mnemonick May 4th, 2012, 06:08 PM ^^Still International! Asiana operates from Clark as well remember?
Totally forgot about that, but then it would be funny cause the budget terminal will actually be bigger than the International one :lol::lol: , lucky budget carriers, poor Asiana :lol::lol:
from angeles, punta ka sa porac (terminal is near Sandra Mall)
Jalung (pronounced Alung)
pagbaba mo ng tulay, you'll see a forest... pasok ka dun... you'll encounter forkroads, just remember to go left in the first forkroad, then right in the second forkroad. walk til you hear and see the waterfall. it's like a ten to fifteen minute trek.
it's generally a safe place. if you hate frogs, then don't stay there from nightfall to evening, as frogs begin to crowd the trail when the sun's out. i have also encountered a snake before with a frog in its mouth, pero it seemed scared of people so it quickly moved away. i've been in Dara Falls for about fifty times na and i have always come out alive :D
enjoy :)
got it...thanks, looks like i'll be in for some adventure, just wish it wouldn't rain when i finally go there cause these past few days were frequented by thunder-rains

mnemonick May 5th, 2012, 03:37 PM Yan ang wish namin pero kung ako ang tatanungin, medyo malabong mapapayag ang disney, kung population lang ang panlaban ng Pinas, they will rather choose Indonesia, kung Purchasing power naman ng mga lokal, then Malaysia will have it since may Universal Studios na ang Singapore and I don't think Brunei will compromise their sultanate heritage for an amusement park, If they'll consider the tourist arrivals, its Thailand .... so there, of course may hope pa naman pero not in this decade imho...
Well sana parin they would consider our country

DOTC sees $2.5-B revenue from proposed NAIA sale
The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) on Wednesday said it expects the proposed sale of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to raise $2.5 billion, enough to bankroll its possible replacement in Clark, Pampanga.
The proposed transformation of the Clark International Airport as the country’s “premier gateway" will “meet the long-term airport needs of the country and boost the country’s tourism industry," the department said.
The proposed sale of NAIA is patterned after a similar move in Hong Kong “when they sold the old Kai Tak airport in Kowloon, which paid for the newer and expanded Chek Lap Kok airport in Lantau island," explained Transportation Secretary Manuel “Mar" Roxas II in a media roundtable discussion.
But these plans “will not happen overnight, or within one to three years," Roxas noted.
“If the growth is very high, we may keep two airports," he explained, referring to NAIA and the proposed transformation of the Clark airport. “But if the growth is just what’s projected, we may have only Clark and then sell [NAIA] to pay for the transfer."
The DOTC said it is also considering other options, such as the reclamation of land around NAIA, “but even this appears unreasonable with only Talim island in Rizal and Laguna as an alternative big area." This makes the “less expensive" Clark airport a “better" option, the agency said.
“The implementation of the North Rail Project will make Clark an attractive site," the DOTC said. “The North Rail will serve as an airport link by connecting the Caloocan line to the central business district in Makati, and Mabalacat in Pampanga as the end-station."
Roxas explained that making Clark airport the country’s international gateway “will solve aircraft congestion in NAIA and transform Mabalacat as the next Makati north of Manila."

When Mar/Boking claim this "Next Makati North of Manila" thing, I keep on thinking they're referring specifically to Clark, not really the Mabalacat governed by Boking.
If Clark = Next Makati North of Manila, the best thing Mabalacat will become eventually is "Next Pasay North of Manila."
Pasay today brands itself as "Travel City." Isn't this more suitable to the fate of Mabalacat? It has a bustling bus terminal, an international airport within its territory, expressway exits and interchanges left and right. So yeah, it's the future Travel City.

Makati Highrises should be built nowhere in Mabalacat if Clark Airport is being groomed to be the country's premiere airport so yeah, 1 NAIA is enough, Pasay would be more accurate and logical benchmark

Pidjüng May 6th, 2012, 11:20 PM BACOLOR—Delegates of the recently concluded Asian Development Bank 45th Annual Meeting toured Central Luzon including the historical San Guillermo Parish Church here, furniture shops in Guagua, Pampanga, Clark Freeport and Subic Bay Freeport.
At least Ronnie Tiotuico, Tourism region 3 director, guided at least 22 ADB officials, their spouses and employees to the church built by Augustinian Friars in 1567, who were welcomed by Parish Priest Father Jess Manabat and Bacolor Vice Mayor Ananias Canlas Jr.
The group viewed the devastation caused lahar from Pinatubo’s eruption 16 years ago and the determined recovery of the townsfolk.
“Help us spread the good news… that Bacolor is alive,” he told the visitors, pointing to the belfry.
It’s great, the bells are still in good shape,” said Lyrme Gordevich of Australia.
“This is an example of how natures took its course and the long journey to recovery,” said David Parker, an official of ADB from Australia, while taking a closer look of lahar and sands.
ADB’s meeting in Manila held last May 2 to 5 gathered a record number of more than 5,000 registered delegates including finance ministers and other key policymakers, business leaders, and academics. Civil society representatives and the media also attended in the proceedings.
“It’s amazing,” said ADB Nepal delegate Indira Thapa, noting Bacolor’s progress.
The group hopped over to the residence of sculptor Willie Layug then to Betis Craft, the home of elegant furniture crafted by heritage artists devoted to preserving the town’s traditions and way of life.

A small explanation of what Apag Marangle means. In Kapampangan, “Apag” literally means something like “handaan” or a “setting in which food is laid out.” Meanwhile Marangle is “field” or “bukid.” A sign nearby very subtly has a notation “Hain sa Bukid.”

