cemby September 12th, 2011, 06:58 AM nice blog there!!

the pic i think was taken very early on landing pa... usually they do the reverse thrust if the plane is still fast and the last taxiway is getting near..(well, again if the B747 lands near the edge of the runway, bihirang matagal ang reverse)

Yup I saw that....been riding those planes in and out of Davao and the timing of reverse thrust upon landing is getting to be predictable....I am basing this on the pic and my repeated observations....

Actually the landing gear touched the runway malapit na sa fire station building. the 747 was literally floating from the threshold hanggang sa fire station building before it hit the runway. Kaya nag backtrack talaga siya sa RWY 23 before taxiing to A4

malamang hindi na rin masyadong nag reverse thrust kasi nag backtrack.. usually pinipilit ng pilot na pag land nila, papasok na sila kaagad sa A4. at that point, they land near the edge of the runway ang make sure the reverse thrust is on near the fire station

pwede 2 engines lang. if you look at the video of the PAL 747 flight that had a tire problem . when it landed, two engines were only used for reverse thrust. its the two inner engines lang.

the-pseudoneuro September 12th, 2011, 03:42 PM Last week (or two weeks ago) may nag emergency landing na TransAsia Airways (Airbus A321) enroute to Koror, Palau. Ang reason according sa pilot, may grass fire malapit sa airport ng Koror. Zero visibility. Stayed there at bay 7 for one hour ata (mga around 9:30PM)

no, they are not allowed to go out the plane kasi during that time, wala nang tao sa customs. Ayun. Standby lang sa tarmac before lipad ulit to Koror.

DIA/DVO is the only airport which can support night landings for this type of aircraft in the immediate vicinity.:)

how long did they stay sa wadab? although hindi naman na-predict na may mag eemergency landing from an international carrier, i think there should be immigration and customs officials sa airport at night to make the passengers feel comfortable. kawawa naman mga pasaheros. just an opinion :)
cemby September 13th, 2011, 09:20 AM how long did they stay sa wadab? although hindi naman na-predict na may mag eemergency landing from an international carrier, i think there should be immigration and customs officials sa airport at night to make the passengers feel comfortable. kawawa naman mga pasaheros. just an opinion :)
naku. That is big debate! In fact sa mga previous news, the Immigration Bureau even requested the airlines to pay their staff for their overtime. It was such a big brouhaha then...
Actually there is no need naman to have immigration/customs. The layout of the airport terminal is simple. the Airport staff can all bring them inside the pre departure area while waiting. However since the plane has no legal entity etc.... hindi puwedeng lumabas ang mga tao sa airplane... happened to me once when the plane I was riding going to Ha Noi have to land in Guangzhou because of some problems in the Ha noi airport. Hindi rin kami pinalabas....We had to wait for 3 hours....

In flight magazines is one way of promoting an airline and its destinations effectively, normally, it would include a spread of on board purchases and a menu of snacks if you will. The best part is giving the reader a quick background of the history and fleet of the airline which gives the customer confidence and in-depth knowledge on how to fly again. So what message is PAL saying by letting only a few elite read about who it is?, to those fly economy, you can forget what PAL has to offer more and come back at your own risk. Understand the money saved on the prints but losing potential repeat customers can be worst. A simple thing like a flight magazine that promotes branding can always set it apart from the competition.
xzibit31 September 14th, 2011, 02:59 AM http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j303/xzibit31/airport.jpg
there are two possible sites within the airport where the new ASR (radar) will be built.
1. lower left of the pic. beside runway 05.
2. right center of the pic beside the control tower .in the scale model of the airport inside the DIA terminal, this place should have been the isolation pad. but since the isolation pad is at the old tarmac, this place should be nice for the radar.

There's hardly any space within the airport periphery to build hangars if needed.

that's what I was wondering why the magazines are unavailable to the economy class considering budget airlines have them onboard. So If you're flying with PAL and no mags then it will be a bit boring and nothing to refer to if you want to look at their destinations.well,it's easy to search online but hey, you are flying and inflight mags(besides screaming, restless children:lol:) is an intertainment of sort to alleviate your boredom.

Good question! Diba naa to airline na himuon nila alternative hub ang DIA with regards to clark? If so? asa kaha ila mga ahngerts ibutang? kuyog sa mga hangers sa mga small planes?

