I hope it will be better  Ulyssis January 13th, 2011, 05:49 PM OK since everyone is so tired of pictures of all the same stadiums and airports, here comes something new. You might remember that Odesa was one of the reserve cities for Euro-2012. The even started to build the stadium back in 2008. Than the works almost stoipped. Now they are back on track. The is a good chance that the stadium will be readyu by 2012 and might be used for training by some of the teams. The setting in a park overlooking Black Sea certainly does not hurt. http://fan.chernomorets.odessa.ua/forum/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=1161 http://fan.chernomorets.odessa.ua/forum/index.php?showtopic=956&st=40 Another interesting news: Wizz Air announced that they will change their base airport in Kyiv from Boryspil to Zhulyany. Now, this might sound like a routing switch, in fact it may be a dramatic change in Kyiv transportation. Zhulyany is a small regional airport, within city limits. It has been nearly shut down. Recently, the runway has been upgraded for A320 & B737. The terminal is still so horrible- it cannot really be called that. But now, if Wizz is not bluffing there is a real chance that the new terminal project will be completed by Euro: http://www.segodnya.ua/img/forall/a/141045/24.jpg delfin_pl January 13th, 2011, 06:35 PM Gdańsk http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/1563/gdanskaktualny1024.jpg J@nek January 14th, 2011, 04:12 AM Construction and modernization works at Warsaw's second airport (Modlin International) are in full swing. Here is a news report (only available in Polish, sorry to all non-Polish forumers). http://www.tvnwarszawa.pl/stolica,news,modlin-bez-stacji-kolejowej-zawsze-jest-plan-b,48700.html According to the report, works are in full swing, construction of the passenger terminal has begun, runway, taxiway and apron are being renovated and the airport will handle its first passengers in May 2012. One issue that may arise is the train station that is to be built 700 meters away from the passenger terminal. It may not be ready for the Euro, along with the train tracks leading to it. If this does occur, passengers will be bussed from the main Modlin train station to the terminal as railways service will be offered (trains have been already ordered and will be delivered by the end of this year). Lets hope that everything is ready, including the train station next to the terminal. :) J@nek January 14th, 2011, 08:24 AM Also, this coming weekend, a 10 km stretch of the S8 Expressway is to open in Warsaw. The expressway is considered to be part of Warsaw's northern bypass. The A2 Motorway, which initiates at the German border, is to intersect the S8 at Konotopa (Warsaw) in 2012, via Poznan and Lodz. At Konotopa, the A2 will split into the S8 (Warsaw's northern bypass) and the S2 (Warsaw's southern bypass). This 10 km S8 stretch, due to open this weekend, is part of the S8 Expressway (Via Baltica) which is to connect Warsaw with Vilnius in the near future. Wizzair will move on march to this so small airport: this airport facilities allows it ? Is it not too much all these huges expansions in Borispol + a new terminal in Zhulyany ? Do somebody can show the 2010 statistics of passenger numbers in Ukrainian airports ? Thanks. 1) No, the construction has not been started, even the tenders have not been conducted. However, the airport management appear confident that they will be done by spring 2012, and the project is not terribly complicated. http://www.avianews.com/ukraine/2011/january/17/kyiv_project.jpg http://www.avianews.com/ukraine/2011/january/17a.htm 2) The current facility is VERY small. Especially, for international flights. Most likely, there will some kind of temporary extention to the terminal (basically, a tent), to accomodate Wizz. Well, it's low cost after all... http://www.avianews.com/ukraine/2011/january/17/kyiv_today.jpg 3) It might seem irrational to move away from Boryspil right at the time iiof its expansion, but there is an explanation to this, and a bit of a good news, too: -- Initially, it was assumed that termianl F in Boryspil will be for low cost and charter carriers. But in the meantime- before termninal D is comissioned, this arguanbly is the best terminal in the airport. So, the airport is charging regular, not reduced fee for it. This may change in the future, if Boryspil will need to fight for traffic with Zhultyany and regional airports. But at the moment they are not terribly concerned. The thing is, Ukraine has not joined open sky yet, and expected to do this this year. So, it is likely that more low cost carriers -like Easy and Ryan will enter the market