City to allot P300-M for old market rehab

Sunday, April 10, 2011

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Local officials here are willing to spend more than P300 million to rehabilitate the San Fernando old public market "in the name of competition."

Councilor Alex Patio, also chairman of the City Council’s committee on appropriations, said such a huge budget will be used to transform the public market into a three-storey building with parking space on the top floor.

Post your online prayers for Japan earthquake victims

“We’ll rebuild it like a mall,” Patio said in a chance interview. The proposed budget for the market’s reconstruction was based on an estimate made by engineers in 2005. Patio said the reconstruction expenses could be bigger now.

The idea of rebuilding the old public market came after the controversial construction of another SM City mall at the city proper.

Some oppositors said the new mall may ruin the image of the city’s heritage district while others said it will greatly affect the livelihood of vendors at the old public market.

However, city officials were not able to stop the construction since mall administrators have complied with all of the business requirements of the city.

The new mall will be the second chain of the giant mall in the city. Their first mall, SM City Pampanga, started operations in 2001.

Cushion the impact

Patio said the rebuilding of the old public market is the City Government’s primary measure in cushioning the impact of possible loss of revenues to local market vendors once the new mall starts to operate.

“If we will rebuild the public market, the vendors there will be able to compete against the mall since their place would be similar to the mall already,” Patio said.

The councilor said marketgoers would rather go to the mall where they can conveniently shop rather than go to a wet and dry market.

“This way, we’ll be able to give our consumers a choice. They can either go to the mall or to the public market which looks like a mall,” Patio said.

Budget

However, Patio admitted the City Government cannot shoulder all of the more than P300-million budget for the market’s reconstruction.

“If we use all the money the city government has to rebuild the market, then other basic social services will be sacrificed,” Patio said.

Patio said the city government will probably get a loan with low interests from state-run banks.

As long as the amount can be justified, Patio assured that the City Government would get the budget for the reconstruction.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This article says that the City Government could'nt possibly stop SM building a new mall in the City as the complied with all the neccessary procedure and regulations. It is really good that the City is going to do something to save the market area because it will suffer greatly once the Mall is built! Hopefully this measure will be carried out quickly!! i hope the new SM will be different from the render on here as it is butt ugly pls say they changed it or the city made them change it!!! :):ohno::)

Mabalacat-Clark: Your gateway to the world
RENDEZVOUS By Christine S. Dayrit (The Philippine Star)

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” Voltaire’s keystone maxim simply suggests that we see things beyond what we look at.

Our late dad Vincent Dayrit divulged to us siblings before he died 14 years ago that he envisioned it would take short of a decade for his beloved province Pampanga and its environs to embrace unprecedented progress and development. He also said that from the ashes caused by the explosion of Mt. Pinatubo, a promising future would emerge.

The dazzling diamonds that signify beauty and grace were formed by tremendous heat and pressure just like a scenic caldera is formed when the volcanic movement sends its vent crashing down as pyroclastic debris are ejected from the fiery bowels. Yes, the most enchanting beauty can be borne from adversity.

A trip north of Manila last month took me to a precious tourist destination in Central Luzon — Mt. Pinatubo, led by my brother Mark, brother-in-law Pael Romualdez, design planner Kenny Quintal and 10 Japanese entrpreneurs who intended to study how we as a nation coped with the disaster of Mt Pinatubo’s explosion. The Japanese contingent specifically came to learn about disaster management and recovery. They were impressed with what they saw and enlightened by what they learned. With the recent natural double-catastrophe that hit Japan, we received word that the lessons they learned from their trip to Pinatubo are helping them cope. Our indefatigable tour leader, Guy “Indra” Hilbero, who has trekked this area 42 times as head of the Mabalacat Tourism Council, established the four routes to reach the most amazing spots here. His work includes a collaboration with Robbie Tantingco, director of Center for Kapampangan studies, Holy Angel University on the book entitled “A Volcano in Our Backyard” This will be launched on June 15, 2011 on the 20th anniversary of the Pinatubo eruptions. Guy shared that the infamous volcano that erupted in 1991 after centuries of dormancy is recorded as the biggest and most destructive volcanic eruption in the recent years. He said that nature has a graceful way of correcting its own wrath as we prepared to trek to the crater to view the tranquil and majestic 2.5-km crater-lake.

Fort Stotsenburg, the former name of Clark Air Field, was established by the US Cavalry in 1902.
What used to be a five-hour hike has been conveniently reduced to an hour. The natives called Aetas, the original inhabitants of these lands, serve as your gracious guides for the trek as they narrate interesting stories of survival. They have chosen to remain here and live a life detached from material desires. They espouse their amazing belief that everything here is alive and take their role as stewards of the environment seriously. We have much to learn from them.

The spectacular scenery of gigantic boulders, exotic plants, rolling terrains of verdant greens, romantic streams, gurgling brooks, various rock formations may remind you of Switzerland, New Zealand, Grand Canyon and Sedona in Arizona. Some of the trekkers exclaimed it is like being in shangri-la or finding your lost horizon. You can also take the Cessna flights that hover above the volcano and its vistas.

Upon viewing the emerald-turquoise waters that sparkle from the dint of the sun, one can’t help but be amazed by how one’s sense of fatigue or weariness suddenly dissipates at this marvelous sight. One surmises one is in wonderland, in a sanctuary of magical healing. One can swim in these calm waters but due to the sulphur content, fish cannot survive. From the dramatic crevices, steam emanates like gentle smoke towards the heavens. Mt. Pinatubo can be reached from the Crow Valley nearby, where the bombing and gunnery range of the American forces used to be. Today, it is the gateway to one of Mother Nature’s most spectacular treasures.

“Mabalacat has much more to be proud of as it prepares to be a component city this year,” said the dynamic Mabalacat Mayor Mariano “Boking” Morales after the trek. He revealed that Mabalacat became a town in 1712 thus they were preparing to celebrate the town’s 400th anniversary. He further added, “We have a comprehensive land use plan and master plan. We have the spacious Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA), the Clark Freeport Zone, investment and incentive opportunities, several parks, lush trees, lots of new infrastructure and world class hotels.”