It made me ask, why can Cebu Pacific manage to publish Smiles and its also for free despite it being a full-time economy class LCC?
For AirPhilExpress, the La Isla is not a "take home" magazine and I find it rare still.
For PAL, only the elite can have it. If you want to read Mabuhay, you need to purchase one off the plane.

cemby September 15th, 2011, 09:58 AM DIA property is actually parang L ang shape. If you would notice at the old airport, there is a strip where most of the smaller planes are housed/stored. (Well, that used to be the Old runway anyway) Yun lang nga, a big area was already taken over by the Airforce.

My God.Why all this time we have been discussing about relocating this airport whereas the land it occupies is huge enough for an expansion.
cemby September 15th, 2011, 03:00 PM My God.Why all this time we have been discussing about relocating this airport whereas the land it occupies is huge enough for an expansion.
Because the area is already built up and the human population is near the area. Living near airports are actually bad for the health..... (noise pollution, stress etc. etc.)

I had a conversation with a supervisor of the ATC...ang ganda pla sana ng plano para sa DIA...yup! xzibit said it, isolation ramp sana un...pati sa international wing, pwd to sya expansion for two jetways...for the ASR, GO! we need it, also the p. taxiway!

wow...the left lower pic... very nostalgic. Insular Hotel when it was still under the Ayalas...I do remember the building was commissioned with no less than Leandro locsin making the draft planning..well, most of the two other buildings remained untouched however the main entrance was made to become modern.... I do wonder...nandoon pa ba sa Insular ang "fishermen" ni Ang Kiukok?
cemby September 25th, 2011, 03:40 PM Fishermen was a mural made by Ang Kiu kok during the 1960s.. It was initially seen at the insular cafe and complemented the huge Capiz ball chandeliers of the coffee shop then. When the main building of Insular hotel was renovated, the said painting was moved to the grand ballroom area. (I do believe that painting now is worth millions).. however, the last time I went there.... IT WAS GONE... (maybe the Gatchalians discovered its worth....)

Hmmm... I think the main problem here is that CAAP does not know its mandate... Is it the government arm to create policies for efficient and safe air transport or is it supposedly the arm to maintain airports?.. It was one of the issues why we remain at Cat 2...
They need to revisit the whole CAAP structure. if not they have to make another agency to handle airports so that CAAP can focus on creating standard policies or investigating problems...

Davao to Butuan vv using ATR is feasible. It would take 6 hours to travel to Davao using land transport.
Using CEB's ATR, it would not take an hour which is very convenient especially if you're in a hurry and if you want to experience "life" in Davao immediately or asap.:lol::cheers:

I saw CAAPs organizational structure; I think they have all the departments necessary. The issue is obviously money, no long term plan. They need to have advanced funding for these equipment before their lifespan catches up; you could imagine the bidding process that has to take place before the contract to repair is tendered out. Even replacing old chairs in provincial terminals seems an eternity, how much more for this multi-million equipment?
davaob4now September 28th, 2011, 03:25 AM Tiger Airways puts Davao City in Asia’s roadmap
THURSDAY, 22 SEPTEMBER 2011 18:38 MANUEL T. CAYON / REPORTER
DAVAO CITY - Tiger Airways, the budget airline of Singapore Airlines, has placed this city among its travel destinations beginning November this year, putting to four the total number of Philippine areas it serves from its Singapore hub.
Aizel delos Reyes, supervisor of the airline company’s Davao office, said the airline’s 180-seater Airbus 320, would serve this city with three flights per week: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays beginning Nov. 1.
Flights from Singapore would arrive at 6:15 p.m. at the Davao International Airport and would leave at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The A-320 plane would arrive at 8:35 p.m. here and depart at 9:05 p.m. on Sundays.
Tiger Airways has also launched its promo fare at P1,599 for travel between January and March next year, when it opened its office here at the Legaspi Suites along Legaspi St. in downtown Davao. This week, it offered another round of promotion for November and December travel.
“We offer different promo rates almost every week,” Delos Reyes told the BusinessMIrror.
Regular rate would be P4,000 including the travel tax of P1,620.
Davao City is the fourth Philippine destination to be served by Tiger Airways. It operates a hub in Clark, which is being served by partner Philippine budget carrier SeaAir with two daily flights. But Tiger Airways continues to serve its destinations in Manila (two flights) and Cebu (one flight).
Aside from Tiger Airways, Silk Air also operates a daily flight to Singapore, some of it on connecting flight in Cebu.

