Baria January 31st, 2006, 06:30 PM Where is this Dai Nam Temple? The complex look more like in Taiwan, than in VN.
hanoi2006 January 31st, 2006, 06:35 PM It is located at Binh Duong province. Here you can see the details:http://vietnamnet.vn/psks/2006/01/537556/
Saigoneseguy January 31st, 2006, 10:12 PM :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: This ...er... 'thing' is like just being teleported from nowhere to....nowhere. :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:
Anyway, I sooooooo hate fake mountains :bash: :bash: how many real mountains, cliffs, hills have been destroyed to make them.....
I'm not against it but it seems any guy with a bunch of bucks could absolutly make tha wildest dream comes true.
Nice pagoda but torture me with durian and i still say that I don't see anything vietnamese there, u put it in "Guess the Location" and no one will even think about Vietnam. Believe me, I bet my fortune that this guy riding Wave Alpha has chinese roots. But he's filthy RICH....and he put his money into that huge-ass pa....no financial advisor, no charity foundation rang him....I cannot believe it. :(
Pho-sure January 31st, 2006, 10:38 PM OMG it's so beautiful. I love it. I've always been jealous of the Chinese for recreating big-a$$ magnificent structures and able to afford all those restoration works.
Let's hope the Purple Forbidden City will have its damaged walls and buildings be restored or reconstructed as well.
versalvin February 1st, 2006, 12:18 AM i give credits for the efforts of trying to building something cultural on the massive scale...beyond that this complex is horrible...
it looks too amusement-park like...seriously i thought this was another version of Suối Tiên park in saigon...especially the massive dragon
but to be a cultural icon...a big big disappointment...:bash: if you want to do something like this..DO IT SERIOUSLY.....the ideas and designs are tơo messy...read the related article...
the fake mountians are horrible...
it's massive, (big isnt everything) it's expensive (a waste of 200 millions dollars).....man we nêed high quality architecture not chêesy ones....Chùa Một Cột is small but it is a unique design...its not a incoincident that it is an instant recognizible image of Hanoi or Vietnam
versalvin February 1st, 2006, 12:30 AM wait never mind...IT IS a AMUSEMENT PARK..for the complex will eventually includes
"Các hạng mục tiếp theo sẽ là Vịnh Hạ Long thu nhỏ với diện tích mặt biển 18 hecta; sông Cửu Long thu nhỏ; cùng với sự tái hiện các kỳ quan thế giới như tháp Eiffel, điện Kremlin, Vạn lư trường thành, đền Angkor… "
then you cant call and take this project seriously as a 'cultural place' as the article states..
danangboy February 1st, 2006, 12:48 AM is it bigger than the forbidian city in china ?????????????/
another_viet February 1st, 2006, 12:57 AM ITS MASSIVE, CRAZY!!!! wow
how far is binh duong from saigon?
is the temple dedicated to king hung or something?
yeh the fake mountains r kinda corny
Pho-sure February 1st, 2006, 12:57 AM Well the primary purpose is to make a profit, not building a white elephant cultural icon. I think this project is great, paving way for future improvements and hopefully an authentic recreation of ancient Vietnam's daily life, like Korea's cultural park.
This is more like light family entertainment with a twist of culture.
I'm not complaining. At least there'll be somewhere else to go when I visit Vietnam in 2-3 years instead of just Suoi Tien and Dam Sen. Suoi Tien was horrible though.
BTW, the guy who's building this complex is a native of Binh Dinh, the home of Tay Son and the legendary Emperor Quang Trung Nguyen Hue.
another_viet February 1st, 2006, 01:01 AM OMG it's so beautiful. I love it. I've always been jealous of the Chinese for recreating big-a$$ magnificent structures and able to afford all those restoration works.
Let's hope the Purple Forbidden City will have its damaged walls and buildings be restored or reconstructed as well.
now that u mention the purple forbidden city.... wut we see is only half of wuts left, its all the could restore. the rest has become rice paddies.i hope they could rebuild some buildings, accurately
Pho-sure February 1st, 2006, 01:04 AM Yes I've been to the FPC last year. It was so sad to see much of the complex was in ruins, with less than half still standing and even fewer in good condition. What could be restored should be restored, what has been totally destroyed should be build true to their original design.
Saigoneseguy February 1st, 2006, 01:26 AM ^^ It is very difficult to restore the destroyed buildings in Hue....barely any documents left. but the essential parts are still standing. I've been in Hue like last 2 years and it was very nice.
Still, the huge-ass pagoda thinggie is unbelievable..i said, this guy is haunted by Hong Kong Kiem Hiep movies....it seems lke u guys like it, nvm.
Btw, Binh Duong (Song Be) is about 8 miles from Saigon, not too far in the North but it's not Saigon's suburb.
sqd February 1st, 2006, 04:05 AM What a project, instead of putting $200 millions to develope our own culture like inventing our own indeginous archituretural style, these people are spending money to preserve foreign-influenced (chinese in this case) architectural style in our culture.
Trân February 4th, 2006, 10:26 AM :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: This ...er... 'thing' is like just being teleported from nowhere to....nowhere. :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