Serenity at its finest: The 2.5-m crater lake of Mt Pinatubo is a must-visit attraction.
The premier address to stay here is in the well-appointed Holiday Inn Clark, in close proximity to the 36-hole Mimosa Golf and Country Club. Just five minutes drive from the DMIA, this 299-key hotel evocative of an elegant colonial mansion has a huge palm tree-lined outdoor pool, which, together with its posh spa, commands rest and relaxation. Over a hearty lunch of exotic and delectable Brazilian spit roasts featuring a selection of mouthwatering certified Angus Beef steaks and Mongolian barbecue at the Rodizio Roof Top Grill of Holiday Inn, we learned more about synergy of Mabalacat and Clark. This famous roof top grill also boasts a walk-in wine cellar that will surely make even the most discerning wine connoisseur sated.

Did you know that 95 percent of Clark is located inside Mabalacat? EVP of Clark Development Corp. Philip Panlilio welcomed us to his office. We learned that Mabalacat-Clark, the gateway to the world, is fast emerging as a globally competitive, logistically efficient location for information and communication, technology aviation, industrial, business and tourism. Almost the size of Singapore, Clark lies 80 km. north of Manila, 90 minutes’ drive along the North Luzon Expressway. You can reach Subic within a 45-minute drive and the Hacienda Luisita in Tarlac in 15 minutes via the scenic Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway. A natural entry point to the Asia Pacific Region, Clark is only a three-and-a-half-hour flying time away from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, Korea and other key points in Asia. With increasing flights by Air Asia (South East Asia’s) largest budget carrier at Diosdado Macapagal International Airport and over 60 flights a week to date, DMIA is expected to be the premier international gateway where the airbus 380 can land.

Other attractions here are the Global Gateway Logistics City (GGLC) comprised of 177 hectares with over four million square meters space available. It is bigger than Fort Bonifacio and the Makati Central Business District with an initial investment of $2 billion from Kuwait Gulf Link 2. The former Expo Filipino has been transformed into the Clark Education City. Billion dollar business conglomerates like UPS, Texas Instruments, Phoenix Semiconductors (a subsidiary of Samsung) and more have chosen Clark as the hub of operations.

There is also the “Next Frontier,” the 10,684-hectare vast expanse of land adjacent to the Clark Freeport Zone, which is ideal for tourism, light industrial, agro-industrial and commercial development. For decades, Clark Air Base was the largest base outside mainland USA. It was established by the US Cavalry in 1902 as Fort Stotsenburg. Today graceful old homes with large verandas called barn houses by the former occupants are well preserved to remind visitors of the grandeur of Fort Stotsenburg.

America’s First Hero of World War II: Capt. Colin Kelly, Jr.

In retrospect, Mabalacat, once a settlement of a Negrito tribe that occupied an area inhabited by virtual forests of balacat trees four centuries ago has evolved into the dynamic and progressive haven that it is. Make the time to visit this booming and progressive soon-to-be-city, under the leadership of Pampanga Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda and Mayor Morales, and discover the many wonderful activities and possibilities of this dynamic place. Mayor Morales added, “At the rate we’re going, we can be Manoma or Makati North of Manila in the near future. This is our vision. We must dream big.”

There is so much more in store. Mabalacat is one destination that is better experienced than explained.

Dad was right after all.

Kapampangan is the native language (Amanung Sisuan in the native tongue) of Pampanga and some towns in Tarlac.

It is now the seventh largest indigenous dialect in Twitter, with 355 tweeting in the Amanung Sisuan. Kapampangans was notable for being the first Philippine language on the site, which includes 82 languages from around the world. (Mark Anthony Manuel)

SM Cinema to open more IMAX
theaters; to go digital
SM Cinema, the country’s
largest movie exhibitor, is set
to open two more IMAX
Theaters this year, as
audiences are apparently
willing to pay extra in order
to experience state-of-the-art,
three-dimension (3D) digital
movie entertainment.
Edgar C. Tejerero, senior vice-
president for SM Cinema, said an
IMAX Theater will be opened in
SM Southmall in Las Piñas by
July to cater to Metro Manila
residents from that area, while
film buffs from Central Luzon
will soon enjoy the IMAX
experience when a theater opens
in SM Clark in Pampanga by
December.
Mr. Tejerero said SM Cinema
also plans to open IMAX
Theaters in SM Davao and SM
Megamall in Mandaluyong by
next year, as part of their plans
to encourage more people to
watch movies in theaters rather
than at home.
"Based on our studies, people go
to the movie houses because
they want the larger-than-life
experience of watching movies
on large screens," the company
official told reporters last week.
"That is why we plan to open
more IMAX Theaters to give
what the audiences want."
WHAT IS IMAX?
IMAX (short for Image
MAXimum) is a motion picture
film format and projection
standard created by Canada’s
IMAX Corp. IMAX has the
capacity to record and display
images of far greater size and
resolution than conventional film
systems.
IMAX technology can recreate
moving images in the third
dimension (thus the term 3D),
which gives the illusion of depth
as seen by the viewer.
A standard IMAX screen is 22
meters (72 feet) wide and 16.1
meters (53 feet) high, making
IMAX the technology of choice
for large-format, special-venue
film presentations.
SM Cinema opened the
country’s first IMAX Theater at
the SM Mall of Asia in 2006. It
then opened IMAX Theaters in
SM North EDSA, Quezon City in
2009, and in SM Cebu last year.
"The IMAX Theaters opening in
SM Southmall and SM Clark are
uniquely equipped with IMAX’s
digital projection system which
will deliver the IMAX ultimate
theater experience to all its
moviegoers," Mr. Tejerero said.
He said the IMAX Theater’s
digital system uses a
comprehensive suite of
proprietary IMAX technologies
that are exclusive to SM Cinema
in the Philippines. "This is the
world’s most advanced digital
theater system and is superior to
all conventional digital systems,
just as IMAX’s film-based system
is superior to conventional film-
based systems," he said.
Mr. Tejerero said constructing an
IMAX Theater is about "50%-70%
more expensive" than building
standard movie theaters.
However, he said SM Cinema
considers IMAX Theaters "a good
investment" since tickets to IMAX
screenings cost between P300 to
P450 each, more than double
the P150-P175 admission ticket
for standard movie houses.

^^Generally speaking, SM Clark's Cinemas are of better quality than the ones in SM Pampanga. I think SM is positioning SM Clark more of as an entertainment-focused mall rather than a purely-shopping-focused mall like SM Pampanga, which totally makes sense because the former is strategically located in Angeles City's entertainment district.

