Tignan natin kung sino mananalo.. Pob. Malolos or Pob. Sta. Maria

Gusto ko ring makita ng personal ang Wall Street ninyo, Walter Mart and some changes within your town proper.

marcjeff03
September 23rd, 2010, 04:11 PM

marcjeff03
September 23rd, 2010, 04:20 PM
But the best thing that Baliuag have..nagawa nilang-icombine ang nagsiksikang CBEs,masisikip na kalsada,.na nakatulong para maiporma at magmukhang napaka unlad..dagdagan pa ng Plaza sa gitna with Clock Tower..

Plus the SM at PG..to add the booming ambience in general.

marcjeff03
September 23rd, 2010, 04:26 PM

Tapos minsan pa automatic na namamatay for several minutes then buhay ulit.

Jose Chichioco-Cojuangco, Sr.

"Don Pepe"

(July 3, 1896 - August 21, 1976) was a former Representative of the 1st district of Tarlac in the Philippines. He served from 1934 to 1946. Cojuangco is one of the patriarchs of the Cojuangco clan. He was the father of former Philippines President Corazon Aquino. He was also a grandfather of actresses Kris Aquino and Mikee Cojuangco and current Philippines President Noynoy Aquino.

Among the four male heirs of the Cojuangcos, Don Pepe, as he is remembered, was the only one born in Malolos, Bulacan, where his father built the secret stairway in Barasoain Church used by the Spanish friars to smuggle women into their private quarters. The old Cojuangco-Chichioco mansion still stands a few meters from the Barasoain Church on land inherited by Tecla from her Chichioco merchant father. It is maintained for the Cojuangcos by their Chichioco relatives. The physical address used to be known as #540 Paseo del Congreso but the locals called it Calle de las Mestizas (street of the Mixed Filipinas) on account of the numerous women who lived there, daughters of the friars nearby. After World War II, the name was changed to Santo Niņo Street, Mestizohin District.

Sweet Victory: The culinary shrines of Malolos
Tuesday, 08 June 2010 20:31 Louie Jon A. Sanchez
source: http://www.asianjournal.com/aj-magazine/midweek-mgzn/5733-sweet-victory-the-culinary-shrines-of-malolos.html

In our recent journey in the City of Malolos, we not only were struck by the sights and sites of revolutionary history. We were also captivated by the culinary junctures this historic city showcases. Each locale has a culinary secret, and we found out that this city was definitely also a sweet tooth’s haven.

Just a kilometer drive away from the Tabang Exit at the North Luzon Expressway, at the junction of Malolos and Guiginto, there is this one culinary shrine you will never ever miss. Its front store is always packed with people, carrying back to their vehicles boxfuls of popular Bulacan sweets and pastries, quite a usual scene in any destination.

But these boxes sporting the signature green checkered design contain not just any other pastry. For the people flocking this store right after the Malolos Arch, they are taking home a piece of a well-kept family recipe.

In a span of more than two decades, Eurobake, the brand and the bakeshop, has become a by-word among Malolos and Bulacan locals and pastry lovers. But its history dates back to pre-war times when the Ramos Family, who began the baskeshop in 1983, still made bread in that old, quaint panaderia in the Malolos Poblacion.

In the mid-40s, the matriarch, Salome Ramos, a natural pastry connoisseur, created in her kitchen what would be a merienda hit among the Malolos folks. Calling it inipit, she culled the name from the Tagalog word to describe the pastry which puts in a thick and sweet custard-like mixture spread between two beds of flat sponge cake.

In 1983, two years after going on a European trip, husband and wife Rene and Bessie Ramos thought of continuing the family legacy through Eurobake. Buying the property in its present location, the business grew fast and the treats became popular. Aside from Inipit, the bakeshop also carried another one of Malolos’ favorite pastries, the Ensaymada.

Today, Eurobake is at the helm of son Raymond Ramos, who led us back down memory lane in that first stop of our Bulacan culinary tour. The husband and wife team later on joined the group to show how the tempting pastries are made.

"Ensaymadas are always best with Queso de Bola and Quesong Puti," says Rene, who originally worked in the construction business. "The original ensaymadas are simply baked bread with lard on top. But we Filipinos are so creative, we’ve topped it all up with so many things like ham and salted egg. We always love extras, I think," chides Raymond, while helping out prepare the specialty extra large ensaymadas.

While many have followed suit in selling their own brands of the ensaymadang Malolos, Eurobake is proud that their pastry remains a well-guarded family recipe, a remembrance of the old town ensaymada from the times of their Panaderia Concepcion.

