No one cares about the ceremonies and acts surrounding the draw anyway. That god awful yellow girl will hopefully not take part in any opening ceremonies. Note to UEFA: Just get on with the draw.

I could hardly see any Polish accents on this ceremony, except Poland in promo video and maybe Polish co-host, so for me it wasn't Polish ceremony at all.

Polish compere, polish lyrics of song, promo videos. The only one advantage of Ukrainian accents was an opening act. But counting accents and stamping - "2-3 for Ukraine, its unfair!!!" is childish.

If you find it equal... Both Polish imo are much less prestigious (Who cared about play-off draw, except teams taking part in? Qualificiation draw was also nothing much)

Maybe Polish are little less prestigious, but I tried mention that this is unimportant for me. We play in one team. As in football. If I were midfielder, and you were attacker we would win only playing as a team. "Coach, why I should pass him, not score goals?" is pointless. Both countries have their own role, we should just do our best in places where we are obliged to do it.

I may be wrong, but I suppose those ceremonies was organised by uefa and Ukrainian TV or TVP had nothing to it. Besides Piotr Sobczynski, who you mentioned, managed really well and made a decent job, which was damn tough, when all eyes has been aimed at beautiful Ukrainian.

I have recorded friday ceremony, and checked credits today. Lot of ukrainian surnames ;-) Mr Sobczynski was ok, but ok is not enough. Really there is no good-looking, smiling, with fluent english TV compare in Poland?

Look at the acts of opening stadiums in Donieck,Kiev and Lviv. Absolute masterpieces.

In Poland only Warsaw have planned opening like this two and cancelled it.

piopix I guess we have different points of view on this case and later discussion is just pointless :) But there is one more thing, which I have to ask you about. What Mr.Sobczyński had to do to be good 'enough' for you? Guy was simply faultless, with great english and acceptable apperance. Even look on the video below and tell me, who's co-host english is better. I know that Olena is simply outstanding, but one of the hosts just had to be a male ;p

Last sentence is so sexist. Male could be outstanding too ;-) Yes, Sobczynski have good english(sounds better than Olena) and didn't make any faults, but Olena deserve for more handsome, younger, slimmer (:P) photogenic guy who knows "smiling". But this is my caviling ;-)

Eeee... Are you joking? This is really good song, and would be nice to have such song as official for Euro. That Oceana's song is a catastrophe. Especially when we compare these two songs.
It's difficult to talk about tastes, but I suppose if we would make a poll: "if the Jamala song is good enough to be the Euro song", most answers would be "YES". Maybe we should?

OK, if it is a final desicion is 13/3. Let me ask our friends from Ukraine why according to them most teams desided to chose Poland as an accomodation centers? I do not wonna start any quarrel, but I am simply curiouse about Your opinion. Im my opinion it should be devided in half and moreover, Ukraine have some better centers than Poland (Shaktar, Dynamo etc). On the other hand Poland is a closer location for fans from west countries.

So, what do you think about that?

I think it's simply because they know Poland, it's closer to home, within the Schengen Zone, EU, better infrastructure. Mind you, Ukraine does have some nice football facilities as well, perhaps some being even better than those in Poland however, the whole package counts, not only where the teams will reside. You need to get there, move around, train etc.

I agree with you. I do not think that a lot of fans who come from Europe, will rejoice that their team live in one country or another, because it is not important, but what fans will remember from the country, the players have seen a lot, so there is little difference which team where to stay

Svercer
December 14th, 2011, 07:28 PM
Fans will go there, where they want. There are quite huge amount of them, who join nt training camp as well as euro matches.

According to question. What is strange, probably the least important factor, while choosing a centre, was actually the centre :P Like mentioned the most significant things were: infrastructure, EU, nearness. E.g England had possibility for great Shakhtar/Dynamo base nearby place, where their matches will take place, however decided to choose awful hutnik stadium, probably the worst euro center of all 16. Why such a sacrifice? Answer is clear and may be a bit harsh for Ukrainians, but that's are facts. Everyone, who have (like i have) been several times in Ukraine knows it. Simply diffrerance between Poland and Ukraine is more or less, like between Germany and Poland. Surely it constantly draws in, but it's still quite huge. Country development is really noted, which btw I'm happy about, as a Lviv admirer, but the coutry is huuuge. Bigger then France, Spain, two times bigger then co-host - Poland. That means that works, which have been done, are a drop in the bucket. Also, which is maybe even bigger case, Ukraine is soaked by corruption. All those countries, which accomodate in Poland don't want to make their fans additional problems and stays in Poland.