Think of it this way, I am a local and I would like to dedicate an entire day partaking what AC's entertainment district can offer me: authentic Italian cuisine for lunch at Salvatore, then movie time at SM Clark followed by a little bit of shopping, merienda at a random cafe at The Meeting Place, Mexican food for dinner at Zapata's, followed by a fabulous night at Hacienda Superclub and then finally topped off with an overnight accommodation at Hotel Vida.

You see, I think they have created this whole lifestyle where you can enjoy the best the city can offer without driving so far out. Samantalang when you go at SM Pampanga, you spend an entire day shopping because the selection and assortment of stores is just vast.

^^ Clark city is more likely to be a high class city, specially if magkaroon na ng airport like in incheon, S.Korea... that should be developed as the Gateway to the Philippines,... and ma develop din yung lugar like the BGC in Metro Manila,... Angeles City is i think the growth center of the province, am i right? hehe

anyway, Pampanga is a beautiful province,... i went there last 5 years ago... hihi :D

This is the franchise's second provincial store after the one in Marquee Mall. A kiosk also exists in SM Pampanga and I'm thinking that will be upgraded too in the future.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO --
Some 2,000 jobseekers flocked
Thursday to the mini-convention
center of the City of San
Fernando to join the city's job
fair.
The job fair, the second to be
conducted by the City
Government this year, is in line
with the Pyestang Fernandino
2011 celebration, and was done
in partnership with the
Department of Labor and
Employment.
Community Affairs Division chief
and award-winning Public
Employment Service Office
manager Donny Sayre told
Sun.Star Pampanga that the job
fair was the biggest so far in
terms of the number of
applicants who registered.
"This is the second job fair this
year and so far, the biggest since
as early as 10:30 in the morning,
our records showed that more
than 2,000 have already
registered. We are expecting
more since the job fair will close
at 3 p.m.," Sayre said.
He said 50 employers are
looking for qualified applicants
for placements abroad.
"The big number could be
attributed to new investments
like S and R Mall and SM City
San Fernando, which need
hundreds of personnel. Also,
Mayor Oscar Rodriguez has
made it an open job fair,
meaning non-Fernandinos and
job seekers from neighboring
towns could apply for slots,"
added Sayre.
Sayre said around 10 percent of
the applicants will be hired on
the spot.
"With our HOTS (Hired on the
Spot) program, many will be
hired instantly. The rest will have
to undergo the usual process of
screening and interviews but
they are guaranteed to land a
job here," Sayre concluded.

Mobile Rice Teknoklinik tours Central Luzon

QUEZON CITY, May 30 (PIA) -- Farmers no longer need to go research center facilities to inquire about their farming problems and issues, after PhilRice launched its Mobile Rice Teknoklinik or technology clinics.
Said mobile clinics are now reaching fourth and fifth class municipalities in the country to address different farming problems and issues.
Speakers from the Technology Management and Services Division (TMSD) of the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) accompany the mobile rice clinics, the consultation activity provides avenue for farmers to consult, discuss, diagnose, analyze, and find solutions to their problems with rice experts, researchers, extentionists, and fellow farmers.
Farmers in Tarlac and Aurora are scheduled next week to be accommodated in the clinic. Early this month, the team promoted PalayCheck® and Palayamanan in Bataan , Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, and Zambales.
Anita V. Antonio, TMSD division head, said Teknokliniks were installed in Tarlac’s Anao, San Clemente , San Manuel and in Aurora’s Dilasag, Casiguran, and Dinalungan.
Antonio said the month-long activity creates farmers’ awareness on new rice technologies and Agri-Pinoy Program of the Department Agriculture, the country’s banner program to attain food security.
The Teknoklinik series are being conducted in coordination with Agricultural Training Institute and Department of Agriculture Regional Field Unit 3.
DA-PhilRice is a government-owned and –controlled corporation that aims at developing high-yielding and cost-reducing technologies so farmers can produce enough rice for all Filipinos. (Ogie Salvador/PhilRice)

New Clark projects to generate thousands of jobs

by Carlo Lorenzo J. Datu

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, May 26 (PIA) -- An estimated 7,000 jobs are expected to be generated by the two new projects inside the Clark Freeport Zone.
Department of Labor and Employment regional director Leopoldo De Jesus revealed that up to 5,000 careers will be up for grabs once Japanese owned-Yokohama Tire Philippines Incorporated’s 28.2-hectare expansion plant begins its operations.
A portion of the expansion plant will be first operated in 2013 and shall be fully utilized by 2014.
Upon completion, it is expected to significantly boost production capacity. By 2017, tires manufactured by Yokohama Philippines will increase to approximately 17 million tires a year or 50,000 tires per day compared to the current production of seven million tires a year or 21,000 tires per day.
Meanwhile, De Jesus also disclosed that Korean-led Donggwang Clark Corporation will need approximately 2,000 workers for its $200 million leisure community project.
The 304-hectare project consists of a 36-hole golf course, clubhouse, condominium with 330 rooms, water park, spa, gymnasium, eco-tourism park, business center, an international school, golf academy, hotel with 300 rooms, casino, 500 villa units, and a shopping village.
Under phase one, the proponent is expected to complete within 30 months the construction of the golf course, club house, 100 villa units, and the international school – which will be operated by the Brent School.
Phase two will be the construction of condominium, the water park and the additional 300 villa units.
The third phase will be the construction of the hotel, eco-tourism park, casino, shopping village, additional 100 villa units, and other amenities to entice the arrival of more local and foreign tourists in Clark. The project is expected to be completed by 2016.
De Jesus added, these foreign projects prove that Central Luzon is a conducive investment destination. (WLB/CLJD-PIA 3)

Garbage disposal unit shreds dirty Philippine peso bills
Local government unit’s garbage disposal has shredded dirty Philippine peso bills for central bank
By Barbara Mae Dacanay, Bureau ChiefPublished: 16:38 June 2, 2011

