Asbjoern August 19th, 2011, 02:00 AM Thanks for the update, K3! Construction is really firing up in the inner docklands. At this early stage it is mostly boring ground work though.
Never give up August 19th, 2011, 03:15 PM One of the illustrations from the Multimediahus plans is this of the last section of the reopened Aarhus river/stream in front of Europahuset, the HQ of C.F.Møllers architectural practice. The road out to Dynarken will be closed and all traffic from the old town will be diverted over the bridge to Mindebrogade on the left.
http://i53.************/2ninnyx.jpg
and in this plan you can see the reopened river, the new "letbane" tracks and the new tram stop under the Multimediahus.

ShieldCastle September 9th, 2011, 05:14 PM I guess this is pretty exciting news for Aarhus and the New University Hospital. :)
http://www.building-supply.dk/article/view/68204/milliardprojekt_klar_til_udbud
http://f.building-supply.dk/2r3bcws4vh9c2hqb.gif
Byggeriet i tal
Never give up September 19th, 2011, 09:59 PM Aarhus Kommune, Steen og Strøm and DSB Ejendomsudvikling have started the process for the development of the old DSB bus garages and workshops, the bus terminal and the track area behind the main station. The plans include a new bus terminal over the track with passenger acess to the ticket hall, an extension to Bruuns Galleri over the bus terminal. A housing and office development is proposed for the remainder of the site.

ramblersen September 30th, 2011, 04:24 PM ^^
OMG that is so tacky! And reminds me a bit of a stiletto heeled shoe.
moveteam September 30th, 2011, 05:01 PM ^^ Heh I would prefer that to Robert, though.
Pisling September 30th, 2011, 05:09 PM WTF? It looks like something from outer space has crash landed in Aarhus. Perhaps that NASA satellite... Well, it's better than Store Robert, but it still isn't particularly good.
ramblersen September 30th, 2011, 05:15 PM I would prefer neither but this is even worse than Store Robert imo. Too much theme park for more liking with that far-fetched and sad viking romanticism. Vut in general I don't get that whole obsession with a "new landmark=. Lighthouse, and the high quality of the area in general, will be exavtly the landmark Aarhus needs.
Pisling September 30th, 2011, 05:41 PM ^^ When I see large scale art/sculptures like these, in maybe 95 out of 100 cases, I tend to think: This shit is neither interesting, beautiful nor relevant. Maybe I just don't get the artsy point, but who the hell thinks an unfinished red brickwall is eye candy? Or large piles of steel and multi-coloured glass roofs... The Eiffel Tower is distinct and good looking. The same goes for Atomium, the monolith in Vigelandsanlegget and stuff like those cylinders at that eco boulevard in Madrid. And many others of course. But most of the art stuff out there is still pretty lousy IMO.
And I agree, Ramblersen: If they want a solid landmark for Aarhus, they should just focus on getting Lighthouse build instead.
Pisling September 30th, 2011, 05:50 PM BTW, when I was (trash)talking about stupid multi-coloured glass roofs, I was refering to Kærlighedsøen in Ørestad, not Your Panorama Rainbow at ARoS (which I think is really cool). Just to get things straight.
moveteam September 30th, 2011, 05:57 PM ^^ Amen! I have to say it did look better when I posted from the train in direct sunlight.

With all this exciting development on Aarhus harbour front, it would be a great idea and not so expensive, if they included the short light rail line from Nørreport, along Sverigesgade, to the end of the development site. I am convinced that this would kick start even more projects.
It would also be a useful "turn-back siding" for trams from the Odder direction instead of taking up valuable track space at Aarhus H

Never give up November 3rd, 2011, 07:21 PM Here are some plans from DSB Property, Aarhus Kommune and Steen and Strøm (owners of Bruuns Galleri) of the proposed bus terminal and extension of Bruuns Galleri. See my post on this thread nr. 261.
http://www.arkitekturaarhus.dk/2011/06/ny-busterminal-udvidelse-af-bruuns.html
First plan is at street and station hall level (over the railway tracks)
http://i41.************/4rx24n.jpg
and this plan is at the first floor level of Bruuns Galleri. The idea is that the cost of the deck over the tracks can be shared by the 2 main participents.

