Is the design Retro posted the design they are going with?

I saw some pics somewhere of a model that looked like a big version of Prairie Pointe in Central Station. The post said it was a model of Silver Tower....

The pic above is what's on both the official website (www.silvertowerchicago.com) and the brokers website (http://www.atproperties.com/07/devDetail.php?id=67). Would be shocked if it turned out looking any different.

Well I guess if you got to copy something in Chicago, it might as well be Contemporaine and Skybridge.

I just hope they don't copy the construction quality of Skybridge as well. I hear nothing but negative grumblings from people who looked at units there.

Retro only posted shots of the back of the model, which DOES look similar to Prairie Pointe in massing. You can see a little bit of the front in one of the shots, though, which does look like the rendering as far as I can tell.

Hi all -

First time poster, long time follower of this site (and this thread). Architecture & real estate runs in my family, and I purchased a unit in this building as soon as sales center opened up (ARG! The delays).

I have a number of pictures I took at the site on 9/16/2007, but I can't figure out how to post them on here :bash:

Can someone help? I've read the FAQ section, and attempted to add the pics a number of times but to no avail. I'll edit this post and add the pics once I figure out how to do this.

Sorry for the initial tease :bowtie:

P.S. I'll be taking pics every 1-2 weeks depending on progress at the site and will add onto this thread.

hi :hi: add your pictures to a site such as www.photobucket.com then you can add the code in your reply. let us know if this helps. I'd love to see your shots

Thanks Chicagophotoshop! That site did the trick.

Photos taken on 9/16/2007 (sorry, not the best shots as I pulled over really quick on my way to the office - they'll be better next time around):

I got over the fence this time, but way too many materials and supplies are in the area so it's tough to get good angles and wide shots from the ground. I'll have to start climbing on top of equipment & trailers next time.

No, that loft bulding is not being torn down. It is the Bowne Building, located at the southeast corner of Ohio Street and Orleans Street.

Am so confused. I thought this was being built in a Parking lot that has been open for years? That building on the same lot to the west use to have a restuarant/bar in it which I could see change through out the years. So are they going to be tearing that building down (same lot west of the present building sight)?

I went by this daily on the brown line. I remember the lot and when I saw them rip it up and start doing prep work thinking "thank god".

I'm pretty sure they didn't tear anything down, but I was out of town for 9 weeks this summer, and could have missed something.

I'm assuming (hopefully) that the Bowne building won't be used for parking.

Does anybody know for sure?

spyguy
November 11th, 2007, 08:37 PM
The first floor is surely retail space. I thought the above floors were going to be residential after they failed to get any takers for office space. So perhaps the parking for the Bowne building will be in Silver Tower's garage...

first they had balcony w/o sun (northside) and now their view is blocked by a parking lot.
... not to forget abt the exhaust fumes.

nonetheless i like this project; brings more height to this area

I don't see any exposed concrete, at least not from 3 blocks away. Most of the concrete has already been painted white. Not sure about any cladding, but it looks like they're almost done. You can see a couple corners on the very top that are not yet painted.

The top few floors are staggered a bit, and the balconies do add some depth, which means it's not a completely boring rectangle. And, most importantly, it's not beige. I think it's above-average filler for River North.