MANILA: Local government leaders in central Luzon admitted that their garbage disposal department had shredded dirty Philippine peso bills for the central Bank of the Philippines, adding that the damaged bills were buried under the earth and not burned to protect the environment, a local paper said.
The garbage disposal unit of Sindalan village, San Fernando, Pampanga was chosen to shred some 30 sacks of dirty peso bills before the elections last year, Lawyer Thomas Cariño, regional manager of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in Pampanga City told the Inquirer.
Complying with the country’s Clean Air Act, the workers dumped the shredded bills into 30 sacks and buried them under the earth, said Cariño.
The shredding of Philippine bills occurred because of Central Bank’s “clean notes” policy, explained Cariño.
A Central Bank committee was in charge of identifying bills from several banks that were unfit for circulation, Cariño said, adding, “They [destroyed bills] have no more value.”
He did not explain why dirty Philippine bills could not be recycled.
Meanwhile, Joselito Cabia, foreman of a construction firm that was installing electric posts in Sindalan village said that workers found shredded bills in P1,000, P500, P50 and P20 denominations.
The workers tried to look for complete and useful bills, but failed, said Cabia, adding that several workers and farmers said the dirty bills should have been given to the poor.
“Why weren’t these given to us instead?” the Inquirer quoted a farmer as saying.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO ---
Jenra Mall is constructing its new
branch in Barangay Sindalan,
fronting the GSIS office along
MacArthur Highway.
The mall will be constructed in a
three-hectare property, where
Valgosons tire company
previously stood.
Are you short of coins? Check
out Sun.Star's multimedia special
report on coin circulation.
During the groundbreaking rites
Friday morning, TSB Realty and
Development Corporation
general manager Byron Siy said
Jumbo Jenra is set to open this
December.
"The family and the company is
set to open Jenra in San
Fernando this September as part
of our expansion projects. We
are putting up our third Jumbo
Jenra, the second biggest in
Pampanga, which will rise initially
in 1.5 hectares of this 3-hectare
property. Some spaces are for
lease while the anchor would be
Jenra Supermarket. Gradually,
we will develop the area," he
said.
Jenra company is also the owner
of Sacred Heart Hospital in
Angeles City, which is becoming
popular because of its
specialization on cancer and
cardiovascular cases.
But Jenra, as a supermarket and
mall, has always been known for
its customer-friendly services
and low prices.
"It will be the same service at
murang presyo para sa mga
Fernandino," he said.
He added that plotting Jenra in
Sindalan is part of their plan to
boost investments here.
"As you can see, wala pang
masyadong development dito
from San Fernando to Angeles
City so this is fertile ground. We
want Fernandinos to have
convenience so we are putting
up Jenra here. We offer not only
convenience but cheap prices,
the cheapest in Pampanga and
the best services we can offer to
Fernandinos,” said Siy.
Siy said Jumbo Jenra San
Fernando will be a one-stop-
shop offering virtually
everything.
"The project will be a two-
floored, warehouse type of
supermarket. Our target is to
open this December and
everyone is invited to visit
Jumbo Jenra-Sindalan,” he said.
Mayor Oscar Rodriguez said
during the rites "Basta investor,
welcome sa City of San
Fernando."

A CHRONICLE OF
CATASTROPHE
Pinatubo erupts
by A. Caesar Z. Lacson
June 10, 1991. Angeles City
awakened to its worst
nightmare: the American dream
was over. Dashed was the hope-
against hope-that Gl Joe would
say, come what may. A belief
borne by the new concrete wall
around the base perimeter that
had just been completed, the
frenzied base housing
construction seen as sure sign of
increased troop deployment,
and the second runway built
reportedly to serve as
alternative landing site for the
space shuttle Columbia. All
coming top nought.
Before stunned eyes passed the
very end of the city’s economic
being: By car, bus, truck,
American servicemen and their
dependents started their exodus
from Clark– jamming the North
Luzon Expressway in a three-
mile long convoy– to Subic
where US warships and troop
transports awaited them for
their journey home.
Their departure from Clark was
–for the Americans – less a stoic
acceptance of the impending
repudiation by the Philippine
Senate of the bases treaty– to
ultimately come in September,
than a hurried, harried flight
from certain catastrophe.
June 11.“16,000 evacuated from
Clark” bannered the Stars and
Stripes, with the sub-head:
“Major eruption feared from
Mount Pinatubo volcano.”
The rumblings of the hitherto
hardly known volcano starting
to get frequenter and stronger
by the hour.
June 12. Philippine
Independence Day. For the first
time in 90 years, Angeles City
was thoroughly free of a foreign
occupation force. The meaning
of the day though was utterly
lost to Mayor Antonio Abad
Santos whose speech before the
city hall alternated between
carping– “overacting,” he called
the American abandonment of
the base, and comforting– that
the greater number of
Angelenos need not panic, being
outside Pinatubo’s immediate 10-
kilometer radius that was initially
tagged as danger zone.
Thunderous explosions cut Abad
Santos in mid-speech, a giant
plume of ash shot up 20
kilometres in the sky,
immediately followed a rain of
hot ash and pumice stones. It
was 8:51 in the morning.
Panic– people froze in their
track, eyes in the sky and
mouth agape, shocked and
awed by nature’s might. Then
pandemonium – the rush for
home, hither and thither like
headless chickens, amid the
cacophony of frightened shrieks,
nervous prayers, screeching tires
and blaring horns.
With the acrid smell of sulfur
wafting in the ash-laden air,
masks– surgical and industrial –
ran out in the city’s drug and
hardware stores. The surplus
bio-chemical masks from Desert
Storm which found their way in
the PX stalls of Dau and Nepo
Mart had been snagged,
wholesale, by some very
enterprising profiteer earlier.
Braving the cloud of ash,
President Cory Aquino flew by
helicopter to Clark to see the
situation first hand, and dropped
by the Angeles City High School
where the eruption’s very first
evacuees of 2,000, mostly Aeta
tribesmen, have taken refuge.
“This could only be the
beginning.” So warned Dr.
Raymundo S. Punongbayan,
director of the Philippine
Institute of Volcanology and
Seismology (Phivolcs), of the
June 12 eruptions.
June 13. Even as the people
swept ash and sand from the
roofs of their houses, Phivolcs
recorded more eruptions, the
volcano gushing greater clouds
of ash and gases 25 kilometers
in the sky.
“Phenomenal eruptions,”
Punongbayan called them, and
declared:“This is already the Big
Bang. I can’t see any other
eruption that will exceed this.”
June 14. Dark clouds blanketed
the city, ominously dimming the
garish, neon lights of Balibago.
June 15. A much Bigger Bang
that proved Punongbayan’s
declaration deadly wrong. The
Great Eruption that turned
bright day– starting at 8:15 in
the morning – to darkest night.
The roll of thunder, the flash of
lightning, the rain of ash and
stones, and the tremors of the
ground foreboding the very end
of days.
IT WAS THE
WORST OF TIMES
The city’s secondary economic
lifeline – next only to Clark Air
Base – furniture and handicrafts
manufacturing totally collapsed,
literally, from the weight of
ashfalls: factories– roofs, beams,
posts and walls – crashing down
on equipment, supplies and
finished products.
Collapsed too, as many houses
in the city, was the roof of the
Philippine Rabbit Bus terminal
downtown, killing two waiting
passengers and injuring scores of
others. Later in the day, the
city’s very icon of the finest
Chinese cuisine – Shanghai De
Luxe Restaurant – burned to the
ground after its roof collapsed
on the liquefied petroleum gas
tanks in its kitchen.
By 2 in the afternoon, steaming
mudflows– soon to enter the
lexicon as the terrifying lahar –
sprang from the foot of
Pinatubo rampaged through the
Abacan River destroying in
succession Friendship Bridge that
led to Clark, Hensonville
Spillway, Abacan Bridge where
MacArthur Highway traversed
and Pandan Bridge that led to
Magalang. Scouring the
riverbank and gobbling up
houses and buildings, including
the remnants of the collapsed
Angeles City General Hospital.
It was the city’s first taste of the
devastating power of lahar – a
horrific byword sending people
to higher ground at the slightest
drop of rain.
West of the city, the lahar-
swollen Mancatian River
swallowed its eponymous bridge
cutting off Angeles from Porac
town.
Mudflows overtopped the
Sapang Balen Creek and spread
steadily across the city proper.
The public market and
commercial area of San Nicolas
and the business district, indeed
the very heart of the city, Sto.
Rosario where city hall, the“big
church,” the enclaves of the
rich, as well as the city’s, and
Central Luzon’s, biggest private
school, Holy Angel College were
all sited, all inundated by
steaming mud.
There, a long-established tale
belied: As the elevation of
Angeles City is levelled with the
very spire of the Metropolitan
Cathedral in San Fernando, any
flooding in the city would mean
the capital town under at least
30 feet of water.
On Doomsday itself, no flooding
was recorded in San Fernando.
With supplications to the
Almighty drowned by the
rumble of the volcano, with the
onslaught of mudflows and the
rain of ash unabating, it was
hegira for the Angelenos.
All the roads leading south of
the city were filled with dazed
and dazzled refugees, on foot,
in cars, on buses, on trucks:
seeking relative safety in the
homes of relatives and friends,
finding temporary shelters in
evacuation centers, the first of
which was Amoranto Stadium in
Quezon City, provided for by
Mayor Brigido Simon Jr, a
Kapampangan himself, who also
brought buses to the very ramp
of the Angeles exit of the North
Luzon Expressway to ferry more
evacuees.
Buried in ashes, reduced to a
virtual ghost town, Angeles City
and its twin basetown, Olongapo
which also bore the initial brunt
of the eruptions, made easy
picking for the moralists’ sermon
of the wrath of God heaped
upon Sodom and Gomorrah.
The host cities to the US military
bases long known as deeply
mired in decadence and
debauchery.
But erased from the face of the
earth like the biblical sin cities,
Angeles City refused to be.

