If they build a fast train in that speed, more or less it will take 15-30 minutes. An average speed of 100 kph would take an hour from Balintawak to Angeles Exit so what more with 250-350 kph... So it is a negligible distance for commuters. Enough time to read the paper or catch the latest goss in the film industry.:) Is there any plan to build a speed commuter rail to accelerate movement of passengers form MM to Clark?, like those in Europe? It would make a lot easier to travel from the Airport to MM, if DMIA will eventually converted into an International Hub. It would also make a lot easier for travelers from Northern Luzon to make it to the Airport without going through the traffic congestion in Manila. It would also save them from staying overnight in MM prior to their flight. NAIA in Manila, I think is now at its final useful years, and it is about time that the government should be looking at an alternative location. IMO sisigman January 22nd, 2012, 04:42 AM ^^ yeah, the Northrail. here, check this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Philippine_National_Railways_stations#Northrail sisigman January 22nd, 2012, 04:52 AM Philippines ‘to become’ biggest branded bag supplier By Charlene Cayabyab CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- As Coach International Ltd. sees the potential of working in the Philippines, it is no wonder that eventually, the Philippines will become one of the biggest supplier of the said brand worldwide. This was said by senior vice president of Coach International Limited, Martyn James, during the grand opening of the D’Luxe Bags Philippines in Barangay Sta. Rosa in Concepcion, Tarlac which is part of the Luen Thai Group that manufactures and exports leather goods under the brand Coach. “Philippine workers with their skills, dedication and drive have achieved remarkable growth and success for the factory here in Tarlac, where it has grown 20,000 units in nine to 10 months,” James said. He added his company will be “employing more Filipino talents in the future following the Philippine philosophy on working on the rural areas and building a bigger and more successful business.” This is because when Luen Thai became a major shareholder in 2008, Coach has grown the business 10 times quicker and bigger, James said. As of December 2011, D’Luxe has 1,200 employees and is producing 90,000 to 100,000 bags per month. Luen Thai is one of the world’s premier apparel manufacturing companies. It is also a key global end-to-end supply chain services provider. Its line of offering ranges from product design to fabric sourcing and development, manufacturing and outsourcing as well as logistics functions. It has currently three operating facilities in Cebu, Clark Freeport Zone and Tarlac. A facility is soon to open in Bataan. Published in the Sun.Star Pampanga newspaper on January 22, 2012. I've been to Davao, Iloilo, and Cebu at okay ang mga highways nila, sometimes better than Pampanga's, especially yung sa Cebu Pidjung January 22nd, 2012, 09:33 PM by Jose Mari M. GarciaSunday, January 22, 2012 Late arts and culture writer Doreen Fernandez could not have put it better when she tasted a Kapampangan cuisine: This is paradise. Penchant on food—in all its potpourri of savor, aroma and fashion—is hegemony always to scintillate in every Filipino household through thick or thin. However embattled Central Luzon natives are or idyllic in times, there would always be a chasm where wistfulness on delectable entrees will permeate into their yearning palate. It is the craving for something “wow” that folks could not hold up. Gathered accounts say Kapampangan cuisine, or Lutung Kapampangan, has gained a favorable reputation among other Philippine ethnic groups. Some popular Kapampangan dishes that have become mainstays across the country include ‘sisig’ (a Filipino dish meda from parts of pig's head and liver seasoned with lemon and chili), ‘kare-kare’ (a Philippine stew made from peanut sauce with a variety of vegetables, stewed beef or goat meat), ‘tocino’ or ‘pindang’ and their native ‘longganisa’ (sausage). Nonetheless, a sword is no weapon without the swordsman. High-caliber gourmets roam the planet and among them are the very own progenies of Pampanga. An avant-garde and posh touch in food fashion is not all that it takes to catapult a chef into notoriety. Food historian Lillian Mercado Lising de Borromeo, more commonly known as Atching Lillian, has surfaced in national and international cooking and lifestyle shows with her mantra printed in “Atching Lillian’s Heirloom Recipes.” She still concocts the age-old ‘saniculas’ cookies made with the imprint of San Nicolas de Tolentino, the miracle healer, who was an Augustinian Recoleto gifted with the power of healing through his blessed bread soaked in water. A multi-awarded author of cookbooks and owner of successful restaurants like Café Ysabel and Gino's Fine Dining, Chef Gene Gonzalez, after plying overseas over and over, believes that Filipinos have the genius in the global kitchen. Gonzalez said that in “any cruise ship or international hotel, many of the meals enjoyed in this establishment are prepared by Filipino culinary professionals. On the other hand, many foreign students are beginning to enjoy the benefits of the, inexpensive yet excellent, Filipino educational system.” Artist, painter and Chef Claude Tayag takes pride in his wooden haven, Bale Dutung (Wooden House), which is a home to his family and also a restaurant for reservation. Tayag built his house from scraps and antiques as his soft spot for cooking eventually fits into the scene. His menu includes ‘pako’ salad (sald of ferns' shoots), ‘lumpiang ubod’ (roll of seasoned palm tree trunk), ‘bulanglang’ (a vegetable stew), ‘kare-kareng’ dagat (a type of kare-kare that uses seafoods instead of meat) and the desert Paradiso (balls of custards), among others. The long queue of recipes waiting to be savored will never end brought by the relentless spring of cooking whiz like those in Central Luzon. After all, torrential typhoons—natural or political—will continually roll up and devour our pep. That’s why we always have to be full. (WLB/JMG PIA-3) Link: http://www.pia.gov.ph/?m=1&t=1&id=73520 Pidjung January 22nd, 2012, 09:53 PM Cai U. Ordinario / Reporter Sunday, 22 January 2012 18:13 THE National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) Investment Coordination Committee (ICC) has recently approved P13.27 billion worth of projects for irrigation, flood control and education that are geared towards promoting agricultural growth, disaster-risk reduction and climate-change adaptation. The ICC Cabinet Committee (Cabcom) approved the P7.05 billion Casecnan Multi-Purpose Irrigation and Power Project-Irrigation Component Phase II (CMIPP-IC), the P4.66 billion Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Measures in Low-Lying Areas of Pampanga Bay Project, and the P1.56- billion Umayam River Irrigation Project (Urip). The second phase of the Casecnan irrigation and power project is implemented by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and at least 75 percent of the cost is being proposed to be funded by the Government of China, which is one of the country’s biggest Official Development Assistance (ODA) sources. “This project is consistent with the objective of the Philippine Development Plan 2011-2016 to improve food security and increasing household income in the countryside through agricultural modernization. It also addresses Central Luzon’s objective of making food affordable and sufficient in and out of the region,” Neda Director General Cayetano W. Paderanga Jr. said in a statement. The project aims to continue providing full irrigation to 20,321 of the 37,200 hectares of new areas in the towns of Munoz, Guimba, Talugtog, Cuyapo in Nueva Ecija, and Anao, Ramos and Victoria in Tarlac. It also intends to stabilize the irrigation supply of the 40,000 hectares of existing areas of the Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation System. The climate change-related project in Pampanga, which is being jointly implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Education (DepEd), is being proposed for funding through the Economic Development Cooperation Fund of the government of Korea. The Neda said that around 83.77 percent of the cost will be secured through a loan from the Korean government while the remaining 16.23 percent will be funded by the national government. The project will help reduce the extent, level and duration of flooding in the municipalities of Sto. Tomas, Minalin, San Simon, Sasmuan, Apalit, Macabebe and Masantol in Pampanga. “This project will directly alleviate the plight of school children in Pampanga in their water-soaked and severely deteriorated school surroundings. They can look forward to a better future as they can complete their education in an environment conducive for learning,” Paderanga said. The project involves site heightening of 26 schools to eliminate school-site flooding and stagnant-water ponding; reconstruction of 232 school rooms in 47 flood-affected and naturally deteriorated elementary schools; construction of 11 deep well pumps in 11 schools without secured sources of potable water; and establishment of flood control measures in the area’s rivers. The Neda said the Urip project is a medium-scale irrigation project that aims to provide water supply to agricultural lands of Adgaoan, La Paz and Umayam, Loreto in the province of Agusan del Sur. It involves the construction of an overflow diversion dam across the Umayam River, an irrigation canal network, protection dike, and improvement of waterways, among others. Paderanga said that given the long-term productivity-enhancing nature of the project, it can address sectoral, regional and local development plans such as the Food Staples Self-Sufficiency Roadmap of the Department of Agriculture and the Mindanao Strategic Development Framework for 2010-2020, among other projects. “The URIP enhances the standard of living of the people in the project area by increasing rice production through irrigation development and agricultural support services,” the Neda chief said. The ICC-CabCom’s approval of the three projects will require the confirmation of the Neda board, which is chaired by President Aquino and vice-chaired by Paderanga. The Neda board is the country’s highest development planning and policy coordinating body. It comprises various Cabinet Secretaries, the president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines, the Governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and the Deputy Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. The ICC, which is one of the seven interagency committees of the Neda board, evaluates the fiscal, monetary and balance-of-payments implications of major national projects. The ICC’s powers and functions reside in its CabCom, which is headed by the Secretary of Finance. The ICC is supported by an interagency Technical Board, with Neda as ICC Secretariat.Published in: http://businessmirror.com.ph Pidjung January 22nd, 2012, 10:20 PM http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oqn0k36tewM/SojfH570CZI/AAAAAAAAAF0/sg_3_FNgRow/s1600/Marge+and+Angelo5.JPG Imagine a variety of grain that is planted only in a couple of weeks in select rice paddies in only a couple towns in Pampanga then harvested as the cool breeze of the holiday months sweep