just around the time when Boryspil commisions terminal D. in addition, Aerosvit is very aggresively expanding operations and will use it as hub. Terminal B will probably only serve domestic flights. And as to terminal F, UIA is currently based there, and they show all signs that this will be their permanent home. -- For years there had been discussions of revitalizing Zhulyany. In particular, the strip has been upgraded, and the new road with a more direct connection to city center is expectyed to be build this year. So, the move by Wizz will definitely fuel this development , which in turn will create a very attractive low cost alterbnative to Boryspil. Actually, this move was totally out of blue- they were promising this in the past, but no one took those intentions seriously... 2010 Airport Statistics is not complete yet, from what was already announced the traffic is back to pre-crisis level KBP 6.7 mln pax SIP 860K pax ODS 707K pax Actually, these numbers may already be quite misleading: the second half of 2010 was way better than the first, and the traffic now is back to ~30% annual growth. Cameras will be recording everything that goes on at gates, box offices, on the tribunes and on the field, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna writes. The images will be of a high quality, comprising at least 950 pixels and a frequency of at least 12 frames per second. All this to be able to quickly identify potential hooligans based on their faces registered on video. Microphones will also be recording sounds. The recordings can become evidence if, for example, racist remarks are shouted out, said Stefan Dziewulski, safety expert with PL.2012. Undercover policemen and stewards will be on hand. Most heavily monitored will be sports fans in Wrocław. The city's stadium has a capacity of 43,000 and will have around 500 cameras installed at a cost of about zł.800,000. The National Stadium in Warsaw, which can hold 55,000 sports fans, will have 400 cameras. The price of a single camera ranges from zł.2,000 to zł.10,000. DGP recently discovered that over 2,000 hooligans have been punished with a binding prohibition of entry into sports stadiums. In most of these cases, a ruling was possible thanks to recordings from existing, less precise monitoring systems. Russia itself can easily bring an amount of fans as twice as that youve mentioned. I know Russia is huge country etc., but it doesn't fully measure the supporters potential. They can bring same number of fans as for example Germany at maximum. Furthermore it's one from fifteen (I don't count Ukraine) qualifiers. If you want, it's maybe 10%, but it doesn't change the fact that majority of people will come from West. There is also, a little but possible, threat that Russia won't qualify, but Slovakia or Irleand will. Moreover, even if they qualify, there is 50% possibility that they will play in Poland, not in Ukraine. Then count how many of fans will come from East. GrimFadango February 1st, 2011, 05:57 PM To be honest, if I was a tourist/supporter during Euro 2012 (or any other massive event) the last transportation I'd use would be a car. Traffic jams are inevitable, possible problems with parking and safety in some places plus the main problem - you can't celebrate a vitory (or defeat) and drive the next day. Besides three group matches in, lets say, Poznań, then driving to see quaterfinals in Gdańsk, then semis in Warsaw... Such trips are usually more tiring than entertaining for most people. Trains/planes + urban transportation: home -> station/airport -> hotel -> stadium/fan zone -> pub/etc. -> hotel -> any other place (...) -> station/airport -> home :) Besides, host cities and other main cities (like GOP or Kraków in Poland) provide all necessary infrastructure. petrosnatevara February 2nd, 2011, 12:43 AM I love Donetsk and Gdansk Stadiums!! Impressive both! 6opuC February 3rd, 2011, 12:21 AM Donbass Arena We can experience infrared heating at first hand in November 24-01-11 09:52:05 http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/9391/72608fullnews.jpg (http://img515.imageshack.us/i/72608fullnews.jpg/) As we reported previously, a unique and expensive infrared gas heating project for warming the stadium stands is currently underway at the Donbass Arena. After about two years spent on designing and having the superb plan approved by the corresponding state agencies, the stadium’s facilities department went ahead with the project fulfillment. The first project implementation stage provides for delivery of Schwank equipment from Germany to Donetsk , with the outside feeding gas main being laid thereafter. “The point is that the gas main feeding