To be honest every stadium has its own character. Everyone is different.
For me Wrocław stadium is the worst of all Polish stadiums (at the moment). Poznań stadium was rebuilded, still have problems with many things but for me looks
really good. I like it.
BTW: Talking about stadiums when someone saw only pictures is pointless. Two weeks ago i saw all 4 Polish stadiums live so for me:
Gdańsk > Warsaw > Poznań > Wrocław

and environment is the best in Warsaw. River Vistula, new bridge (Millenium) and stadium looks awesome together. And stadium is really BIG

Kharkiv looks average, but Poznan is great, maybe not as fantastic like Donetsk, Warsaw or Gdansk, but still looks good and very original comparing to most of European stadiums :cheers:

That's what was called "socialist realism" in old days. Taking picture from one point from where the biggest design flaw cannot be seen;)

Hello folks. I've discovered the SkyscraperCity forum today and am amazed with the wealth of info and up-to-date pics throughout.

Re the appearance of Polish stadia, my preference would be: Gdańsk -> Warszawa -> Poznań -> Wrocław. To me they all look beautiful in particular on aerial photos.

Also, all the best to our Ukrainian partners, I'm sure we'll make this championship unique.

Gdansk stadium is a real beauty, Warsaw catching up, beautiful surrounding , Wroclaw interesting but Poznan... hmm, I better keep my mouth shut, just wasted huge amount of money I'm affraid.

Kyiv looks awesome inside. Nice pattern of roof (I'm little bit concerned about amount and details of the stars - the line between "perfectly" and "corny" is really thin. I'm wating till end to judge it.) Shadow of root is that what I like the most - simpe shape but so spectacular. Arrangement of seats is praiseworthy too.

On the other hand, this stadium deserves much better exterior look.

Using electrical lighting during the day looks like prodigality to me. I also don't like the upper tribune overlapping over lower level - it looks a little bit claustrophobic.

It's true but... remember that camera is uncompromising. What is underexposed and overexposed is an effect of light measurement (or manual settings). If the photo had taken in a HDR technic you wouldn't have caught it.
Human eye has super tool called accomodation ;-) So judging lightning conditions basing on photo where exposition is set on full sun is pointless.

But seriously, fans pay good money to watch games in some leagues, and I guess they'd rather stay dry and enjoy the game. I know when I go to footy games here in Toronto I sometimes wish we had a roof over the seating area, because it always seems to piss rain when I go.

This year Kiev celebrates 20 years of post-Soviet history. The country’s capital is an indicator of how Ukraine, which has always been torn between East and West, has changed and is evolving.

Kiev is a city with a real drive for modernisation. Twenty years after independence it is a mixture of old and new. The imperial look of its palaces, reflecting its Soviet past, and its historical buildings coexist with modern developments, to the point where UNESCO has threatened to take the city’s historic sites off the World Heritage List.

The needs of the people have changed, along with what they can do: “Up until the late 1980s almost all buildings in this area were shared apartments. During Perestroika, when people got the opportunity to buy homes, the accommodation in this area changed. People started buying the flats and several of them to create new luxury homes,” explained architect Georgy Duchovichny.

That is how an area in central Kiev became one of the most up-market neighbourhoods in the capital. Luxury boutiques have started to appear in the last few years as well as many international chains.

According to Igor Burakovsky, head of the Ukrainian Institute of Economic Studies and Political Consulting, Kiev encapsulates the history of Ukrainian economic development.

“The first consumer credits given by the banks originally or historically appeared in the city of Kiev, so it was relatively easy to get some money, to invest that in, for example housing, and it gave a certain boost to the development of the city as such.”

Change has also embraced culture. The Pinchuk Art Centre is an illustration of how commerce, politics and culture overlap. Kiev’s most futuristic Art Centre, which does not charge an entrance fee, is financed by Victor Pinchuk, a billionaire defined by foreign media as a “new generation” philanthropic oligarch.

“Change is not something that we expect, to happen every day, every moment of our lives. Everybody knows that if you want to see a country in 20 years time you need to look at those who are 20-years-old now, and this new generation of Ukrainians, who are free from those Soviet stereotypes, they are completely different,” said Dennis Kazavan of the Pinchuk Art Centre.

Euronews Monica Pinna reports from Kiev saying: “Kiev is a city in full evolution. With its parks, its green spaces, its galleries, it is the modern face of a country that still has many challenges ahead.”

Kiev is the most expensive city in a country that has been hit deeply by the 2008 global crisis. Today there are signs of economic recovery, which are more visible in the capital than in the rest of the country that has far lower living standards. The economy is starting to modernise, though still linked to the past.

“Unfortunately Ukrainian economic growth until now is still based upon the heritage of the former Soviet Union. This heritage hits back on the performance of Ukrainian society as well,” said Igor Burakovsky.

Kiev shows Ukraine’s hunger for culture, knowledge and development focused on building a new environment for future generations.

Inspector General Is Coming

The President of UEFA, Michel Platini will visit Ukraine at least twice in late September and in the beginning of December. The first will be the inspectional one, the head of the Union of European Football Associations will test the main EURO 2012 infrastructure facilities of the country. The reason for the second visit will be more pleasant: Michel Platini will take part in the official draws of the European Championship that take place in Kiev, 2 December.