the rice fields. Processing this grain is a colourful undertaking in itself–from harvesting in early dawn, to winnowing, toasting and pounding to remove the chaff. For every hectare planted with this special variety yields a mere 4.5 cavans of grain while a harvest of the normal variety of rice yields up to 300 cavans. Due to the limited harvest quantity, which was fortunately spared by the typhoons that hit Central Luzon, the demand for duman is much greater than the supply. However, despite its rather steep price, those who’ve enjoyed it vouch that it is worth every grain. It may be consumed by itself, rather like breakfast cereal, or taken with steaming gatas damulag (carabao milk) or tsokolate de batirol (frothy native chocolate). Butchie’s Recipes of La Moderna Pampanga along Wilson Street Greenhills shares this prized delicacy in limited quantities to residents of the metropolis. Together with La Moderna’s artisan bakery products as well as other carefully selected food and non-food products from Pampanga, Butchie’s aims to share with everyone the best Pampanga has to offer. Native chocolate and the tsokolatera and baritol are also available. Butchie's Recipes located at the ground floor of the Health Cube Building, 226 Wilson Street, West Greenhills, San Juan, Metro Manila. Land prices rising Empty or abandoned lots are being snapped up and developed into commercial and residential projects causing land prices along the entertainment strip to rise to as much as Php30,000 - Php50,000 per square meter. Billion-dollar GGLC development Behind SM Clark mall, nearly a stone's throw away from the entertainment strip, the Global Gateway Logistics Center, a massive billion-dollar 200-hectar development project funded by Kuwaitis is fast-tracking its infrastructure development to make way for large commercial and industrial projects including multi-million dollar aviation, healthcare, educational and hotel projects. 8-story threshold being broken Although hardly any are passing the 8-story threshold (around the maximum height limit without a costly foundation due to the area's soft soil), with the resumed construction of the Penthouse condo-hotel, which should be Angeles City's tallest tower at 14 floors, this will just be a matter of time. How will 2013 look like? Many more construction projects, primarily focused around the entertainment strip are in the planning and therefore today's skyline will look very different from the ones angelescity.com will be posting in 2013. http://angelescity.com/img/angelescityskyline0005.jpg http://angelescity.com/img/angelescityskyline0009.jpg Fields Avenue behind Bayanihan park http://angelescity.com/img/angelescityskyline0001.jpg http://angelescity.com/img/angelescityskyline0002.jpg Developments in walking-street including Galaxy hotel (right) http://angelescity.com/img/angelescityskyline0004.jpg http://angelescity.com/img/abchotelangeles0001.jpg ABC hotel's New Millenium tower Link: http://angelescity.com Masanting January 24th, 2012, 03:06 AM Ilan pu ba ang mga total count ng mga shops sa SM City San Fernando? sisigman January 24th, 2012, 07:36 AM yah i agree mas mgnda hiway nila dun lalu na sa cebu at un mga tulay nila sa coastal mahaba at mganda ang design. what im talking about is expressway bkt dito lang sa luzon meron dapat meron din sa vis-min. Maybe because Luzon is not made up of many islands like Visayas kaya the need for expressways is there in Luzon. How about Mindanao? Well, reality -- Luzon is the most important island of the country. The capital of the country is in Luzon, and land transport is more practical than air/water (which is a better option for VisMin people wishing to go to Manila). Luzon I presume has a larger population. Lots of cities/provinces that need to have convergence through expressways para sa development at transport of goods -- from Naga to Batangas to Cavite to Laguna to Bulacan to Pampanga to Bataan to Tarlac, all the way up to Baguio and Ilocos Norte. sisigman January 24th, 2012, 07:38 AM Clark Freeport Zone exports go beyond $2-B mark in 2011 January 21, 2012 by : FROILAN E. MAGTOTO CLARK FREEPORT Zone, Pampanga: The value of exports in this world class Freeport has breached the $2-billion mark, three years earlier than the target date set by the state- owned firm, the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) reported. CDC President Felipe Antonio B. Remollo said the amount is a remarkable 55 percent increase from the P1.453 exports attained in 2010 Remollo said that despite an apparent decline in Philippine exports due to a worldwide economic slump last year, Clark-based enterprises were able to ship at least $2.258 billion exports between January and December 2011. According to Remollo, the $1.573 billion exports from Clark's electronic sector had helped propel this record surge. This was followed by tire exports at $298 million and garments at $226 million. Manufacturing firms contributed $131 million while aviation-related companies completed the top five exporting sectors with $13 million. "The country's export performance may not be altogether bleak as exports of the Clark Freeport Zone exceeded the 2 billion mark a good three years earlier than the target date set by the CDC," Remollo bared. The 2011 record export volume, Remollo said puts CDC on track in attaining the three major performance targets dubbed "3-2-1 Development Roadmap" for Clark where $3 billion is in investments, $2 billion in exports, and 100,000 jobs, which must be achieved by the state-run corporation by the year 2014. "With these developments in the exports sector, the present trends show that these targets are attainable much earlier than planned," Remollo said. sisigman January 24th, 2012, 07:42 AM new construction mystery in Angeles City!!! ano po yung tinatayo sa bakanteng lote sa tabi ng Robinsons Place Angeles? Do not throw away the water in which the noodles were cooked. 2) Place the ground pork in a pan and add water (just barely submerging the meat) 3) Cook over high flame. Remove from heat when water has evaporated. 4) Heat up the oil in a pan pour the olive oil. Saute the onion, then add the garlic. 5) Add the ground pork and mix occasionally til pork is brown or cooked then add the hotdogs. Mix occasionally. 6) Add capsicum and carrots, keep stirring for couple of minutes. 7) Add tomato paste and some of the pasta water. Do not submerge the mixture into water though. Just enough to constitute the sauce. The paste will make the sauce thick. 8) The tomato paste is sour, so to even it up, add a bit of tomato sauce and soy sauce. 9) Add cornstarch diluted in 1/2 cup of hot water 10) Add ground black pepper, salt, and a dash of sugar or more depending in your taste. 11) Add the pasta now and mix well or later during serving. 12) If the pasta is not yet added then place the pasta 1st in serving tray and top with the sauce then the grated cheese. 13) Serve hot, Share and Enjoy :cheers1: Thank you for posting this, I'll make some over the weekend!! instead of pork, I'll be using hamburger & brown sugar. (PhilHealth) among Central Luzon provinces but officials said that all Filipinos should avail themselves of the affordable health care insurance. Philhealth Central Luzon Branch Manager Arsenia Torres said President Aquino and PhilHealth Chief Executive Officer Eduardo Banzon had repeatedly said that the country’s102 million Filipinos should be covered by the government’s National Health Insurance Program (NHIP). In the latest PhilHealth data bulletin, 28.5 million are registered members and 79.44 million are enrolled beneficiaries, or about 80 percent of the country’s total population. The members whose children are aged 20 years and below are covered by the health insurance. Bulacan has 813,382 PhilHealth members as of December, while Pampanga has 736, 484. The other Central Luzon provinces and their respective number of PhilHealth members are: Tarlac, 416, 852; Bataan, 244, 427; Zambales, 233, 501; Aurora, 51,735; Nueva Ecija, 423,474. Torres handles Pampanga, Zambales, Tarlac and Bataan. Earlier, The Department of Health (DOH) said there are some 4.8 million non-PhilHealth members who actually have the means to sign up with the agency on their own. “They can afford the premium but they are not yet enrolled. They have to understand that once they register themselves, even their families will be covered by PhilHealth,” the DOH said in a statement. The DOH said that 4.8 million individuals mostly belong to the informal sector that includes drivers, house helpers, farmers, fishers and vendors, among other self-employed persons. In Angeles City, Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan shouldered the annual payments for the province’s 8,000 PhilHealth members as part of his health -care program, said Torres. “I met Mayor Pamintuan last week and he had informed us that he will double the number of PhilHealth members sponsored by the city government,” Torres said. In the City of San Fernando, there reportedly at least 17,000 PhilHealth members sponsored by the city government. Torres said that members of the Pampanga Mayor’s League (PML) had supported Gov. Lilia Pineda’s health care program, allowing more residents to avail themselves of the PhilHealth program in Pampanga. De Leon Wednesday, January 25, 2012 CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The lawyer of several businessmen in this city has warned City Engineer Nelson G. Lingat of possible lawsuits for making baseless accusations affecting the business community instead of calling for a dialogue or public consultation. “It is a form of misconduct under Republic Act No. 6713, otherwise known as the Code of Ethical Standards for Public Officials, and possibly a criminal act under Republic Act No. 3019, otherwise known as the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act,” Lawyer Dante S. David said in a letter sent to Lingat. David's warning came after business owners along Jose Abad Santos Avenue complained on Lingat’s letter, accusing them on failing to meet the minimum setback requirement under the National Building Code and demanding the removal of alleged encroachments within seven days from receipt. “My clients denounce your action and consider your letter a form of harassment,” David said, noting that the letter was vague and lacking in substance and clear legal basis. He added that Lingat's actuation runs counter to the city's slogan “Business-Friendly City”, as he accused the owners of encroachment like they were informal settlers. David said the subject establishments are constructed with building permits in accordance with the Building Code. “In fact, some of these structures were in existence long before the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of PD (Presidential Decree) 1096 were promulgated,” David said. David reminded Lingat that businessmen are partners of the city towards economic progress and development and therefore are entitled to a “modicum of courtesy” and must be accorded due process through a public hearing or consultation. “As a public official, we earnestly hope you are properly guided in whatever action you take to prevent a serious misunderstanding with the business community and the public at large,” David urged Lingat. I mean I thought oh cool more kids to play with.. but as I grew older I really appreciated the way I was raised :) Haha sorry for going kinda off-topic :tongue3: I miss my hometown! Pidjung January 26th, 2012, 09:55 AM SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga – Officials here warned vehicle owners, which include vegetable dealers from Cordillera and Ilocos regions, not to overload their trucks as the province will now strictly implement Republic Act 9784, the Anti-Overloading Act, through cooperative efforts of various government agencies. This developed after the provincial government signed Tuesday a memorandum of agreement with the Pampanga Environment and Natural Resources Office and other stakeholder-agencies for installation of additional weighing stations in different points of the province. Vice Governor Joseller Guiao was designated by Gov. Lilia G. Pineda to sign the MOA with official representatives of the Department of Public Works and Highways, Land Transportation Office, Philippine National Police, Pampanga Truck Owners Association and the Pampanga Mayors League. Guiao thanked all the signatories to the MOA, which he described as “makasaysayan (historical)” because “it was done in the interest of all stakeholders and for the residents of Pampanga”. The provincial government provided the weighing scales, samples of which were shown during the signing, to be stationed at strategic areas where trucks may be monitored for compliance to the law. Under the MOA, the province shall also operate the weighing scales and ensure that these are maintained in accordance with the standards imposed by the Department of Science and Technology. The DPWH has the mandate of operating the weighbridges and portable weighing stations; determine and indicate in the prescribed form the actual load per axle and the total allowable gross vehicle weight; and identify the overloaded trucks and trailers. The LTO shall deputize designated personnel that will monitor the law’s implementation and cause the apprehension and impose the penalties on overloaded vehicles. The PNP shall enforce all laws and ordinances relative to the protection of lives and properties and maintain peace, order and public safety. The PTOA shall strictly comply with anti-overloading law and pay the necessary weighing fee of P30 per truckload pursuant an ordinance issued by the SangguniangPanlalawigan. Aside from the vice-governor, others present during the signing are Regional Director Oliver C. Macaspac of the LTO; PSSupt. Edgardo Tinio of the PNP; representatives of the DPWH Regional Director Antonio V. Molano and Arnold C. Liwanag of the PTOA; and Apalit Mayor Oscar Tetangco, Jr., vice president of the PML and an officer of the Quarry Operators of Pampanga. The project aims to prevent soil erosion in the river’s embankment and in major dikes here. The recent meeting led by Among Mark Manabat, a Catholic priest, was attended by the local chief executives of towns heavily affected by previous flooding. Manabat said that bamboo planting will start in places where soil erosion is apparent in order to save the residents from impending danger. As this developed, Manabat sought the assistance of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for the bamboo seedlings. Mayor Jerry Pelayo also pledged to give bamboo seedlings for the initial implementation of the projects. Bamboo planting is also being eyed as an alternative source of livelihood for the locals. Pidjung January 27th, 2012, 12:22 AM By Ian Ocampo Flora (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/taxonomy/term/46) Thursday, January 26, 2012 ANGELES CITY -- Valenzuela City Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian expressed his support to the plan to transfer the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and its operations inside Clark Freeport. Gatchalian, an active member of the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP), made this statement during the sisterhood signing between Valenzuela City and Angeles City. "As we look at the sprawling and prosperous cities of the world, their airports are in fact situated outside of the main city. It is not ideal that we have the airport within a sprawling metropolis," Gatchalian said. Gatchalian said the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) is more conducive to the needs of the current flight and passenger volume of NAIA. He added that service industries and other aviation-related industries are also within Clark and Metro Angeles Area. The presence of the North Luzon Expressway and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway makes the location of the airport here more conducive to commuters from other parts of Central and Northern Luzon. "Angeles City will also benefit from this plan and will translate to renewed development within the Central Luzon area," Gatchalian said. It could be remembered that Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas first bared the option to transfer the operations of NAIA to the Clark International Airport in a recent Senate hearing. Roxas was hoping that the privatization of NAIA will raise the revenue of the government by up to $2.5 billion. The amount would be able to fund the construction of the new international gateway in Clark. Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile also supported the transfer of NAIA to Clark provided that the NorthRail Project is already established, as the high-speed train would link Clark to the rest of Metro Manila. Published in the Sun.Star Pampanga newspaper on January 27, 2012. Pidjung January 27th, 2012, 12:36 AM PIA Press Release Thursday, January 26, 2012 CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Jan. 26 (PIA) -- Six more local government units (LGUs) in Pampanga recently received the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH) from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). DILG Regional director Florida Dijan and League of Cities of the Philippines President Oscar Rodriguez personally bestowed the recognition to officials of Bacolor, Masantol, Sta. Ana, Sta. Rita, Sto. Tomas and Candaba in a ceremony held in the City of San Fernando. DILG regional information officer Miriam Gaviola said, “The SGH is conferred to LGUs that have excelled in the areas of planning, budgeting, revenue mobilization, financial management and budget execution, procurement and resource mobilization.” Also, LGU recipients of the said merit have obtained a “no adverse report” from the Commission on Audit which means that they have complied with all the requirements of the government’s auditing agency. With this feat, all 20 towns and two cities of Pampanga plus its provincial government are SGH recipients. Gaviola added that “SGH honorees automatically vie for the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) wherein chosen LGUs receive P1 million each from the national government which will be utilized for projects supportive to the attainment of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals such as eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, reduce child mortality and promote gender equality.” Last year, the PCF grantees in Pampanga were the municipalities of Minalin, San Simon and Sasmuan. These LGUs used the cash grant for the construction of a three-classroom school building, drainage canal and public market respectively. Apart from being a requirement for the PCF, the SGH is also a criterion in the selection of regional and national Gawad Pamana ng Lahi (GPL) winners. According to Gaviola, “GPL is given to LGUs for reason of exemplary performance in Administrative Governance, Social Governance, Economic Governance and Environmental Governance.” Gaviola further said, “This yearly award is also an instrument to scale-up the valuing of accountability, transparency and involvement to local administration and development.” San Fernando placed first in the city category of the inaugural regional GPL where San Jose landed second and Palayan emerged third. Lilia “Nanay Baby” is expected to grace the Miss Mabalacat City 2012 beauty pageant set on January 28 at the municipal hall grounds in Xevera Subdivision, Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales said. Pineda and Morales along with his wife Nina will lead the coronation of the top winners among the 17 candidates. Pageant Chairman June Magabalot said this year’s contest is “very significant” with the town celebrating its 300th founding anniversary early next month. The next Miss Mabalacat will have a tough act to follow in current titlist Kimberly B. Wijangco of Barangay San Francisco who was crowned Mutya Ning Kapampangan last December. The 22-year-old lass born in Los Angeles, California gave Mabalacat its first-ever Miss Pampanga title in the annual contest. Morales said “beauty contests in our town create wholesome fun and provide venue to discover new talents.” Under Magbalot’s guidance, the Miss Mabalacat pageant has produced national beauty title lists in Marilen Maristela, Mutya ng Pilipinas and Miss Asia Pacific 1996, and Juliann Savard, Miss Teen Philippines 2006.Published in Punto Central Luzon January 27-28 Pidjung January 27th, 2012, 11:51 PM By FRANCO G. REGALA January 27, 2012, 4:36pm CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga, Philippines — The Department of Tourism (DoT) in Central Luzon announced Friday that top officials of the DoT and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) to boost tourism by building roads leading to top tourist destinations. DoT-Central Luzon Regional Director Ronaldo P. Tiotuico said the MoA aims to enhance access to vital destinations by building roads that directly connect to infrastructures like international gateways as well as town service centers where a cluster of hotels, restaurants, travel and tour services and other related services abound. Tiotuico said that an action planning conference was held recently among regional executives of DoT and the DPWH, together with some partner non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and tourism councils to flesh out the directives contained in the agreement by prioritizing tourism road infrastructure projects (TRIP) located in the 21 tourism development areas (TDAs) identified in the National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP 2011-2016). He explained that the TDA is defined as an area covered by a single local government unit (LGU) that has already an existing or emerging tourist center but which lacks road infrastructure support leading to places most frequently visited by tourists. This is just the first step in achieving the goal of generating 10 million visitors in 2016, he said. Based on the agreement, the DOT would identify the tourism road projects while DPWH would be the one to build. The timetable for the project is between 2013 up to 2016. He said priority will be given to those tourism development areas which have already an existing gateway like an airport or seaport, and are served by a service center clustered by hotels, dining facilities, among other services. Thus, he said priority will be granted to tourist centers which generate a significant number of visitors and are supported by an ample supply of rooms and services. In Central Luzon alone, and in accordance with the NTDP conclusions, its TDAs consist of Subic-Clark-Tarlac corridor, Pampanga, Bulacan, Bataan coast and inland, Zambales coast, Nueva Ecija and Aurora. These areas have already existing gateways and are served by a host of vital tourism services while the volume