In fact there is if you measure it per capita.
Today the four prequalified teams for the competition of a new busterminal and of the old terminal were revealed. Surprisingly few architectural firms from Aarhus were prequalified, but all are strong candidates so I look forward to Spring when the winner is revealed.
- Cobe og Transform (totalrådgivere), Søren Jensen rådgivende ingeniørfirma og MIC (underrådgivere), Tom Nielsen og ICP (konsulenter).
- Tegnestuen Vandkunsten (totalrådgiver), Rum, Tyréns, UIWE og Oxford Research (underrådgivere).
- Holscher Arkitekter (totalrådgiver), Snøhetta, Arkitekt Kristine Jensens Tegnestue, Hausenberg, Cenergia (underrådgivere).

Asbjoern November 7th, 2011, 10:15 PM From: http://www.pplusp.dk/projekter/boliger/veri-parken-altaninddaekninger/

C. F. Møller has uploaded visulizations of the only highrise under construction in Denmark at the moment to their website. The Bestseller facility on Aarhus Docklands:Isn't the second of the "De 5 Søstre" in Vejle under construction too at the moment? If not it has just been completed. Also, if by highrise you mean the old 12 floor or 35 meters, then we also have one of the two "Twins" UC here in Herning.
Asbjoern November 9th, 2011, 03:14 PM Thanks for the updates.

Exactly. That's why we need an update of the all new Danish highrises thread. :)
mlm November 9th, 2011, 03:20 PM ^^ Yeah I know. :) Only problem is that atleast 80% of the projects from post one has a status of "unknown" or On Hold (like the "lett" building).
Asbjoern November 9th, 2011, 04:58 PM I think it might be an idea to find a more permanent solution for the list of Danish highrises (Regardless of status) that has only grown in quantity over the years. We should consider making a collaborative database that stores this kind of information IMO.
aarhusforever November 9th, 2011, 05:20 PM ^^ I second that :)
aarhusforever November 9th, 2011, 05:22 PM ...then we also have one of the two "Twins" UC here in Herning.
Do you have any recent photos of this, mlm? :) Are they only going to build one of the highrises?
mlm November 9th, 2011, 06:35 PM ^^ Unfortenately I don't ahve anything recent, but I'll try to take some new ones soon. The plan is still to build both, I just think they need to sell more units in the first before they start building the second.

Back then I visited every highrise in Denmark, expect one, to take photos. That list is also outdated now though.
When I kept our Danish highrise list updated I spend quite some time on it, looking for new projects all the time and so on. It's not that I have lost interest in highrise buildings, but I just don't feel like spending much time updating a list like that at the moment - specially when it's extremely hard to find any information/updates for most of them.
If you want to start a new list or database here I'll support you as much as I can, but atm I don't have the time/interest in doing it myself.

Okay, I'll do some thinking and play around with prototyping. If people here at the boards are willing to participate in such a collaborative effort then please let me know.
Asbjoern November 9th, 2011, 09:32 PM This evening the local plan for the conversion of the closed Ceres Brewery was approved by the city council. The local plan was changed late in the process in order to preserve two buildings that were initially meant to be demolished even though they both had a high preservation value. Now four buildings are preserved and for the developers the extra preservation of the two buildings came unexpected, since they had already had these visualizations by their architectural partner Arkitema made of a new office building:

Schnoor17 November 19th, 2011, 10:51 AM I think the location of the New Scandic hotel is almost perfect. In the middle of the inner city close to shopping, public transportation, attractions and offices.
Only problem I can see is with parking, but who knows maybe there is a plan for this also??

From lokalplanen:
§ 5. Trafikforhold
Stk. 3.

