View Full Version : The colour red in public city life.
eusebius April 22nd, 2007, 04:22 AM Seeing red. Says it all. Red is not a good colour to feature prominently in public spaces.
All boxy red letterboxes in the NL are to be replaced by rounded off orange letterboxes. And this measure is expected to cut aggression and vandalism.
The colour red is the least appreciated colour, as was recently mentioned in a survey of how visitors value the colours on webpages.
So, would the city, a city, be a better place without the colour red?
Geokioy April 22nd, 2007, 07:52 PM Oh man what a thread is that....?

I don't think so, I love red colour :bash:
And, by the way, do you suggest to replace red roofs on houses by what?!

The Dutch postcompany has changed its name from TPG (red colour) into TNT(orange colour). Because of this there will be new letterboxes being placed in the streets. It certainly has nothing to do with cutting aggression and vandalism.
cardiff April 25th, 2007, 12:35 AM British post boxes are red and so are London busses, i dont think they create agresion
beaujoe April 25th, 2007, 01:27 AM If you want my opinion, this is a case of comparing apples to circuit boards. I see virtually no relation.
gladisimo April 25th, 2007, 02:20 AM Bright red doesn't look good if there's too much of it, and its in a city.
Bright red looks great on a ferrari, though
aussiescraperman April 25th, 2007, 03:50 AM red is supposed to make you hungry, along with yellow..hence mcdonalds and burgerking.

You are misinformed as the issue is exactly as I desrcibed it; red challenges aggression. Results are coming in already. In my neighbourhood, the letter boxes were replaced already about 2 years ago.
hkskyline April 25th, 2007, 06:40 AM The red London double decker buses look very nice, and provide a good contrast to the buildings and streetscapes. I wish Hong Kong still have those red post boxes. The green ones nowadays are quite hideous.

I know that red can challenge aggression but this certainly has nothing to do with the colour orange of TNT. In another meaning TNT can be used for aggression as well.