Quoting SM Prime's Annual Report
released April 24, 2012:
Next in line would be SM City San Fernando in Pampanga.
A unique feature of this shopping mall will be its distinctive
exterior design, which complies with the architectural theme of a
heritage area, as mandated by the San Fernando local government.
SM City San Fernando is SM Primes third mall in the province,
after SM City Pampanga and SM City Clark, which were opened in
November 2000 and May 2006, respectively.
SM City San Fernando answers the need for another SM Mall
in Pampanga, as the province has clearly progressed through the
years, benefiting from its established agricultural economy and
its now thriving tourism industry that is highlighted by its popular
local cuisine.
The seven-storey SM City San Fernando, which is located
in Pampangas business-friendly and highly developed capital,
features an SM Depar tment Store and an SM Supermarket as
anchor tenants. It will provide, for the added convenience of mall-
goers, a three-level parking building that directly connects to the
shopping mall. Three cinemas will be par t of the major attractions
of SM City San Fernandos indoor enter tainment area. The malls
eye-catching main entrance will usher in shoppers to a wide variety
of shops.

Tama ang description ko last december that was the last time i saw the actual construction of SM sabi ko sa Pampanga thread "SM SF is one of the beautiful exterior facade of SM Prime that ever made"
But im not aggree theme siya sa mga old houses/bldg na nakapalibot hindi siyj heritage like art deco or neo classical ang bldg ng SM. for me it looks very modern ang design glassy siya kaya i wonder kung pano naging heritage.
Well, that is my impression, tignan nalang natin ang finish product i hope heritage nga siya pag natapos. im excited na for the opening maybe in june or july open na malapit na natin makita ang masterpiece kung heritage nga ba sumunod sa kagustuhan ng madla at heritage society.

sisigman May 7th, 2012, 08:21 AM Mr Sisigman, if I may, can I use these photos for the Mabalacat FB page im currently constructing. I just found out that while Angeles and San Fernando got one, all Mabalacat have is a corruption page :lol::lol:
I'll credit you :D (any of these will look awesome for cover photo btw)

So am I...I'm already excited with the opening of SM Palengke . How I wish they will really follow the heritage ambiance of San Fernando and it would also be nice if they will put some medium size trees on plant boxes on the rooftop parking and even at the front of the mall like in v tiomico and consuji streets. I never like malls with no structures or plants on their exterior area. So far, my favorite Pampanga mall in terms of green and cozy environment is Marquee Mall.

I don't think I will make it as an Official Fb or something, I'll tag it as Non Government Community page. Mabalacat, like any other Municipality/City does have a government website, but unlike Angeles and San Fernando, its not updated, i think the last update was last early 2011  , same with its Wikipedia which is a shame cause I don't edit such sites...

You can make panoramic shots also via this Panorama application for iPhone and iPod and maybe Android too. It's cool. I was gonna take a pano shot of our neighbourhood a few minutes ago but it started raining...

monster_crunch May 7th, 2012, 09:01 AM Clark too far for locals, tourists–Delta Air exec (http://businessmirror.com.ph/home/economy/26794-clark-too-far-for-locals-touristsdelta-air-exec)
AN OFFICIAL of Delta Air Lines Inc. urged the Philippine government to rethink its plans to transfer the country’s premier international gateway from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) in Parañaque, to the Clark International Airport in Pampanga.
Steven Crowdey, Delta’s general manager for Australia, Micronesia and the Philippines, also told a gathering of tourism industry stakeholders on Thursday, that “I disagree that Naia is the ‘worst airport in the world’. There are others [which are] worst.”
While he didn’t identify those other airports, his pronouncement was met with cheers from the representatives of various tourism sectors who had gathered for the unveiling of the National Tourism Development Plan, by the Department of Tourism at the SMX Convention Hall.
His statement was in reaction to a travel blog’s tag in October on the Naia as the “worst airport in the world,” and to CNNGo’s ranking of the facility as fifth among the “world’s most hated airports” in November.
The DOT forum, dubbed “Tomorrow’s Tourism: Harnessing the Growth Potentials of the Tourism Sector,” was held in conjunction with the 45th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank held in Manila from May 2 to 5.
“Clark is a very long way from Manila proper,” said Crowdey, in an interview with the BusinessMirror, after the forum. “It’s farther than Hong Kong is from the Hong Kong [International] Airport. It’s much farther than Narita [International Airport] from Tokyo.”
Besides, he added, foreign tourists don’t use public transportation in Manila like they do in Hong Kong or Tokyo.
“So I think there are massive challenges in trying to get people from Clark down to the city proper.”

Hahaha. Thing is, it takes a longer time for one to get from Quezon City to Pasay City, than from Quezon City/Manila to Clark.
I should know. I've traveled to Pasay several times and missed my flights several times because of the horrible traffic in NCR. Dau to Quezon City is like an hour and a half, but the short distance between Quezon City to Pasay City is almost an hour and a half to two hours!
Crowdey I think only bases the "distance" on the actual kilometers between places. He failed to take into account traffic delays.
plus, "Clark too far from locals"? Which locals? This guy is suffering from Manila-centrism.

Basing from all the development posts here in sscp, truly I can say that Pampangueños where not far behind from our Tagalog bros from the calabarzon region.
I can see the centre of progress in Angeles, Mabalacat, Mexico, San Fernando and Clark Economic Zone. Hopefully in the near future I can see few modern day towers of Babel as high as the skyscrapers of NCR.

I believe the future generation will be thankful for us that we saved this from the madness of DPWH. Can't imagine they wanted to chop all these trees off for the sake of widening the road for heavy traffic that doesn't even exist (for that particular area).

