I've been to Trier many times. I like it pretty much there :)

Too bad their soccer team got relegated to Germany's divison 3.

The interesting thing about the Roman Gate is that if they cleaned all the pollution off it, it would be difficult to call it the "Black Gate" any more.

let's have a view to the eastern outskirts of trier. all these shots have been taken from the geographical building of the university of trier.

first 6 pics show the petrisberg. used to be a french military area. now modern residential development. behind these big colored buildings, it goes downhill right into the city center which i showed you on the first page.

It's been 20 years since I've visted Trier. Really a beautiful drive along the river from Bonn. I found the city to be very beautiful. Some of these buildings have some strong Dutch characteristics.

Das sind Superbilder! Great pictures!

I've worked near Trier for half a year in 2006 and 2007, and I've visited Trier many times. Especially the old market square is nice.

^^ Yes, you may:). I've worked in a holiday park called Landal GreenParks Sonnenberg in Leiwen an der Mosel. It's a 20 minute ride from Trier.

I quite like the new midrise developments in the city. Petrisberg seems to be a very tasteful development though before I finalise judgement I'd like to see some street shots. Even the 60's areas don't look bad from a distance, though again, I'd like to see them close up.

Beautiful town, in my favorite part of the world. I could retire there very happy. I got very lost in that town once on my way from Nurburg (my favorite place on the planet) to Montpellier.

One of most favorite cities in the world. I had one of the best holidays ever in Trier. It really is beautiful, and the people were fantastic.:banana: The weather was amazing and the things to see and do, the food, everything was just brilliant.

Well worth a good look.

Wow, thanks for the endorsement Davee, I'll definitely have to get myself there now when I'm next in Europe, (since we share views on places in France I'd imagine your tastes are fairly similar to mine). :)

I've been there three times when I was younger. Must have been in 2000, 2001 and 2002 or so.

Trier is a nice city, but those suburbs are just plain ugly :bash:

Awesome photos!

I have a friend who grew up in Trier and she said that she used to play in Roman ruins on the outskirts of town everyday while growing up.

i studied Geography at Trier university from 1998 to 2004. Back in the 90s much of the area shown on the picture was wasteland. All these little houses were constructed for a fair in 2003.

http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/8759/tr000on2.jpg

from 1998 to 2000 I've been living in these little green shoe boxes at the left center of the picture. They were constructed in 1981 whereas the the other buildings date back to 1975-78 except the brick buiilt cantina (1991) to the right
Brings back great memories.

My beloved hometown! :)

But those city outskirts, I have to say, are pretty ugly compared to the beautiful historical center.