our power park is designed for the current volume of gas consumed by the stadium,” Vadim Gun'ko, the Facility Director at the Donbass Arena explains. “After we introduce the infrared heating system the aggregate gas consumption will surge to 1,500 m3/hour during a match (for 2.5-3.5 hours). Correspondingly, we had to review the gas main feeding project. The pipeline having greater diameter will be laid anew due to the project demand. We also scheduled assembly of the new gas-distribution point. It will allow us to actuate the heating system in cold weather, without worrying about any potential gas pressure drop. Moreover, the park landscaping will hardly undergo any major changes since we intend to replant only few trees in order to properly lay the pipeline.” Then, the domestic gas pipeline will be attached to the roof, with the burners put on, the power cabling laid, the alarm and automation systems installed. “Just recently we received the final approval for the project, and now we are about to negotiate the equipment supply with Schwank. This February we are to sign the corresponding contract to have the equipment delivered to the stadium within two to three months. We will also run a tender for assembly work and select the preferred bidder. After that the system will be assembled to become operable in November 2011,” the Facility Director concluded. Despite the construction and assembly jobs scheduled at the venue which is in operation (making us align the work with the stadium event schedule), Vadim Gun’ko is confident that the infrared heating system will have been assembled and tested before it gets cold for the FC Shakhtar fans to feel themselves even more comfortable at the country’s top football stadium mdhookey February 3rd, 2011, 08:41 AM Sadly, it seems that there are still serious problems between UEFA and Ukraine, this time not about infrastructure, but about internal football politics: http://www.thenews.pl/international/?id=148604 At this point, I can't imagine UEFA stripping Ukraine of the Euro 2012, after all the progress made in its stadiums and other various infrastructural projects. And there can be a lot of people driving from Europe. But there are about 1500 kilometers between Warshaw or Polish border and Donetsk. It's too much to drive. It makes the way double longer. So, I think, most people will take an airplane or train. At the moment, train from Kyiv to Lviv cost about 12 Euro for 550 kilometers which is cheap for Europe. When new train is implemented - it will be faster to take a train 4-4,5 hour for 25 Euro then drive another 550 kilometers. Sad, remember just a year ago, there were discussions about connecting Berlin, Warsaw and Lviv (at least for the euros, eventually Kyiv too) with a high speed rail service. This would have required Ukraine to build narrow gauge tracks. It would have been doable to, at least, connect Lviv as it's less than 100 km to the Polish border. Ulyssis February 4th, 2011, 11:14 PM Guys! Be realistic. At present, train service from Lviv to Krakow takes 6+ hours. And that's good news. They use unique SUW-2000 variable gauge system. Having an EuroCity train covering this distance in 4 hours would be a revolution. In addition to substantial infrastructure upgrade this would require sorting out border control and customs issues. And I don't even mention Kyiv-Warsaw rail service which is a disgrace for 21st century. Those are just not priorities for UZ and PKP. If this is Poznan's line then Poznan pays for it, so it means that local government pays for it. It doesn't come directly from the budget. Look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administrative_divisions_of_Poland (Administrative divisions of Poland) For example national stadium in Warsaw is national so it means, that national(not the local) budget pays for it. Local stadium in Poznan is Poznan's property, and not national, so it means, that Poznan pays for it. EDIT: I owe you some explanations actually . It's true what I wrote above in generally, but there is some exception about stadiums for Euro2012 only. There is special act of law about Euro2012 which guarantee that government(so budget of the country) covers 30% costs of stadium. It's only for stadiums for Euro2012 and only for this infrastructure. Rest of cost is covered by local governments, so it is 70% costs of stadiums for Euro2012 with exception for national stadium in Warsaw which I mentioned above. Whole rest of infrastructure in cities is covered by local governments from they own money. It was started when I called Polish town "Holm", which is exactly like it is pronounced in Ukrainian and means "the Hill" :))))) So, I can google how it should be written in Polish and use it :) I don't care. Is it enough to close this discussion? We really have to do it, in order to prevent arguing here. However, I like such arguing and can replay to anyone who is dare enough to write me in private :)))))) PS. General topic about history. History means nothing for real life. Why? Example, Messopotamia (Iraq) has very nice history, many years, first civilasation, first wrtitten symbols, powerful army. But now they are conquered by US. US has no history. 