of visitor arrivals has become significant to warrant priority consideration in the program with a significant number of hotel rooms to support such development, Tiotuico said. He also said that the tourism development for the region is centered on the current and future development of Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) which is seen to be the next premiere gateway to the world. At present, DMIA generates monthly inbound travel for some 30,000 passengers wherein - half of which are foreign visitors. Its existing passenger terminal can accommodate 2.5 million passenger movements but once the second phase of the terminal is completed this year, its holding capacity will reach 10 million, he said. On the other hand, the volume of domestic visitor arrivals in the entire region has reached the one millionth mark based on statistics gathered by local government units (LGUs) wherein 50 percent of which is generated by both Clark and Subic. The tourism road infrastructure project is expected to interlink all the provinces in Central Luzon to the gateway in Clark. In so doing, "we are optimistic that it will increase visitor traffic in all the provinces, bolster the economic development of the entire region and at the same time, create more jobs for all," he said. He said the final draft of the project for Region 3 is expected to be formally submitted to DPWH by April 9, 2012 for inclusion in their 2013 work program.Link: http://www.mb.com.ph wackyjet26 January 28th, 2012, 01:24 AM nice wackyjet! It's part of my thesis and have spoken in seminars all around the Philippines about local media. Hindi basehan ang language ng station para maging "Best Provincial TV Station". I'm not saying these out of nothing. This is my field. I've been to other provinces and tuned in to provincial TV stations and they use their own language. GMA Davao for instance has a balance of Tagalog and Bisaya programming. They know what they are doing but they don't know enough, about setting oneself apart and using your own identity (Kapampangan) as center point of your programming. This is TV. It's audio-visual. There can always be subtitles. As someone who has been directing Kapampangan films and producing Kapampangan music that has penetrated even national media in Manila (which is Tagalog-dominated), I can really say na mali ang notion nila, na feeling nila wala silang mapapala kung magka-Kapampangan sila. There was a time when my team tried to come up with a Kapampangan TV series. We screened the pilot episode even in Metro Manila schools and they liked it very much without pretense, kahit na Kapampangan ang salita, and according to feedback forms, they are looking forward to it at sana daw mapalabas din sa Manila area (through Skycable). Mabuhay Channel -- a Filipino cable channel in the USA -- emailed me and said it wanted to syndicate our show. TAKE NOTE: the show is in full Kapampangan, with English subtitles. (the project didn't push through because of Vivian Dabu and Among Ed, but that's another story) So will it hurt if CLTV will have for example 3 Kapampangan shows with Tagalog/English subtitles? So, does CLTV really know what they're doing? if they have the will, they can produce Kapampangan shows and if they're good enough, they can even sell them in other cable stations all around the Philippines. Puwedeng i-dub, puwedeng i-sub. But I guess they are not aggressive, ambitious enough, stuck in "mag-Tagalog na lang tayo para safe." Another thing, for a loooooong time, CLTV 36 has been airing my Kapampangan short film BALANGINGI with English subtitles. They always aired it. Why? Because a lot liked it. And I hear it is frequently requested. This short film also happened to have won in the ETC Best Short Film category of the 1st Philippine Digital Awards in Pasay City. Again, it's another case of a Kapampangan language product earning merits in non-Kapampangan places. LewnNdrMRFY Basically, why do you prefer na walang Kapampangan content sa CLTV36? You're anti-Kapampangan? I remember a time when I was interviewed in one CLTV 36 show. I wanted to speak in Kapampangan but they wouldn't let me. But I insisted. Wala silang magagawa. Ako ang guest. AND ANOTHER THING, if you know the ordinances in Pampanga, IT IS REQUIRED for local media in Pampanga to have Kapampangan content. Do your research and you'll see what I'm talking about. Bat ang angeles city wala palang tv station? di ba dapat meron kase Angeles ang entertainment capital kaya dapat meron ding tv station hindi yung internet tv yung gaya ng GNN TV 44, Channel 12, cltv36, etc...? same as why Manila doesn't have a TV station while all big media outfits are in Quezon City. pag sinabing Angeles as entertainment capital, it means live entertainment -- bars, showbands, casinos. although it would be nice na may sariling free TV station ang Angeles, it is not practical as of the moment especially since it's not the political/information center of Pampanga. but if there were to be a real Kapampangan TV station, I would want it in Angeles because it's the geographically the center of the Kapampangan region, i.e., it is in between 1) san fernando and southern kapampangan towns in the south and 2) tarlac city and northern Kapampangan towns in the north kaya naman ang "Kapampangan Ku, Pagmaragul Ku" ng GVAM ay dinig mula Baguio hanggang Manila :) I bet this show, kahit na Kapampangan na puro, has a bigger audience than any of CLTV's Tagalog shows. Another suspicious reason why CLTV is nagmamaka-Tagalog is because the owner of CLTV, Levy Laus wants Metro Pampanga to merge with Manila in the far future, forming the Manila Megapolis. I heard him say this in one interview.. which means, pag nangyari yun, hindi na tayo Kapampangan region, but a mere "part" of Tagalog Mega Manila. I refuse that. sisigman January 28th, 2012, 09:18 AM Sensya na po medyo off topic... Sana gayahin ng Maynila ang pagka clean and green ng Clark :) Di puwedeng i-compare and Clark sa Manila. Pidjung January 29th, 2012, 09:12 AM Kapampangan theater group up for US tour By Ian Ocampo Flora (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/taxonomy/term/46) Saturday, January 28, 2012 STA. RITA — Local theater group Arti.Sta Rita is set on another international tour in May to bring cultural productions to Kapampangan communities based in the United States. Arti.Sta Rita creative director Andy Alviz told Sun.Star Pampanga that the US tour, dubbed: “Mikit Tamu king Milabas” is produced by Hype Productions owned by Filipino expatriate Peter Marcelo. He said the tour aims to share to Kapampangans in the United States the new songs and performances of their group. The group is set to hold performances at the Bovard Auditorium at the University of Southern California (May 5), Birch North Park Theater, San Diego (May 12), South San Francisco High School Auditorium (May 19) and at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center in New York (May 26). The group will also hold a show at the St. Anthony Catholic School in Guam (June 2). “We hope to bring Kapampangans world-class entertainment to old and younger generations. We hope to get them reacquainted with their roots and culture through our performances,” Alviz said. Alviz said their group is now embarking on long practice hours to prepare for the upcoming shows in the US. Arti.Sta Rita is the local theater group organized by Miss Saigon choreographer Andy Alviz. The group is composed of volunteer artists, singers and performers coming from the different sectors of the town. The group’s membership practically mans all aspects of the group’s theater productions. The group promotes Kapampangan culture and traditions through songs and theater performances. It has produced albums of Kapampangan songs and has staged performances at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and toured the United States to bring their shows to Kapampangan communities there. Alviz and his group Arti.Sta Rita are credited for starting the Duman Festival in 2002, which originated from the long-standing tradition of pounding and winnowing unripe glutinous rice (lacatan) and turned into a light pale gold or green delicacy called “duman.” Published in the Sun.Star Pampanga newspaper on January 29, 2012. I remember Ferdinand Lapuz of Angeles City -- producer of the Cannes-competing "Serbis" and the Kapampangan film "Masahista," both films of Brillante Mendoza -- suggesting na magkaroon ng Location Management System din sa Pampanga for TV and movies na nagshushoot dito. Kaso, his suggestion was not heeded. Probably because the Governor then was Among Ed and he barely listened to anything. Kasi two of his Kapampangan films always portrayed Kapampangans as prostitutes. MASAHISTA - Set in San Fernando/Manila; about a Kapampangan masseur/callboy. Also showcases: Kapampangan language, Kapampangan superstitions related to death, Giant Lantern festival KALELDO - Set in Bacolor/Guagua; about the lives of three sisters 10 years after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo. Also showcases: Kapampangan language, dukit (woodcarving), atsara-making, San Guillermo Church of Bacolor, traditional wedding/reception, Megadike MANORO - Set in Sapang Bato, Angeles City; about a young Aeta girl teaching her elders how to write so they can participate in the National Election. 'It’s more fun in the Ilocos Region' By Walden Martinez Belen | Yahoo! Southeast Asia Newsroom – 8 hours ago It’s more fun to do movies, music videos and even TV commercials in the Ilocos region. Whether you’re an amateur or veteran producer and filmmaker, using the Ilocos sceneries as your backdrop will lessen your cost of production. You’ll even get other perks aside from having a beautiful backdrop. These are part of the incentives one gets from filming in Ilocos, making it a fun experience. And it’s all because of Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos! Gov. Imee said she was able to set up a location management system in Ilocos that gives incentives to films and commercials that are shooting in the region. And she said that they are getting good responses because of the growth in the numbers of filming activities in Ilocos. Incentives “Yung incentives namin, kapag dumating ka sa Ilocos, sagot namin ang parte ng gastos ninyo sa accommodation, transportation, locations and catering. Hangga’t kaya namin, we’ll counterpart. Hindi naman 50/50 kasi sobrang bigat na lalo na kapag foreign films. Pero kung konti lang, TY (thank you) na lang natin para makatulong,” explained Gov. Imee. Decades ago, Ilocos had provided backdrops for Hollywood films like “Born in the Fourth of July” starring Tom Cruise, and the first “Mad Max” which catapulted Mel Gibson to fame. There were also Roger Corman’s grindhouse double feature films that were shot in Ilocos. There had been many local films like “Temptation Island” that were shot in Ilocos. The “Panday” movie series of Fernando Poe, Jr. were also shot in Ilocos, making it one of the province’s biggest sources of income, according to Gov. Imee. She shared, “Dekada 70 when we started this. Ang maganda sa film, maliban sa art aspect, maraming hanap-buhay, maraming na-hire kaya gustong-gusto namin noon na mag-location dito ang mga American films. Dahil yung location, van rental, helicopter rental, accommodation, hotels, lahat na a t madaming Pinoy talents - crew, musikero at iba pa na kinukuha. Hopefully we’ll start up again