Just saw this from DEPARTMENT ORDER No. 23-08, July 29, 2008 (http://www.nscb.gov.ph/activestats/psgc/articles/DepOrderReclass.pdf)
** City Income classification **
Cities are classified according to average annual income based on the previous 3 calendar years. Effective July 28, 2008 the thresholds for the income classes for cities are:[4]
Class Average annual income
First - PHP 400 million or more
Second - PHP 320 million or more but less than PHP 400 million
Third - PHP 240 million or more but less than PHP 320 million
Fourth - PHP 160 million or more but less than PHP 240 million
Fifth - PHP 80 million or more but less than PHP 160 million
Sixth - below PHP 80 million

instead of widening of road

Pidjüng May 8th, 2012, 11:24 PM CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The City Government of San Fernando recently sent a delegation to Lanao del Sur to lay wreaths in commemoration of the 70th death anniversary of martyr Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos.
City Administrator Ferdinand Caylao told Sun.Star Pampanga Tuesday that the contingent was led by Lanao Muslim Traders Association president Macaslang Bitiarra and the city’s Muslim coordinator Kaiser Manguranda.

“Though Congress acknowledges May 7 as the day of our Kapampangan hero’s death, research shows it’s May 2. Nonetheless, the city sent a delegation to Malabang, Lanao Del Sur to commemorate the death anniversary of Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos,” Caylao said.
It was the same group, along with Caylao and other Muslims in the area, who helped track down and identify the exact assassination place of Abad Santos under Japanese captors during World War II, when the Kapampangan hero refused to give in to the wishes of the invaders.
The agreement to put up a monument and marker for Abad Santos was forged with the Philippine Army and local officials in Malabang for the construction of a monument upon the insistence of Mayor Oscar Rodriguez. (Jovi T. De Leon)

GUAGUA, Pampanga -- Willy Layug, Presidential Merit Awardee for Ecclesiastical Art, is set to donate and install a Filipiniana altar dedicated to Filipino St. Lorenzo Ruiz and Blessed Pedro Calungsod at the prestigious Pontificio Collegio Filippino in Rome, Italy.
Layug will be the first Kapampangan to install his work at the Pontificio Collegio Filippino, sharing the same stage with classical masters whose works adorn major churches and shrines in Roman Catholic churches a few blocks away.

PAMPANGA. Sculptor Willy Layug shows his design of the altar dedicated to San Lorenzo Luiz and Blessed Pedro Calungsod which he will install in Rome. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
“The altar will be 10 feet by 10 feet and would be dominated by sawali and bamboo designs to show the unique Filipino character of the altar. Though we are greatly influenced by European wood carving designs, the altar would still show the Filipino wood carving character,” Layug said.
Layug said he presented the design of the altar to the current rector of Pontificio Collegio Filippino, Rev. Father Gregory Ramon Gaston. The altar will depict the martyrdom of St. Lorenzo Ruiz and Blessed Pedro Calungsod.
Pontificio Collegio Filippino is the college of Filipino diocesan priests studying at pontifical universities in Rome. It was formally established as an institution with pontifical rights by Pope Blessed John XXIII on June 29, 1961 through the Papal Bull Sancta Mater Ecclesia.
Also known as Pontificio Collegio Seminario Filippino, the college is officially named by the papal bull as Pontificio Collegio Seminario de Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje.
The seat of the institution is located at 490 Via Aurelia in the suburb of Rome where a four-storey structure designed by Edoardo Cherubini and done in the contemporary architectural design of the 1960s stands on a 238,933.44-square-meter property between the Collegio Pio Brasiliano and the Villa Pacelli.
Cardinal Rufino Jiao Santos proposed establishing the college during the meeting of the Catholic Hierarchy of the Philippines on January 26–31 1959. His plan was supported by the Philippine ecclesiastical hierarchy and approved by the Vatican.
Pope John XXIII inaugurated the modern edifice on October 7, 1961 at the Feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary. As of the year 2001, Pontificio Collegio Filippino has been a home to 522 seminarians and priests, 38 of who have become bishops.
Layug said the altar will add to the unique history of the place. Works on the said altar are now ongoing at Layug’s shop here.

mnemonick May 9th, 2012, 11:42 AM CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, May 8 (PIA) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Friday reported that the on-going rehabilitation of the Tarlac segment of the Manila North Road, more popularly known as the McArthur Highway, is more than 90 percent complete.
DPWH Traffic Engineering and Management-Project Management Office (TEAM-PMO) project director Remedios Belleza disclosed that the P86-million project, which was awarded to the Northern Builders and commenced November of 2011, is on-track to be finished come July this year.
“A total of nine intersections in this segment of the Manila North Road are undergoing improvement wherein seven will be provided with traffic signals,” said Belleza.
The traffic signal design will be fully-actuated with vehicle and pedestrian sensors capable of adjusting green time in accordance with the real traffic demand.
DPWH has also adopted the use of eco-friendly and energy-efficient LED (Light Emitting Diode)-based traffic signal lanterns in the traffic signalization project for McArthur Highway.
Belleza likewise said, “The contract also includes geometric improvement works at intersections, supply and installation of road signs and pavement markings, maintenance work for newly-installed traffic signal equipment/flasher, and provision of spare parts and consumables.”
In a press statement, DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson explained, “The ongoing road improvement and traffic management measures is meant to reduce travel time and increase travel speed to the toll-free heritage thoroughfare which links Metro Manila to the picturesque locations in Northern and Central Luzon.”
Upgrading of the historic McArthur Highway began last year with traffic signalization and ancillary works at 14 intersections of the Meycauayan, (Bulacan)-Mabalacat (Pampanga) segment. (WLB/CLJD-PIA3)

mnemonick May 9th, 2012, 05:29 PM MASANTOL, Pampanga, May 9 (PIA) -- A multi-purpose building/evacuation center worth P8 million is being constructed in Barangay San Nicolas.
The construction is being funded by the El Circulo Masantolenos in the United States, the National Housing Authority and the Masantol local government.
It will serve as an evacuation center for families from the coastal villages of Bebe Anac, Sto. Nino, Sta. Lucia, Sta. Lucia Matua and Paguiba who are affected by prolonged flooding in their areas.
When not in use by those who will be relocated, sports competitions may also be held in the building.
The building will also accommodate the offices of the senior citizens organization, the youth group and other civic entities.
Masantol mayor Peter Flores annually allots a substantial portion of the budget for physical infrastructure projects and the renovation of existing ones. This is to answer the prospective needs of the town.