EDK_DK November 30th, 2011, 04:43 PM @Asbjoern, aarhusforever, K3 - etc.
Would you like me to change the (OLD) frontpage in this thread and include links to all the new threads about Aarhus?
As of now it's totally outdated!
edit: if one of you want to do it yourself, just pm me the code.
Asbjoern November 30th, 2011, 10:25 PM It would be a very good idea to update the front page. I've created two threads today for you to include so it will give a more complete picture.
Hope you or someone else get the time to do it.

aarhusforever December 1st, 2011, 07:53 AM I just stumbled upon this project on Christiansbjerg. I guess It's not a very big project, but there has been a lot of demolishing going on behind the new building. Perhaps this project isn't that small?

aarhusforever December 5th, 2011, 09:32 PM I had totally forgotten about this project on Trøjborg. Last time I was in the nabourhood, preparation had just started and now it is almost finished. It's a nice little project, but it is IMO only interesting, because the nabourbuilding was evacuated during construction. The nabourbuilding in now empty and is to be demolished :ohno:

But another project next to Urban Mediaspace looks promising. Aaboulevarden 11 is currently being expanded whilst at the same time receiving a major redesign.

The business property dealer Colliers International writes:

Tegnestuen Vandkunsten A/S (totalrådgiver), RUM A/S, Tyréns AB, UIWE og Oxford Research (underrådgivere)
Holscher Arkitekter (totalrådgiver), Snøhetta, Arkitekt Kristine Jensens Tegnestue, Hausenberg, Cenergia (underrådgivere)
Arkitektfirmaet C.F. Møller A/S (totalrådgiver), COWI A/S, ÅF Hansen & Henneberg (underrådgivere)

JakobF December 27th, 2011, 02:07 AM I live in Åbyhøj, close to the new elder care center Sifsgården. That buliding is an eyesoar! I'm surprised they managed to build such an ugly building, when the municipality at the same time were able to build such beautiful elder care buildings as the ones at Vestervang.
On the other hand, it is nice to see some progress in your own "backyard". The new Rema 1000/Nordea across the street is a big improvement compared to the concrete building it is replacing. Then we just need to get a new building that fills out the gab between the two buildings where Netto is placed today, on the other side of Silkeborgvej.
aarhusforever December 27th, 2011, 05:51 AM ^^I think the new elder care center needs one more floor :ohno: The new Rema 1000/Nordea should also be at least 3, if not 4 floors.
Welcome to the forum, JakobF

Asbjoern January 27th, 2012, 11:30 AM A new hotel is coming to Aarhus in AarhusKarlshamns former HQ that is next to the city shopping center Bruun's Galleri and Aarhus Central Station. The building is to receive a new floor. I can't think of a more ideal building in Aarhus for hotel use because of its size and close vicinity to the central station. Of course it needs a firm investment in order to reuse it for hotel purposes.
The expansion of the building only requires a dispensation from the current local plan, which is good news because otherwise we would have to wait up to 10 months before the construction could begin.
Good news for Aarhus!

Nyt hotel på vej i Aarhus midtby
Af KIM PAULI
Offentliggjort 26.01.12 kl. 23:30
Oliefabrikkens gamle bygninger i M.P.
Bruuns Gade 25.
Bygningerne i M.P.

Blingchampion March 6th, 2012, 04:37 PM I think JacobF is talking about the project for DSB's old component workshop, and not the bus terminal development competition. Asbjoern said that C.F. Møller, would reveal it last week.

You are right of course. So much going on in Aarhus at once, you get confused.
I have also heard a reliable rumour of something tall on the component workshop site.
Asbjoern March 6th, 2012, 04:54 PM So, Asbjørn, when are they going to unveil the project at Værkmestergade? :)