with 'Bourne Legacy' and 'Survivor' at iba’t-ibang reality series. We’re also in negotiations with other projects. Sana sunod-sunod na.” Promoting the province Ilocos also benefits from filmmaking activities because the province is promoted indirectly in their films or TV ads. “Para sa amin malaking bagay yan. Hindi naman namin afford ang lumabas sa TV ads pero kung kami ang gamitin like for the car ads, sa Patapat Waterduct sa Pagudpod, o di kaya sa mga sun dunes or yung white rocks sa Burgos, na-advertise na kami. Parang ‘Hawaii Five O,’ kahit backdrop naalala ng mga tao ang Hawaii. Kami naman parang ‘Paway Five O,’” remarked Gov. Imee smiling. Last year too, Ilocos had a small film festival with the Film Development Council of the Philippines. Gov. Imee hopes to have another one soon but it must be a film festival for film exchange, distributors and promoters of films too. Her goal is to help the independent film industry. “Ang problema yung promotion kasi hindi makapasok sa media, sa TV, sa print, at ikalawa di makapasok sa sinehan yung distribution, so we have to discuss digital theaters. We also have to discuss alternate venues for indie films. That is what we’re analyzing. So perhaps we should have a film fest about that. Binibiro ko nga kung may Sundance sa America, may Sun-dunes Film Festival sa Ilocos Norte,” Gov. Imee quipped. The governor is excited about the road-trip movie of Brillante Mendoza which the landscapes of Ilocos will play a big role in. It is also speculated that Brillante’s film is for the Cannes Film Festival. While that is still in the making, Gov. Imee’s indie-film “Pintakasi,” which won New Wave Best Indie Film and New Wave Best Actor for JM de Guzman at the 37th Metro Manila Film Festival last year will have its screening on Feb. 8 in SM Megamall, Mall of Asia, SM Fairview, SM Marikina, SM North EDSA, SM Cebu and SM Iloilo and on Feb. 29 in SM Baguio, SM Davao and SM Batangas. cabalen25 January 29th, 2012, 04:03 PM May I ask if this area where I took these shots is still part of Angeles? Solon wants House to okay bill creating Metro Clark free port A LEGISLATOR is urging the leadership of the House of Representatives to immediately approve the legislation seeking to create the Metropolitan Clark Freeport Zone, (MCFZ) which could make Clark Freeport Zone live up to its true economic potential. House Bill 4843, or the proposed Metropolitan Clark Freeport Zone Act of 2011 seeks to replace the Clark Development Council (CDC) and be developed and operated as a self-sustaining, commercial, financial, investment and tourism metropolis. Lakas-Kampi-CMD Rep. Carmelo Lazatin of Pampanga, author of the bill, said the proposed new free-port zone will have a recreational center and free port with suitable retirement and residential areas to create employment opportunities and attract local and foreign investors. “It is the declared policy of the government to actively encourage, promote, induce and accelerate a sound and balanced industrial, economic and social development of the country in order to provide jobs to the people especially those in the rural areas,” said Lazatin. Lazatin said “the state shall improve the level and quality of their condition through the establishment, among others, of special economic zones and free ports in suitable and strategic locations in the country and through measures that shall effectively attract legitimate and productive foreign investments.” He said the MCFZ shall be governed by a corporate body to be known as the Metropolitan Clark Freeport Zone Authority to manage and operate the zone. As embodied in the bill, business establishments operating within the zone shall be entitled to the existing fiscal incentives as provided under Presidential Decree 66, the law creating The Export Processing Zone Authority And Revising Republic Act 5490, or those provided under Book IV of Executive Order 226, or the Omnibus Investments Code of 1987. The measure provides that no local and national taxes shall be imposed on business establishments operating within the zone. In lieu of paying taxes, business establishments shall pay and remit to the national government 5 percent of their gross income. Under the bill, existing banking laws and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) rules and regulations shall apply on foreign exchange and other current account transactions (trade and nontrade), local and foreign borrowings, foreign investments, establishment and operation of local and foreign banks, foreign-currency deposit units, offshore banking units and other financial institutions under the supervision of the BSP. The proposed free-port zone shall have an authorized capital stock of P2 billion on par shares with a minimum issue value of P10 each. The national government shall initially subscribe and fully pay P300 million shares of capital stock. source (http://businessmirror.com.ph/home/pf/16778-transition-in-shell-.html) future_proof January 29th, 2012, 04:33 PM http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7030/6713872077_0707edd84b_b.jpg few more years, additional 9 storeys and a 12 storeys ang madagadgad dito.both in Holy Angel University. Just my two cents. haha si ep1p talaga. :ohno: Angeles has long been bullied in spite of its greatness, which we often take for granted. I myself am a "warrior" of not just Pampanga, but the whole Kapampangan region -- including Southern Tarlac, Northern Bataan, and Southwestern Nueva Ecija. I am proud to say I have traveled to all these Kapampangan towns more than people who claim buong Pampanga ang mahal nila. I happen to be aware of San Fernando's constant badmouthing of Angeles kaya I need to strengthen the defense of Angeles. Of course not all Fernandinos are badmouthing Angeles, but I know a lot, especially from the government and business sector. They always flex San Fernando muscles, at kapag Angeles naman ang nagflex ng muscles niya, balat-sibuyas sila. There was one time I was approaching a San Fernando government office for a cultural project encompassing the WHOLE KAPAMPANGAN REGION, and my project was rejected on the sole basis of my being an Angeleno. One officer even said, "lumipat ka na lang dito sa San Fernando." Let's admit it -- the "Fernandino" identity is stronger than "Angeleno." Fernandino are aggressive in setting themselves apart, na kung ako lang, gusto ko e Kapampangan tayong lahat. Angeles City happens to be where I grew up (I was born in a hospital in San Fernando, spent the first two years of my life in Porac where my motherside relatives are, while my fatherside heritage belongs to Minalin and Sta. Rita) and it so happened na maraming major developments dito. Honestly, this thread is not just for us Kapampangans, but for outsiders who wish to see the major developments in Angeles/Pampanga. I happen to prefer that they see infrastructure development news (na undeniably ay nasa Angeles at San Fernando) than minor news on new barangay tricycles or what. I don't want outsiders peeking in here and seeing how backwards Pampanga is with the proliferation of typical low-level barangay news. Now you fault me for often featuring Angeles developments? (for the record, I have posted a lot about other towns too, even pictures). On another note, there's a MABALACAT STOP CORRUPTION page in Facebook which concerned Kapampangans should really check out. Even though the original territory of the Kapampangans have shrunk throughout the colonial times and Kapampangan nationalism has been de-imagined by the contemporary political structuring which resulted from the Spaniards' carving out of provinces from the larger "La Pampanga," Kapampangans still remain one of the major ethnolinguistic groups in the Philippines. Out of the towns of Bataan, Calaguiman and Mabatang (a barangay in Abucay) are the places known to be dominantly Kapampangan. Twice already, I, along with fellow curious ones, have engaged in exposure trips to the place to check out our kabalen there. The place names in Bataan seem to come from different languages. It is to no denial though that some of them are in Kapampangan. For instance, there are also a Paroba and a Paralaya in Abucay, Bataan, like in Pampanga. Both are Kapampangan words which are directions: either going to Mount Arayat (paralaya) or away (paroba). We were able to speak with the employees--who were not to our surprise Kapampangans--in the Barangay Hall of Mabatang on our first trip. From a Northern Kapampangan point of view, the first thing to quickly notice about their speech is that their Kapampangan accent is very different. But aside from that, what surprised us more was the fact that the Kapampangans of Mabatang still employ what appears like 17th century Kapampangan (as recorded in Fray Diego Bergano's Vocabulario). Take a look at a small list of words comparing the Kapampangan dominantly employed in Pampanga, the Kapampangan of Bataan, and the Kapampangan as noted in Bergano: Pampanga - Bataan - Bergano bale - balay - balay alto - altao - altao bigak - abiak - abbiac biye - biyay - biyay imi - ingi - iyi pate - patay - patay tete - tetay - tetay If you want to listen to a recording of our conversation with them to hear for yourselves, click on "Mabatang Dialect of Kapampangan" in my Podomatic player on your right. Aside from these, they also use Kapampangan words and expressions not familiar to Pampangans. For instance, what we would say as "Tuki ku" (I'll come [with...]) in our dialect, they would say "Musi ku" (usi - to go with). We say: lintik (drizzle), they say: tigatik. We say: magobra ka (you work), they say: galao ka. We say: manyese na ka, they say: magtrabahu na ka. We say: manugtu ku (I'll eat lunch), they say: manabak ku. We say: ila pin den (those are it), they say: ila pin dean. What does this imply? It means it is politically incorrect to assert that Bataan/Bergano Kapampangan is a dead form of Kapampangan, because it is still alive. It would be arrogant for us in Pampanga, too to say that our style of Kapampangan is "truer" and should be followed and theirs is wrong and should be corrected. As a valid language, it is natural for Kapampangan to have its own dialects. With what we witnessed, it is safe to conclude then that Kapampangan in Pampanga is young compared to Bataan/Bergano. However, no dialect is correct because both are under one language: Kapampangan. It's just a matter of the one being older and the other one younger, and that is part of language evolution. This discovery will pose a problem to advocates of Kapampangan standardization, as the choice of dialect will be an issue. The appointed standard Kapampangan will be elevated in higher status, while the other dialects will be deemed incorrect by society, especially by the academe, as in the case of formal English and Black American English. However, I deem it more practical to base standard Kapampangan from Pampanga Kapampangan, not because I am a speaker of the dialect, but because most, if not all, Kapampangan literary pieces, including the Christian Bible, are in the Pampanga dialect. Mabatang Kapampangan, while still existing, seems to be limited only to speech and crude non-governmental vandalisms. Even the eldest Kapampangans of Mabatang--Jose "Apung Moises" Bautista, 95 and a sister-in-law, 98--have no pieces of Kapampangan writing. Apung Moises, who told us in an interview that he used to be a writer of, director of, and actor in