Abadan used to be so classy... such a shame it is not being re-built quicker, it's almost 20 years since the war ended and one of Iran's richest provinces is still bearing heavy scars from the war...

Thanks for the pics Persian Cat

Did not expect Abadan to look like this. Outside Iran there is a big Abadani population and some are financially really successful. Specially in LA, Germany, France and the UK. Abadani people are extremely proud of Abadan. I would have expected some of the ultra rich ones outside Iran to have invested in Abadan, to rebuild it.

:ohno: dear asif iqbal all that oil and gas wealth goes into all of the mullahs puckets!! not the people!!! even Tehran that we can is atleast in better shape then other cities in iran is still struggling with unemployment, women rights and lots and lots more things.. but IRAN WILL BE FREE AND WE AREN'T THAT FAR FROM IT!!

^Alright, calm down mate... we have all heard it a million times from each other on this forum, we all know.. You do not need to include an anti-IRI rant in every post... so chill :)

As I expressed in post 5 Abadan's redevelopment is taking too long... In fact is that not the entire point of this thread and those pics?

Khuzestan is one of Iran's most richest provinces thanks to massive oil fields... unfortunately the revenue is not being re-invested in the area... Yet the thing some like Pooya should consider is the massive subsidy the Iranian government puts on things like basic food stuffs and petroleum (nearly 90% subsidy on petrol) Where does this subsidy money come from if it is being embezzled by the government?

The true wastage of money by the Iranian government is not by it being pocketed or used for various subsidies to keep the economy afloat, but by it being sent off to other nations to support half arsed/pointless causes... nuff said.

Asif, you don't know what war really is. Not a mountain of gold could repair damage from bosnian war, and Iran-Iraq war was far worse. :ohno:

gamayun im against all wars, against killing and innocents its not about how much i know about war what are you trying to say?

i never said that money replaces lost lives all i said was that oil and gas money should help rebuild the country your assumption questions your own credability rather than mine

you should be surprised if they DO build the place..:bash:, the only thing they would construct in this place is a oil drawin machine (soz i duno the technical name)....:bash::bash:

Well Abadan was not totally rebuilt because it became a ghost town. Almost the entire population fled and never came back after they settled in Mashhad, Tehran and abroad. The industry was also moved to the east as it was considered too vulnerable to any future attacks from Iraq. It would become a less popular place to move to for the same reason as well as no new jobs being created there. Therefore it is now only a minor port and a backwater of a town. It is a sad sight but definately not something you can blame the government for, no matter what theyre shortcomings. It was Saddam and his backers who did this to Abadan not the IR!

so the place is just milked for the oil... makes perfect sense if you explain it like that lol

Their is a fair population of ~500k so its not exactly deserted nowadays

Thank you dude,

Although I did not live in Abadan passed my 8th. birthday, I always loved the place more than anywhere else. I visited every spring before the war.
I loved milkbar, annex, cinema taj, and bashgah naft.