Sport is business and choice of a place for a team's base is a strategical business decision. It's good practice in business to minimize risk so it's obvious that teams choose more developed and stable country for bases. If Euro 2012 were organized by Germany and Poland most teams would reside in Germany. It's quite obvious so there's not much to discuss.

As for fans, there were 1.4 mln tickets available and over 12 mln people trying to buy them so there are millions of fans left with nothing. Some of them sure will want to taste the atmosphere of championships anyway so, with Poland being quite accessible country, they will try to see their teams here. Also it will result with Poland being shown more on TVs around Europe in between matches. On the other hand Ukraine got more interesting matches so actually everybody should be happy, everybody will profit, I see no problem here.

holier_than_dnipro
December 14th, 2011, 10:40 PM
Poland is obviously seen as a much more familiar and safe place. So all teams want to take no risks and chose to go for additional insurance against unpleasant surprises, often even clearly sacrificing logistical issues

December 14th, 2011, 11:38 PM
Krakow is a well known city in this part of Europe so i think name recognition and familiarity has something to do with it for sure. Germans and Gdansk - well..... I would've figured the Italians woul've gone for a base on the Crimea or somewhere warmer nice water front location - that's b my first choice hehehe. Ukrainian babes in bikinies and nice warm breeze + caviar, Berlusoni would've made sure Italy goes to Crimea if he were still around I'm sure of it. Femdom would just love that one.

All teams but England made very logical and natural choice. Poland is EU country, close to home. Gdansk and Krakow are touristic centers. 3 teams from group B will only have 1 game in Kharkiv, and Lviv is very close to Poland. As to Holland, if they make it to the knock-out phase they will be playing in Poland.

But. England is clearly a clinical case. Not only they picked arguably the worst training base out there (the best hotel, though) , but they have real prospect of 2rh flying to all of their games.

I am afraid the real reason is that those posterboys want to pose to as many tabloids as possible. It's a showbiz, you know.

Yup, in addition all the roads leading to the city from the Polish border have been repaved apparently, which is good news. I do however fear of what these roads will look like after the winter :ohno: Lots of heavy trucks and traffic goes through there and the roads are not collision free, plus single lane in each direction.

One may also question the quality of the repaved roads. Nevertheless, good to see that something was done :)

I hope. right after the Euro, construction of the motorway Krakovets-Lviv will finally start, so the tracks won't kill the road too fast.

What is really disappointing is the cross-border rail connection. There is no express train between Lviv and Krakow, and Kyiv-Warsaw train is a joke (18 hrs vs. 8 hrs Kyiv-Moscow)

Actually, it's a matter of some controvercy right now. There is a state program that was supposed to finance up to 1000 LAZ buses and trolleybuses fort Euro-cities. As of now, only Kharkiv and Donetsk took advantage of it. The mostly order trolleybuses, not buses. About 300 between two of them. Kyiv has its own credit line from EBRD, and they ordered something else (Bogdan +MAZ) + 70 LAZ trolleybuses. With Lviv its' a bit grotesque: givbent that tha plant is situated in Lviv you would think that they would be enthusiastic about the program. in fact , there all kind of scandels of obscure nature. Hopefulyy, they will end up with ~100 buses and trollybuses. Lviv desparately need these for Euro: unlike three otrher cities, its stadium is outsied the city, and one needs to transport 30K people there.

P.S. Rzeszów airport is fantastic!

