Giraffe Manor - Nairobi

Exclusive, spacious and elegant, it is the only place in the world that you can feed giraffe from your second floor bedroom window, over the lunch table and at the front door. Guests can feed and photograph the giraffe and the warthogs at the Manor and wander through the adjoining forest to view the bushbuck, dik-dik and other wildlife.

One bedroom in the manor has all of Karen Blixen’s (of ‘Out of Africa’ fame) furniture that she gave to the manor when she left Kenya.

I have been to Mt Kenya Safari Club and I have to say that it is a great place to hang out. Many of these spots are great to relax much more than hotels that I have been to all over the world

Simmers is an open air bar and restaurant right in the middle of the C.B.D. on Kenyatta Avenue. It has been reputed to be the bar with the most beer sales per week in the whole of East Africa.:cheers:

The Aberdares Golf and Country Club is just outside my hometown of Nyeri. You can actually play golf here with wild animals (giraffes, gazelles etc.) roaming about nearby.

Eating Crocodile meat At the Carnivore restaurant.You can practically eat any type of game meat at this restaurant(voted top 50 best restaurants in the world).Some of the dishes avaiolable,

1.Crocodile

5.Ostritch (my Favourite!)

The night I was there I had zebra, Crocodile, Buffalo, Ostrich, chicken.
I like the zebra better than Ostrich.

Blue Post Hotel is situated just 25 km from Nairobi's C.B.D in Thika (Kenya's main industrial town). Its just off the main Thika dual carriage highway towards Central Kenya (highway A2).

This is a rather crappy picture showing the landscaped car park and typical thatched roof of the hotel but that isn't the main interesting feature of the hotel...

I only have stats for 2006. International tourist arrivals were 1.5 million but this value has risen and I guess it stands between 1.7 to 1.9 million if you look at the past trends in growth.

It has nothing to do with the devil. It got its name from the numerous Geysers that dot the park. (The steam from the geysers is used to produce geothermal power).

I think its the only park where you can ride a bike as you view animals and its other attractions. eg. Fischer's tower-the rock edifice between the valley walls shown in the pic above-is ideal for Rock climbing expeditions.:)

What are you people doing in that country to make it so beautiful. Ill try to stop by mombassa or nairobi for a couple of days on my way to Addis Ababa. I think there should be greater links between ethiopia-kenya. In infrastructure and business. All our neigbors are disfunctional except for Kenya and we can use an industrious and talented neighbor.

Kenya is indeed beautifull but so are other African countries. With the resources we have, we should do better for the population. I will be visiting Kenya between October and December and I am taking 2 digital cameras along with enough storage to take a few hundred pics. I will definately be in Nairobi for over a week and I will visit the Mt Kenya region to visit my 102 year old grandpa. Mombasa is one of the areas that I would like to visit but I am not sure I will make it just because I will be their for only three weeks.

Last time I was home, I spotted a nice new restaurant off the Nanyuki-Nyeri highway. Its called the Trout Tree. The whole restaurant is built on top of a huge Mugumo tree with a river running beneath it-with trout,of course, in it. If you love trout, this is a nice place to have it.

Lamu is an island town to the north of Mombasa that has managed to retain its historical and coastal cultural identity. Most buildings are 500 years old or more, there are no cars allowed on the island. It has recently been named as a world heritage site.:)

That is a different type of restaurant for sure. I did not like their Crocodile, but I like their Zebra the night I was there.

Wow truly amazing pics!
its hard to believe with all these nice hotels Kenya is still facing a shortage of beds coz of the souring number of tourists jetting into the country.Investors are not able to keep up with the demand,because apparently local tourism is also picking up,local tourists are competing for bed space with foreign tourists.
IF Donald Trump only knew there was money to be made in Kenya! (hehe maybe a Trump towers Nairobi,Mombasa)

Well. the lake is near lake naivasha. if you guys remember your GHC it was one of the smaller lakes on the floor of the rift valley. it compensates for its size by a spectacular collection of flamingoes as the pictures show. My dad once took us on a tour of the rift valley and the place is just too too wow. the climax was climbing mount longonot. the feeling when you get to the top is amazing. i urge you all to try it. its only about 20 bob for kenyans and you will love every minute.

Thanx for the pics Nairoberry. Those Travelers beach hotel bring back some lovely memories. I remember swimming from the reception area upto the sea. It was like going down a river with even a small slide like an artificial waterfall. Man! It was just lovely.:)

Travellers Beach!i love the Hotel.Has memories,I was in form 1 first time i was there.And i think i stayed in The swimmingpool longer than any other place during our stay there.thanx for the pics.

I also agree, Kenya has many superb beaches and resorts-- both Mombasa and Malindi ( have seen hundreds of their pics both in SSC and Yahoo Image Search ) are very enchanting with cystal clear waters ( high-quality beaches ) and this put our Pennang and Langkawi in malaysia entirely down ( resorts are nice but the quality of beach isn't good at all ) . Not to mention magical Lamu and Peter Island in the far north ! :banana:

I hope that tourism authority in Kenya not only targetting high-end travellers but also to cater for backpackers and budget travellers too. ( like me :D )

The Great wilderbeast migration-Maasai mara. Its now considered to be one of the seven wonders of the natural world as thousands of wilderbeast cross from the Serengeti in Tanzania and into the Maasai Mara in Kenya every year.
(Im sure you have seen this on virtually every nature channel on TV.)

I heard that they have a plan to build on the migration path, hopefully that's just a rumour. Strange but few Kenyans get to see some of these great places because advertisers seem to target the foreign tourist and even then, I think they do not do a very effective job. Kenya should be a year round vacation spot and hopefully the tourism board will do a better jod of marketting different parts of the country. I am very excited about the water based tourism that is targeted for Kisumu along with some improvements planned for the Nakuru (rift valley) area. We can be a world class economy in less than 30 yrs if we continue on the same path.

Sweet! Kenya is awesome with nice world class destination facilities. Very organized. Just my observation, it looks like West African countries have a lot of catching up to do, especially when compared to east and southern african countries.

I was in the Mara last year doing some community work with the Maasai. I didnt stay at any of the fancy hotels but had the chance to briefly visit a few. The place was just awsome. Maybe I have a thing for open spaces but the Kenyan wilderness is just something else altogether. It takes your breath away.:cheers:

If you think one lone elephant walking through a camp is scary, try being followed around by a leopard at night. That really got to me (though Im told they normally don't harm anyone if you keep your cool).

I am speechless. Kenya is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! I knew the tourist infrastructure was developed but I didn't know it was to this scale. Wow, what an eye-opener.
And that beach at Diani is unbelievable. The sand is blindingly white! I have to go there.
