In the project for this office tower, the possibility of a panoramic view over the city was desired, which means that glass is predominant in the facade. In the context of American skyscrapers, especially attractive in Chicago, thought was given to the need to reestablish a dialogue between the classicism of stone (white granite) and the high technology of glass. The facade presents a design of classical proportions with divisions on several levels, united among themselves by columns. The upper part, in the form of a pediment which stands out against the sky, is the distinctive sign of the building in the skyline of Chicago.

Just got back from a short trip to CHI... put my hand on that building to assure myself it was real.

It features in my two best Chicago photos... Big John from the Sears, and Sears from Big John.

the Donnelly Building was built in 1992, the architect is Ricardo Bofill, who also designed Bank One Corporate Center in Chicago

this one is awesome. when you see it from the river it fits in really well with the surrounding scrapers, 10

Well, this archtect had got its own style...I like it a bit but not that much...A really small version of this building you can, for example, find in The Hague/Den Haag here in the Netherlands...

The glass and color are beautiful, but once you look pass that you get a building that is way out of proportion, and that looks much shorter than it actually is. I too, am wowed by the first impression of the building, but in detail it is rather plain.

this facade is stunning!

The biulding as a whole has great unity, and looks great along the Chicago River. I love the facade, and if you have ever been in the lobby you would see that it is amazing inside. 9/10

Very pretty tower. I happen to like the roof and color- very noticeable in aerials. Love the mixed facade and its location on the river. Beautiful!

Yeah, I agree with ^, this looks like a failed attempt to recreate the AT&T building excitment ... I think this is a good example of a tranistory period in American architecture and how it can easily go bust...during the 80s we were much more Rohe-esque, then with AT&T's subtly attempt to introduce more elaborate architectural styles to skyscrapers, more and more post-modern styles popped up...this one however is a brutal attempt at such incorporation of the asthetics of post-modernism while style trying to please the internationalists

Stunning facade ... a wonderful combination of glass and stone which creates some lovely patterns.

The top is a little disappointing but overall this would have to rank as one of Chicago's best skyscrapers.

I walk by this beauty almost everyday and still strain my neck staring at it.

A lot of the new buildings in the South Loop have similar aspects of the design.
