Vanaheim July 2nd, 2011, 02:50 PM yeap, so we have 2 stadiums been built with substantial fails
They couldn't have got positive decison because the stadium is not finished, not because of some "fails".
JeV July 2nd, 2011, 02:50 PM First of all Fire Departments are very strict which is good in terms of safety.
rapone July 2nd, 2011, 02:54 PM They couldn't have got positive decison because the stadium is not finished.
prooflink plz.
ssooooo, what do we have? Problems with Warsaw, Gdansk and Poznan stadiums due to the safe expluatation...
Cracovia July 2nd, 2011, 03:10 PM How can a stadium pass a Fire saftey test if its not finished use your brain, when they finish they will have another one, the fire department regularly inspect buildings a few times before a construction is finished in order to point out anything they should look at, so that the final test once is opened is passed!

Guys, please relax. These are not 'failures'. Things like this happen, remember the opening of terminal 5 at Heathrow? The stadiums are done and are looking amazing !! Minor adjustments, if anything, will have to be made and that's not a problem.
More optimism please !!

salto_angel July 6th, 2011, 10:06 AM ^^ once again. This is not true. This is only the media info.
Please search for the map done by user Esce - with all of the express and highways in Poland.

erbse July 6th, 2011, 10:11 AM This is not true. This is only the media info.[/url]
Well, if you say so - but where does the media get that info from?
No autobahnen connecting Poland's East & West and North & South would be really... Suboptimal, to say the least.
markus1234 July 6th, 2011, 11:07 AM ^^ once again. This is not true. This is only the media info.
This is an official GDDIK (gov.) map and not a "media info".
And it is of course true that huge parts of the 2007/8 plans won't be finished in 2012. The gov. promises made by the GDDIK and Mr.Grabarczyk were simply unrealistic and overconfident. And hiring some chinese dumping workers was the icing on the cake...
Well, if you say so - but where does the media get that info from?.

Markus, do not get into politics here pls. You were alerady heavily criticized and commented on that topic in the Polish part of the forum. No need to take it here.
markus1234 July 6th, 2011, 12:41 PM Politicians created those maps and made promises. Not my fault.
And BTW this is a thread about (the state of) preparations and not propaganda.
salto_angel July 6th, 2011, 12:51 PM And BTW this is a thread about (the state of) preparations and not propaganda.
That is why I posted a map created by Esce. With the latest information about the state of the roads constuction in PL. It shows whole picture, not only parts of it.
EOT.
markus1234 July 6th, 2011, 01:03 PM This Esce map is nice, but it does not show how many "red(currently being constructed)" roads will be actually finished in 2012. In this EURO2012 preparations thread only the "green(finished)" roads are relevant, and behind the "red" roads there is a huge "?"...
That's the state of the EURO infrstructure preparations. And the gazeta map shows it best.
salto_angel July 6th, 2011, 01:19 PM ^^ it exactly shows when which part is going to be finished. Please take a closer look, there are months and years next to the red marked construction sites.
markus1234 July 6th, 2011, 01:23 PM And you believe in it ?
Look at the stadiums and the "chinese" roads. Look when they should have been finished.

J@nek July 6th, 2011, 03:01 PM ^ This is a way of the media getting people's attention. Gazeta Wyborcza is very well known for this and for making a big deal out of things that are irrelevant. Yes, not all roads and highways will be built and ready however, a lot of them will be. After all, we are not building our highways for the Euro.
Plus remember, the green that you see on the map are not the only existing roads in Poland. For example there is a multi-lane highway between Lodz and Katowice already however, its simply not up to S or A class standards.
This article and maps are simply pessimistic and are there to get the public's attention, as it did here on this forum.
maxarch July 6th, 2011, 04:00 PM In read in the news that not all new autobahnen will be finished for the World Cup. :(This is not that simple, to build full road network in such a big country like Poland, in such a short time. The most important thing now is, don't let the gov. to brake this whole road masterplan!
Atrium July 7th, 2011, 04:04 AM I guess the Chinese are not as good at building concrete roads as they were at building railroad tracks.. :|
Ulyssis July 7th, 2011, 07:10 AM C'mon,
as far as roads go, what Poland accomplished is alreadsy impressive. What was promised initially was simply unrealistic.
P.S. Chinese are OK in building roads. They built many more km of motorways than HS rail to date. Simply it's not as publicized.

