Government transfers funds for Lviv airport and Kharkiv airport and stadium

http://www.kyivpost.com/data/thumbs/262/197/P/iblock/articles/54380/41.gif
Lviv airport

The government of Ukraine has transferred UAH 28.8 million for the construction of Lviv airport, UAH 20 million for the construction of Kharkiv stadium and UAH 8 million for Kharkiv airport, Vice Premier Ivan Vasiunyk has reported, commenting on the city mayors' statements on problems with financing certain objects.

"All these funds are part of the planned financing. I've never said there are no financing problems. I always said that the government's priority task amid the crisis [and I heard the same thing from Polish Sports and Tourism Minister Adam Giersz at our meeting] is the stable financing of priority objects," Vasiunyk said.

"The project is being publicly realized. And that is the position of the Lviv mayor and the Kharkiv mayor when they are saying they need additional funds. You can be assured that [their need] has been satisfied. They wanted to get the money that the government was planning to transfer a few days earlier," the vice premier said.

Okay, it is not the most beautiful stadium in the world. I admit it. But the fact of the matter is, it does not really matter. It's aesthetic appearance will not play a factor for the UEFA to decide which stadiums will host the Euro or not.

What would you like to hear? I can go on and say how Poland receives billions of euros from the EU to fund its infrastructure projects, whereas Ukraine funds mostly all of its projects through the state and local budgets. Investors fund some of the projects, like stadiums in Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kharkiv. Stadiums in Kyiv and Lviv are funded by local and state budgets. The hotels are also being constructed by private investors. The rest of the infrastructure projects like roads and public transport is funded through the government and local budgets. You can probably guess how much of this government money is stolen or misused. Private investors won't put their money in the country because of the future political risks (elections).

So what are you trying to argue exactly? That Poland receives better funding for projects than Ukraine? Probably the answer is yes. Given the current economic and political situation, however, I think we are doing alright, and it's not really the end of the world if some cities lose the right to host Euro...

*Rant*

This is kind of getting embarrassing guys...everywhere I look, in the other stadium threads too all I see is Ukraine bashing from a limited group of Poles. It makes us look very primitive when other people read these threads and this is all they see of us....I mean what would you like the Ukrainians to do about their situation? Imagine if we were in difficult economic/political turmoil such as Ukraine and we would have to hear all of this bashing.... In the end we want the Euro 2012 to be a success and for this to happen both countries will have to work together because I can guarantee people will look at the end result as a combined effort.

*End of Rant*

As for the Metallist stadium, I kind of like it, the stadium definitely has a unique character of its own and the exterior facade is definitely nothing to be ashamed of!

Personally, I would understand bashing of Ukraine if there was a reason.
But the situation being as it is - with practically half of stadiums in Ukraine already complete and none so far in Poland, with existing metro systems in all of Ukraine's host cities & only one in Poland (Warsaw) ... who with a slight hint of sanity would have a reason to bash Ukraine?

As for nice pics of hotels & motorways in Poland that people post - these things are good to look at but hardly necessary for the World Cup. Real football fans will sleep outside in tents if needed. And few people will be using motorways - its the airports & railway system you should be concerned about.

jacek_nl
December 9th, 2009, 01:28 PM
First of all, not World Cup but Euro 2012. Second, what do you mean by 'real football fans'? So those who sleep in hotels are not real football fans? Third, there will be a significant number of fans using motorways, especially those from neighbouring countries such as Germany or Czech Republic. Fourth, yes you are right, airports and railway systems are important and there are serious concerns about it in Ukraine, as they are in a rather disastrous state (especially railways).

Someone mentioned earlier that those who criticize Ukrainians for lack of progress cannot justify their concerns because Ukraine does not receive any support from EU and Poland does. I get the point, but - in my view - the major problem there is poor management (or rather lack of it), endemic, ubiquitous corruption and permanent inability of Ukrainian politicians to come to any sort of agreement on anything (including EURO). Money problems are secondary and are a result of all the former.

I said this few times on this forum and I will repeat another time,
The easiest to prepare and cheapest thing for Euro 2012 are stadiums.
Stadiums will cost only 4% of the total costs , roads that`s the real
chalange , they are most expensive and very important , how will people
get to Wroclaw stadium without A8 motorway , stay half of day
in traffic jam in Wroclaw ?

Have you ever been to fotball match that were only 10 000 people ?
did you see that number of cars ?
I was last week on Zaglebie - Legia match in Lubin - only 9 000 people
but it took me 1 hour get from that small town there to stadium by car and another hour to get off back to the town.
Have you ever seen roads in Wroclaw at 8 o`clock morning ?

There are 78 distinct promotional initiatives in Poland focused on using EURO2012 to improve knowledge and image of Poland abroad. Full blown media campaign will start at the of 2010.

Because grass has to entrench. Now the weather is not bad, so they have chosen to make it now, whereas there could be much worse weather in February and they wouldn't be able to cover the ground by grass, which could also influence on Lech apperance in the next round.