Even in spite of the UEFA’s head in every case tries to praise Ukraine for the accelerated pace of the preparation for the tournament and assure everybody that our country will host the EURO at the highest level, Ukrainian party understands that there so much to do. So what Ukraine should finalize till the end of 2011 in order to please the high official?

The main preoccupancy of the country during the EURO 2012 preparation remains stadiums, in particular, finalizing of the Olympic Stadium reconstruction in Kyiv and construction of the arena in Lviv. The grand opening should take place soon, in October. Therefore, according to the UEFA’s demands before the Championship all the test matches must be played. So, 11 November Olympic Stadium in Kyiv will host the matches between Ukraine and Germany and right in four days, at the new Lviv stadium the battle between Ukrainians and Austrian footballers will take place.

Let’s see, the situation at the Olympic stadium only one year and a half was catastrophic and the functionaries of the Union of European Football Associations though about privation of Kyiv to host the final EURO 2012 match. Nevertheless, in late August the construction works are at the final line. The constructors install anti-hooligan seats, the unique membrane ceiling and lawn heating system. In some days builder begin to seed the lawn created in Slovakia. Also the last week, on the 20th Anniversary of the Ukraine’s Independence, at the Olympic Stadium in Kyiv were launched the biggest monitors in the country. So fans will see there the results and the repeats of the most spectacular moment s of the match.

Construction of a new arena in Lviv, which began in 2008, also is in the final stage. Only a one and a half year ago there were only 15% work performed, therefore the stadium was even listed in the UEFA "black" (maximum) area of risk, and today by the effort of thousands of builders there is already completed the installation of seats (by the way, just like on the Olympic stadium in Kyiv), and football field is almost ready too. Only the roof cover will be finished at the last moment - just before the grand opening of the stadium.

Also during his September visit Michel Platini will inspect Kharkov arena "Metalist". Therefore, the work doesn’t cease for a minute and constructors continue to improve and modernize it. To date, the stadium has already laid a new lawn, equipped additional emergency exits and bathrooms, renovated room for coaches.

In addition, during the r time before the end of this year Ukraine has to complete the preparation of the airports in all host cities of EURO 2012. For example, in Kyiv already completed renovation of Terminal "B" of international airport "Boryspil", beginning from tomorrow, September 1st, there will be serviced the domestic flights passengers. The new terminal «D» is to open in December.

In Kharkiv, the key work in preparation for the European Championships will be in the autumn. Specifically in October should be put into operation a new runway of the international airport, which will land transcontinental aircrafts. In Lviv, the new runway is scheduled in late 2011.

In order to complete all scheduled work on time, Ukraine needs at least to keep up the pace. Will our country surprise UEFA’s functionaries by the level of preparation, we’ll see very soon - less than in a month.

Denn 279 Tage vor dem EM-Start (8. Juni in Warschau) gibt es nicht nur in Danzig Probleme mit der Arena. In der polnischen Hauptstadt Warschau ist das Stadion noch immer nicht fertig. Und auch in den Stadien in Ukraines Metropole Kiew und in Lwiw wird weiter fleißig gebaut. Dabei sollte dort längst Fußball gespielt werden. Aber daran ist nicht zu denken.

BILD sagt, wo die Bauarbeiter für die EM dringend Gas geben müssen – und wo die Kugel schon problemlos rollt.

Because situation is a bit different. When Germans speak of "Danzig" it is not similar to Gdansk at all because word "Danzig" comes from Latin language changed to be easier to speak for Germans. Lviv=Lwów, the same source of name it could be used in exchange (and to be honest - the history is somehow different). Charkow instead of Kharkiv I'll explain You why. In english is often written as "Kharkov" and for us english "Kh" is "ch" but yeah, we should use it proper name. Anyway you couldn't compare both situations, they are different.

I agree that using name Lwow or even worse Lwów in wrighting (in this thread) instead of Lviv by Poles is not Ok, but I think it's something similar to naming: London - Londyn, Paris - Paryż, Mainz - Moguncja, etc. I don't think it's wrong. But man in whose signature is (between 2 other places) polish Rybnik, knows exactly what effect will it do when he keeps using german names like Danzig, Warschau etc.& he's doing it for purpose - just to provoke, even our little discussion is clear prove of it, he's got his goal. Germany is a strong team, 2:2 I think is successful however, it was VERY close to being 2:1 for Poland. :)

I saw two equally strong teams with similar weaknesses. The red card was too harsh and the penalty for Germany was questionable (however the referee most probably was in a bad angle to make the right decision).

No doubt, Vitaly is a killer... I was really impressed of fly-by near stadium, stunning night skyline near Wrocław!

Kudos to Klitschko, great as always.

I always like to watch both Klitschko fighting :) they're intelligent men... and quite big, so Adamek has chosen the wrong category :D
And the arena was very nice looking. I like the idea of putting the lights on every parts of the stairs - it just adds more originality to the grandstands.

P.S.
It was almost obvious that Vitali gonna win, cuz the difference in size and mass between them is just too big.

They should be playing at 23.09 against Lech Poznan, but noone really believes it's going to happen

Та й прилеглу територію і адмінбудівлю уже приводят в порядок.
Ще й дорогу поряд зі стадіоном роблять )))