Never give up March 13th, 2012, 04:37 PM ^^ Wauw it looks great and everything, and excuse me my ignorence, but who's paying for the project ?
Well Bruuns galleri badly needs to expand and there is not much free space nearby, so Steen and Strøm (Bruuns Galleri) and the Aarhus municipality share the cost of building a bus station and 2 floors of shopping over the tracks. Aarhus then gets money from selling the old bus station and DSB rebuilds the present station with their share of the ground sale (workshop site).
I don´t know if the equation balances but there should be something for everybody in this project. :)
Of course the huge advantage of this project is that now the bus station and the railway station will be beside each other and can share facilities and that the proposed light rail project is worked into the project. This can make the developers more interested in starting.
Silkebaronen March 13th, 2012, 04:53 PM That's truly a great project for Aarhus. I hope it will get build quickly. Congrats :)

Asbjoern March 31st, 2012, 05:27 PM Great pictures. Especially the last three.
The constructor A. Enggaard has signed two deals in Aarhus. One for the construction of the infill in Christiansgade by Sky Tower developer Niels Albertsen, which can now start after a lengthy archaeological dig.

The second deal is for the first project at Ceres-grunden namely the large VIA University College Campus Aarhus C for the sum of 780 mio. kroner. With the deal suddenly a large part of the masterplan is under construction. There's no digital article but the news was in JP Aarhus' paper edition today. It should be mentioned that construction awaits a final approval by "Finansudvalget" in the Danish parliament.

I don't think that's true. It has been very active at times. Perhaps some numbers can prove my own positive assumption.
If Aarhus wants its own section, consider it done! I don't think the activity will change (in either direction) to be honest, but at least it will be more organized and visible from the main N&B splash page.

Maybe we should have our own section, but we need more activity and posts then. What do you other Aarhus-guys think...should we give it a try?
Sir.H. April 22nd, 2012, 12:09 PM Maybe we should have our own section, but we need more activity and posts then. What do you other Aarhus-guys think...should we give it a try?
I think a Aarhus-section would be preferable. I find it hard to see why it should harm the activity in here, and since Aarhus is a - for Danish standards - booming town, I think we should give it a try.
Pisling April 22nd, 2012, 12:46 PM I'm also in favor of an Aarhus section. Mostly because I like to keep things in order.
Asbjoern April 22nd, 2012, 12:55 PM A dead forum is no good. It should have at least daily traffic and currently that is not the case for the Aarhus threads.
moveteam April 22nd, 2012, 01:01 PM I'm also in favor of an Aarhus section. Mostly because I like to keep things in order.
Exactly, order is the keyword. Personally I'm in favor of Aarhus getting its own section. Unable to see how it can harm the activity in any way.
I'm back from China some time in May. In the meantime, more opinions on the matter would be great.
Asbjoern April 22nd, 2012, 08:34 PM ^^ Hm, I would say May 20 2013. I don't belive the date 2012 is right...I think Stiften is wrong. But I hope i'm wrong :) I took this photo yesterday.

Jeppe April 23rd, 2012, 06:53 PM New Aarhus School of Architecture + AND
I just found this recently published document about the progress of a new Aarhus School of Architecture. The plans include Center of Architecture and New Design - AND. I think we can expect yet another huge project based on the budget. This must be a prestigues task for architect firms. So we could expect a great building in hopefully 4-5 years time. The document suggests two placements of the new school. One is owned by DSB and one by Aarhus Municipality. My guess would be that it is either next to Godsbanen or at the docklands.