Well most of what is to be 'accomplished' is still under construction. Once we see everything opening up and in service, we can speak of an accomplishment.
In strict regards to the Euro, its a question of whether the current construction works will be finalized before June 2012, in time for the Euro.
I truly think that most of the major ones will be.

O please stop it. If Dalai Lama ever visits Donetsk, I bet Akhmetov will give him a tour of DA too (not to mention that Akhmetov is probably muslim, if religious at all).
J@nek July 8th, 2011, 12:11 PM Is that the Russian Patriarch? I know that in Poland, very often a Bishop blesses a new building or whatever before it's opening. It's tradition however, here I'm seeing a religious figure along with Akhmetov if I'm not mistaken.

Homem July 8th, 2011, 08:50 PM ^ This is a way of the media getting people's attention.
Being in this moment in Poland, because what I see I m afraid this map is not pessimistic but optimistic.
Sure, Poland is not building these motorways only for the Euro , but this event is a good pretext to boost these infrastructures. I m afraid that just after the Euro the country will finally meet the huge crisis which it just ignore because of the impulsion of this Euro illusion.
After July 2012 it will be time to pay the bill and I m not sure that the infrastructure constructions started for this event will be finished so soon.
After July 2012 the stark reality will appears clearly.

What crisis? Polish public debt will be less than 53% of GDP at the end of this year (http://www.warsawvoice.pl/WVpage/pages/article.php/17167/news), which is pretty good result in Europe. According to IMF Polish GDP will grow on 4% this year. Strong internal demand and growing export will support Polish GDP in the 2012, so I don't see any reasons why Poland should expect any serious crisis.

This is a very serious off-top, but take into account that Spain was a star performer for ages, and debt seemed quite reasonable back then . And where is it now?
Based on the expereienmce of more mature european aeconomies, Poland has a relatively shoirt window of opportunities , about 10-15 years to catch up, during which time it will likely take up as much public debt as market conditions allow. After that, it will be up against the challenges similar to Japan and Western Europe.

Rather it won't, because we have written in the constitution public debt limit to 60% of GDP.
Ulyssis July 9th, 2011, 12:05 AM Rather it won't, because we have written in the constitution public debt limit to 60% of GDP.
Right.
Except what you gonna do if GDP contracts, especially in absolute numbers, like in Greece? GDP is a very volatile thing, you know. And debt is debt.
In any case, it's irrelevant. What's important is that most emerging economy have a period of relatively fast expansion, during which they can accumulate debt relatively painlessly, and finance infrastructure. Once the party is over, everything becomes very tight. Say, US now would not be able to build Interstate system.

sorry, but this is bs. It's not Euro2012 but huge EU donations that boost our economy. And in the EU budget '14-'20 we'll get even more money than during this term. Roads which are under const (1334 kms) will be finished for the tournament or at worst a few months later.