Turning Tragedy into Triumph to
be launched at Marquee Mall,

ning Angeles today)

Alaala ng Pinatubo
by Bong Lacson
IKA-15 ng Hunyo, 1991, pasado
alas-dos ng hapon. Iniwan ng
araw ang mundong ibabaw.
Naghari ang pusikit na
kadiliman. Saglit na nakaririnding
katahimikan. Bigla, pinunit ng
kidlat, binasag ng kulog ang
wari’y luksang tabing ng
kalangitan: putik ang ibinugso,
ang ibinuhos nama’y bato.
Sa pakikisali pa ng lindol at
bagyo, wala na ngang dito’y
hihigit pang dilubyo.
Ang lakas ng bulkan, naipon,
nagngalit sa loob ng anim na
siglo, ay kumulo, bumulwak,
sumabog, nagtabon ng abo at
burak sa mga bayan-bayang sa
dusa’t pighati’y nalublob,
nalugmok, nabaon.
Ang tangis at taghoy ng mga
tao: kapatawaran ng kanilang
kasalanan sa naka-ambang nang
katapusan ng mundo. Tunay ka,
pati ateista ay natutong
tumawag sa Diyos noong araw
na iyon ng Hunyo.
At dahil sa ang mga unang
nasalanta ay ang Angeles at
Olongapo, ipinagkahulugan na
ngang ang pagputok ng Bulkang
Pinatubo ay isang malupit na
kastigo ng Diyos sa mga
kasalanan ng tao. Di baga’t itong
dalawang siyudad na parausan
ng kati at libog ng mga tropang
Amerikano noon ay tinagurian
na ngang Sodom at Gomorrah
ng Asya-Pasipiko?
(Ah, pero ang Pampanga’y hindi
makasalanan. Bagkus ito’y
santuwaryo ng kabanalan. Ano’t
bigla itong nadamay sa
makatwirang galit ng Maykapal?
Ah, iyan ay ipasa-Diyos na
lamang. Pagmamatwid sa akin
noon ng isang manang.)
Nasa rurok na ng mithing
kaunlaran at pumapangalawa na
sa Cebu bilang pinakapiling
lunan sa mga namumuhunan,
ang lalawigang Kapampangan sa
isang kisapmata’y biglang naging
mapanglaw na ilang ng
kawalang pag-asa.
“E ko magmalun, mibangun ya
ing Pampanga.” Huwag mawalan
ng pag-asa, babangon ang
Pampanga.
Unang sigaw– ni Gubernador
Bren Z. Guiao – na bagama’t
lugmok man sa dusa’t kahirapan
ay hindi pa rin nagapi’t nagahis
ang Kapampangan.
Sigaw na itinitik sa tintang pula –
tanda ng alab ng paglaban – sa
mga puting telang ibinandera sa
buong lalawigan.
Sigaw na nagsilbing aandap-
andap na ningas ng bagong
pag-asa. Ningas na nag-alab sa
mga pagkilos tungo sa kaligtasan
ng mga Kapampangan, nagliyab
sa mga pagpupunyagi sa
pagbangon, naglagablab sa mga
pasisikap na muling
pumailanlang ang lalawigan sa
kalawakan ng kaunlaran.
Hindi naging madali ang
pagligtas sa Kapampangan, gaya
ng sumusunod na halaw sa
aking isinulat na talambuhay ni
Mayor Oscar S. Rodriguez.
“Ang mga dike, sabo dam,
paghukay at pagdraga sa mga
kailugan at sa bagtasin ng lahar
na pinondohan ng daan-daang
angaw ay walang pinag-iba kay
Sisyphus sa alamat na Griyego–
ang malupit na hari ng Korinto
na isinumpang pagulungin ang
isang bilog na tipak ng bato sa
itaas ng gulod sa Hades upang
gumulong na pababa lamang at
kanya muling pagugulungin
paitaas na naman sa isang
walang katapusang gulungan.
“Sa salawikaing Pilipino,
masasabing ang pagsisikap sa
pagpigil sa lahar ay paglalakad
ng painog sa isang kabilugan.
“Pinakamasama at kasumpa-
sumpa pa, ang mga dike’t draga
ang naging saganang bukal ng
kurakutan at malawakang
pandarambong sa kaban ng
bayan na siya na ngang
pinakabuktot na
kawalanghiyaan– ang tumabo’t
tumubo sa dilubyo ng Bulkang
Pinatubo.
Hindi naging madali ang
pagbangon. Ang paghihirap sa
mga evacuation center ay
totoong naibsan sa mga
resettlement sites. Subali’t dito’y
nasumpungan naman ang higit
na pangangailangang mabigyan
ng pangkabuhayan ang mga
biktima ng bulkan.
Ito ay nagkaroon na rin ng
akmang kalutasan sa paglipas ng
mga taon nang bumalik ang
tiwala’t paniniwala ng mga
mamumuhunan sa Pampanga
bunsod na rin ng paglinang sa
Clark bilang special economic
zone at sa paliparan dito.
Sumunod at umantabay sa
kaunlaran ang mga kanugnog
na mga bayan at siyudad.
Dumami ang trabaho, lumawak
ang pagkakataong
makapaghanapbuhay.
Sa mga kaganapang ito, hindi na
naging mahirap pa ang
pagpapaimbulog muli ng
Pampanga sa katiwasayan at
kasaganaan.
Dalawampung taon na ang
nakaraan. Ang bangungot ng
rumaragasang lahar wari’y
pangitaing umagos lamang sa
ating kaisipan.
Mibangun ne ing Pampanga.
Nakabangon na nga ang
Pampanga. Dahil na rin sa sa
sariling kakayahan ng mga
Kapampangan.
Purihin ang Maykapal. Allahu
akbar!

