The streets actually aren't particularly clean... SF has one of the biggest homeless problems in the U.S. But in any case, the streets are quite alive and bustling like any other major city throughout the world.

The city proper actually isn't too large, only about 800,000 live in San Francisco. The metropolitan area - including all its suburbs - totals about 7 million people including San Jose and Oakland.

San Francisco is great in photos, but even greater in person...the sounds and smells are terrific (please, no sarcasm)...

I am a native of the 2nd best city of the west coast, (Seattle, yes IMHO), but S.F. is the winner. I concede!

there are some intersting grand old buildings in downtown

however there few modern buildings around ie post 2000 ?

I like very much of the first pic...Those beautiful houses in contrast with the buildings are just perfect!

It's really true...streets clean are very important, but even it isn't easy to keep them cleaned...I think that any city around the world suffer with that problem...

But in anyway, it seems SF is very agreeable to live in...

Cool, nice shots! I liked your pics of ocean beach alot. Those pics of murals are in the Mission District though, not the Castro.

Nice photos of a positively overexposed, overhyped city. The downtown street scenes remind me of Philly and Boston a bit. I am not a fan of the Transamerica Tower or Fisherman's Wharf or the temperature of the Pacific. I am a fan of San Francisco's density, geography and scale.

I'm so glad there are no shots of Lombard Street or Alamo Square. Kudos to you for not capturing the painfully obvious.

Can we have more please?
