Actually the first three tallest buildings in Latin America are going to be in Panama:

Ice Tower 381 mts.
Los Faros de Panama 346 mts.
Torres Planetarium 346 mts.

And we are waiting the official height for Palacio de la Bahia and Megapolis Tower #2, they are expected to be over 300 mts. as well.

Dr Drums
April 23rd, 2007, 12:50 AM
^^ that´s right, and there are rumors that the Megapolis # 2 tower will be above 425m tall, but that´s not official so we have to wait for the official height to come out.

Don´t worry the project "Los Faros de Panamá" is going well as expected, as you can see in the pics, and about planetarium, promoters are still merchandising the building, a model appartment was build on the site to receive future buyiers (view the interiors. etc), it seems they are taking all the time so that they don´t suffer the same fate as the Ice Tower did.

You mean 3 out of 150? I wouldn't call that a few others.

Please go and check the Panamanian forum and you will see several construction updates.

At Planetarium Towers they are building the salesoffice and model appartment which will be a part of the tower's base.

i depreciate this tower, the reason:

the height added by the triangular spire in the top of the building.

is mmm, unacceptable for me.

this is my poor opinion, i hope that don't insult my commentary.

The central tower without the spire is 315 mts, for me still tall enough.

BUILDING PROGRESS

Second phase of excavation:
Rock blasting has begun in the areas where the main footing of the three towers will later be built.
To date, 74,000m3 of clay, 21,000m3 of weathered rock and 5,000m3 of bedrock have been excavated, which represents 67% of the total excavation work due to be carried out in the second phase.
The expected finish date for the second phase of excavation is the end of November 2007.

Foundations, (conventional) perimeter walls, underground networks and waterproofing works:
The next tasks to be carried out include the laying of the foundations, the building of the conventional perimeter walls of the podium building, the laying of underground networks and the waterproofing works.
It is estimated that approximately 70,000m3 of cement will be needed to complete this phase. The contract for this job has been awarded to the company ICA.

Exactly, that´s one of the main reasons the demand is so high right now, also lots of Rich Venezuelans are coming to the country running from Chávez government and are buying a great amount of this properties, many South Americans, also Europeans and Canadians are buying, so this is a phenomenom without precedents in Panama, that´s going to be very positive at a long term for the nations economy. actually is showing up with more than 9% economy growth this year, and is expected above 10% in the coming years.

LOS FAROS DE PANAMÁ: PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS

Using solar energy, they will be found on the roofing of the towers and will be connected to the electrical current consumed in the general public area. The panels, modules or solar collectors are formed by semi conductive distributors, diode type, that as they receive solar radiation electronic energy is produced generating a slight difference in it’s energy level at it’s extremes. Using a series of these photo-diodes enables us to obtain higher voltage in very simple configurations which can feed small electronic distributors.

On a mayor scale, the continuous electrical current that these solar panels produce can be transformed into alternative current and incorporated into the general current, very beneficial economically but which still needs subsidies for enhanced viability. In certain environments where little electrical power is needed and the access to electrical current is difficult, like meteorological or communication stations, solar panels are used as a viable economical alternative.

BUILDING PROGRESS( LOS FAROS DE PANAMA)

Retaining Walls

RODIO has spent this month carrying out repairs as per the list of exceptions provided by PROINTEC.

Second Phase of Excavation

Clay, weathered rock and bedrock continue to be excavated this month. The area has been perforated explosions were carried out in order to remove rock. The land upon which the towers will be built still contains residual water and is also being dried out. Once the water has been removed, it will be cleaned of sediments in order to leave the land completely clear.

To date 85,372.25 m3 of clay, 42,332.33 m3 of weathered rock and 18,198.37 m3 of bedrock have been excavated, representing 97.92% of the total excavation work due to be carried out in the second phase of excavation.

Foundations, (conventional) perimeter walls, underground networks and waterproofing works

The contract with the Mexican construction company ICA (Associated Civil Engineers) for the construction of the foundations, the retaining walls in the back podium area, the underground networks and waterproofing works, which are to be completed in a 6-month period, has been formalised.

The works are forecast to begin mid-December, once the excavation works have been finalised. At the end of November, ICA Panama received the approved foundation plans (approval for the foundation plans). The next step will be to request the building permit in order to commence the works as soon as possible.

I think that means that we will see the construction of the above ground floors during July or August of this year, after the fundations and all the underground work is done.

The first part consisted on dragging, impermeabilization and building perimetral walls all around the terrain as you can see in the pic, this is not an easy task for such a massive complex (you can see how big is the area), right now they are starting the second phase that for what I understand you think is the first one, that consist in the building itself, I hope this clears any doubt about the phases of a project.
We will see plenty of machines working on this terrain in a few days

BUILDING PROGRESS

Retaining Walls
RODIO carried out repair work as per the list provided by PROINTEC. All remaining work was completed by the end of December and the final inspection was carried on 26 December 2007. The works were approved by PROINTEC.

Second Phase of Excavation
The excavation works continued during this month, specifically in T2 where backhoe hammers, shovels and trucks were used to reach the specified levels. In T1, the service pit, with a depth of 6.82 metres, was excavated.
To date 86,614.47 m3 of clay, 44,539.43 m3 of weathered rock and 29,979.84m3 of bedrock have been excavated, representing 108.14% of the total excavation work due to be carried out in the second phase of excavation.

By the beginning of next month, the site will be set out, during which time the plot must be handed over to ICA in perfect condition in order to begin the foundation works. The area surrounding the three towers must be levelled off to -4.82 metres and the podium, which must be completely free of excess material, to 2.23 metres. Furthermore, the company CEPSA will have to remove the work hut from the site before finishing up.

Water is still being extracted from T1 and T2 – a total of five pumps are being used for this purpose. The tractor is used to remove the sediment in these towers.

Foundations, (conventional) perimeter walls, underground networks and waterproofing works.

ICA is beginning the laying of the foundations with a series of preliminary works that include topographic surveying, carried out by its topographers, and the construction of the work hut which will have clay block walls, concrete flag floors and zinc and C-joist roofs.
Furthermore, the architect Humberto Echeverría is making the final adjustments to the design of the show flat so that ICA can begin construction work as soon as possible.

It is because the "Mall Group", owner of this project in Panama has recently announced a project called "Faros de Chile" in Santiago, that looks pretty similar to this project. It is Today just a beggining proposal, there are no architectural project, no place where to build it, no structural studies... 'till now.