The inipit meawhile remains a hit, as Eurobake continues to expand. With stalls in the Greenbelt Mall in Makati and in the Greenhills Shopping Center, the third generation Ramoses of Eurbake continues to carry the legacy which began in the kitchens of their forebears.

After the early morning treat of ensaymada and inipit, we drove to the outskirts of Malolos, onto the street aptly named Inang Wika, or mother language in Tagalog, in the barangay of Caniogan. There lives a woman who has been known for being the master of a dying culinary paper craft. With the remaining strength she could muster, she attempts to pass it on to the generation of today, through her daughters-in-law and younger relatives.

Much has been written about Ka Luz Ocampo, 82, the woman known for her wonderfully made pastillas wrappers. But our visit has shown that she remains an enigma. A woman of a few words, she lets her hands do the talking, quite literally. With her small pair of scissors, she creates in an almost sleight-of-hand fashion, intricately designed paper wrappers that adorn the favorite local milk candy.

Ka Luz learned the craft at the age of 11. "In our town of San Miguel, schools used to teach this paper craft. It used to be an everyday affair," remembers Ka Luz. "But slowly, it was phased out, and only a few of us have managed to continue doing it."

Ka Luz’s design ranges from the bahay-kubo and Maria Clara to native landscape and figures. "I take my design from nature. I love to observe, to look around. That’s where I get my inspiration."

Looking in her eyes, one could easily see how perceptive Ka Luz is. In our conversation, she opens a box where she keeps finely crafted pastillas wrappers in different shapes, sizes, and colors. She explains how these beautiful wraps are made. "I first think of a design. I already have designs though, which I draw on each piece of papel de japon. After tracing, I do the folding and the cutting. One cutting could make at least four wrappers."

Ka Luz also fondly remembers her mother who made the sweets. "It’s something we did together before," she recalls. Aside from the pastillas wrappers, the legendary woman is also visited for another crafty product—fruit carvings.

After showing us her wrappers, she brought in a bottle of cooked carved dayap swimming in syrup. The flowery design was astounding. "That’s more complicated to make by the way," Ka Luz adds. "I used to make a lot of those but my dayap tree started to wilt. It died recently."

Ka Luz’s talent has touched so many people, including high profile individuals like the artist Jaime Zobel, who recently gifted her with a collage of photographs of her pastillas wrappers. "Don Jaime personally requested that I trace his name in the paper. It’s a wonderful gift," she says. And her eyes continue to sparkle, as if swimming in the memories of a past she has been able to bring in this at once, forgetful era.

After an afternoon of historical tours, we ended up in what looks like a fast food for kakanins and sweets in Barangay Santa Isabel. Known as Citang’s, the store which has open windows and wide tables for diners is frequented here for its sumptuous rice cakes and other Bulacan delicatessen since the 1970s. The treats are very much in demand that by the time we reached the place, many of its favorites are almost sold out. Citang’s is owned by the Encarnados, another old Malolos culinary family.

From the old bakeries to the kakanin stands, Malolos gives that kind of pleasurable sugar rush, almost sinful to some extent. But the history says it all, even the famed Women of Malolos who are supposedly masters of the kitchen. If Malolos is another republic, it must be a republic of sweets.

Is Tonyboy C. the great grandson of Luna?

The first Jose Cojuangco, father of Melecio and Ysidra, according to historian Carlos Quirino, settled in Malolos, Bulacan, as a Chinese carpenter and artisan. He is remembered for having built a staircase leading from the church to the convent, so that girlfriends may pass unnoticed into the friar's quarters.

Steve Latorre, Ric Manapat and I checked this out, and found a walled-in space at the end of the front balcony, with a wall not aligned with the wall in the next room. And right underneath this wall, is a wooden ceiling lower than the adjoining cement ceiling, over an iron gate separating the church from the convent, right beside the choir loft, where the girls are expected to be. If there was such a staircase built by Cojuangco for priestly assignation, it would be located here.

Steve Latorre, who used to run the Catholic seminary near Malolos, tells of the street named Sto. Nińo, also known as Calle de las Mestizas, where the elite of the town used to live, full of mestizas whose origins can only be surmised. Here Jose Rizal, Antonio Luna and our other heroes are said to visit, to court the girls and carouse. Malolos must have been an exciting town then.