EURONews2012 July 12th, 2011, 10:41 AM Belgium wants to partake and Spain – to win
The first news in our review about events of last week is exclusive information for euro-2012news.com readers. You won´t see such kind of info even on the official web-site of UEFA!
So, last week UEFA started the poll among the happy owners of the tickets for EURO 2012 matches. Each of them has received the email with attached individual number that will allow them the registration on the poll page. So judging by question that test contains, we can name it the marketing investigation: just a little bit of football and a lot of “consuming”. Firstly UEFA will try to know where come from the upcoming guests of Ukraine and Poland, how they are going to arrive to destination point, how they will move across the country, which cities do they plan to visit. The part of poll is dedicated for the information support of UEFA EURO 2012, especially for UEFA’s official web-site and host-countries, etc. Something like that: “How have you learnt about tickets selling portal?” The next section is about food: what fans are going to eat and drink at the stadium and how much money they plan to spend. So, you’ve understand all…
Also, there are some questions about price for tickets. We hope that each of you has marked the “price doesn’t suit – it is too high”. Maybe UEFA will lend an attentive ear and install new more democratic prices for the next tournaments.
By the way, the Ukrainian version of the UEFA poll has omnipresent variant “another mode of transport” that is present in every section regardless of the content whether its transport or food. Some kind of glitch…
Plan of los Espańoles: 2008+2010+2012
Vicente Del Bosque, the manager of national team of Spain, last week fell into a sweet memorable events as the triumph of his men the last year and by the way said about some “modest” plans for the forthcoming future: the minimum is partake in UEFA EURO 2012, the maximum win it. “We have an exact goal – to win at EURO, World Cup, and EURO consecutively,” said el espańol. The first two victories they’ve already had (2008 and 2010 respectively).
Of course, Del Bosque did all necessary reverences and said all appropriate things like they needed to be realistic and to evaluate adequately their fails and successes and wouldn’t assume airs. Also he named five teams that might impede Spain, etc. In general, all these bows and scrapes were simple bows and scrapes like “Sorry guys, but we are the best”. Nevertheless, let’s be honest, Spain has all the possible and impossible right to say so because it’s true.
Optimistic “Red Devils”
If the status of los espańoles and their position in the Group I allow saying and acting how they want and what they want, however, it’s obvious that Belgium is to early on their way to Ukraine and Poland. Therefore, Belgium is on the second position in the group A 10 point behind the powerful and invincible Germany and only one point before Turkey, however, the latter has one game in hand.
It’s not the best situations for the “Red Devils’, however, the have already launches their scouts to Ukraine and Poland due to find appropriate training camp for their lovable team. These “spies” have noticed three Ukrainian cities – hosting Donets and two former candidates as Odessa and Dnepropetrovsk.
The history of football starts with…
14 July in Lviv (of course, in the context of preparation for EURO 2012) the historical match of 1894 between FC “Sokol” from Lviv and Krakow will be reconstructed. The main zest of the 117-year-old match is recognition of this match by all Ukrainian football functionaries as the first game in history of Ukrainian football. No matter that this match lasted only six minutes (till the first scored goal), the spectators didn’t know the football rules and footballers, according to witnesses, didn’t mind the tactic and simply tried to reach the ball.
Did the history of football in you country also start with match of some school, yard, child or simply non-football team?

Wait... What Fc Sokół and Kraków have common with Ukrainian football...? God... :ohno: It was match between two Polish teams.
On July 14, 1894 during the Second Sokół Jamboree in Lwów a short football match was played between the Sokół members of Lwów and those from Kraków. It lasted only six minutes and was seen as a curiosity rather than a potentially popular sport. Nevertheless, it was the first recorded football match in Polish history.[3] It was won by the Lwów team after Włodzimierz Chomicki scored the only goal - the first known goal in Polish history.