You mean Hoang Thanh of Thang Long? because there are many pictures taken of the palace before the war, and there are tons of sources about it.
coolink February 4th, 2006, 01:08 PM no
danangboy February 4th, 2006, 06:52 PM actually if you lookk carefully they imitate exactly what were found during the excavation in Hanoi. the roof shingles, dragons on the roofs and stair way marble carving are of Ly's dynasty and no other.
The support beams are of VN architecture not Chinese
you 100 % right look at the roof of vietnam and china it have it diff we hav dragon and they dont
loureed February 8th, 2006, 01:32 AM It would be acceptable imo without the dragon.
Pho-sure February 8th, 2006, 05:17 AM Dragons has always been included in Vietnamese roof architecture historically.
versalvin February 8th, 2006, 06:07 AM i think he talks about the massive green dragon one
Trân February 11th, 2006, 10:16 AM It looks more like Hue (which is a copy of the forbidden city in Peking) than traditional VNmese building:
traditional tiles are flat with a sharp tip like oldstyle shoes (ngói hài). And traditional roofs have more incurved tip.
Most importantly, Vietnamese traditional buildings never have green ceramic tiles.
coolink February 11th, 2006, 11:19 AM no
Pho-sure February 11th, 2006, 11:35 AM I've seen green roofs in many traditional Vietnamese buildings. One that I still remember is the Vietnamese cultural house in Sydney.

This type was also used on many northern pagodas, since they were built by
Ly Dynasty's kings.
Pho-sure February 11th, 2006, 09:53 PM That is the type of tile used in roofing the Forbidden Purple City's buildings.

I don't think so , because the Ly's pagodas I visited have roof covered with flat tiles. Once again, I've never seen an old Vnmese building with green bamboo tiles excepting the Imperail Palace in Huê' ( which is undoudtfully designed according to Chinese rules)
lovesaigon April 8th, 2006, 03:58 PM Yesterday, I had a chance to get there.
To me, I don't like this much. But the interior design of Dai Nam Quoc Tu is unbelievable. The ceiling is very tall, about 25 - 30 metres. I had never been in a lobby with the ceiling so tall like that.
And here 're the pics.

and goldplated the statues on the cityhall and opera house they will look so nice just like in Paris
CongTuSaiGon April 13th, 2007, 01:44 PM Travelling along Highway 13, passing district Thu Dau Mot of Binh Duong province, rising from the middle of the ride paddies a five peak mountain range. Asking the locals, everybody you tell you that the Five Elements mountain has just been built from the ground. Coming to the park you'll not only see an artificial mountain range but a series of cultural monuments in the making.
Since 2001, three thousand workers has been working relentlessly on a project spanning hundreds of hectares. It is not boastful to say that Dai Nam cultural park is "the project of the century" of Binh Duong.
The owner of the project says that by the end of 2007, phase 1 of the project will be completed. On 02/09/2005, the Five-Element mountains made of concrete were opened, spanning 250 metres in length, 65 metres in height and is the biggest artificial mountain project in Vietnam.
Rising out of the Five-Element mountains is a 9 storey pagoda called Bao Thap (Tower of Precious). Each level is a place of worship: one for Ho Chi Minh, for the unknown soldiers who has fallen for the motherland, for the 18 legendary Hung kings, for the female warriors etc.
South of Five-Element mountain is the Great South National Temple with curved roof based on the architecture of the Ly Dynasty (1010-1225AD) coated in green and yellow, representing the harmonisation of the heaven and the earth, create a vivid feeling of the vasteness and the eternity of the motherland. The main hall is 5000m2 wide, worshipping Buddha, the Hung kings and Ho Chi Minh. Next to it is an alter worshipping the 300 clans of the Vietnamese people.
The owner of the project seems to enjoy making comparison. He stated that the Great South National Temple will be much bigger than the Hall of Supreme Harmony in Beijing's Forbidden City. The Temple's square will be 18 hectares, making it twice as big as the Tiananmen Square in Beijing. This square will host major cultural events of Binh Duong in the future.
Once Phase 2 is completed (scheduled in 2010), the total area of the park is 450 hectares. The upcoming projects will be a mini Ha Long bay of 18 hectares, a mini Mekong Delta, along with many architectural wonders around the world such as the Eiffel tower of France, the Kremlin of Russia, the Great Wall of China, Angkor Wat of Cambodia and the Pyramids of Egypt etc.
Other projects as part of the whole complex:
*A hotel complex running the length of the citadel wall with 5000 rooms (probably making it the longest hotel), with 1000 rooms build in the style of imperial palace rooms.
*An artificial beach
*A modern amusement park
*A fairyland park with 3 means of transport: walking, by small amusement vehicles and by canoe
*A wildlife park, safari style
*A mini Vietnam and a mini world
*Cultural village and culinary village
*A 3D and 4D cinema
*A fun park to learn about the country, history and people of Vietnam....
and here are the pictures of the park so far....