A walking distance from the Barasoain Church in No. 540 Paseo del Congreso, the town's main street, stands the old mansion of the Cojuangcos, still owned by the family and attended by the Tecla Chichioco (wife of Melecio) side of the family. A young 17-year-old UST student, Jennifer Bantigue, recounts the family gossip. The house was used during the Malolos Convention as an informal meeting place of important delegates. General Antonio Luna used to sleep there. Aha!

Ric Manapat has long contended that Antonio Luna and Ysidra Cojuangco had long been lovers before their last tryst in Paniqui. And that if there was a love affair, it must have occurred in Malolos where the Cojuangcos continued to maintain their old house, far from the prying eyes of their townmates in Paniqui.

Indeed, at the time of Jose's conception, sometime between July and October 1895, the Cojuangcos were still permanently residing in Malolos, having moved to Paniqui in March the following year.

The other candidate Antonio was born according to his Ateneo 1918 Annual in the year 1899. In that entire Annual all graduates listed only the year of their birth, not the month or the date. It is surprising to note that all previous and subsequent Annuals, especially those listing the other brothers, gave the exact date, month and year of the graduates' birth. It is hard to believe that the entire 1918 Annual, like his tombstone in Manila Memorial, would be changed to accommodate the secrecy wanted by one single man.

As a matter of fact, if Antonio were born in Malolos instead of Paniqui, we will never know, because the Birth Registries in eight volumes, supposedly covering the period from October 1775 to 1904, stops at February 1899 before Antonio might have been born. What is most suspicious is that a tag that describes the missing volume was left inside the exhibit, suggesting that the missing volume actually exists but was stolen.

Assume that Antonio was born in the year 1899. He would have been conceived between April 1, 1898 (nine months before January 1, 1899) and March 31, 1899 (nine months before December 31, 1899). His predecessor Juan was born on April 18, 1898 -- which means that if Antonio were born of the same mother, he would not have been conceived anytime between April 1 and May 18, so soon before and after Juan's birth.

The Malolos Congress opened in September 15, 1898, and continued into the next year, well within the period of possibility. The love child of Luna and Ysidra was not probably conceived in the first week of June, 1899, a few days before the general was assassinated, as has always been assumed by those who read Quirino's book.

The love tryst must have occurred in Barasoain during the Malolos Congress. According to Vivencio R. Jose in his book, The Rise and Fall of Antonio Luna, “When the Republic formed the Red Cross Association, Luna requested that it `collect funds with which to give small gifts to the soldiers in the lines.' Moreover he invited the Red Cross Ladies to bring these gifts to the soldiers themselves... Consequently he had the ladies carried by train from San Fernando, Pampanga, to the frontlines.”

Could Ysidra have been one of those ladies, a virgin love-struck by an officer in uniform? Antonio Luna was known to be a romantic figure, who once published a book of poetry called Las Estrellas de Mi Cielo (Stars of my Sky), and who remembers: “The happy young women go running from the gardens because the dance is about to begin. On their bashful looks are sparkles of laughter; they gather their wide skirts of silk with the right hand, showing the small stockinged feet in climbing the stairs of the house to get to the hall.” A very erotic image at the turn of the century.

If indeed it is true that Ysidra and Luna fell passionately in love in Barasoain during the Malolos Congress, then Ysidra must have been already pregnant, or have already given birth to a love child, when Luna brought her the gold from the Ilocos and Central Luzon separately a few days before he died. And he would have probably assured her that he would soon marry her and make a respectable woman out of her. The gold might have served as assurance and insurance.

Moreover, while the Cojuangcos have been indifferent students, very few of them earning the highest scholastic honors in the schools they attended, the Lunas are a family of geniuses and achievers. Antonio's brother Manuel was a violinist and conductor. Jose was a doctor of medicine. Juan was a painter famous in Spain and all Europe. And Antonio Luna himself had excellent grades and was a pharmacist with a medico-legal practice of analyzing blood samples, won a science-literary contest, and was an expert in the use of the gun and the saber. The love child of Ysidra and Luna would inherit the genius of Luna, and still remain a Cojuangco.

We contend that the most likely candidate to be the love child of Luna is Antonio, the father of Ramon and grandfather of Tonyboy of the PLDT, for many compelling reasons.

First is the name Antonio, common to both father and son, and passed on to grandson Antonio Cojuangco Jr. who was killed by the Japanese with his parents, and to the great grandson Antonio Cojuangco III, the president of PLDT.

