----------
My home burned down day before yesterday.
I have lost everything, didn't have any insurance :(
I am traumatised and posting from my hotel r8 now the below again.
I have been offered a green tech. job in India.
I might need some advice-consultancy-networking-staff-connections-support. Money is even less of an issue than before, what's needed is like-minded, motivated and progressive doers :grouphug: .
I'm an von Bertalanffy award winning systems engineer. 1'st, I specialised in telecom. and in telecom- both software and hardware (land-line and mobile). I have done motors, turbines and aerospace (avionics, jet engines/gas turbines) work. I super-specialised in patents and intellectual property law. I 'prosecuted' patent and IP Law for Nortel Inc., a 100 yr. old, one time $ 300 Billion listed Corp.
This green tech. roll-out is an affair of the heart re: India. It's to do with hotels, malls, SEZ's, IT Parks and similar realty projects in energy savings plus diesel savings for upto 30 % in the diesel engine industry. Proven tech. with solid support from source. No bs.
Now, the last time I posted this some forumers pm'ed me. Thank you! I could not respond because of below skyscrapercity inbox msg:

I appeal to all, help me do this for the greater good of India and the world. I am looking to re-build my whole life after the fire at home reduced everything to ashes. Feels like rising up from the dead. This may turn out to be big as the guys behind the tech. are big and classy. Let's unite!

One person is homeless after fire ripped through a bachelor apartment downtown.
It happened around 6:18 p.m. Tuesday at 442 Nelson St. — a small two-storey building divided into units.
One caller to 911 said smoke was coming from a window on the first floor.
Firefighters arrived to find flames but managed to get it under control within a half-hour and searched all floors, including the basement.
Damage is estimated around $80,000, but the cause remains unknown. There were no injuries.
The occupant of the unit where the fire started is being assisted by the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

Nelson Street fire leaves one person homeless
BY KRISTY NEASE NOVEMBER 8, 2011
One man has been displaced from his home on Nelson Street in Sandy Hill after a fire broke out in his unit early Tuesday night.
The call at 442 Nelson St. — a two-storey, multi-unit building — came in at 6:19 p.m. after a fire broke out in a one-room apartment unit on the first floor.
Twenty-six firefighters in seven rigs were dispatched to the building near the Somerset Street East intersection. The fire was knocked down in about five minutes and the situation was under control by about 6:40 p.m., a fire department spokeswoman said.
No one was hurt. The displaced man was receiving assistance from the Salvation Army and the Red Cross.
Firefighters estimated the cost of the damage at about $80,000. An investigator was brought in to try to determine the cause of the blaze, and that investigation was ongoing Tuesday night.

dunefreezer November 25th, 2011, 08:41 PM Guys, was there any new TV tower planned for Mumbai with a planned height of 560m?. I was browsing through Emporis and ran into it. I wanna know if it is false Information.
Emporis: Mumbai Buildings (http://www.emporis.com/city/mumbai-india/all-buildings)
I tried searching for more information, but in order to view them, we needed to purchase a membership.
The old tower is also in the list (that is 300m). So, there are not the same what they mentioned.
azzi282 November 25th, 2011, 09:35 PM ^^ I think it was a proposed milenium tower. Probably will never get built. It was posted back in 2009 in the Mumbai subforum aswell:
Am I missing something?
According to Emporis.com (after trawling their web-site) there is a new TV Tower of 560 meters (1837 ft) planned for Mumbai.

Women are respected in India and are being empowered... , even I respect my sisters, mothers and girl classmates , so please get over your "stereotype"
Though I also get angry when outsiders tell us about this but this is a fact my friend that female empowerment in India os long way off . Indian women still feel insecure , are not properly represented in work places , are discriminated in family and still seen as liability by most parents.
Even though we are improving we are a long way off from equality. So take the criticism constructively !!
BTW sorry for going OT !!

Can people get back on topic please. I like piercings but this isn't the forum to discuss the popularizing of tattoos and piercings on Indian women.
And I hope both patent and dread see the funny side and don't start a war of words to further derail the thread. Cheers!

This list is not 100% accurate, I have updated all building dates and added almost 90% of them to this list as per the sources/reference I could find on internet. But yes almost all entries are true... some might be on hold if not u/c but yes this list is not complete, Mumbai will have more than 130-140 tall buildings u/c... by 2014-15 Mumbai will at 70-80 tall building topped out...

Well, I am very dissappointed with the way things are turning out to be in Mumbai, metro is delayed, Marine line's India tower is cancelled, some of the most ambitious projects are either in hold or are completely forgotten... and that kind of pisses me off...