I haven't been to Masantol and based on this, I assume that the flooding takes place there because they are coastal towns. Is it impossible to do a long term solution? They can just build barriers such as sea walls, cause an evacuation center, although useful especially now that summer is over, seems like they're resigned to the idea that they're going to be submerged every rainy season

haha anjan ako pre on its grand opening last year!
si Sam Pinto nagribbon cutting.. grabecious ang dami tao siksikan pati un mcArthur Hiway puno parang may people power lng ilan oras din sinara un hiway traffic:-)
Actually di lang ordinary savemore yan 3level mall talaga yan dami tenant jan nasa 50 tenants siguro my sun shop, national bookstore, toms world, slice n dice, my phone, slice n dice, watsons, handyman etc. etc.
tabi lng ng palengke yan.
dati un bldg na yan my mcdo dati jan hndi ngclick nagsara then binili ng SM PRIME ginawa savemore + mall. i think this is the 1st savemore na mall. :-)
Karisma May 9th, 2012, 06:32 PM katunayan full pledge mall like SM Center dapat yan nsa press release before ng SM Prime. then nang patapos na bigla na lang nging Savemore i dont know the reason..
fourt district at second district my coastal mejo nabawasan un mga iba nalahar un kailugan..
Dito din puro lahar na yung mga Ilog, :( ...... di ko man maalala how the stream flows kasi bata pa ko nun, im trying to research old photos of Sacobia River on Mabalacat but wala ako makita, anyway wala talaga akong idea sa ibang district ng Pampanga  , yan siguro first assignment ko pagbalik ko dito, ang libutin yan...and oh, pm'd you already :)
sa fatherside ko from .Guagua i remember nun bata ako my "Libad" yan ay yun prusisyon sa ilog pag my fiesta ngayon wala na as in nalahar talaga.
mnemonick May 9th, 2012, 09:05 PM ahahaha insomiac ako most of the time, tulog sa araw except pag may gagawin, pero home based lang kasi ang work ko ngayun lols, kaya laging natutulog pag hapon....
mnemonick May 9th, 2012, 09:52 PM Anyway i don't think I will pursue the Mabalacat FB Page thing, at least not now, na realize ko kasi na puro sa ibang tao ang gagamitin kong mga pics and i'm not very comfortable with that, and I guess neither would they even if I credit them....i'll just continue it once I got my DSLR back, iniwan ko kasi sa kapatid ko sa SG....so more or less, next year ko pa matutuloy ang project na to pag bumalik ako ulit and hopefully, pag naging city na ang Mabalacat e, gumanda na ang mga infrastructure doon para worth it naman ang pag photo walk ko pag nagkataon :lol::lol:
I'm from the small town of Pampanga which is Sto Tomas, tabi lang sa border ng San Nicolas CSF and Moraz dela Paz, Sto Tomas, kaya dyan ako tambay sa CSF kase lapit lang sa min.

MANILA, Philippines - It's peaceful in this side of Pampanga.
Chief Inspector David Arcega reported that the San Luis town police station has not recorded even a petty crime for the past two years.
Arcega said that there are no carnaping, shooting, riding in tandem incidents and other street crimes recorded by the local police station.
The police official boasted that the town has been peaceful because of the continuous dialogues and coordination by the police station with barangay officials.
"We have close coordination with the barangay leaders here. If there are any suspicious happenings in their respective areas, they immediately inform us," Arcega said.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, May 9 (PIA) -- The new and improved website of San Fernando City in Pamapanga has prompted the municipality of Libmanan in Camarines Sur to hold its travel study in the city.
Libmanan Mayor Marilyn Jimenez said, “The city’s updated and easy access website has greatly influenced us to do our Lakbay-Aral (travel study) here making it our top choice destination.”
“My employees have accessed the website and have seen the good news, informative articles and features that the city offered that is why we have agreed to visit here and have a firsthand experience of what this city has to give,” she explained.
The website www.cityofsanfernando.gov.ph (http://www.cityofsanfernando.gov.ph) was recently redesigned to make it more attractive and appealing to the public.
It now features news articles, tourism-related posts, various information about the governance in the city and virtual tour which enables a viewer to browse different places in this city.

Ang mabilis na information ngayon ay via online to let the public know what's going on in their town.
TheJMP617 May 10th, 2012, 01:27 PM DPWH to crack down on road, sidewalk obstructions
10 May 2012
With pedestrians reportedly accounting for more than half of the victims or fatalities in recorded road accidents, the Department of Public Works and Highways will now strictly enforce the removal of obstructions and prohibited uses within the right-of-way of national roads.
"We have to recover the road right-of-way for the safety of pedestrians and the general public," said DPWH secretary Rogelio Singson. "With the road shoulders or sidewalks full of illegal encroachments, pedestrians have no option but to walk on the road pavements."
Singson also ordered DPWH field officials to promptly submit their reports on all illegal structures and obstructions along the sidewalks and shoulders of national roads on or before June 15. They will then submit a status report on the removal of illegal structures and obstructions on or before July 3. And then the report will be submitted at the end of the succeeding months.

epik ll ian May 10th, 2012, 05:42 PM What is APAG MARANGLE?
A small explanation of what Apag Marangle means. In Kapampangan, “Apag” literally means something like “handaan” or a “setting in which food is laid out.” Meanwhile Marangle is “field” or “bukid.” A sign nearby very subtly has a notation “Hain sa Bukid.”