Although Kraków will not host any matches during the Euro 2012, it has officially become Poland's 5th Euro 2012 host city :)

Here is an article presenting the details (onluy in Polish):

http://krakow.gazeta.pl/krakow/1,35798,10864152,Krakow_piatym_polskim_gospodarzem_Euro_2012.html#ixzz1hLizYrHW

In summary:

-Kraków will be included (as Poland's 5th Euro 2012 city) in videos, articles etc. promoting Poland.
-The city will be granted rights to use the official logo.
-UEFA, for the time of the tournaments will 'decorate' the city with it's logos and flags.
-100 000 fans from all over Europe are expected to visit the city for the tournaments.
-600 reporters from all over the world from many broadcasting stations will be based in Kraków.

Why not broadcast from Warsaw?

Why not broadcast from Warsaw?

I'm sure a lot of them will as well however, because the English, Dutch and Italian national representations will be training in Kraków, much of the attention will be on Kraków. In addition, none of the Euro 2012 cities (both in Poland and Ukraine) can really compete with Kraków when it comes to tourism competitiveness. It's simply a popular city and many of those who will come will simply choose Kraków because they have heard of it.

Still, I don't think the question is strange. I know football fans will use the Kyiv public transport and didn't wrote about limousines. I just was wondered about very long "stations presentation" (don't know which is located near the stadium, how far to the stadium, there were just many city stations). Something like "groceries presentation" - showing some shops located somewhere in the city cause fans must eat.

you fail so much here...

And why exactly? Your first post was OK, new metro station opened but then why do you quote form another thread a bunch of large photos of long time existing stations? Where they refurbished for Euro 2012 or what? No, they are as they were, so what have these photos to do with the PREPARATIONS? You could have just put a link to the thread where you've found these photos, not quote them all, so anybody interested in how does Kyiv metro look could check. If we post here photos of all existing infrastructure from all host cities, the thread will be chocked. Not everybody has lightning fast internet connection.

For the Polish forumers, an interesting article about Euro 2012 preparations in Ukraine. It seems like it was initially published in Ukraine (Dniepropietrowsk) by a Ukrainian author.

This version is in Polish, last part of the article 'Co Komu po Euro' is very interesting.

...a totally biased article. Its author from Dnipropetrovsk (this city has lost its right to host Euro 2012). People in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Donetsk & Lviv have a different view.;)

And why exactly? Your first post was OK, new metro station opened but then why do you quote form another thread a bunch of large photos of long time existing stations?

Double fail...my godness.:lol::lol:

Anyone know if Warsaw is planing on building new metro lines in the future besides the 2nd one?

yes, as for today we know how whole second line and part of 3rd line will look like (probably it will take another 5-8 years to construct it all) :

there are plannes for third line, but not officially accepted :

here you can see third line in the city center marked on red (it's proposed route and may change a bit, although I think it will stay more or less like presented below) :

Is it true that, according to the article, water is provided for limited periods of time ? If yes - is this a common problem or just a local, temporary exception ?

sorry for OT

in addition to metro an important rapid transit system in Warsaw is SKM (Warsaw's metropolitan rail system) :

the route connecting Warsaw's Chopin (Okęcie) airport with the city center will be opened soon - there is an underground station below the airport - here you can see a bit outdated photos :

Its not temporary, and its a common problem. Water hours have been in place for many years now.

5-8 years estimate for finishing of 2nd and 3rd lines is an unwarranted optimism.

Yeah, this article is totally unobjective. But can you provide us links to other opinions from Ukrainian's newspapers (it may be in russian or ukrainian language)? THX

I don't know if this has already been posted but Warsaw underground ordered some really fancy trains from Siemens/BMW which will be available for football fans during the tournament.

I said second line and part of third line :

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2f/Warszawa_metro_plan1.svg/597px-Warszawa_metro_plan1.svg.png

it is possible and probable till 2020 or even sooner. In 2013-2014 the most difficult central part will be ready, additional parts towards Bródno and Bemowo shall be constructed much faster and in the same time - of course will we see.

Given the delays already present, I wouldn't be surprised to see the central part being opened as late as in 2015. Well, we'll see what happens next, obviously it also depends on what the next European budget looks like. I just don't think 2020 is anywhere close to being a realistic date for the whole 2nd line to be finished.

Water is limited in smaller cities, in big cities like Kyiv or Donetsk there is nothing like this, at least in central parts.