BACOLOR -- Governor Lilia
Pineda said Wednesday that the
province is now moving "full
speed ahead" toward progress
after Mt. Pinatubo's devastating
eruption 20 years ago.
The governor said during the
dawn four-kilometer
commemorative walk on
Wednesday that the
rehabilitation of affected areas
like Bacolor, which was hardest
hit, is nearing completion.
Win US $500 cash in Sun.Star’s
music video contest
Many other towns like Porac,
Sta. Rita, Guagua and San
Fernando, have recovered from
the ill effects of the volcano's
eruption branded as the historic
"big bang."
"Bumabalik na ulit ang sigla ng
Pampanga. Na-rehabilitate na
iyung mga tulay at kalsada. So
the people of Bacolor could
expect, two to three years from
now that the vibrancy of the
town will return," Pineda told
Sun.Star Pampanga.
She added: "Ang ating
probinsiya ay maganda at
maunlad na. In terms of
development, marami ng
magandang nangyari sa
Pampanga, lalo na iyung dating
US Base na ngayon ay Clark
economic zone na. Our roads
and highways are now
interconnected with the Gapan-
San Fernando-Olongapo Road,
NLEx and SCTEx. We have the
megadike and a lot of new
bridges. We can now safely say
na fully developed na ang
Pampanga."
Along with what she noted as
the boosted development
thrusts in agriculture, health,
education, livelihood and
infrastructure, Pineda said the
Provincial Government will also
keenly focus on solid waste
management.
"Ang solid waste management
na lang ang nakikita kong
problema. But sa kabuhayan,
agrikultura, fishpond industry ay
okay naman. Marami tayong
OFWs, mga 80,000 na
tumutulong din. Sana ay
magpatuloy pa kaya ito ang
ating highlight sa 20th year ng
Mt. Pinatubo eruption," she
added.
The commemorative walk, led
by the governor, was
participated in by thousands of
officials, employees and
delegations from Bacolor,
Guagua and the City of San
Fernando led by Mayor Oscar
Rodriguez.
Rodriguez branded the walk as a
unifying event that celebrated
the triumph of the indomitable
Kapampangan spirit.
Vice-Governor Joseller Guiao,
whose late father Bren was the
provincial chief executive at the
time Pinatubo wrought havoc in
the province, was elated over
Pampanga's recovery and
continued move toward
progress.
"Tayo ay natutuwa dahil tayo ay
nakabangon agad. Malayo na
ulit ang narating ng Pampanga
(We are happy that Pampanga
has moved on)," he quipped.
Late Pampanga governor
honored
Third district Representative
Aurelio Gonzales Jr., meanwhile,
led Wednesday the wreath
laying ceremonies in front of the
statue of the late former
governor Bren Z. Guiao at the
Paskuhan village here.
Gonzales was accompanied by
Guiao in giving honor to the
memory of the late governor
who served during the early
part of the height of the
eruption of Mt. Pinatubo 20
years ago.
Wednesday, June 15, marked the
20th year anniversary of the
eruption of Mt. Pinatubo, the
most devastating calamity that
hit the province in modern
history. The elder Guiao was
credited for having secured
many development programs
for Pampanga in the early part
of the 90's.
Gonzales said it is fitting to honor
Guiao, who has served during
the "darkest history" of the
province.
The representative, a close ally
and confidante of the late
governor, also said that he was
witness to the sacrifices, defeats
and triumphs of former
governor Guiao.
"I was there during the time that
he was working hard for the
development of Pampanga. He
was there when vital decisions
had to be made and his motto
after the eruption was:
'Pampanga will bounce back.'
And now his efforts to save the
rest of Pampanga had paved off
and many development projects
he started then have made they
marks in history," Gonzales said.
Remembering ex-governor
Guiao
Former governor Guiao served
his term from 1986 to 1995. He
was born from a peasant family
in Magalang town.
One of the most colorful and
influential leaders of his time, he
was credited for catapulting
Pampanga from an agricultural
backwater to a striking industrial
province with a strong growth
rate.
Guiao's success in politics was
based on his effective use of
public relations and tecno-
developmental strategies.
Before the eruption of Mt.
Pinatubo, Pampanga was second
only to Cebu in terms of
economic growth and even
occupied the leading post in
many development categories.
His son, now vice governor,
thanked Gonzales for taking the
initiative to remember the
memory and achievements of
his father. He said his father has
sacrificed a lot for Pampanga
during his term.
"I could remember then that my
father's asthma returned and
worsened after the eruption and
maybe because he had to go
out and see to many
rehabilitation efforts that asthma
problem lingered. It was one of
the reasons why he passed away
so early," Guiao said.
The older Guiao was also
accorded kind words from
Gonzales and the younger Guiao
during their public address of
family, friends and supporters of
the late governor.
Both officials urged
Kapampangans of today's
generation to re-study their local
history and learn lessons from
the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo,
particularly the efforts of people
who have sacrificed for fellow
Kapampangans during the
tragedy.
Angeleños' triumph
Angeleños also remembered
Wednesday their triumph over
tragedy when the Mt. Pinatabo
erupted 20 years ago.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan said
the eruption of the volcano on
June 15, 1991 almost destroyed
everything in Angeles City.
"While we recall the anguish,
despair and hopelessness, we will
also celebrate the triumph, the
success, the resurrection and the
rising from the ashes of the
Angeleños," Pamintuan said.
Angeles was considered a
doomed city because of the
constant threat of lahar flows
that buried the city. This was
aggravated by the departure of
American forces from Clark Air
Base.
"Our young people today, and
first time visitors of Angeles,
would never imagine the travails
and tragedies that the people of
Angeles faced during that time,"
the mayor said.
He recalled that the Angeleños
had very little idea about lahar.
"I remember I made a call, as
acting mayor then, for us to
fortify the banks of the Abacan
River, the possible path of the
lahar. I thought that if the lahar
breached the banks of the river,
it will spill over to the nearby
communities and ruin our city all
the more. I even asked for
volunteers," Pamintuan said.
He said the most spectacular
sight and memory of the Mt.
Pinatubo eruption was not the
giant mushroom of ash that rose
kilometers into the atmosphere
but the more than 20,000
Angeleños who were in several
parallel lines at both banks of
the Abacan River, some with
picks and shovels, and the rest
passing on sandbags that were
piled at the river walls to
reinforce them from the flow of
lahar.
"The spirit of the Angeleños
never faltered. Through their
resiliency, strength of character,
trust in their leaders and faith in
God, they survived, stood up
and moved forward. They have
turned tragedy into triumph,"
the mayor added.