In a way, you might say the seven-week wait was worth it, because the Pampanga food of Chef Sau Del Rosario of Villa Cafe in Pampanga was just wonderful. I ate so much and enjoyed every morsel on all of my plates -- I think I got around four plates of food.

The PCG has even encouraged fishermen near the Panatag Shoal to assert the country's sovereignty by fishing in the lagoon.
"We are asking the Filipino fishermen from Bataan, Zambales and Pampanga to fish in the area. The Bajo de Masinloc is our own so do not be afraid, we have a PCG vessel there," Tan said.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- A book on childhood memories and experiences on Kapampangan culture is now seen to help the Department of Education (DepEd) Order 74, which requires schools to offer a Kapampangan subject and use the dialect as medium of instruction in all subjects except Filipino and English.
This is mandated from kindergarten to grade three.
The book “Iniang Malati Ku,” written by Jose Irwin Nucum and published through the help of the Center for Kapampangan Studies, Municipal Government of Sto. Tomas and the City Government of San Fernando, features childhood memoirs on Kapampangan traditions and culture.
The book is entirely written in Kapampangan and is set to be launched on May 25.

PAMPANGA. San Fernando Archbishop Paciano Aniceto endorses the book “Iniang Malati Ku” by Irwin Nucum (left) for use in Kapampangan language instruction at elementary schools. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
“Due to the contemporary orthography used, the appeal of our native games, commonality of our experiences as Kapampangan race and the 240 entertaining caricatures, ‘Iniang Malati Ku’ can serve as a resource material for children especially those from Kindergarten to Grade 3,” Nucum told Sun.Star Pampanga.
He added that the book will undoubtedly be a positive step in promoting Kapampangan language and culture.
“My own stories would most probably be the tales of each cabalen, too. Because of the book, some parents have been telling me that their children have started asking on how to play the different games we ourselves tried then,” Nucum said.
Nucum also said the book will be endorsed before the Provincial Board by the Center for Kapampangan Studies.
He hoped it will be provided and distributed at government’s expense to all the public elementary schools and libraries of each barangay in Pampanga.
The Kapampangan Pride (an association of Kapampangans worldwide) and the OKMUSICA, a group of original Kapampangan artists in various fields, have already signified to issue same endorsement letters to the Provincial Board.
Center for Kapampangan Studies executive director Robert Tantingco is positive about the new book project.
“Most important of all, these recollections carry values without sounding pedantic. This is what makes Nucum’s book an excellent instructional material, especially in light of DepEd Order 74,” Tantingco said.
Tantingco said the range of human experiences that the book covers is astounding — from birth to death, from the innocence of childhood to the wisdom of old folks, from folk to pop culture, from Beatles to Voltes V — which makes one envy Nucum for living such a charmed life.
Nucum is a native of Sto. Tomas, Pampanga. He finished his Bachelor of Arts Major in Philosophy at the Mother of Good Counsel Seminary where he received cum laude honors.
He is an Outstanding Fernandino Awardee and works as corporate communications officer in the City of San Fernando.

CLARK FREEPORT --- The Nayong Pilipino Clark Expo has scheduled Santa Cruz de Mayo here on May 13 and 27.
“May-time’s most colorful religious-historical pageant Santacruzan will unreel in all its spectacle, color and gaiety when Nayong Pilipino stages ‘Santa Cruz de Mayo’ for two Sundays (May 13 and 27),” said Nayong Pilipino director Apolonio Anota.
The first series will be held on Sunday, May 13, starting at 4 p.m. at the Nayong Pilipino sa Clark Expo grounds.
This is in line with Nayong Pilipino Foundation’s aim of perpetuating Filipino socio-cultural festivities while at the same time boosting Philippine tourism.
Maria Bernice Millan from St. John Integrated School and Anjenette Bade from Holy Angel University will top the line-up of the Sagala for this year as Reina Elena and Emperatriz, respectively.
The Nayong Pilipino Rondalla will provide the musical accompaniment, along with the Band Duat of Mexico town.
The Santacruzan is the finding of the True Cross of Jesus by an expedition financed by Empress Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine the Great, the emperor of both the Eastern and Western Roman Empires. Jesus Christ was crucified in 33 AD on Mount Calvary.
In a rush to bury Him, the crosses of Jesus and of the two thieves who were crucified with Him were thrown into a nearby cistern.
The crosses were forgotten for 300 years, until Bishop Makarios of Jerusalem dreamed that he will find the True Cross if he will excavate the old cistern. The bishop appealed to Empress Helena to finance the excavation, with the latter providing for the expenses.
The True Cross was found miraculously intact, surviving for 300 years without decomposition. The Cross was borne into procession. This event, done in around 326 AD, became the start of the Santacruzan tradition.
Ngayong Pilipino Foundation is inviting everyone to come and visit Nayong Pilipino sa Clark Expo, and witness this spectacular events. (Reynaldo G. Navales)

