nice pictures, dread. I've never been to Kunming and I only know it from your pics. Do you have any pictures for your Guangzhou trip?

yup ur right its lijang not dali.Ther're not cell phone pics but as i said thre sizings up the spout.
Last years trip in india (see scc india) pics was OK.All the shots are available on flickr @ art_ikon - 'chinese travels'.
They're better quality.I probably wont have the time to put them on ssc for a while now.
theres afew from Gaunzou, but i was ill there so didnt get out that much. But from there , theres some interesting 'live food' shots for those not familiiar with the variations available in the real chinese culinary arts
Theres a few from kunming, a few from Lijang
But most from Dali.

dont think my machine can read the other disc with guanzhou & other 'transport' pics. So above is a few of Dali & lijang as compensation.
Notice the bus, its a regular bus , not a special tourist bus.Same as the west.
Also the bus in the top set of kunming shots. Its to a similar but higher standard than the buses here in the UK.
IE: to Singapore standard.
Its a regular no'3 or whatever town bus in Kunming.
That blew me away.As an example of how developed China is its aa useful indcator for those who've not been there.
Now i mentioned on another forum that I'd come across some prisinors being used as, presumably, forced Labour.
Indeed. My mate (the one in the shots wearing green if anyones gone on Flickr to look,no its not me....)has being going to China & Yunan for 20 years .His fluent in Manderin.& almost in cantonese.
He is as the locals often say 'an old china hand'.He does fair trade textile buisness, has used the same tailor in Dali for 5 years.(though not anymore)
She showed him her new factory which turned out, after much enquiring, to indeed be prisoners. We wernt allowed to take shots .
.Also he found out that many roads & tunnels had been constructed that way too.At least in that part of Yunan. So there you go .
However this paractice is rather unsavoury for us in the 'liberal developed' west, as far as i see it it only replicates similar practices that were used when we developed.
And are STILL being used , though not anything like as extensivly in the USA.
So when poeple sat that CHina is the new evil dictatorship - as they do alot here in the UK -and give forced labour as their backup, I use the development argument.
China is a dictatoreship but its mostly benign. Much like Singapore , Taiwan were & indeed Thailand is , as we speak.
And my view is that like everywhere it will become democtratised as it developes.
