Tampa Bay Business Journal - 12:22 PM EDT Monday, April 23, 2007
Business is still hot in Tampa Bay, according to the latest report by Inc. Magazine.
The magazine's 2007 ranking of the "Hottest Places to do Business" is featured in its May edition.
Tampa Bay ranked No. 11 in the large city category and 71st overall, compared with ninth and 64th for the same categories last year. Tampa Bay had a 2.3 percent rise in non-farm jobs for the year.
Florida had 18 cities ranked in the top 100, including Fort Lauderdale at No. 3, Orlando at No. 4 and West Palm Beach at No. 6.
Business services, leisure and retail are the top business segments in Tampa Bay.
Inc.'s ranking of the hottest business 393 metro areas in the United States was compiled by Michael A. Shires, professor of public policy at Pepperdine University and puts the focus on job growth, which suggests that a region's economy is expanding resulting in new demand and new opportunities, a release said.