mnemonick May 11th, 2012, 06:18 PM State-run Clark Development Corp. (CDC) said two new companies–one engaged in lighting, the other an online tutorial service–have decided to invest in Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.
CDC chairman and officer in charge Eduardo Oban Jr. said on Friday that Clark Development signed lease agreements with Venzon Manufacturing Corp. and NClub Inc.
Oban said Venzon Manufacturing will invest P254 million to establish a manufacturing facility for decorative lighting. The company will export its products and likewise distribute these to the local market. He said the company would employ up to 400 workers.
NClub Inc., a Korean company specializing in Internet and English tutorial services, will provide “fast and reliable” Internet services. The company will also operate an English Call Center that will offer English tutorial to Koreans through Voice over Internet Protocol.
Oban said NClub will invest $111,052 during its first year of operations and would employ some 60 workers.
Meanwhile, the state agency said the semiconductor and electronics sector had the most number of export volume in Clark Freeport in the first two months of the year, growing to over $594.2 million from $244.3 million a year earlier.
South Korea’s Phoenix Semiconductor Philippines Corp. held the No. 1 position in January with an export volume of more than $102.1 million. Phoenix is one of the biggest locators inside the free port with committed investments of more than $1 billion.
Japanese firm Nanox Philippines Inc. came second in January with more than $72.9 million in export volume.
But Nanox topped in exports volume in February with more than $118 million. Phoenix fell to No. 2 in the same month with $96 million.

sisigman May 12th, 2012, 04:37 AM FINALLY, this has been addressed! Angeles City indeed suffers from noise pollution.
-----------
City dad seeks to penalize vehicles with noisy mufflers
ANGELES CITY – Councilor Edu Pamintuan recently filed an ordinance that would penalize motorists using vehicles generating excessive noise that is a result of modifying their respective vehicles.
The ordinance shall be known as the “Anti-Muffler Modification Ordinance” which prohibits all vehicles using, noisy, modified mufflers from traveling through primary, secondary and barangay roads within the city.
According to Pamintuan, the said measure is primarily aimed at reducing noise pollution on streets.
“The noise level of the city increases due to heavy traffic and powerful engines and such noise is further aggravated with the mufflers in question which can be heard from a kilometer away,” the councilor said.
He explained that the said ordinance states that no motor vehicle, whether private or public utility vehicle, with attached modified muffler, sound booster or any other device that would increase the noise generated by the vehicle would be allowed in the city.
“The noise produced by these vehicles not only lowers the quality of life and work of the majority of people, but also can result in permanent hearing loss for vehicle operators and people nearby; this includes unborn children as noise can penetrate the womb,” Pamintuan said.
The councilor added that apart from the serious health problems, the modified mufflers can be highly distracting in traffic and can cause accidents since they are capable of masking sounds. This can affect the drivers’ reaction time and judgment.
Penalties for violating the ordinance are fines of P500 for the first offense, P800 for the second offense, and P1,500 for the third offense.
The ordinance also calls for the impounding of the offending vehicle, to be released only after the payment of the corresponding fine and the removal of the gadget that increases noise.
With each offense, the violator will be given a maximum period of 3 days to restore, repair and replace its original muffler.
The Motorized Trycycle Operator’s Permit (MTOP) for public motor vehicles and utility jeeps shall be cancelled, pending the restoration of its original muffler.
With each offense, the violator will be given a maximum period of three days to restore, repair and replace its original muffler.
Once the ordinance is approved, the Philippine National Police, the local chief executive and a duly deputized non-government organization shall uphold the task of implementing and enforcing the local anti-muffler modification law.

mnemonick May 13th, 2012, 06:28 PM PORAC -- The Municipal Government of Porac is set to install solar-powered lamp posts in main thoroughfares of strategic barangays here.
This was disclosed by Councilors Ludi Muli and Gilbert Santos, majority floor leader and chairman of the committee on appropriations of the Municipal Coucil, respectively, during a meeting with the town’s barangay captains over the weekend.
Muli said the energy-saving lampposts will be installed in main avenues and roads from Barangay Sta. Cruz all the way up to Barangay Manibaug.
“These lampposts will be installed in strategic barangays with vital thoroughfares. Not only will we be using green energy on these that protects the environment but will also help our barangays save on electricity. We will start installing them soonest at Barangay Sta. Cruz then onwards to Manibaug,” he said.
Santos, for his part, told Sun.Star Pampanga that the Municipal Government has sufficient funds, although he did not disclose exactly how much would be spent for the solar-powered lampposts.
“It will actually be a one-time expense and investment. There would be huge savings for barangays in return since the solar-powered lampposts are almost maintenance-free, except for the bulbs and the batteries which have a shelf life of five years, more or less. This will be one of our legacies to Poraqueños when we leave the halls of the Sangguniang Bayan (Municipal Council),” he said.

mnemonick May 14th, 2012, 06:02 AM MABALACAT -- Mabalacat Water District (MWD) general manager Francis Dimaliwat has cited the P200-million septage management program (SMP) of the water facility.
Dimaliwat said the project will be funded under a financial loan from the Development Bank of Philippines.
The construction of the project is expected to start next year and be fully operational by 2014, according to Dimaliwat.
Under the SMP, the MWD will collect waste water from households monthly and will be transferred in a staging area and water treatment facility.
A minimal fee will be collected from the MWD consumers, with water connections, for the collection of waste water, the MWD head said.
The Municipal Government has identified a property in Barangay Mangalit where the SMP building and water treatment facility will be constructed.