We were crippled by a phenomenon which was dubbed as one of the world's worst volcanic catastrophes in the 20th century. And yet, look at us now, sharing the tag of richest and most productive provinces along with the likes of Cebu, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas and Bulacan. Clark main gate to be moved further up Roxas highway
Tuesday, June 14

A new main gate for Clark Freeport is being erected just before the SCTEX crossing on Roxas highway.

Clark Development Corp (CDC) has always been hesitant of such a move due to the fact that the Angeles local government tends to claim CDC-owned land that is not inside the Freeport's fenced boundaries.

Businesses and residents on and near the entertainment strip have long urged for an access route through the fencing into Roxas from Don Juico Ave in order to relieve Don Juico of traffic and to create a quicker and more convenient access into Clark Freeport and SM mall.
Whether this shall be done afterwards is still unclear.:)

share naman nang pic nang bagong statue malapit sa marquee mall (Phoenix Bird statue)...thanks

meron ba? Last time kong nasa Marquee was two weeks ago when I watched X-Men.

If ever, a Phoenix Statue is a good addition to the sights here in AC. Sana gawin nilang iconic para maging landmark din gaya ng Salakot sa may Bayanihan Park

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO --
Mayor Oscar Rodriguez ordered
the contractor of a mall along
Jose Abad Santos Avenue (Jasa)
to stop the construction after
city officials found violations in
the permit resulting in flooding
in the area.
The faulty drainage system of
the mall caused knee-deep
flooding along Jasa, from the
CarWorld offices all the way to
the western tip of the avenue.
Win US $500 cash in Sun.Star’s
music video contest
The flooding caused traffic jams
and inconvenience to businesses
along the avenue, where a
temporary footbridge was built
connecting CarWorld to drier
parts of the road.

In a spot inspection, Rodriguez,
city engineers Nelson Lingat,
Efren De Leon and City
Administrator Ferdinand Caylao,
found out that the contractor of
S & R mall violated provisions in
the permit issued by the
Department of Public Works and
Highways (DPWH) regional
office, as gleaned from
documents shown the inspecting
team.
"The drainage system design of
this mall has contributed to the
built in defects of the existing
drainage system. Ito kasing
drainage system na ito ay
nakatutok sa creek. Kaya't hindi
bababa ang tubig sa drainage
hanggat hindi bumababa ang
tubig sa creek," said Rodriguez.
He added: "This [mall
construction] has aggravated the
situation because the spoils have
surely penetrated our drainage
system. Second, because this was
elevated, iyung dadaan sa taas,
hindi rin makadaan dahil
mayroong bara because of these
filling materials. This added to
the unnecessary flooding here."
Rodriguez said the mall's
drainage system being
connected to the avenue's
canals is not permissible.
"May encroachment diyan and
this is a violation of our existing
laws because they did not
observe the five-meter radius
which is the right of way of the
National Government on this
national road. So pinapahinto ko
ang pagpapagawa nitong
malalim na drainage system na
ito outside of their area allowed
by law. Nakita din ng mga taga-
DPWH na wala silang 5-meter
setback," he said.
Rodriguez said that while the
City Government attracts
investors, they should abide with
and observe what is under the
law.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez clarified
that the flash floods wrought by
tropical depression Falcon
yesterday were expected.
"Talagang malakas ang ulan at
expected na ang flash floods.
Dati ng nangyayari dito ito dahil
ang ulan continuous. Ang habilin
lang natin sa mga tao ay mag-
ingat," he said.