"Gågaden" sounds so provincial, I think it's long enough to be called "Strøget", that would be appropriate also because many aarhusians think of Aarhus as the capital of Jutland ;)
I'm a little impressed the new infill is complete already. Don't believe it's that long time ago the construction started?
Blingchampion June 5th, 2012, 03:31 PM Yes "Strøget" is the official name http://www.stroeget-aarhus.dk/, as it has been, since it was converted into a pedenstrian street.
Its the pedenstrian street from Hovedbanegården to Domkirken.
JakobF June 6th, 2012, 04:30 PM CUBO has been chosen as architects for AU's new biomedical facilities:
http://www.building-supply.dk/article/view/83222/stort_undervisningsbyggeri_praesenteret_i_aarhus
Is it just me, or is it a little boring? I know they can't change much, due to the general architecture of the university, which is beautiful, but this is just logging on to CF Møllers homepage and pressing ctrl+c then ctrl+v (or cmd+c/cmd+v, architects probably use Mac's :) ), in my eyes.
Heres the projects homepage:
http://health.au.dk/aktuelt/byggeri/
aarhusforever June 6th, 2012, 05:42 PM Yes, it's a little boring, but that is ok, when you take the location into consideration IMO :)
Asbjoern June 6th, 2012, 11:04 PM Boring, how can you write that? :) But of course had the building been constructed any other place than The University Park it would be both boring and outdated.
Considering how homogenous most of The University Park is, I think the new building is great though. The semitransparent, tile clad gable will add a new dimension to the architectural variation in The University Park. Kind of a rip-off of ASB's new S-building (same architect) but they are still two different campuses. Just take a look at C. F. Møllers recent Søauditorierne. It adds nothing new to The University Park. So in that regard Cubo's new building is really interesting and it is these details that make or break the quality of buildings in The University Park.
It is truly amazing that Aarhus University continues to expand on and stay true to an architecture that was developed in the 1930's. The iNANO building will be inaugurated this year and the Institute for Biomedicine expected in 2015. The lack of space for future construction is fastly becoming a problem though.
On a related topic. Aarhus University could need "en håndsrækning" from the A.P. Møller & hustru foundation like the 500 mio. DKK Copenhagen University received for their Panum complex. The medical research facility in The New University Hospital still needs to get funded. I find it highly unlikely though: http://www.cfmoller.com/p/Core-Centeret-i-DNU-Det-Nye-Universitetshospital-i-Aarhus-i2649.html
aarhusforever June 7th, 2012, 09:23 AM ^^ I totally agree with you :)

I think the CUBO project is a good choise too. Are there renderings of the other proposals - a link to the jury report perhaps?
Asbjoern June 7th, 2012, 03:01 PM Indeed, a jury report has been published. Unfortunately it vaguely recommends that the gables are changed:
They might still keep the original design.

Asbjoern June 7th, 2012, 08:25 PM Google has updated their satellite imagery in Maps for Denmark. My guess is the new satellite imagery is from June 2011.
The old imagery was perhaps 6 years old if not more so it is refreshing to see Google Maps updated. The construction boom in Aarhus can now be seen clearly with construction sites everywhere but especially in downtown and Skejby. I have taken screenshots from significant development areas in Aarhus the recent years and highlighted the projects. Some projects have been finished for a couple of years, most are still under construction and some have started after June 2011. No planned projects are marked on the maps.

Sir.H. June 8th, 2012, 11:45 PM Great post Asbjoern. However, I think that your guess about the images being from June 2011 is wrong. When you navigate around in the Aarhus-area on Google Earth, it says the following in the bottom left corner of the screen "Dato for billede: 6/1/2011". Since we in Denmark use the so-called "day-month-year-format" for date and time representation, I think these pictures were taken on the 6th of January 2011.
Feel free to reprove me if I'm wrong about this :-)

But Google are Americans and they use month-day-year, which corresponds with 1st of June 2011. As mlm points out this makes sense because it is clearly summer on the images. Also just before Navitas started there was a lot of "spuns" stored at the site. You can see this on the images, and Navitas went under construction in early June. This was the reason for my initial guess. :)

Looking at Jimmy Antonsens pictures of Væksthusene I think the ''glass'' in the greenhouse looks a little bit funny? What kind of material is that? Acrylic? Polycarbonate? Doesn't look like your average run of the mill kind of glass?
Normal transparent glass would have looked better though imho?
But the other stuff is what the plants wants?

I guess you could see the tower as a rare Danish monument to yimby-ism: Arne Jacobsen wanted no tower on the building but he was told to piss off if he didn't add one by the city council that wanted a 'real' city hall.
Alternatively, it could of course be percieved as a typical Danish case of small-minded and arrogant provinsialism to interfere in the architect's work like that - although with a quite happy ending.