mnemonick May 14th, 2012, 02:45 PM ALI wants more Metro land
AYALA Land Inc. (ALI) is beefing up its land bank, especially in new geographical areas, to capitalize on strong demand for real estate.
Jaime Ysmael, ALI chief finance officer, told reporters the company is completing the acquisition of the “entire” 60-hectare “Plastic City” estate in Valenzuela City “as soon as possible.”
Negotiations on the actual structure of the agreement between ALI and the Gatchalian group are still ongoing, but it may “probably be a joint venture,” Ysmael said.
“There’s a lot of spending power in that area and the Ayala brand has been absent in that area,” he said.
Ysmael refused to comment on the talks with IRC Properties Inc., which owns a 2,170-hectare land in Binangonan, Rizal, but expressed interest in expanding in the eastern part of Metro Manila.
“There’s a very high concentration of people in that area that can afford some of our brands. We want to have presence in that side of the metropolis,” said Ysmael.
The real-estate firm may also consider expanding in Clark, taking advantage of the infrastructure projects at or near those areas.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Multi-festivities anchored on the promotion of local culture summatizes “Pyestang Fernandino 2012” that officially began Sunday, May 13, here.
“On the occasion of the feast of St. Ferdinand, our city’s patron saint, we celebrate our rich culture, highlight our best talents, and showcase our unique bond as a people,” Mayor Oscar S. Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez called the theme for this year’s festivities – “Pyestang Fernandino, Dalerayan Ning Kulturang Pasulungan (Channel for the promotion of culture) – as “a reaffirmation of every citizen’s role in contributing to the progress of the community while promoting Kapampangan heritage.”
Among the cultural activities slated are exhibit and launching of the book “Iniang Malati Ku” authored by Irwin Nucum, Little Miss Fernandino and a cultural show on May 25; Burarul (kite) festival, Flores de Mayo and Banda Keni, Banda Keta music fest on May 26; Ms. Gay Festival Queen on May 27; Serenata and Fernandino Got Talent on May 28; and the Lakan at Mutya ning San Fernando on May 29.
The celebrations opened on May 13 at the SM City Pampanga with an Off Road Challenge 4X4 competition. Other sports activities slated are Pyesta Fun Run on May 20; OCA Cycling Tour Caravan and Mr. San Fernando Body Builder on May 26; Tillbury race on May 27.
The festivities end with the inter-barangay basketball championship and the Pampanga’s Ultimate Champion competition cum variety show and raffle on May 30.
This year’s fiesta celebration is distinct from past celebrations with the active participation of various manufacturing companies in an Agro-Industrial Fair which, Rodriguez said, “is an opportunity for the Fernandinos to market their products such as furniture, handicrafts and processed foods.”

Powered paragliding is no different from the typical paraglide activity except for a paramotor suited at the pilot’s back. Unlike paragliding, paramotoring involves a series of procedures starting with the set up of the wing. This is followed by ground handling and towing where the pilot gets airlifted a few feet above the ground to test the wind condition.
You will never run out of fun things to do when you are in Pampanga.

The Candaba Wetland and Bird Sanctuary (swamp in plainspeak but wetland is more current and somehow politically correct) is a 32,000-ha. seasonally flooded grassland stretching in an area bounded by Candaba in Pampanga, and San Miguel, San Ildefonso, and Baliuag towns in Bulacan north of Manila. The floodplain (cropped in rice, watermelon, etc. during the summer) that can be observed from the Candaba Viaduct section of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) is only a small portion. It is the catch basin of the vast Central Plain of Luzon. In the 1980s, according to Birdlife International, as many as 100,000 ducks could be observed in a single day. – marnekilates.tumblr.com Read more… (http://www.traveltothephilippines.info/see-the-candaba-bird-sanctuary-in-pampanga/)
Plan a side trip to Pampanga when you travel to the Philippines (http://www.traveltothephilippines.info/2011/09/20/other-tourist-spots-in-pampanga/), especially starting the latter part of the Christmas season. You can view the magnificent giant lanterns in December, and probably catch the migratory birds in Candaba in January.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said that she will discuss the proposal with the Mactan Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) where she sits as one of the board members.
During their luncheon meeting last May 13, Mabalacat Mayor Marino Morales said that an agreement between the MCIA and Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) in Clark, Pampanga can “open up vast opportunities in terms of trade and tourism” for both provinces.
Morales added that any undertaking that will turn international airports into premier airports is supported by Philippine President Benigno Aquino III.
Routing some flights to the MCIA and DMIA can help decongest air traffic at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
“We should be the alternative airports. Papuntahin na natin sa DMIA at MCIA ang mga turista para hindi na ma-dedelay ang mga flights sa NAIA,” Garcia said.
The Cebu Provincial Government is set to pursue a sisterhood pact with the Province of Pampanga for their mutual benefit in terms of tourism and economic advancement. The two provinces lie at the center of Luzon and Visayas, respectively.
“We will be the key to achieve unity and oneness of direction so that together we can finally push this country to the level that our labors have reached and hopefully we will be the rising star of Asia and the Pacific,” Garcia said.-Adrian J. Sollano

