Plumber73 April 18th, 2007, 05:43 AM Wasn't that a leftover from Expo 86, when they had that monorail? mr.x April 18th, 2007, 06:16 AM ^ yea, it is. when did they install SkyTrain rails onto the platform? lol a few weeks ago, there was this teenager and his girlfriend at Stadium Station......the guy was like "hey look, that's an old SkyTrain". So wrong....it was one of those track maintenance vehicles lol. retarded. emperorXIV April 18th, 2007, 10:10 AM the tracks at stadium are used as holding bay when events at stadium require extra trains. the monorail went nowhere near stadium station. spongeg April 18th, 2007, 11:16 PM there used to be an old entrance that came out by rickys restaurant - what ever happened to it? i remember using it than it got all sealed up nova9 April 19th, 2007, 02:26 AM ahh, so that answers my question about entrances and exits for this mysterious platform - vancouver's very own platform 7 3/4. oops, wrong forum, totally thought this was the harry potter one. dchengg April 19th, 2007, 05:08 AM what i heard before was, before they had this monorail during the expo period that ran through false creek and to sciecne world, and the terminus would be there to travel back and forth?.. i duno but we dont use that sidem uch anyway.. emperorXIV April 19th, 2007, 05:09 AM the stairwell is covered in cement blocks, was shut down as it was often used as a bathroom by some of the locals (druggies) emperorXIV April 19th, 2007, 05:12 AM the sideing was originally the demonstration platform that would take passengers from expo grounds to canada place prior to the opening of the expo line. ssiguy2 April 19th, 2007, 07:11 AM Stadium and Waterfront are my favoite stations in the system with Granville being the worst. emperorXIV April 19th, 2007, 07:14 AM brentwood geys my vote officedweller April 19th, 2007, 11:18 PM the sideing was originally the demonstration platform that would take passengers from expo grounds to canada place prior to the opening of the expo line. That's right. During Expo 86, shuttle trains taking fairgoers to Canada Place stopped at the 3rd platform. That allowed revenue service to continue uninterrupted at the two regular platforms. The trains were interlined with revenue trains - Canada Place trains would head eastbound to the switches just before the dip in the tracks, then reverse and head to Canada Place (Waterfront Station). At Waterfront Station, a temporary chain link fence ran down the middle of the platform, and the north platform was solely for the shuttle trains, while the south platform was for revenue service. Fairgoers exited the station through the west entrance near Canada Place and sidewalk there was fenced off and was "within" the Expo fairgrounds. At Stadium Station, the monorail station was on the other (south) side of the 3rd platform, allowing easy connections to the Canada Place shuttle. dchengg April 20th, 2007, 05:42 AM i always keep in mind about the "swing" before reaching stadium from main street station its sometimes funny to see how people act cool and not hold one, then get swung against the doors haah Nutterbug April 20th, 2007, 05:11 PM That's right. I'm glad to see somebody else is old enough to remember these things. Do they still have any use for it though? When was the last time it has been put to use? emperorXIV April 20th, 2007, 06:10 PM good question would also like to know what happened to the monorail? Nutterbug April 20th, 2007, 06:22 PM good question would also like to know what happened to the monorail? That's been taken down shortly after Expo ended. Good riddance to it too. That thing broke down so many times. officedweller April 20th, 2007, 11:23 PM Do they still have any use for it though? When was the last time it has been put to use? Not sure how often they use the third platform - any GM Place/BC Place goers out there? (I walk home if lucky enough to attend an event) good question would also like to know what happened to the monorail? It's now at a theme park in England - Alton Towers: http://www.monorails.org/tMspages/Alton.html http://www.monorails.org/webpix/Alton.jpg http://www.towerstimes.co.uk/rides/transport/monorail.htm dchengg April 22nd, 2007, 03:13 AM Anyone know why there is another platform at Stadium station on the other side?