yeah...the new government procurement act was supposed to make things quick with the advent of the so called PHILGeps. the problem is.. its accessibility is hard plus the fact that some suppliers would call for a downpayment of which the act forbids. Thus the problem. Also, tama ka rin, The budget of CAAP is small compared to the much needed equipment. That is why siguro we rely much on the ODA of the other countries for this. (japan has been helping us procure/modernize air navigation equipment... the problem is the budget for its maintenance)
Pero I think CAAP should start dissociating itself as the one maintaining airports. (in short siguro mag decentralize na sila...) so that CAAP can focus on other major issues...
Siguro tama lang rin gawan na lang ng isang authority ang pag handle ng mga airports sa country so that it can have its own separate budget for its maintenance and CAAP continue providing/recommending policies for air safety, investigation etc. this authority should be almost like a GOCC na so that it will not depend much on the Philippine National Government budget. (yun lang nga, tataas ang mga fees i think)
Well of course we have a myopic Congress whose main aim is the maintenance of the their PDAF (aka. Pork Barrel) to further their ambition as congressmen.

I have no objections with this statement! Pero I did drive BXU-DVO at 4 hours and 30 mins.. (hehehe.."emergency" kuno!) sarap! I was so happy with the current state of the road now. It is much much better than before. esp. the Agusan del Sur segment. (well, as usual huwag lang sa Bayugan andd SanFran, ang daming tricycle, trisikad and lahat ng iba pang tri....pati kuliglig... ) BXU-Prosperidad segment needs just a minor improvement na lang. The zigzag in Mawab is now expanded to almost 6 lanes at curve.
DVO-BXU road is better now than DVO-CGY (mangima segment is the biggest problem!)

baka it means that an ATR will do a DVO-GensAn then GenSan to ILO VV... So it may mean that these two routes are almost independent of each other. Parang CEB-CGY-DVO...
Siguro puwede kasi dati may ATR that travels from Manila to Surigao eh...

I do think 5 J should restart a CEB-Tandag (TDG, RPWW) or Bislig(BPH, RPMF)... or DVO-Tandag/Bislig... Surigao del Sur is also a nice place to visit. and also has an economic potential. Besides, these are also historic routes.

I just hope that they make the fare possibly/reasonably competitive, so that they can make profit out of it, without losing the battle. Mukhang umepek naman sa Cebu-Ormoc at Cebu-Dumaguete din naman ang mga short routes na ito, even if they are being served by bus and ferry routes

of course I think they are also considering that.... if it would be priced more, well, I guess no one will ride it.. So parang sa ginawa nila sa Ceb-Dumaguete wherein halos 50 to 100 pesos na lang ata ang price difference kaya pumatok. Well, I guess it helps the riding public greater choices in terms of their schedules. Plus the fact that 5J promo fares in Davao are easily gone before they publish it.. I guess with the acquisition of the A321neo, a bigger/longer version of the A320 may increase the number of seats per flight IF 5J decides to use the plane for the MNL-DVO route....However, this may in turn reduce the flights in the sector again.

well i just had a conversation with a good pilot friend of mine who works for 5J. he said that even if they add the flights to davao, it wont be a problem filling them up. the passengers just keep on increasing. pati nga sila daw nagugulat sa pax load ng davao.
even my pilot friends from PAL can attest to the info given to be by my 5J friends.
my friend who works for 5J was even surprised to know the 5J marketing did not know that TIGER would start the sing-dvo-sing run this november. they are trying to come up with their own daw. soon. the real reason daw why the dvo-sing-svo run and dvo-hk-dvo was cancelled was not due to low passenger loads. the reason was 5J marketing did not fully act on that route daw. parang pinabayaan. they thought that the route would just grow.