My friend, I can tell you the same about most of w. ukraine. Many cities have coat of arms with red and white being the dominant colours. This is simply silly.
I wasn't referring to what is who's but rather how history is portrayed in western ukraine. Eastern Ukraine, including Donetsk know very well who and what UPA, Bandera and Suchevych are. Western Ukraine glorifies them, names streets after them and puts up monuments to commemorate these criminals. Eastern, central and southern Ukraine puts up monuments to the victims of UPA/Bandera etc.
You can argue that Przemysl is Ukrainian and I can argue back the Lwow, Stanislawow, Tarnopol, Kamieniec Podolski and other cities are Polish. Like I said above, this is silly and it won't get us anywhere.
In regards to the Euro, its sad that in a city that is hosting the events, people fail to remember that UPA and Bandera are responsible for the death and ethnic cleansing of over 150 000 civilians, whether they were Ukrainian, Polish, Czech or Jewish does not matter. The idea to name the stadium after Stepan Bandera (did not go through) was outrageous itself.
I'm sure that most of Ukrainians (with the exception of most of those in the west) in central, eastern and southern Ukraine would agree with me.
Anyways, my apologies for the off topic, but Sokół Lwów was a Polish football team, and it has NOTHING to do with Ukrainian football.
kal323Ci July 12th, 2011, 02:56 PM No one is denying the Ukranian roots in Przemysl. In Lwow they are denying and falsyfying facts about that city having a rich Polish history.
Thats the difference.
If you go to Podkarpacie, they Ukranian culture is celebrated and no one is trying to lie about ancestry of certain buildings or local customs.
In Lwow they try to erase or falsify anything that might remind or tell people about the rich history Lwow has with Poland.
Kozhedub July 12th, 2011, 03:02 PM ^^ Eastern Ukraine thinks Bandera is bad not just because they killed people, but also because our Great Northern Brothers (GNB) think the same, and if Russia says something is good or bad, it is a rule for many East Ukrainians. East Ukraine is not any more humane or civilized than Western Ukraine. We have statues of Lenin and streets named after Suvorov, for example, and those men men killed and tortured many Ukrainians and Poles, too. So we must't tell each other what is, in our opinion, a right way to live. As we are two neighbouring counries, we must find better what unites us.

Igor L. July 12th, 2011, 06:10 PM http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a8/Gubernia_chełmska.png Kholm Governorate or Chełm Governorate (Ukrainian: Холмська губернія, Russian: Холмская Губерния, Polish: gubernia chełmska) was an administrative unit (governorate) of the Russian Empire. Its capital was in Chełm (Russian and Ukrainian: Холм Kholm).
It was created from eastern parts of Siedlce Governorate and Lublin Governorate in 1912. It was separated from the Privislinsky Krai and joined to Kyiv General Governorate. According to Russian statistical sources in 1914, while the area of the governorate was 10 460 km2, it was inhabited by approximately 912,000 inhabitants of whom about 50.1% were Ukrainians, 30.5% Poles, 15.8% Jews. Now this is the territory of Poland...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FC_Karpaty_Lviv
...and maybe sometimes national team of Ukraine...
Ulyssis July 13th, 2011, 01:38 AM It's a bit stupid to have color scheme almost identical to Olympic stadium in Kyiv. Let's hope they'll change there mind. Karpaty jabe not committed themselves to use the stadium. You may guess, it'll all boil down to a question of rent amount.

Ulv July 15th, 2011, 01:26 PM No there's no need. You should call to architects, Wroclaw's president and tell them about your objections ;-)
erbse July 15th, 2011, 03:23 PM Closing this important thread without giving any kind of insight what led to such a decision ain't much of a good idea, 625.
Anyway. People, please go back to discussing the actual projects rather than politics, which seems too controversial to keep this thread smooth.
Thanks.

mr.cool July 15th, 2011, 03:56 PM Poznan's stadium surroundings slowly getting better..what will they build where that massive area of dirt is, car park/football pitches? The white roof could do with a good clean down as its attracted alot of dirty making the stadium look old and ugly, are there any plans to paint the concrete? I think this would enhance the attraction of the stadium if for example it was painted in the colours of the lech team blue/white, just plain old grey concrete gives it that cold negative feel.

jwojcie July 15th, 2011, 10:23 PM The bridge in Wroclaw seems too big/expensive to me. Was there really a need for such a hanging construction ?
Many people in Wroclaw were asking the very same question... till another flood came two years after construction started, when water was flowing more or less smothly under this long flyover (if I remember corectly more than 1,5 km with bridge).
Floods are often in the area, but memory of the society is quite short. I bet soon many will start asking this question again...
salto_angel July 15th, 2011, 10:35 PM ^^ exactly. Thanks for making it clear.
The construction of the bridge as it is was caused by the environmental conditions and the potential problems that could have happened in case of flood. The Odra river is not just a small stream. It is a very dangerous river, and it is better to think ahead and be safe, than to cry in the future...

