Hi all...

I'm creating a community forum for here, kinda like what the other metro forums around SSC have. (only better I hope)... It'll be a forum within the forum for talking about things that are still local, but are kinda off-topic when discussed in a thread on the current forum. Cool places to hang out, local sports and politics, weather and so on...

I like to ensure that each metro forum's community forum has a locally relevant name... Like for NYC, they chose "Grand Central"... Los Angeles recently chose "The Interchange"...

So, what should the name be for this forum? I have some ideas of my own, but want to see what others think (and especially if anyone thinks of the same thing, which I always take as a sign of genius at work. lol)...

And while we're at it, say hello to the new mod/editor for the Tampa metro forum, FloridaFuture...

He will help organize the development news lists, and help assist in finding trouble posts and such... No local mod deals much with discipline, so don't think of him as being any different, as he won't be banning anybody or anything like that. that's my pleasure. ;)

If you have a question, he may be of assistance, though folks should always remember to use the 'report a post' feature when encountering a trouble post, or perhaps your own duplicate post... We're starting to streamline things a bit, otherwise SSC will be crushed under the growth.

In the coming weeks, I will probably add another mod/editor in here, to ensure that the forum is well managed at all times.

Hmm . . . I could go with generic "Bay Cafe" or "Ybor Lounge" or with a little tricky and pretend we are a bunch of Cubans in the 1950s and call it "Tropicana" (for the restaurant in Ybor) or "Centro Bahia"

Or something completely different

Names that seem to work best are thematic, often evoking imagery of something known to define the area, or that is highly recognized in the area as a gathering place of some kind.

It is also within my wherewithal to actually name it right after a real local venue. Sort of an honorary thing, with their permission of course. We've got other such cooperative naming type things going on around the boards, and it works well.

So, if we wanted to call it Mons Venus Lounge for example, I could probably get Redner to give me permission to do so. :D

Or as smiley said, we could go with somethign comepletely different... lololol

Clear St. Pete-West Tambor Bayshore Cafe?
We should name it after a Landmark. Maybe like Ybor Square, or Tampa Bay Hotel Lounge or something to that affect

Ybor Square works... or we could use Centro lounge.

My suggestion would be "Malfunction Junction"

Remember this isn't just a Tampa forum - it includes St. Pete, Clearwater, etc... so a good name should incorporate both, in my opinion.

My suggestions:

Gaspar's Ship/The Jose Gasparilla (symbol of Tampa)

Port Tampa (industrial identity)

The Sprawl (our massive burbs)

Skyway Lounge (bridge connects the two sides of Tampa Bay, plus it kinda evokes the name "Skybar") or maybe just The Skyway or Sunshine Skyway or whatever

The St. Pete Times Forum (double-meaning of "forum", name of St. Pete bit in downtown Tampa)

Skyway Lounge is good, as is anything evoking our rich Cuban history (my favorite aspect of the region, to be honest)..... Centro something, perhaps... Centro Bahia, or simple el Centro... certainly there are other good Cuban names. I feel so white all of the sudden... boo...

Either that, or the Skyway Lounge... that's my vote.

^See, I was hoping for something more 'cultural' sounding too...

I thinking of something that would either describe the Ybor clubs (Think Cuban Club, Italian Club, etc... not Amphitheater or Empire)

Or that would describe the beach hangouts like Shepherd's and the Hurricane and all of the dives along the beach...

FloridaFuture

You could put the word "centro" infront of a lot of things to make it sound cultural and local, like "Centro Cigar City" perhaps.

I like the Skyway Cafe and Skyway Lounge. How 'bout Bay Area Lounge. . .

West Central Fla. Lounge Lizards Just Rappin', anyone? ;)

I could get behind El Centro...

Some other establishment names to consider:

La Teresita
The Columbia
King Corona's

Or you could try something like The Cigar Bar
La Torcedor (cigar roller)
something cigar related? (since we're the Cigar City)

Maxim98
April 11th, 2007, 02:31 AM
La Teresita is a really catchy one.