Topic:
4+4 is a good news :) I was expecting that, but only thing I am worry about is Lviv stadium. I was personally there, during summer holidays, and the security guy told me, that number of workers does not pass 50 people ;/ I still look at the progress at this stadium, and it doesn't satisfy me. Lwów is a great city, the best for 'before/after-matches' activities in Ukraine, but they have also start working hard, or Uefa change her mind.

EURO 2012 logo ready for launch

The world will get a first look at the official logo for UEFA EURO 2012™ in Poland and Ukraine on Monday when the design is formally unwrapped at a ceremony in Kyiv's Mykhailivska Square from 12.15CET.

Wrapped and ready
The giant logo will be literally under wraps in the square over the weekend, having been lovingly gift-wrapped in anticipation of the official launch on Monday. The event will also witness the first public outing of the slogan that has been chosen for the competition; for UEFA EURO 2008™ in Austria and Switzerland it was the memorable 'Expect Emotions'.

Honoured guests
UEFA President Michel Platini will attend the ceremony along with Polish Football Association President Grzegorz Lato, his Football Federation of Ukraine counterpart Grigoriy Surkis and representatives from the eight host cities: Gdansk, Warsaw, Poznan, Wroclaw, Lviv, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Kyiv. The launch proceedings will be followed by a news conference at the nearby Intercontinental Hotel.

Visual identity
The purpose of the logo is to give UEFA EURO 2012™ a distinct personality of its own, and the accompanying visual identity combined with the logo will be applied across a wide range of promotional applications from tickets to web banners. The objective is to help promote the tournament as one of the world's biggest sporting events – by providing an easily recognisable identity inspired by the cultural reference of the Wycinanki pattern from both host nations.

OMG, why my country is full of megalomaniacs? How many complexes have people who are offending Ukraine? I have no doubts that there is a guilt of media. Polish newspapers and TV programs are full of informations about the poor situation of Ukraine. It's absurd that Poles think that Ukrainians don't know what is McDonald's, mobile phone and the Internet. What a shame! Let's remind where we were 10 years ago. We stamp when sb from western Europe call us "sluts" or "car thiefs". But we do this same!

We even don't know how close to us is Ukraine but we need to regard sb as a worse than we are...

The main conclusion of this topic is that maybe Ukraine wouldn't have as great infrastructure as Poland during the EURO (but I'm not sure about it), but they will have sth what is more important - PEOPLE. People who are not as rude as Poles, and who enjoy even not beautiful but built stadium. Most of Us is only criticising.

PS. TVP (Polish TV) announced that they will uncover few details of logo in "Sportowa Niedziela" - TVP Info - 23:00 (now).

Unfortunetely, I'm not colorizing informations. I had visited Ukraine during last holidays, and when my friends saw photos from Kiev, they were really impressed by McDonald's. It's terrible but true. I know that it is only a part of Poles thinking in this way, but it is unpleasant.

Please, don't be angry with me. My criticism is not for people who are knowingly reporting from Poland and discussing about EURO 2012 in this subject, but for these who are only trolling here and offending Ukraine.

BTW, Adam Olkowicz said sth about the logo. It will be colourfull, with domination of national colours and colours of UEFA (?). Probably it will have connection with the folk tradiiton. Asked about "wycinanki", he smiled ;-).

In my oppinion "wycinanki" logo isnt a good idea... Its hard to identify with it. I think the best are logos with animals, for example - eagle and stork or something like this - in this particular situation. (symbols of countries that organize E2012) Then its good from marketing ponint of view - you can sell mascotes, teddybears etc., streets are full of big mascotes to take a photo with... And birds can be shown in very funny and charming way... everybody knows what its about. And "wycinanki"? What to do with that? Any ideas?

IMO the logo isn't bad, but it could be better, indeed.
What is it reffering to?
For example: Austria's and Switzerland's logo contained the mountains look and it was a reference to their landscape.

Then what is our logo reffering to? The Land? :ohno:

The next matter is colours of our flag. They are upside down.

Beautiful logo!

It's positive and it reflects Slavic culture (folk ornaments, paintings, embroidery).

It's FIFA's recent policy to make such cartoonish, positive logos. If you don't believe check out the last four logos of World Cups and Euro's:

I just don't really take it serious, just don't care for those who have something against a person's expressed own opinion! You, guys (@ few polish offensive users), should better not leech at the form I'm talking but the positive I convey! ;)

Must admit, the logo is good enough, it stresses these countries' Slavic routes and shows a hopeful man stretching his arms towards the sky, at least that makes a nice impression! :)

UEFA's logos are far better than the crap FIFA comes up with. I particularly hate the fact that all FIFA logos (U20, U17 world cups etc) have that same shitty corporate identity logo "frame".

yeah, that's true concerning the reference, but regarding Poland and the Ukraine it's pretty tough to find something that we have in common and would be easy to present, besides the origin/ethnicity.
would a bottle of vodka be a better solution for a logo ?

that's why I think the logo is ok. nothing special, but it sstill looks nice. the real struggle will be about the mascot - I'm waiting for your propositions :D

and finally - the way our national colours are presented is not a problem for me, if we speak about their order. it depends on your point of view - e.g. the colour of the German apparel during the world cup in the US in '94 sometimes was green (as far as I remember, or was it in '96 in the UK?), which had nothing to do with their national flag.