I am also truly looking for an answer.
I see very enthusiastic people on this forum singing praises for the new buildings, development in mumbai (i was enthu too till few years back).
But where are we going ? infra is so pathetic that the moment you open your window of you 2 crore mansion or step out of your gated community you are into a 10 rupee mumbai.
where will things stop ? even if we stop building new homes now it will take 10 years to get a good infra in place where people can move and feel like we are living in a developed city. but the unstoppable construction for homes is taking mumbai to a third class city
^^For me its the 18th century infrastructure...
great india December 21st, 2011, 11:55 PM ^^Well put, not only Mumbai but if India wants to progress both economically and aesthetically, they have to improve their infrastructure.
dunefreezer December 22nd, 2011, 01:29 AM Yeah it seems the government is going to spend 60 billion $ on Mumbai's infrastructure alone. They better keep up their word. Also I heard they are going to redevelop Mumbai's CST, I'm hoping for a wow factor. Also hoping they keep the high speed rail in mind as they develop the CST.

proudlyindian December 22nd, 2011, 08:02 PM Do you think till now enough is not spent ?
and what is 60 billion $ really going to do. unless we build a parallel underground transport alternatives in mumbai i don't see much hope for infra
politicians want everyone from india to come in. 70% dont pay tax, overburden the system and resources, makes a housing cartel which only 5% can afford and pour the money which they earned from us back to mumbai to screw it up more.

dunefreezer December 22nd, 2011, 08:10 PM I wasn't talking about the amount, I was just saying they are planning to spend that in total in the next 5-10 years....alright?...I don't know what the end result is gonna be, so but I really couldn't care less, considering how trustworthy the words of a the government officials are.

sadhaklal January 11th, 2012, 03:06 PM Source: http://blogs.wsj.com/indiarealtime/2012/01/11/rising-skyscrapers-could-bring-india-down/
The construction of skyscrapers is one indication of a financial bubble, and feverish building activity in India and China suggest a bursting may be on the horizon.
That’s the finding of a recent report by Barclays Capital.
http://s.wsj.net/public/resources/images/OB-RI312_iskysc_DV_20120111054526.jpg
For more than a decade, Barclays’ property analyst Andrew Lawrence has been contending that a spurt in the construction of skyscrapers and other tall buildings in a country signals “an impending financial crisis.”
Mr. Lawrence illustrates his thesis by connecting some of the world’s most famous skyscrapers to economic booms and busts.
He says the construction of New York’s Chrysler Building in 1930 and the Empire State Building in 1931, then the tallest buildings in the world, coincided with the Great Depression. In the seventies, the completion of New York’s famous One and Two World Trade Centers and the Sears Towers in Chicago heralded the global economic crises of 1974. In 1997, Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas Towers took over as the world’s tallest building, but that was followed by an economic collapse across Asia.
More recently, Dubai claimed the world’s tallest building title with the completion of the Burj Khalifa in 2010. Mr. Lawrence notes that this coincided with the most recent global economic crisis.
The construction of skyscrapers and other tall buildings starts at a time of great euphoria when there’s a lot of easy money available, but they typically “finish into a recession,” Mr. Lawrence said in an interview.
In his report, Mr. Lawrence states that no one is yet trying to overtake the Burj Khalifa, so we can breathe easy for now.
But signs of bubbles are appearing in two of Asia’s largest economies, he says.
Mr. Lawrence calls China “today’s biggest bubble builder” because it has 53% of all the world’s skyscrapers under construction. China now has 75 skyscrapers –or buildings which are at least 240 meters tall — and the average height of new skyscrapers is increasing, said the Barclays report. In addition, nearly half of the skyscrapers on the drawing boards are planned for China’s smaller cities.
Meanwhile, India has recently joined the skyscraper building-club.
“This is the first time since we’ve been doing the index that we’ve seen India pop up,” said Mr. Lawrence.
So far, India only has two of the world’s 276 skyscrapers. These are Imperial Tower 1 and 2, residential towers in south Mumbai, which rise to around 250 meters. But over the next five years, India intends to complete 14 new skyscrapers, in its largest skyscraper building boom.
“Worryingly as well, India is also constructing the second tallest building in the world, the Tower of India, which should complete by 2016,” says the Barclays report.
“It’s a warning flag for investors,” said Mr. Lawrence.
sixsigma1978 January 11th, 2012, 03:47 PM ^^ the dubai sydrome has everyone terrified :D
I don't think Mumbai and Dubai are comparable - India is built on strong economic parameters. Plus the fact he's not in touch with reality - India Tower is on hold and will unlikely see the light of day!! Nitpicking doomsday article

