to buy our water and they would take is 1$ Just 1$ not 5$ not 10$ not even a 100$ but one!!! So if you had no change you drank hot hot water. No one spoke english, french or arabic, only turkish. After the trip was over some Canadian "health officials" were waiting for us in Mersin (if I recall well) Turkey. Everyone was blue, yellow or purple and they though it was because of the war... So I took the liberty of clarifying that it was because of the friggin boat so I started screaming at the officials LOL.
If we had known, we would have stayed in Lebanon, we only left because we didn't want to be stuck for work. We were having the best time ever!!!I had 2 french and a canadian friend with me. They didn't want to leave either.
Lebanon is just such a great country and the Lebanese are just so resilient. In the middle of a war we were having 100 time as much fun as I ever had in Montreal.

^^ You were evacuated to the US? The Orient Queen is a Lebanese cruise ship that was chartered by the US in addition to its military ships and some pathetic ferries. Not many people were as lucky as you!!!

i spoke to somebody that was actaully in the south and well he said that every minute there were bombings, and it was real dangerous over there, i mean way more dangerous than beirut, one of my friends home was actually destroyed in soor, so yes. By the way On the 3th day of the war I went to the DOHA...it was beautifull over there, we could still hear Some bombings, but not as much becuase the first bombing that occured was right next to our house, i mean im telling you it was right next to the grocery store that i always buy from, and actually it was the second bombing cuz the first was in the airport. And while i was in the middle of the sea, in the airplane, that was when the war started so i feel lucky that i actually got to go to lebanon this year

I ask because my old city here in germany lost a family (my grandparents live still there). maybe you hear it. Only the son of the family survived.
I know the family not personally but I know them from their shop in the city, and their car hous, my grandpa buys his car by the Khachabs.

I was shocked, they were many years not in Lebanon and then that.
I personal would stay in my country, but this family try to leave but they couldnt because of a destroyed bridge. Thats the reason why I say you guys had luck, because some of you wish they could stay there at that time, otherone try it and couldnt.

Yes I understand what you mean and I am very sorry for your friend. I wish him the best of luck. It just happened to be Israel's tactics to destroy any tranportation route which happened to be The bridges and the airport. The first bridge to actually be destroyed was right next to my house, I would walk there everyday it was Two minutes away, luckly we were not struck. I am sorry for the people who tried to get out of lebanon and were killed in the process. I was going to go out of lebanon through syria with one of my friends , I really didnt want to, I wanted to stay in my country, but I was forced to, but then later on I was able to go in the Orient Queen, a evacuating cruise from lebanon to cyprus. My friends were lucky and actually got away from the south to syria, and then took an airplane from there. They were lucky but not every one was, so I really wish the best to your friend. How old is he?

you mean the son of the family, who survived.
dont know, I think Ahmet is maybe 10. hes back in germany, his uncle is here.

His sis was 13 or 14, and his mom was pregnant :-(

u'll have no trouble finding ur way around..AUB is in the middle of beirut, and realy easy to find whatver u want, besides all pubs/clubs/cafes etc...are generaly located in one of 3 streets (Monot st. , Gemayzeh, Bliss St.), all of which are a stone's throw away.

Come what may, Lebanese keep coming home :)

BEIRUT: The current security instability in the country seems to have provided little deterrence to some Lebanese - mostly expatriates - seeking to visit the country for a summer break as they continue to land at Rafik Hariri International airport everyday.

George Kojak, 33, a Lebanese businessman living in Dubai, arrived in Lebanon donning a large smile, even though his stay would only last for two days. His trip is business-oriented, but he will still visit his family, who apparently encouraged him to come regardless of the circumstances.

He expressed his willingness to return to Lebanon when things improve, and one hopes that his family will push him to stay permanently when improvement arrives.

There were others on the same flight simply coming to Lebanon for entertainment. Roula Hussia, 28, a financial reporter of mixed Lebanese and Palestinian origin, stated that she had planned her trip to Lebanon knowing the risks, and decided that the trip was still worth it. "Everyone wants to come to Lebanon, even during these troubled times," Hussia said.

"It is split between those who are currently planning a visit, and between those who are still debating it, but in the end they all would like to head back here," she added.
http://www.dailystar.com.lb

Wafa Assaf, 42, is a utility professional living in Edmonton, Alberta. She had not visited Lebanon in 30 years, but still decided to visit Lebanon this summer, despite the problems.

"I want my children to understand where they come from, what their heritage is, what their mother country is like, and, of course, to meet their extended family members," she said.

Raja Kamaleddine left Lebanon and settled in Canada when she married in 1980 a Canadian-Lebanese man who immigrated to Canada in 1961.

Kamaleddine is currently a businesswoman who owns a chain of restaurants across Canada, and returned to Lebanon to see family, who encouraged her to visit.

"Honestly we would like to keep our business in Canada," she said. "[But] our return to Lebanon is very likely if the situation becomes more stable, and we would probably spend at least half the year here. But in the end we would like to keep our restaurant."

The arrivals area at the airport was packed, which might potentially fool people into thinking that all is well outside the airport's walls.

Plus i dont think it will take 10 years..I think we will be back up to 2 mill next year..Look at the lady who hasnt been to Lebanon in over 30 years..she wanted to come back and show her children...Most immigrants do not have that attachment..The Lebanese are 90% attached no matter nhow long and where you are...as i said this year will be the tell all..If we pass thru this people will rush back ..ITS boom time again..and we will all be busy with the project updates!

They'll search/ask u questions based on your name even.... there was a misprint on a e-ticket when I flew to Chicago with some friends, and my friend ended up being pulled out of line, taken into a room and asked questions. They'll also do it even if you have a pencil in your backpack (when they screen it). What did they do in the search or did they at least tell u why they were doing it (if u don't mind me asking)? I can understand that happening in Turkey, but the whole JFK thing sounds unfair and wrong.