The logo is beautiful. I knew it was going to be a flower :)

The official logo, visual identity and slogan for UEFA EURO 2012™ have been unveiled at a special event in Kyiv's Mykhailivska Square with co-hosts Ukraine and Poland looking forward to 'Creating History Together'.

Star guests
Polish Football Association President Grzegorz Lato, his Football Federation of Ukraine counterpart Grigoriy Surkis and UEFA President Michel Platini officially unwrapped the logo as the highlight of the launch proceedings. The ceremony was attended by the President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, representatives from the eight host cities – Gdansk, Warsaw, Poznan, Wroclaw, Lviv, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Kyiv – and numerous other dignitaries.

Visual identity
The purpose of the logo is to give UEFA EURO 2012™ a personality of its own, with the visual identity to be applied across a range of promotional applications from tickets to web banners. The objective is to help promote the tournament – one of the world's biggest sporting events – by providing an easily recognisable identity with a flavour of the host nations. The logo takes its visual lead from 'wycinanka', the traditional art of paper cutting practised in rural areas of Poland and Ukraine, as a tribute to the fauna and flora of the region.

EURO bloom
The 'bloom' logo has a flower representing each of the co-host nations and a central ball symbolising the emotion and passion of the competition, while the stem denotes the structural aspect of the competition, UEFA and European football. Nature has inspired other features of the visual identity, with woodland green, sun yellow, aqua blue, sky blue and blackberry purple being the crucial tones of the palette of colours to figure in official tournament branding.

Uniting ethos
The event slogan, meanwhile, is 'Creating History Together'. The staging of the UEFA European Championship finals in Poland and Ukraine, a first for Central and Eastern Europe, will have a place in the history books, with everyone involved in UEFA EURO 2012™ – organisers, host countries, host cities, players and fans – contributing to another exciting chapter of European football.

The way the colors of the flags are represented is perfectly fine imo. They sort of move from the inside to the outside, which you can see on many roundels:

And here's a small article about a new trams in polish cities:

Rekordowa liczba nowoczesnych tramwajów wjeżdża do naszych miast

Według "GW" do Euro 2012 w polskich metropoliach przybędzie kilkaset nowoczesnych niskopodłogowych tramwajów.

Several weeks ago we were talking about the biggest intersection in Europe in Sośnica-Gliwice (~200mln E). Now it is partly opened with 15km A1 motorway (~240mln E). Another parts of A1 in Silesian region are being built and will be finished before 2012.
But there are 2 problems:
1. Czech Republic delays their part of A1 motorway
2. Alpine Bau (Austrian company) lost their contract (about 250 mln Euro) of one part of A1 motorway. They started in 2007 and the deadline is in January 2010. It is impossible to catch up a schedule because currently only 50% is builded. In April a new tender to finish their job will be announced. Hope, they will do their job better in Warszawa and Gdańsk.I remind that they are building stadiums in these cities

Another ten kilometers of the Kyiv-Moscow highway renovated

http://www.kyivpost.com/data/thumbs/262/197/P/iblock/articles/55980/32.jpg

A section of the highway between Kyiv and Moscow has been commissioned in Sumy province in the framework of the preparations for the Euro 2012 European football championship, Anatoliy Verbovyk, chief of the motor roads service in Sumy province has said.

According to him, ten kilometers of the road, running from Chernihiv province to the town of Krolevets, Sumy province, were commissioned on time and meet international standards.

The repairs of a 100-km section of the Kyiv-Moscow international highway connecting the towns of Kipti, Hlukhiv and Bachevsk in Sumy province started in 2007. A total of UAH 1 billion is to be assigned for the repairs from the state budget. This year UAH 62 million have been provided, most of which has already been spent.

Kyiv's architectural and town-planning council has approved and recommended proposals of a complex redevelopment of the Troitskly square in front of the Olympiysky National Sports Complex in Kyiv.

Kyiv's architectural and town-planning council has approved and recommended proposals of a complex redevelopment of the Troitskly square in front of the Olympiysky National Sports Complex in Kyiv taking into account all remarks at its sitting.

The main construction department of Kyiv City Administration ordered the project. According to the concept, there will be exits from the underground trade center, exit and entry roads from an underground parking area, as well as small pavilions with terraces with plants and fountains along the exit and entry roads to the underground area. The system of lights to highlight the square and the stadium, as well as information or video display in front of the Sport Hotel, is also foreseen by the concept.

Vasyl Prysiazhniuk, the chief architect of the Kyiv Planning and Architecture Center, proposed to place a big video display to broadcast Euro-2012 football matches.

Maybe I'll translate a part of it:
Ukrain public company "Ukrautodor" had built only 7.8 km in the past 11 months paying around 110 mln USD
"I'm surprised about this" writes dziennik. "The government promised to build 341,7 km of new roads in this year. Now we have 44 times less then the promise"
It can be easily count, that every km of those roads cost 14,3 mln USD.
Gurżos's men explained, that THEY THINK, that in 110 mln USD were also included the costs of other U/C roads that aren't finished yet
