never would of thought a modern glass office tower would be allowed to be erected up against such an historic bldg?
Maroon Grown May 3rd, 2007, 12:59 AM ^^ i think glass compliments historic buildings much better than concrete.

neilo63 November 28th, 2007, 09:22 AM I am a big fan of this little one.!
duke November 29th, 2007, 12:07 PM This building has what must be fairly unusual these days - an external open set of firestairs on the side of the building that links with Westpac.

No. The one I mentioned is on the side of the building that extends beyond the height of the roof of the Westpac building.

Anyone know who's moving in here?

Are the stairs still open? I haven't been to this corner of town lately but looking at the DA, the plans seem to suggest that the fire stair that joins the Bank of NSW building to this development are the original stairs of the existing building. I'm not too sure if it's even possible to get away with open fire stairs in buildings of this size/class, mainly because the BCA often requires fire stairs to be fire isolated and pressurised. But who knows, where there's a will, there's a way.
Anyway, for a more typically sized infill development, this one has managed to get it right - the scale and proportions work nicely with the adjacent buildings, and the building itself doesn't try too hard to be different (a highly underrated design feature), or for that matter, too similar to its heritage neighbours (a la Casino Towers horrible quasi-sandstone cladding).
Brizzy-Mike January 30th, 2008, 03:06 AM Could have done something to tie.
KJBrissy June 26th, 2008, 11:44 AM This has now been completed.
To me it is quite an awkward looking building.