zarzuelas during his younger days never wrote a single Kapampangan literary piece (all are in Tagalog). What is then to be avoided is the arrogance of calling other dialects of Kapampangan mistaken. Languages after all are standardized usually for academic purposes, like research papers, essays, etc., and for formal negotiations (but never for the literary arts and casual conversations). This is just my opinion; if you have a better suggestion, do propose it. Back to Apung Moises. He is a well-known person in their place, not only because of his literary and theatrical engagements back in the day, but also because of his old age, making him a treasure trove of historical information. According to him, Bataan used to be part of Lubao, making the place indeed dominantly Kapampangan. He said, too that according to oral history passed to him from the elders of his time, including his parents, the Kapampangans in Bataan sailed from Macabebe through the Pampanga Bay. Tagalogs began to spread when Chinese migrants from Manila (with surnames like Lim and Ong) brought with them Tagalog laborers to create plaisdan (fish ponds) out of the fields. Apung Moises still has a lot of stories to tell, including those about the World War II. These are tales of great importance especially in the formation of the local history of the Kapampangan race. He had also encountered well-known people such as Luis Taruc (a fellow zarzuela participant) and Fernando Poe, Sr., whom he claims knew how to speak Kapampangan. A huge number of children still speak Kapampangan. Like in Pampanga, some no longer speak it, either because they are children of Tagalog migrants or were socialized to speak Tagalog by the parents, regardless of ethnicity. It is hard to say that their dialect is endangered, but nevertheless, it should be protected from further language shift, should be empowered among its speakers (because some think their dialect is a tainted type of Kapampangan), and should undergo intellectualization through time. Anakbayan, in a statement, said the three Bachelor of Science Community Development students were in the community for their field work, which they said is "a requirement for all Community Development students before they can graduate." Among the three is Anton Dulce, 25, who is incidentally the national vice-chairperson of Anakbayan. "We condemn, in the strongest terms possible, the actions of the military as an attack on academic freedom and the very institution of the University. Due to the incident, the students have been unable to return to the community out of fear of further attacks by the military," Anakbayan said. Anakbayan also said the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has now resorted to tagging as "terrorists" and "NPAs" "anyone who critiques and questions government policies and programs, as well as anyone who tries to assist the rural and urban poor in addressing their various social problems." "It is programs like that of the Department of Community Development, which continues to make UP relevant in understanding and addressing Philippine social problems. Yet the AFP itself is directing its violence against such programs. The military has clearly shown that it is anti-development and anti-peace," Anakbayan said. The group is also calling on the Department of Justice to immediately act upon and investigate the incident. The 70th Infantry Division, meanwhile, said it is now closely coordinating with UP faculty members, including some of the field supervisors who went to Porac last Friday for further inquiries. The inquiry is led by Major Harold Cabunoc of the Office of the Army Public Affairs Office. Cabunoc said the faculty of UP was surprised by the press release/statement of Anakbayan while UP was still conducting an inquiry to the incident. "The Philippine Army and the College of Social Work and Community Development of the University of the Philippines have had several conversations related to the incident and are coordinating to assure the safety of the Community Development students so they can continue conducting fieldwork in Porac. Maj. Cabunoc, the concerned UP students, and the faculty of UP are set to meet again anytime this week. They are looking into the possibility of letting the students go back to Pampanga to continue the school activity," the AFP said in the statement. The AFP said it is not its policy to practice the use of force beyond legal means, more so physically assaulting a civilian. "We will not stop investigating even if per verification with the police blotter from the area indicates that the men who allegedly assaulted the students were not soldiers. If ever we will find out that any of our personnel has resorted to extralegal means related to this incident, we will make sure the soldier will be held liable for such acts," the AFP said. Tignan nyo magsusumbong sa admin ang mga yan na parang bata para ka ma-ban. :ohno::nuts::bash: haha si ep1p talaga. Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos. In a meeting on Wednesday, Morales has given SMCC officials the go signal to start their expansion project. “This is an indication that a lot of investors are coming to Clark since our area is strategically located,” Morales said. SMCC Mall manager Ana Datu said the expansion will be carried out as soon as possible and is expected to be completed before 2013. “We will bring more tenants and expand the al fresco area,” Datu said. Datu also clarified that SMCC will not cut down trees to give way to their expansion. “We will be integrating them (trees) to our expanded area,” she said. It can be recalled that SM City Baguio has faced protests after pronouncing that they will cut hundreds of trees to give way to their expansion project. Navales Thursday, February 2, 2012 CLARK FREEPORT -- The “Taboan: Philippine Writers Festival” will be held inside the Freeport on February 9-11. National Artists for Literature Virgilio Almario, Bienvenido Lumbera and Sionil Jose will join writers Butch Dalisay, Aida Rivera Ford, Charlson Ong and other poets, playwrights, fictionists and novelists from different parts of the country. The writers will converge in Fontana Leisure Park for a conference, book bazaar and for the first time in the history of Taboan, a food-and-culture tour. Other events include a zarzuela performance and the Taboan Awards & Cultural Night, both of which will be hosted by Systems Plus College Foundation (SPCF) in Balibago, Angeles City. Led by Kapampangan literature specialist Dr. Juliet Mallari and NCLA head Chancellor Priscilla Macansantos, the Taboan in Pampanga has partnered with Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and SPCF to welcome the literary luminaries to the festival. De Leon Monday, February 13, 2012 CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The creation of parallel service roads along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) is very near to realization. Mayor Oscar Rodriguez and public works officials inspected recently sites, areas near Jose Abad Santos Avenue close to the NLEx entry and exit gates, where Councilor Alex Patio proposed to put up the said service roads. Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos. Patio’s proposal -- seen to cost some P600 million -- turned into an ordinance complete with plans, and instantly earned the nod of officials locally and nationally, with even the Road Board backing it up, since it was first hatched. During the inspection led by Rodriguez, stakeholders were thumbs up for the long-delayed proposal. “Actually, the San Fernando side of the projected parallel roads has been acquired by Transco a few years ago. So, these proposed service roads on our map at 15 meters plus 15 meters in the San Fernando side will not create problems at all. They are government property and we can start the project soon,” City Engineer Nelson Lingat said. Patio’s proposal and ordinance for the service roads, which starts from Apalit and ends in Mabalacat, is seen to boost the NLEx growth corridor, aside from decongesting heavy traffic along MacArthur Highway. The San Jose-Jasa portion of the project alone will cost about P40 million. “But that is so little considering the benefits. I believe the municipality of Mexico has already passed an ordinance on these service roads. On our side, studies are ongoing for this project we deem would lead to Pampanga’s growth,” said Rodriguez. Please... sisigman February 15th, 2012, 05:26 AM Kapampangans take part in Cinema Rehiyon Film Festival BACOLOD CITY — From February 7 to 12, independent filmmakers from different provinces gathered in this city to celebrate the 4th Cinema Rehiyon Film Festival, in spite of proximity with Negros Oriental, where an intense earthquake occurred recently. An annual non-competition film festival, Cinema Rehiyon is a project of the Cinema Committee of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) during the National Arts Month. The works of the province-originating filmmakers are screened continuously for free in a public venue, such as Gaisano Mall in Davao City in last year's edition, and Robinsons Bacolod this year. The screenings are followed by an open forum with the directors and, if present, actors. Three Kapampangan films represented the province of Pampanga this year. These films were "Ing Babaing Mapamalit SIM" (The Switcher) by Kragi Garcia of Macabebe, "Sumangid" (Other Side) by Jason Paul Laxamana of Angeles City, and "Aliwa Mu Aku" (Not Alone) by first-time filmmaker Kirby Araullo of the City of San Fernando, now based in Davis, California. Laxamana, who has been participating in Cinema Rehiyon since the first year it was held, expressed how envious he is with other provinces like Cebu, Davao, and Negros. "There has been an irregular production of Kapampangan films in Cinema Rehiyon," he said. "During the first Cinema Rehiyon, only one Kapampangan short film represented Pampanga, even though there was really no Pampanga category then. 'Ing Bangkeru' (The Boatman) was placed in the category 'Other Parts of Luzon.' During the second year, five Kapampangan films were programmed in the festival. Pampanga enjoyed a powerful presence through the two best pictures of the first Sinukwan Kapampangan Film Competition: 'Balikbalen' (Homecoming) by Kragi Garcia and 'Ing Magdarame' (The Penitent) by JV Trinidad. 