200 years history is nothing for many years But now US is the biggest country. Messopotamia/Iraq, or Greece - the same. Roman Empire had big civilasation but nowdays Italia is not that powerful as German or Britain (barbarians which romans fight). So, do you still think history means something? I think, not really :)))))) Husarz February 9th, 2011, 12:12 AM So, do you still think history means something? I think, not really :)))))) History is everything, but to a people lacking it or having a very undesirable one i guess it makes sense to say it means nothing. slushay backi February 9th, 2011, 08:59 AM So many words. I have asked guys have much money does it cost. I don't care which budget owns it. Is it a new line? How much money did Goverment spent for it? :) Compare it. You asked how much money government did spent for it, so you should be glad that somebody wanted to explain you how it works in Poland. It is normal that you do not know internal organization of Poland like I do not know ukrainian, but you make mistakes if you compare it. For you those things are only details, but believe me it makes big differences when you look at it closer. It is not just simply thing. Now you know that government did not spend any money for new trams in Poznan. slushay backi February 9th, 2011, 09:16 AM yes you are. Totally manipulation. Totally manipulation is that your las president "Juszczenko" believed some of ukrainian historians that Ukraina is 5000 years old(even longer than Chinese civilization). Totally manipulation is that your UPA which commit genocide on Wolyn are heroes. This is manipulation. But since, you are very easy to be damaged by trolling and if I troll you more - we can go farther into arguing, which is not primary topic of this branch. So, I will not continue. However, I like historical discussion and we can continue somewhere else. Privat or skype :) No, I did not started to talk about Holm and that is old ukrainian town or something. I do not troll you either. I just saw something which you started on international forum and I answered for it. It was my duty because I am Polish and it touched history of my country. I know that I am not wrong and I know what kind of manipulation and bull[...] your historians pun in "ether". It is not that we can speak on skype, because you did not put your words on skype but in public so it means, that I want to prove that you are wrong in public. It is not offensive from my side or any trolling. You started to speak about polish-ukrainan history on football forum, which is really sad for me, and now you want to let it go with your false point of view. Sorry, but what did you expected when you started to speak about Holm. Anyway my country(Poland) is over 1000 years old, and Ukraina shown itself after USSR collapsed. What you do compare, man... slushay backi February 9th, 2011, 09:27 AM Guys, please, stop talking about history. Italian guys should cross out Romain Empire times from their history and Romanians should add it to their :) Italians are not citizens of Roman empire. Roman empire does not exist anymore, and even Italians can say It to you. But let's get back. It was started when I called Polish town "Holm", which is exactly like it is pronounced in Ukrainian and means "the Hill" :))))) It is not strange. 30% of old forms of words in your language come from polish language... So, I can google how it should be written in Polish and use it :) I don't care. Me to, but it does not mean, that Chełm is old ukrainian town. you did not exist in this period of time. Is it enough to close this discussion? We really have to do it, in order to prevent arguing here. Yes it is, but stop to talk about old ukrainian towns. Then everybody will be happy. So, do you still think history means something? I think, not really :)))))) You write about history and civilization. It is nor really important what happened with Roman empire because it does not touch my identity really much, but when you write about polish history, then it is completely different. ;) Harisson February 9th, 2011, 09:37 AM Moderators, where are you? slushay backi February 9th, 2011, 09:37 AM Guys, look at this.