Second is that Antonio Luna was a pharmacist and medical technician, and Antonio Cojuangco was a doctor of medicine, with a natural desire to be in the same field as his father. All the other Cojuangco brothers -- Jose, Juan and Eduardo -- either took up law or business.

Third is the secret and almost conspiratorial way that his birthdate is being withheld from the public.

Fourth is that the descendants of Antonio Cojuangco the elder, unlike his brothers and their families, are excellent scholastic achievers like the Lunas. Antonio's son Ramon graduated from Fordham University with a business degree, cum laude; and Ramon's son Tonyboy, PLDT president, graduated summa cum laude with an economics degree in Ateneo.

The common physical features of Antonio Luna and Antonio Cojuangco, as shown by the photos above, cannot all happen in a million years, unless they have the same genes:

Fifth, to continue our enumeration, the hairlines of Juan and Jose are neat and straight across the forehead, while those of two Antonios form a V at the parting of the hair at the “hati” -- a sort of reverse widow's peak.

Sixth, the two Antonios have the same pout on the lower lip.

Seventh, they have bushy eyebrows on their right side, and less pronounced pencil-thin eyebrows on their left side.

Eighth, their right eyes are round and almond-shaped; and the left eyes are small, slant and located LOWER than those on the right.

Ninth, whose is the OTHER body buried with Antonio Cojuangco? If as we will find later, Antonio Luna’s body has disappeared from the face of the earth, and is neither in Batac where he was born, or in Cabanatuan where he was assassinated, then is it possible that the other body buried with Antonio Cojuangco, is that of his father Antonio Luna?? Easy to tell. DNA samples are available from present live members of the Luna family, and the same is available from the descendants of Antonio Luna. Blood will tell, and if the DNA element in the bones of both Antonio Luna and Antonio Cojuangco be compared, the final proof of their common genes may be verified.

Congratulations are in order for Tonyboy and his family. And we rest our case.

The Municipality of SANTA MARIA, BULACAN

The town of Santa Maria
has a glorious past, a
pulsating present and a
directed future. It has the
protective and inspiring
guidance from the Blessed
Virgin de la Purisima
Concepcion.
Captain Jose whose real
name is Don Jose Serapio
enriches the past history
of Santa Maria. He was a
towering disciplinarian, an
imposing leader and a
romantic adventurer. He
served Santa Maria as its
Captain Municipal for
several years during
which the enlightened and
enriched the historical
career of the town.
The town of Santa Maria is
situated in the Eastern part
of the province. Angat
and Norzagaray on the
North, Marilao on the
South, San Jose del Monte
on the East, and on the
West by Balagtas and
Bocaue, bound it. The
construction of the church
gave way to the
formation of the
community. Its
foundation in 1702 by the
Spanish friars marked the
beginning of the spiritual
crusade. The friars
founded the town proper
in 1793. Civil affairs were
also attended to, so the
appointment of the first
Capitan Andres de la Cruz,
made way for the
permanent establishment
of the town. He showed
examples worthy of
emulation, which other
captains who succeeded
him did also. For many
times they showed their
discontent with the friars'
administration. The friars
interfered in civil affairs
mostly to pursue their
selfish interests.
Santa Maria is not only
proud of its physical
asset, political stability,
progressive economy,
but also proud of having a
son in the person of Jose
Corazon de Jesus, the
incomparable poet, the
one and only "Huseng
Batute", who started
composing his verse as a
child and nationally
recognized later, next to
Balagtas in order of time,
as the "King of Poets".
Another Francisco
Santiago, the composer
who left among as his
legacies the immortal
"Nasaan Ka Irog" and
other famous songs.
In times of war, Santa
Maria has contributed the
blood of its people. She is
proud of their "Veteranos
de la Revolucion" who
took part in the past
struggles for the nation's
independence.
The town Santa Maria is
full of contrasts: It has an
old, remodeled church,
and a stone's throw away
from this religious faįade
is the new modern
municipal building of the
town build a few years
ago. Santa Maria has
modern embroidery
factories, which
manufacture ready-made
dresses for young and old
alike; well-paved roads,
busy poblacion and big
residential houses, and a
general hospital. Santa
Maria has been known for
many years as the "egg
basket" of the Philippines
and one of the towns in
the province, which is
thriving with cottage
industries.
Unemployment is not a
problem in this town. The
best thing a non-Santa
Maria resident to do to feel
the town's busy
atmosphere is to join the
people.

ganda ng pagkakasabi talaga dito. Wahah nadale nung nagtype. :D :D