In English it's Gdansk, but I don't see a problem when Germans call it Danzig. Same when Poles call Leipzig Lipsk or Vilnius Wilno.

Ulv July 18th, 2011, 10:48 PM ^^ It is Gdansk, not Danzig.
For me as a Pole this is not a problem. In Polish München = Monachium or Rügen = Rugia etc. We shouldn't treat traditional names (for different nations) like sth wrong ;-)

I wouldn't call Wien Vienna or Prag Praha/Prague either, so why should I say Gdansk? Every non-Slavic tongue's gonna break by trying to pronounce that.
Anyway, I don't want to discuss the name. Do they already switch the lights on inside the stadium to highlight it at night?
markus1234 July 18th, 2011, 11:28 PM The good thing about "Gdansk" is that google (image search) or YT does not get confused with an American heavy metal band. Everytime i search for "Danzig" there, I get some fat hairy dudes as a result....

That's what they're called in English (Gdańsk, Vienna, Prague) and apparently this is an English speaking board. I agree it may not be the easiest thing to pronounce, but luckily here you just need to spell it :)
Anyway, I don't want to discuss the name. Do they already switch the lights on inside the stadium to highlight it at night?
In Warsaw they used to, but on most nights they don't anymore (to save on the electricity bill)...

25th July 2011
However, the contractor could be charged more than zł.200,000 a day for missing the deadline for completion
http://www.euro.gdansk.pl/_podstrony/kamery/foto_pl2012/aktualny_720.jpg
Gdańsk’s stadium for the Euro 2012 soccer championships, the PGE Arena, is finally complete after building inspectors hired by the city authority gave the stadium the green light on July 19.
Its delivery came 18 days after the most recent deadline, with the stadium now set to have its grand opening on August 6. The first match will take place on August 12, when Lechia Gdańsk will take on Cracovia Kraków.
“We are very satisfied that it went according to plan, of course we expected to take it over earlier, but the important thing now is that the stadium has started working properly,” said Wojciech Rokicki, national coordinator for stadiums at PL.2012, the Euro 2012 soccer tournament’s organizing body.
The contract to build the stadium was worth zł.427.7 million for the Polish-Austrian consortium of Alpine Bau, PBG and Hydrobudowa that was charged with completing the project.
However, if the City of Gdańsk manages to prove that the delays in construction were the contractor’s fault, the penalties could add up to more than zł.200,000 for each day that the project was late.
The stadium’s operator will have to pay the city a fixed sum of zł.10 million a year, as well as 5 percent of all income earned from operating the stadium.
Two more to go
The PGE Arena is the second Euro 2012 facility to be completed, following the Municipal Stadium in Poznań.
The National Stadium in Warsaw is currently scheduled for completion in November, while Wrocław’s Municipal Stadium faces a race against time to be ready for the heavyweight boxing showdown between Tomasz Adamek and Vitali Klitschko, set for September 10.

Don't want to be rude but Poznan is a world class comparing to Charkow. Lviv due to its size is also in different league then Poznan which (for me) is much better. I can compare Lviv to Wisla Krakow or Legia Warsaw stadium.
As for other everyone has their favorites, I am just glad that there are more and more great stadiums in our part of Europe and seeing those jeleous Italians, Germans, British or Spanish guys looking at our beauties in Poland or Ukraine will be priceless :cheers:

kal323Ci August 2nd, 2011, 10:17 AM English please, and as far as the FIFA ranking, remember we were at #16 before the World Cup in Germany and we know how that went. Also even if we won all our friendly games we still would be ranked very low because games for points give 3x more ranking points than friendly games.
While FIFA ranking is a decent way to say how strong a team is, it doesnt mean anything on the pitch.

Marbur66 August 4th, 2011, 02:08 PM Montenegro is on a high right now, and they're playing well.......but they're punching above their weight and will fall back to earth, IMO. WC14 qualifying group is quite interesting for Poland and Ukraine, and either team has a very realistic chance of qualifying (not both).