chinatown April 13th, 2007, 02:32 PM who r the couples in those pics?
tq April 13th, 2007, 02:42 PM hey there is already a thread about it...why u don't post it inside it there...but it looks cool anyway...:)
CongTuSaiGon April 17th, 2007, 01:40 AM I don't know who they are but they sure have gained exclusive access to the site.
Hopefully it'll be opened by 2008
nguyenamese April 17th, 2007, 02:24 AM citadel wall seems to be the most natural thing there, cus its gray.
its cool that it's an amusement park otherwise this stinks as a cultural place.
CongTuSaiGon April 17th, 2007, 03:21 AM Yeah I agree.
It just sounds so incredible and unbelievable that the wall would be 13km long.
Saigoneseguy April 17th, 2007, 04:40 AM That's just baffling, who's gonna pay to live in a mural giant hotel?
Search for Pennemunde in Rugen island, Germany: world's longest building built by the Nazis, now world longest hotel ruin.
nguyenamese April 17th, 2007, 09:51 PM http://www.tuoitre.com.vn/tianyon/ImageView.aspx?ImageID=179641
is that an american flag? i hope it's only a render and it wont really be on the actual tower. It should be one of the Nguyen's flag because the wall looks like the one in Hue.
coolink April 17th, 2007, 11:08 PM i will pay to stay in there......will run naked at night in that park
looking at these pics......I don't care what they're building......because they satisfied by thirst for big grand buildings and monuments.
I am very positive all those dynaties. Hung, Tran, Ly, Le had big big grand buildings and palaces.........what they're doing now is putting back the missing puzzles.....we don't have an acurrate portrait of the past....but we deffinitely can rebuild them and maybe blow them out of proportion.
this is what I'm talking about...think big...dream big....dream of the impossible......have no fear of anything too big or too large.
I had in mind of building this kind od park for long long time...but since they're doing I don't have to anymore.
but what bothers me is Dam Sen and Suoitien parks....I think they should close those 2 parks and move all the monuments and building here and create this humongous asian disneyland theme.......not just 400hectare but 500 or 1000.........you know be the center of asia.
Saigoneseguy April 17th, 2007, 11:08 PM It looks like got straight from Vo lam Tuyen ky. Anyway, why ppl r discussing so much to this 'minor' project?
coolink April 17th, 2007, 11:14 PM after this i hope they will build a theme park of old hanoi, saigon, hue, danang, vungtau, nhatrang during the French colonial times........with complete accurate historical buildings
....the only mode of transportation in the park will be electric tramway, horse carriages, ricksaw, bicycle.......and street after street of tree-line boulevard.......where you can hold your lovers' hands and walk under the shade of trees.
a place where you can relax and shoot historical movies..
wulizhong April 18th, 2007, 02:44 AM Hey! After 20 year it's will look better when it's old! We can see some mark of time!
Now I hate fresh and bright paint for a Cultural Structure like this!
danangboy April 18th, 2007, 04:32 AM i hav a dream to rebuild hue forbibean city and make it look like the model before the war and make it modern city with all the technology to this forbibean city like under ground military, missle in the wall.

CongTuSaiGon April 18th, 2007, 06:13 AM Lovesaigon's photos just give a better idea of how the whole complex looks and I think it's amazing.
Are they open to visitors already?

But overall, this is a great project. Hope they'd be constructed with high quality.
vkameleon April 18th, 2007, 06:50 PM it's way too tacky.
coolink April 19th, 2007, 11:49 PM I think they should build more vietnamese grand, big buildings rather than imitate world structures......that kind of miniature park can be found anywhere around the world........build something that nobody hhas........
and try to compete with the forbidden city of china.......that's a smart thing...because 100 years from now when the real fobidden city collapses.....this park still survive and by then it will be an ancient masterpiece

CongTuSaiGon July 3rd, 2007, 04:37 AM I like the look of this park so far. Very grand and capital intensive.
coolink July 4th, 2007, 03:37 AM still I prefer them sticking to 1 theme.......if it's a zoo let it be a zoo......if it's a themepark let it be theme park
just like Dam Sen and Suoi tien some of it tend to be similar.....if suoi tien stick to the asian Vietnamese theme, then damsen should do the same instead they should focus on western theme...that's the best