'Pupul' (Harvest) by then-Bb. Pilipinas candidate Nicolette Henson was also part of the festival, along with 'Ding Musa ning Minalin' (The Muses of Minalin) by Diego Dobles and my own short film 'Dusing' (Dirt). Our very own Brillante Mendoza also graced the event to support the Kapampangan filmmakers." The first Sinukwan Kapampangan Film Competition did not have a sequel. As a result, only one Kapampangan film, albeit a star-laden, full-length one, made it to the third Cinema Rehiyon held in Davao City. The film was 'Astro Mayabang' (Astro the Proud) by Laxamana, which was a finalist in the 2010 Cinema One Originals Film Festival. It starred Arron Villaflor, Megan Young, John Lapus, Hermes Bautista, Marco Morales, and Crystal Herrera, and was shot mainly in Angeles City in the Kapampangan language. Next year's Cinema Rehiyon will be held in Los Banos, Laguna. By then, hopefully there will be more Kapampangan films to represent Pampanga. Laxamana, who happens to be the Luzon Representative of the NCCA Cinema Committee, looks forward to Angeles City hosting a future edition of Cinema Rehiyon, but not until a strong filmmaking movement emerges in the Kapampangan region. "There should be a continuous filmmaking movement among Kapampangans," Laxamana asserted. "Aspiring filmmakers from the province should take advantage of the proliferation of DSLR cameras with outstanding HD video. It makes filmmaking more possible even to the regular high school or college student." "But apart from that, Kapampangan filmmakers should also learn how to write culture-based screenplays instead of patterning their stories with what they see on mainstream TV and cinema. They should observe life in their immediate surroundings, examine the Kapampangan experience, and express their findings artistically through cinema. This is what will make our films unique — our being Kapampangan." For regular announcements related to Kapampangan filmmaking, please search the group "Kapampangan Filmmakers" on Facebook and join. In an interview, Garcia said Central Luzon is strong as well when asked by Punto about how confident they are in investing in Region III. There are also big improvements in infrastructure in the past three years. With those everything seems accessible (in Central Luzon). What used to be two hours of travel is now reduced to 30 or 45 minutes, she added. Garcia and SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPI) President Hans Sy led the opening of the SM Olongapo on Saturday, , bringing to six their malls in the region. She also announced that the SM San Fernando will open on May 18, bringing to three their malls in Pampanga and a total of seven in the region by mid-2012. The other malls of SMPI in Central Luzon are in Marilao and Baliwag in Bulacan and Tarlac City in Tarlac province. We are always looking for opportunities Garcia said when asked if SMPI will invest in other Central Luzon provinces, including Bataan, Aurora and Nueva Ecija. As we remember right, it was the Honorable Alex Patio that made a strong advocacy for the roads, crafted an enabling ordinance complete with plans, and even reached out to the local councils of the other towns the roads would traverse. As we read it right, Patio’s P600-million proposal gained the approval of practically everyone, not the least of whom were the owners of subdivisions and housing development projects, as well as sugarcane planters where the parallel roads shall pass. Yes, we remember Architect Nestor Mangio of Lakeshore, was an ardent supporter of the plan, indeed, a proponent at its initial hatching when now-Senator Lito Lapid was in his first term as Pampanga governor. It is really good to read of the Honorable Mayor Oscar S. Rodriguez and public works officials recently inspecting areas around the Jose Abad Santos Avenue close to the egress and ingress of NLEx where the parallel roads would connect. And City Engineer Nelson Lingat saying: “Actually, the San Fernando side of the projected parallel roads has been acquired by Transco a few years ago. So, these proposed service roads on our map at 15 meters plus 15 meters in the San Fernando side will not create problems at all. They are government property and we can start the project soon.” So that San Fernando portion – from San Jose to JASA – alone will cost P40 million. “That is so little considering the benefits.” So was Mayor Rodriguez quoted as saying, finding no need to mention the obvious – the economic stimulus the parallel roads will spark among the city’s interior barangays, the facility of travel, the decongestion of MacArthur Highway. And yes, the definitive end to the massacre of trees along the Manila North Road which would not require any expansion then. You’re right on track here, Mayor. ANG GANDA NITO APALIT TO MABALACAT ANG SERVICE ROAD SA NLEX SANA SUPPORT ITO PARA MATULOY PATI ANGELES DAHIL MADADAANAN DIN Karisma February 16th, 2012, 11:20 AM In the running By Bong Lacson Feb 13, 2012 OF COURSE, Dr. Rey Aquino is running for mayor of San Fernando again. What you mean to say is Dr. Rey Aquino wants to run for mayor of San Fernando again. No. What I mean is what I just said: Dr. Rey Aquino is running for mayor of San Fernando again. Or are you just so dense as to fail to see that the campaign for the 2013 mid-term elections is already very much on-going? Zaldy Ampatuan – of the local media, that is – is as keen as ever in his perspective when it comes to local politics. Yes, in fact, the 2013 campaign season is well open. The signs are all over, some subtle, most crudely obvious. In the case of Aquino, there were some tarpaulins hanging around the city and his foot ads in the front page of Sun-Star Pampanga wishing the Fernandinos a happy 11th cityhood anniversary. Nagpaparamdam na. So said Zaldy A. of the former mayor and dismissed Philhealth president as it was the first time he ever greeted his former constituents on the occasion of the capital’s transformation into a city. Graduating Vice Gov. Yeng Guiao could have served as Aquino’s template with these political feelers, having mounted – last Christmas season yet – his own tarpaulins around the first district and his foot ads in Sun-Star Pampanga’s front page too with the obviously non-electioneering “Youth Empowerment for the New Generation,” acronymed “YENG,” as if you did not see. Also last Christmas season, there was term-ending City of San Fernando councilor Ato Agustin’s streamered yuletide message ubiquitously red-marked VM-2013. As the Caluag couple of Vilma and Melchor had obviously nothing to do with the Petron Blaze coach, so VM there could only stand for vice mayor. Early bird maybe Agustin in his vice mayoralty bid but not far behind is Atty. Rolly Macalino who in all likelihood is trading his BM – board membership – to VM. By the last week of January, heart-decorated tarpaulins displaying Macalino’s lover-boy looks sprouted all over the city with the dedication Biseng-bise man ako, kayo pa rin lagi ang laman ng aking puso.” I suddenly missed then-Mayor Aquino’s Valentine message of long ago– “I Love You Day” – posted on just about very electric pole in the city which I appropriated as my own very public display of affection for my wife Dorothy – ‘Day (short for Inday) being my term of endearment for her. Finding most opportune time too in this Valentine season to launch his bid is Mexico Mayor Teddy Canlas Tumang whose simple Happy Valentine’s Day tarpaulin carried the promise of “Genuine serVICE, Good GOVernance.” Mayhaps the earliest of the early birds for 2013 – having come out sometime in late 2010 yet, so Zaldy A. himself said – is Mabalacat Vice Mayor Noel Castro with the cryptic “MKM” in his streamers. Vagueness obtaining in a message almost always leads to misapprehension among the intended audience. So we learn in Communications 101. Ambiguity obtaining in a message subjects it to misinterpretation among the intended audience or even manipulation by the messager’s enemies. So it is impacted in Propaganda 101. Hence “MKM” spawned a host of totally unintended meanings that raised not Castro’s political stock for the mayorship but derisive laughter at his expense. Like what? How about manyak, murit, moronic, maninap, malilyu, mamerwisyu, magsasa, magmais for the first M alone? Supply meanings to the K and the second M and get a hearty laugh out of it. No, I am not writing here my own take of MKM. I still have one libel case to finally bury deep in an ignominious grave, notwithstanding its being dismissed at the Office of the City Prosecutor and the motion for reconsideration by the plaintiff denied by the Deputy Regional Prosecutor. So I will just say, welcome to 2013. And hope that all wannabes come up with really creative and intelligence-raising campaign collaterals. As in “Sure shot. Sure Win. Pavia 2013. “ Like. Comment. Initiated by Lazatin, the project will be undertaken through the help of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Angeles City-Sub Office. During the rites on Friday, Lazatin was joined by Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, City Council members, barangay captain Teofilo Casupanan and barangay council members. “The construction of the Leoncia Bridge is vital to boost the economy in our district,” Lazatin said. Meanwhile, Mayor Pamintuan said the completion of the bridge would bring more investments to the city. The construction of the 36.80-linear-meter bridge is expected to be completed on or before June 25, 2012. As testament of his commitment to public service, Lazatin has implemented a total of P1.1 billion worth of infrastructure for the first district from 2007 to present. I'm not sure what your goal is for going here, but some foreign retirees prefer island living in the south (Cebu or Boracay) while some prefer wasting their time away in bars drinking. Clark is home to many foreigners (Americans, Aussies, Japanese, Koreans) because of its relaxed vibe (although lately Metro Clark has boomed so much, hence congested roads, steep apartment rent, etc). Still, I think Clark is a better choice for young people like you who would want to try it out here in the Philippines. It's a decent bet, especially since it's a transport hub both locally and areas in Asia, and the amenities are far better compared elsewhere. Dara Falls is getting deeper! After lahar struck Porac, Dara[bulbul] Falls was no longer the major waterfall that it used to be. But with the frequent visits I've had for the past three years, I can really say that it is once again getting deeper. In fact, kids can now dive without getting hurt, unlike before. Locals said that Lito Lapid has purchased the area and intends to make it some sort of resort. I don't know if that's a good thing. Perhaps we'll just wait and see. I hope its nature feel doesn't get stripped off when Lapid intervenes. 