La Torcedor might be toooo obscure (but I like it, too).

I think we should go with something less.... generic. Again, Skyway Lounge and The Hurricane make for cool names, but I really like the Hispanic/Cuban names.

We need a shortlist... if you see something you like above, "second" it by reposting it... heh.

The Quarter borrows too much from N.O. in my opinion... even if ours is superior ;-)

Centro Ybor could work.

Agreed about the Quarter... too derivative.

I liked the idea of Fort Brooke. Certainly, its the origins of both Hillsborough and Pinellas counties as Pinellas was cut from Hillsborough towards the end of the 1890's though the first years of the 20th century.

Another idea would be Plant Hall.

If we are talking historical forum title names, I wouldn't mind calling it "La Gaceta." The countries only trilingual paper that united the Italian, Spanish, and English in Ybor under a single quality media outlet.

Plays off the Bay Walk in St. Pete.

...or "Coffee Talk" with Linda Richman. We'll have some coffee, we'll talk, no big whoop.

JASON:) , my MasterChief and friend:banana: ,
I've been watching this thread,
and to come to a final answer here,
For the name under the North American Skyscrapers Forum,
:) honestly should be IMO
Tampa / St. Petersburg
Welcome to the Skyway Bay Cities

I believe it explains it all !!!

Jason:) , My MasterChief and Friend,
^^
Sounds good:banana: , We are talking about a forum that has many " Bay Cities ",
such as,
Tampa ,
St. Petersburg,
Brandon and Pinellas County,
Bradenton and Sarasota, should be added to this Forum,
because these cities are very close to the Tampa Bay harbor entrance.
Clearwater and Gulf Beaches,
and Skyway and Gateway, Apollo Beaches

had to re-edited this:lol: ,
To Add also,
" Skyway ", for the Sunshine Skyway Bridge connection to Both sides of Tampa Bay, connecting the Bay Cities .

you crack me up Chuck...

Yeah, it will probably be something-something Skyway...

I was really hoping for something in Spanish that made sense for the area as a whole (not just Tampa, like anything involving "Ybor" would), but I don't know what that would be. I liked the La Gaceta suggestion, but that doesn't make sense to call it that considering what La Gaceta means.

You just came up with the Best Idea,

" Welcome to La Bay Cities Skyway "

I like both names, except that someone may have it in all caps one time and another translates it to another: like, LA BAY CITIES SKYWAY, comes out at the end as LA Bay Cities Skyway or L.A. Bay Cities Skyway and then of course, you end up with Bay City Plywood    with the three guys doing their knee-jerk dance.

So far, I like:
Centro Skyway Cities
The Sunshine Skyway Station
Bay Talk

But I think the names may eventually be too bland. I was thinking of a name that's tasty, so sweet you can eat it. And also has a "spanish" flair to it and have a familiarity in the area.

How about:

The Skyway Guava
Skyway Guava Lounge
Skyway Guavarilla Room

Jason:) , My MasterChief and Friend,

okay:banana: , we have a good chance here of a Name,
thanks to TampaRealEstate:)

we now have:nuts: ,

" Welcome to La Bay Cities Sunshine Skyway Cafe Lounge ",

or just to make it shorter,

" La Bay Cities Sunshine Skyway Cafe Lounge "

p.s. ,I had to re-edited this, please tell me How long from now can we have a " Final " decision and to be put up for real ???

That's quite a long name, Chuck. ;)

Maybe it's best to keep it short and sweet like Skyway Lounge or Suncoast Cafe or something similar. :tongue2:

Thanks Que:) !!!, my friend,
I know Jason will make it Shorter,
with Skyway Lounge in there somewhere,
I believe IMO , suncoast just doesn't sound right since it's mostly called the Gulf coast.
I hope its done selected and made on the North American Skyscrapers Forum's front page soon,

How about some outside input?( might be visiting in a month!) I know in the T.O. section we have one single thread and we rotate the name every 500 posts because we couldn't decide. I guess this is going to be something more permanent though.