Teebob September 30th, 2011, 09:58 AM well i just had a conversation with a good pilot friend of mine who works for 5J. he said that even if they add the flights to davao, it wont be a problem filling them up. the passengers just keep on increasing. pati nga sila daw nagugulat sa pax load ng davao.
even my pilot friends from PAL can attest to the info given to be by my 5J friends.
my friend who works for 5J was even surprised to know the 5J marketing did not know that TIGER would start the sing-dvo-sing run this november. they are trying to come up with their own daw. soon. the real reason daw why the dvo-sing-svo run and dvo-hk-dvo was cancelled was not due to low passenger loads. the reason was 5J marketing did not fully act on that route daw. parang pinabayaan. they thought that the route would just grow.
the pax in DVO is growing daw talaga!
I wonder why PAL didnt do this.meron silang malalaking eroplano and yet they have'nt taken advantage of it.:ohno:PAL is being outsmart by 5j's marketing and it worked well!..on the other hand, coming from 5j's mouth, the davao-sing route is cancelled not due to passenger load.i say, what now PAL?:ohno:sana e deploy nila ang airphil to compete with 5j in these route(dvo-sing):)

Nope... they're separate though sister companies. Kahit si Lucio Tan ang owners nga dalawa, separate yung management ng AirPhil. :D

It does also..kasi yung mga hindi makasakay sa PAL nililipat sa airphil lately.. so mabilis mapuno ang airphil these days...however, tungkol sa strike, no...

Actually Oct 2, 2 flights lang.... I do hope on Oct. 7. everything may get normal. the problem is, It still depends on the available manpower at the airport. I was at Naia 3 and had a chance to meet my friend who works with PAL (one of those who got transplanted from another station to NAIA 3 just to make PAL running) He said that for the next three weeks, we need to look at their website from time to time because there will be flights that can get cancelled because of inavailability of ground crew in Manila. Good thing MNL-DVO is not that badly affected.

Yeah because this route is their money maker route, domestically. just like the MNL-CEb route and the mnl-kalibo route. if you look at the schedules, some routes with multiple flights were cancelled or has 1 flight lang every other day. the mnl-dvo route went back to 3 daily flights and the MNL-Ceb flights has also 3 to 4 daily flights and the mnl-kalibo route also has 3 flights a day.

dapat siguro mag launch na lang ang PAL ng airtaxi service doon sa mga airports hindi gaano mataas ang passenger volume papunta sa DVO then proceed sa main flight papuntang MNL.
for example, airtaxi from GES to DVO. then DVO to MNL.
cemby October 3rd, 2011, 04:17 PM add mo pa:
COT-DVO-MNL
MAT-DVO-MNL
SRL-DVO-MNL
BUK-DVO-MNL
CDO-DVO-MNL (of course as supplementary route lang ;) )
MAT.... mati? (MXI)
SRL (santa rosalia?) or are you referring to Alah Valley (AAV)?
BUK- kasi this code is for BUK, Hungary...Kung malaybalay ang tukoy mo, well, that airfield is hazardous daw considering houses were built at the sides of the runway
Anyway, I want to add na lang OZC-DVO kung marami ang passengers besides DIpolog-DVO and TAC-DVO
Puwede rin PAG-DVO kasi ang layo talaga nito kung bus...
just clearing stuff of the different codes.

this is what sets 5J apart from PR. Cebpac creates demand. By lowering fares , it encourages people to fly. Gone were the days when students from the province would only go home twice/thrice a year (summer/Dec/sembreak), now they can practically fly as often as they want.

Basta we still have to be thankful na DVO isn't included sa pagcocost-cutting ng domestic routes ng PAL since DVO is PAL's profitable domestic route aside from CEB.

YES that is true. there was a news report that PAL wants to concentrate more on the long haul flights and might drop some of the domestic flights (well, CEB and DVO not included)

yeah. but they can just change that in an instance. pero ok na yan.
2 widebody flights (744) per day. kung puno, that would translate to around 800 pax per way. that would be 1600 pax, round trip. that would be around 9 flights RT per day on an a320.

5J is using a mix of A320 and A319 in the mnl-dvo route.

yup... it is preferable that DVO has a taxiway than those two loops at the end of the runway...besides dapat lang may areas na for rapid exits so that the length of time the plane is on the runway will be shortened hence more flights to come in. Its no problem if CX will not land in DVO for the moment besides SG is more aggressive for DVO than CX by putting 2 subsidiaries (silkair and tiger) into the DVO air market foray.

hakhaimo October 8th, 2011, 12:25 AM Hi! :)
I am currently making a "more" accurate 3D model of DIA's current terminal. I found a model at the Google 3D warehouse but I found it is not that accurate, made by thatDavaoGuy. Shown below is his model, as I measured it, the facade facing the tarmac has a width of approximately 896'. Which can fit 4 A330s, with 20' gap between planes wingtip to wingtip. Is is that close to the real thing? Thanks!