5D2-lqeIDYc movingtoPI February 19th, 2012, 06:36 AM im confused since i dont speak tagalog, why did the other thread get locked? is it ok for me to ask my questions over here? The facility, which is a joint venture with SIA Engineering (SIAEC), is due to open later this year, according to Garry Kingshott, advisor to the airline’s chief executive, speaking at the Low Cost Airlines Asia conference in Singapore last week. The joint venture, known as SIA Engineering (Philippines), is 65 percent owned by SIAEC, with Cebu Pacific controlling the rest. The present narrowbody hangar accommodates single-aisle aircraft with capabilities including scheduled heavy maintenance checks, airframe structural inspections, repairs, modifications, paint-stripping, painting of aircraft exteriors and nondestructive testing checks. “Engineering and maintenance are the second largest costs after fuel, and need to be managed,” said Kingshott. SIA Engineering (Philippines) plans to build three hangars that will span 290,000 sq ft when completed. With space at Singapore’s Changi International Airport at a premium, the facility***–which is located within 15 minutes’ flight time of Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport and within four flight hours of major north Asian markets such as China, Korea, Japan and Hong Kong–is expected to offer a lower-cost maintenance alternative for airlines. Current clients of Clark-based SIA engineering include Mandala Airlines, Tiger Air and AirPhil. sisigman February 19th, 2012, 11:04 AM SUPER WOW! Puwede na kong mag-Boracay via Clark! Hahaha. Strange though that Airphil chose Kalibo over Caticlan. I've been to Davao, Cebu, and Puerto Princesa, and I had to travel all the way to NAIA just to catch my flight. Many times, I have missed my flight because of heavy traffic in Metro Manila. I hope dumami pa ang domestic flights -- Bacolod, Cagayan De Oro, Caticlan. Airphil Express opens 4 new routes via Clark By Mary Ann Reyes (The Philippine Star) Updated February 10, 2012 12:00 AM MANILA, Philippines - Airphil Express, the fastest growing budget carrier in the country, is expanding its service capabilities further with the launch of four new routes to and from Clark starting March 29. The additional routes are Davao, Cebu, Kalibo and Puerto Prinsesa, bringing the total number of its daily scheduled trips to 32 local destinations. The Clark-Cebu route will fly twice in the morning every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, while the Clark-Davao route will fly twice in the morning every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The Clark-Kalibo route, meanwhile, will fly four times (two in the morning, two in the afternoon) every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Finally, the Clark-Puerto Princesa route will fly four times every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. “With its highly improved road network and increasing flights, Clark is setting out to become a natural entry point to major tourist destinations and a major hub for business and tourism in the country,” according to Alfredo Herrera, Airphil senior vice president for sales and marketing. “Aside from being a major part of the company’s growth plans this year, one other reason why we have decided to offer flights from Clark is so we may bring our services closer to people in Pampanga and the nearby areas. It goes hand in hand with our commitment to help spur growth for the country’s economy via the promotion of local tourism in the area,” he added. Due to the immense volume of passengers expected to be shuttling to and from the area, the budget carrier’s hub in Clark will likewise be made a separate center dedicated to the city. The newly-opened routes from Clark is also expected to allow for more visitors, who often travel for the purpose of business and leisure, to take advantage of the latest express sale promo fares of Airphil en route to enjoying resource-rich destinations in Clark and the nearby areas. Airphil has gained patronage among budget-conscious travelers due to its frequent Express Sales, which offers heavily-discounted fares for featured destinations within a certain time period. Airphil Express also offers online booking with seat selection, online check-in, travel insurance and pre-paid additional baggage. While Airphil considers its much-anticipated Express Sale promos as a contributor to growth last year, its top executives prefer to give more credit to its excellent customer service. “We actually offer other intangibles like listening to consumers and satisfying their needs. By taking advantage of emerging trends in social media, such as Twitter and Facebook, we are able to get in touch with our customers, and be responsive to their needs any time of day, any day of the week,” Herrera said. Airphil distinguishes itself from other budget carriers by offering affordable airfare and convenience-driven products and services like the web check-in, seat selector, travel insurance, and pre-paid baggage, as well as travel exclusives of as much as 15 kilos free baggage allowance and an additional seven-kilo free hand carry. Furthermore, the company is known as the first budget airline to address the needs of business and leisure travelers through its round-the-clock customer service presence in social networking websites. One other first in the company’s online service is the “manage booking” feature, which enables Airphil passengers to make flight adjustments such as rescheduling and rerouting of previously booked tickets through www.airphilexpress.com. http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx...ticleId=775913 movingtoPI February 19th, 2012, 11:54 AM my reply to you in the other thread was: check out harrythehorse.com and contact the owner of the site. De Leon Saturday, February 18, 2012 CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- South African Ambassador to the Philippines Agnes Nyamande-Pitso recently said her country is more than willing to help Pampanga in its eco-tourism development plans. This was shared to Sun.Star Pampanga by Board Member Monina Laus, who -- along with provincial tourism officer Arwin Lingat and Capitol department heads -- received the African envoy in an official mission. Laus, who represented Governor Lilia Pineda, said Nyamande-Pitso came to the province with the good news of bringing in a substantial number of tourists from Africa who are interested in helping develop Pampanga’s potential tourist destinations and wide-array of unique festivals. “Ambassador Agnes Nyamande-Pitso professed her intention of taking to our province a big first batch of tourists from her country to look into our tourist sites like the on-going Nabuclod project and the wetland cruise initiated by Governor Pineda. She also shared with us her government’s plan to help us develop and strengthen eco-tourism here,” Laus said. Initially, the lady lawmaker said, Nyamande-Pitso made a round of nearby spots in Bacolor and the City of San Fernando, after having lunch with Capitol officials at King’s Royale. The current Sogo near SM Pampanga is actually within Mexico already. Weird ng Sogo no, it chose to erect branches first sa mga municipalities (Mabalacat and Mexico) na katabi ng cities instead of within the cities (Angeles and San Fernando). monster_crunch February 20th, 2012, 05:36 AM hello treyps! just curious... what would you be visiting here in Angeles/around Angeles? will you being flying directly from Davao to Clark? I am guessing Clark is fast becoming a transit hub for people looking for an alternative route to Manila or Northern Luzon. I also noticed during seat sales na kapag ubos na ang Manila-Cebu or Manila-Davao seats, people end up choosing Clark-Cebu or Clark-Davao. I have no idea how people from the south think of Clark, pero I would imagine that it would make sense for them to fly in to Clark if they are bound for Northern Luzon (and Manila na rin). On tourism, Pampanga has lots of tourist-y spots for sure (Pinatubo, chief among them), but based on my travels across the country, it doesn't have a top spot to go to. Parang, you go to Pampanga not to go sight-seeing but to experience a lifestyle. Iba kasi ang aura kapag nasa Pampanga ka as opposed to, say, beaches in the south. monster_crunch February 20th, 2012, 05:37 AM ooh very much. True, pero I guess on a business perspective, it makes sense for them to sort of try the waters in a place na mas mababa ang investment costs para kung mag-fail ang business, di masyadong lugi. Their branches in Dau and far-flung Mexico probably cost lesser than investments within Angeles or San Fernando. They're lucky with their Dau branch kasi it seems to me that cars get in and out of their building all the time, so business must be doing well. Angeles/Clark to Subic is 30-40 minutes via Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway. Baguio City is five hours away from Dau (bus terminal nearest Clark/Angeles) by bus. I'm assuming Pangasinan is something like 4 hours since dumadaan naman ng Pangasinan ang mga bus papuntang Baguio. Where will you be staying? Culiat February 20th, 2012, 10:54 PM I know. Angeles is more like the place to stay/party after having an adventure in tourist spots found in other places. Pinatubo is more of a Capas thing than a Pampanga thing. but we have tourist spots din naman within the Pampanga territory na di masyado nadedevelop into actual tourist destinations, such as Sapang Bato Valley (Puning Hot Spring) in Angeles and the waterfalls of Porac, Pampanga. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-fGx2wDrdVc/SdZfeSXd-tI/AAAAAAAAEys/xH1TcY12t8c/s400/clark-sapangbato.jpg http://media.dailymile.com/photos/287750/5e248a7834f9ca8d6b68f82878b56454.jpg My Dad used to go trekking to this place (Sapang Bato) since he was in his teens.. he used to be part of a mountaineering club (I don't remember the name) and this is one of their favorite places to go trekking along side climbing Mount Arayat. :) movingtoPI February 21st, 2012, 02:08 AM Go ahead! Ask your questions here! =) alright, but you dont know what you just started :) here is my post from the previous thread that got shut down like a day after i made it: hi everyone im going to be moving to PI later this year and cant decide where i'd like to live i initially was going to go with makati because ive been told that would be the easiest place for a mid 20's white guy from the US to go to, but after seeing that it is like 3 or 4 times more expensive than the rest of the country, and the horrible pollution in the area im starting to look elsewhere i have a philippino friend who suggested that i should go to clark because i would fit in better in that area, i hope she didnt just mean so i could be close to angeles city :), im gonna assume she meant because of the american influence in the city anyways got a few questions, how reliable is the internet in clark/angeles/mabalacat? im going to be playing online poker so reliable internet is of huge concern to me also ive been able to find plenty of listings for apt prices in manilla but have not been able to find as many in these areas, im coming from a 1 bedroom apt with a couple chairs and a mattress on the floor, so i dont need much but am looking for clean and safe area mostly how much would a 1 bedroom in angeles or clark be? and someone else told me about this area "xevera mabalacat" where you can find some nice apts starting at 3500 ($90 us) a month, on here i was linked to some articles about how there was a scam and they ripped off some people, but if im renting that wouldnt really be a concern would it? should internet in that area be ok also? and is flooding really bad there? if im only paying $90 a month for rent and hear that there are gonna be floods coming i could definitely travel down to manilla for a few days and get a hotel to avoid them sorry this was long but any answers/advice is much appreciated edit to add some links for places in xevera, i feel like i must be missing something at these prices..... http://www.sulit.com.ph/index.php/vi...vera+Mabalacat (http://www.sulit.com.ph/index.php/view+classifieds/id/2419449/XEVERA+MABALACAT+TOWNHOUSE++FOR+RENT?referralKeywords=Xevera+Mabalacat) mabalacat.olx.com.ph/xevera-mabalacat-townhouse-for-rent-iid-199265211 http://www.sulit.com.ph/index.php/vi...vera+Mabalacat (http://www.sulit.com.ph/index.php/view+classifieds/id/1342647/House+for+Rent?referralKeywords=Xevera+Mabalacat) one additional question has come up since, would jeepneys be going from mabalacat to angeles/clark at night? and if not roughly how much would a trike ride home be? thanks for any help, still cant decide between makati or other but if mabalacat is that cheap its gonna be hard to pass up sisigman February 21st, 2012, 08:41 AM So I rode a tricycle last night to go home to Villa Angela, and passed by Santo Domingo via Sto. Rosario Street in Angeles. I was surpised that the trip was no longer BUMPY. taking a closer look, inayos na po ang daan sa gawing ito kasi bako-bako na siya. i love the angeles city government under EdPam :) |
