In the preface by Anna Tibaijuka
Of the 3 billion urban dwellers today, it is estimated that 1 billion are slum dwellers. What is worse, if we continue with business as usual that figure is set to double by 2030. If ever there was a time to act, it is now.

When hearing about things like Global Warming, the AIDS epidemic and now this, I always tell myself that we, as a people, are too advanced and intelligent to do something about it. I still believe that whatever crap is thrown at us as a civilization can be solved with just a little bit of patience and unity.

Sadly there are solutions, corrupt governments in developing nations take in the money and do nothing but paint false pictures of progress. also, prolonged charity fosters poverty, while economic solutions heal it. like i said these countries have bloated commisioners who make it difficult for people to start businesses or take out loans. too much red tape.
people, there are solutions, powerful people just dont reinforce it :(
well at least the majority of urban dwellers dont live in slums.

I am interested in what they refer to as "urban". It can vary greatly just as cities can.
Our largest cities are in the west may have millions of people but it is relative.
Dacca has about 15 million but when you consider that Bangledesh has 150,000,000 in a country the size of Colorado.