The Kapampangan full length film by Angeles City resident Jason Paul Laxamana, ASTRO MAYABANG, shot mainly in Angeles City in the Kapampangan language, will have a screening at the CCP Dream Theater in line with the upcoming Cinamalaya 2011 on 20 July/Wed 3:30PM.

The film, which was a finalist in last year's Cinema One Originals Film Festival, bagged Audience Choice and Special Citation.

Set mainly in Angeles City (with some scenes shot in Mabalacat and Magalang), “Astro Mayabang” is a satire about an insecure guy named Astro (Arron Villaflor) who embraces as his personal mission the task of promoting Filipino pride through the only way he knows how -- buying and showing off Filipino pride-themed clothes and accessories. He comes across Dawn (Young), a Filipino-American girl seeking to learn about her Filipino roots. Will Astro be able to show Dawn the Filipino greatness he keeps on flaunting?

Nepo Condominium?

anyway, the erection of Convergys and Nepo Quadrangle means a lot of businesses (most probably food businesses) will flock to Nepo Complex to serve the hundreds of agents the huge call center is likely to hire. Maybe it's time to renovate Nepo Mart into a classier place? Sana parang Eastwood haha!

totoo yun, Angelenos speak Filipino, kasi d naman lahat nag sasalita ng kapampanga...so un...forgive my text...heheheh milaos kayo angeles...

untrue. Kapampangans still compose the huge population of Angeles. All other non-Kapampangan speaking people are a minority.

It's just the low perception of natives toward Kapampangan and wishful thinking of people that Angeles is an extreme melting pot like American cities that make it seem like Tagalog is the major language.

Almost everyone can speak Tagalog in the Philippines. But never say Angelenos are mainly Tagalog speakers.

I hope you're right, a condo is waayy better than yet another SM Savemore!

I'm glad with the developments and all I just hope they begin working on easing AC's horrible traffic problem. This will be needed to cope up with the rising density of structures, especially in the main business areas. McArthur along Balibago is virtually a pain in the a** almost any time of the day.

MVP still ‘keen’ on investing in Clark airport
WEDNESDAY, 29 JUNE 2011 19:48 JOEY PAVIA / CORRESPONDENT
CLARK FREEPORT—“Quite keen.”

This was the quick answer of Manuel V. Pangilinan, board chairman of Smart Communications and other top companies, when asked if he was still interested in investing at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) here.

In a recent roundtable with provincial journalists here, Pangilinan said “the phase of the national government will determine our phase [in investing at the DMIA].”

Pangilinan bared anew to the BusinessMirror the feasibility study on the DMIA he had commissioned early this year.

The Madrid, Spain-based Indra group reportedly suggested to Pangilinan that the former US-owned Clark Air Base in Pampanga be operated both as a domestic and international airport, similar to Japan’s Haneda and Narita airports, to service rural and urban areas.

The DMIA sits on a 2,500-hectare sprawling aviation complex compared to the 600-hectare property of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) in Parañaque City.

“I am sure all of you have experienced being delayed while landing or taking off from Naia. In about three years, it will be congested and reach its full capacity,” said Pangilinan, who is also interested in investing in one of the private hospitals in Angeles City.

Pangilinan stressed that the DMIA should be the country’s “second international airport.”

As of June the DMIA averages 80 international and local flights per week, most of which are by Cebu Pacific offering regular flights to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Macau and Cebu, according to the public relations department of Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC), operator of the DMIA. On January Pangilinan personally conveyed to CIAC president and CEO Victor Jose Luciano his desire to operate or invest the airport named after a former president from Lubao, Pampanga.

Luciano on Tuesday said “MVP’s [Pangilinan] statement puts us on the same track as what we in CIAC have been emphasizing all along, and we have been getting strong support from the Department of Transportation and Communications [DOTC] and the business and management sectors of society, both the national and local associations, including the foreign chambers.”

“It is very encouraging to note that big-ticket investors, like MVP, have taken a strong interest in Clark. CIAC is focused on building Clark as the second international gateway of the country,” he added.

Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan agreed with Pangilinan that the DMIA should “the second international airport for now.”

He cited the international airport in Los Angeles (LA), which the government plans to transfer to another area in California, USA.

“Like the LA airport, much as they want to transfer the present airport to a place or area like Clark, they cannot do it as fast as they can. The structures supporting the LA airport, like logistic hub and ancillary business structures and enterprises, are not yet at the DMIA,” said Pamintuan.

The first-term mayor said, “Someday the Naia will be saturated and congested and it will just close shop and Clark is it.”

Pangilinan cited Hong Kong which opened a new airport in 1998—Chek Lap Kok Airport—paving the way for the closure of Kai Tak Airport. He didn’t categorically mention that the Naia should be closed in favor of the DMIA.

Gilda Padua of Ties That Travel, president of the Association of Travel and Tours Agencies of Pampanga (ATTAP), welcomed Pangilinan’s “re-interest in Clark.”

She said the ATTAP and the Bangkok-based KBS Travel and Intertrade Co. Ltd. had partnered to increase inbound passengers at the DMIA.

“More tourists in Pampanga means more jobs and opportunities for the community,” said Padua, who recently led a familiarization tour with ATTAP members and Pampanga-based newsmen in Bangkok.

She added that her group and KBS managing director Kosol Booma will promote Clark and Pampanga as tourist desti

I hope you're right, a condo is waayy better than yet another SM Savemore!

I doubt it's a Savemore.

Nung dumating from states kaibigan ko at tinanong nya kung ano yon, sabi ko "Convergys" as a joke dahil nag-apply kami before sa Convergys Makati and boycotted after being hired. Eventually everyone kept saying na Convergys nga sya. Is it a coincidence or a simple joke turned widespread rumor? :)

A mall should have individual retail stores, boutiques, and outlets. That's the bare minimum.

In the Philippines, for Pinoys to call a mall a 'mall', it needs to have a restaurants, shops, cinemas, supermarket, department store, entertainment facilities, etc. Mataas ang standard naten hahaha

lol... WalterMart? Is that a play on WalMart? Anyway.. the reason I am posting is I have seen enormous growth in hotels and condo's in Angeles City over the last few years, but where are all the investors for things to do in Angeles. You can only bar hop so many times and it seems like a ripe market for water parks, and other attractions.

What's the deal?

It's not a mall. Baka "shopping center" pwede pa.