mnemonick May 17th, 2012, 05:41 AM Best Western International (BWI) has announced plans to launch its first hotel in the booming Philippine city of Angeles.
A Best Western Premier is expected to open its doors in 2014, will be a brand new luxury hotel offering a range of high-end facilities to the rapidly increasing number of domestic and international travelers visiting this thriving city.
As a Best Western Premier hotel – the most luxurious of Best Western’s three unique products – the new Casa Verde will feature luxury amenities, delivered with style and personalized service. The hotel’s 78 rooms will all offer LCD flat screen televisions, complimentary wireless internet access and luxury products, while hotel facilities will include an international all-day dining restaurant and a swimming pool.
Located in Central Luzon, close to Manila, Angeles is served by Clark’s Diosdado Macapagal International Airport – home to the Philippines’ largest airline, Cebu Pacific, and brand new low-cost carrier AirAsia Philippines. SEAIR also connects Clark to a range of international destinations, including Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong.
The airport is also on the cusp of a major expansion plan, which is projected to see it handle enormous number of passengers per year.
Such growth will lead to a huge increase in demand for hotel rooms in Angeles, and the Casa Verde will be joining the Best Western Premier hotel collection, the first stage in Best Western’s plan to satisfy the demand.
“The potential for Angeles as a tourism destination is enormous,” said Glenn de Souza, Best Western International’s Vice President International Operations – Asia & the Middle East. “The infrastructure developments being planned for the city, and nearby Clark airport, are truly staggering, even by the standards of 21st Century Asia”.
“The recent arrival of AirAsia Philippines, as well as the presence of Cebu Pacific, SEAIR, AirPhil Express and international carriers such as Jin Air and Dragonair, is testament to the growth of the country. In the years to come, Angeles will become an increasingly important regional hub for business, industry, aviation and tourism, and we are delighted to be at the forefront of this development,” Mr. de Souza added.
Best Western currently operates six hotels in the Philippines – five in Manila and one in Boracay – offering a total of 610 rooms. Also, a 80-room hotel is under development in Cebu.

William Jans Photo
In the Philippines, he travelled to Palawan, south Luzon, and the rice terraces of Banaue. He timed his visit to San Fernando, in Pampanga (about two hours north of Manila), for Good Friday to coincide with the San Pedro Cutud Lenten ritual. “It’s basically Christian volunteers choosing to get nailed to the cross to atone for their sins,” he explained. “It’s about people who want to show their devotion and atone for sins.”
Jans was intrigued by the ritual but didn’t quite know what to expect. He thought the atmosphere might be foreboding, or threatening, as “they really do nail them through the feet.” But he was surprised at the jovial festival atmosphere. “It was so not exactly what I expected,” he recalled. “It’s all very fun and positive.…It’s a family-fun festival: you can buy SpongeBob SquarePants balloons and eat Popsicles while watching people get crucified. There’s kids everywhere and it’s really fun.” While the resulting photos are not for the squeamish, the story behind them is fascinating.

“I am surprised that the director of the EMB would call it a controlled dump,” ani David sa mga lumahok sa dalawang araw na regional summit workshop for the academe and the environment na isinagawa sa Barasoain Center for Innovative Education (BarCIE) sa La Consolacion University –Philippines sa lungsod na ito.
“It is still an open dump, iligal iyon, at hindi lang opendump may mga nasusunog pang basura,” aniya......

sisigman May 18th, 2012, 08:15 AM ^^ definitely within angeles, otherwise they would've stated that its inside clark. and most likely along don juico parin, i guess they want to be as near as possible to the airport tho i wish they would settle in balibago (mc arthur) to fill up those vacant lots

:ohno::ohno:

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Biosphere facility has started producing green energy pellets from residual waste, a city official said.
City Council’s committee on environment chairman Councilor Reden Halili made the announcement Wednesday.
Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.
Biosphere is the gasification or waste to energy partnership of the City Government and Blue Steel Corporation.
Halili showed Mayor Oscar Rodriguez some pellets from the facility’s dry run last Monday.
“We observed the production of the green pellets during the dry run…We are hopeful that by March 1 this year, we will dump garbage there and not in Kalangitan,” Halili said.
He added that once all pieces of equipment of the Biosphere facility are put in place and it becomes operational next month, it can already generate electricity for the city and nearby towns.
Rodriguez welcomed the move and said the facility would be a big relief in solid waste management for the city and other municipalities.
The mayor also urged Fernandinos to help in proper waste disposal, as he made his rounds of barangays during the city-wide clean-up day.
“Let’s make cleanliness of our surroundings a daily habit. It will be our part in mitigating climate change as well as averting disasters. Let us all join in making a strong point and be part of the advocacy to make a difference,” said Rodriguez.

mnemonick May 18th, 2012, 06:20 PM MABALACAT -- Mayor Marino Morales announced Friday that President Benigno Aquino III has signed a law converting this first-class town into a component city.
The President signed on Wednesday Republic Act 10164, declaring Mabalacat as the third city of Pampanga.
Morales said a plebiscite will be held within a month to know if the people will accept or refuse the cityhood proposal.
Morales earlier thanked Senators Lito Lapid, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Tito Soto, Franklin Drilon, Jinggoy Estrada and Representative Carmelo Lazatin for their full support in sponsoring the “Mabalacat Cityhood Bill.”
Morales had already embarked on a beautification plan for Mabalacat town expected to become a full-fledge city by 2013, the same year the town will celebrate its 300th founding anniversary.
“After 300 years, Mabalacat will be a component city complete with an international airport, a freeport and modern expressways,” said Morales.
Morales said a stimulus funding of P500 million was already allocated for the development of major infrastructure projects to complement the turning of Mabalacat town into a component city.
The projects include the Mabalacat public market, a “Triple A” slaughterhouse, lighting of major roadways, construction of additional classrooms at Mabalacat Community College and a central business district.
“With this projected structures, Mabalacat will become the center of trade in Pampanga because it will play a major role in the development of the Clark International Airport. Also, more hotels will be built in Mabalacat to accommodate the influx of tourists,” said Morales.

Oh, I only care about that new central business district...I hope its somewhere other than Dau, lighting of the road isnt really necessary now....its not that dark along Mc Arthur, just tiny part of it, what we need are new roads, Mabalacat-Mexico or Mabalacat-Porac, New city public market would be okay since its quite untidy at times but what the hell is that slaughter house :lol::lol:, gee i hope they will put that in the farthest part of Mabalacat away from the people