+111
pkalein January 11th, 2012, 06:53 PM ^^
Thats not really like that. Whenever a supertall or skyscraper is built some biggies (on which many economies depend) invest in them but when they are not completely sold these people are in loss because there is a lot of money invested which is not returned with profit so because of this economy suffers and due to globalization factor it affect many countries, but in case of India there is not a single investor like it was nakheel in Dubai and investors are mainly concentrated on construction nothing else like nakheel also built Metro n all. In India due to tremendous population demand is always high so I don't think this article make any sense
sixsigma1978 January 11th, 2012, 07:03 PM ^^ actually its more than that - the writer is simply taking precedents - "It happened in Dubai or Kuala Lumpur, so it will happen elsewhere too". If, in his article, had he quoted studies or surveys done that indicate the supply-demand gap is skewing HIGHLY in the direction of the trend that happened to Dubai or even Spain for instance, then there would be validity in his claims!
Seriously - the thing that put me off was this sentence "In 1997, Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas Towers took over as the world’s tallest building, but that was followed by an economic collapse across Asia."
I'm just glad its a blog, so I'm not giving it any worthy attention. I wouldn't expect such an articles from a renowned newspaper - which usually do their research before posting opinions!
KuwarOnline January 11th, 2012, 07:24 PM self del
jubin January 11th, 2012, 07:53 PM correlation is not causality
pkalein January 11th, 2012, 08:36 PM ^^ actually its more than that - the writer is simply taking precedents !
Then writer has to think twice as Empire state and Chrysler building were constructed during Great Depression
archikind January 11th, 2012, 10:04 PM May be true....cant deny his thesis completely.... but again only these great supertall man made creation inspired the mankind to get out of the depression (economic or otherwise)...and keep going...keep building....to reach for that ever illusive heaven if it is there
The fact that these great buildings were built during the time of economic turmoil suggests the resilience of our vision ...our dream...the very foundation of our success as a species...

Suncity January 25th, 2012, 05:41 AM Maybe this has already been posted. But here is a pretty old story about the Legend, Walkeshwar
http://ressex.blog.com/2010/04/09/wtbsu/
The 32-storey building being built by the filmmaker’s company is in trouble over an alleged breach of the Coastal Regulatory Zone Notification
The under-construction, 32-storey ‘Legend’ is in the hot waters with the MCZMA. The coastal environment authority responded to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) alleging that the builders have not sought the requisite clearance from it. This is a violation of the Coastal Regulatory Zone Notification, MCZMA said.
When contacted, Bharat Shah said, “It is fashionable to file a PIL these days.” On being asked specifically about the CRZ permission, he said his team would get back to this paper.
The PIL, filed in the high court by activist Simpreet Singh, alleges that the building has 24 irregularities. Advocate Yogesh Pratap Singh, who represents the petitioner said, “The onus of obtaining all permissions including CRZ lies with the builder.”
dunefreezer January 25th, 2012, 02:03 PM This is exactly what I didn't want.
The new DC rules will bring more eyesores as the developers will be forced to pay more for good looking buildings.
http://www.dnaindia.com/mumbai/report_new-dc-rule-may-deliver-only-eyesores_1641804
adhishvelu January 25th, 2012, 09:27 PM Why not? I think it's a really good rule. All it says is that you have to pay more if you want to make your balcony a part of the house which tbh looks terrible. Infact the government should become more strict and not allow people to take their balconies and flowerbeds in in any case.
This rule ensures that balconies remain balconies which IMO is a good thing.

That thread was created a year ago, can't believe you didn't run into it especially since you comment a lot in different threads.
India101 January 29th, 2012, 01:52 AM That is not a new find, the building must be around 25fl already. And that render even came from that thread

deekshith January 31st, 2012, 07:02 AM To the right of world one is other buildings of world place project i.e, the queen tower and world crest...... to the left it is orchid crown. Both ruby and kohinoor are not visible in this pic :)

Ashbaggins February 2nd, 2012, 08:56 PM I really don't think there's any place like "Upper Worli" though. I'm pretty sure it has been coined by developers. Shouldn't "Lower Parel" suffice?

All this makes me very excited. The process of approval of buildings should be simplified and infrastructure should be developed for the tall buildings. Hope other Indian cities will follow the skyscraper trend.

Jim856796 February 5th, 2012, 07:48 AM I heard there is a story about developers being forced to pay more for good-looking buildings in Mumbai because of the new DC rules. This may probably bring in more lower-budget skyscrapers of the more plain and simple architectural styles.
Coolguyz February 5th, 2012, 08:13 AM I heard there is a story about developers being forced to pay more for good-looking buildings in Mumbai because of the new DC rules. This may probably bring in more lower-budget skyscrapers of the more plain and simple architectural styles.
"Good looking buildings" is a subjective term. Please read the new DC rules carefully. Its brought in to stop the misuse of FSI by builders which is rampant in the city.
dunefreezer February 5th, 2012, 12:25 PM Yes that's true and it's a very good thing. But I read a real estate expert say it will be harder to get approval for aesthetically pleasing designs. But anyway, all we can do is wait and see how the new DC rules affects the development.
