How come nigeria dont have wild lifes like kenya and south africa does.

It is said that some animals eg. the giraffe used to roam over the entire continent. Then climatic change occured, the Sahara desert began to expand and most wildlife ceased to roam much of north Africa (in this case Northern Nigeria.)

Also East and Southern Africa have vast expanses of savannah grasslands and woodlands in which most of Africas large mammals seem to thrive in. Nigeria may have less of these savannah grasslands as I think the south of the country is quite heavily settled by people (Farms, oil mining activities and cities).

Wase Rock located some 216 kilometers South-East of Jos in Wase Town is a beautiful, massive dome-shaped inselberg and stands at a staggering height 450 meters. According to available records, it is one of the only five breeding places for the Rossy (White pelican birds in Africa). The government now protects about 321 acres of land around the rock as a bird sanctuary and for wildlife development.

Here's some pictures of Akosombo dam in Ghana. I was here last weekend on my trip to Ghana, Accra. Lovely tourist attraction.
Nestled along the Volta Lake, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world. I am told the dam was built at a cost of $450 million
by Kwame Nkrumah back in the days (1960s). It even has a small island. Its so beautiful, don't miss it when you are in Ghana.

OGUN
Ogun is the God of War, Energy and Metal

Ogun keeps matter in motion

Ogun is the sustainer of life

Ogun lives in the knife, and with it, clears a path for man. Ogun is the force within your computer. Ogun is technology.

Ogun is the force of gravity, the force of attraction.

Ogun represents the tools that shape man, bringing out a person's potential, enhancing one's life.

Ogun controles life and death. Ogun is our heart beat and the final contraction during birth. Ogun is auto accidents and gun wounds.

Ogun is the warrior, hunter and farmer.

Ogun is the God of loyalty and life long friendships.

Ogun is the master of secrets, skills, crafts, professions and creations.

Oggun is a warrior Saint who lives in the forest hunting. Oggun is a Saint with a fiery and violent character. One looks for his support when in war to win quicker. The sons of Oggun must obey since he punishes with the sword. Oggun is the blacksmith since he received the iron from Obatala, who gave it to him when Oggun was going through hardships.

Pataki

When Oggun hunted alone he never obtained anything due to his hunting technique. When he saw an animal he began slashing his way through the forest but, by the time he got there, the animal had already been scared away by the noise. Meanwhile, Ochosi wasn´t having any luck hunting either. When he saw an animal he would shoot an arrow and hit, but because of the dense forest he could never make it to the carcass. Therefore, both of them were starving and ,individually, went to get a Seeing from Orunla. Orunla worked both of them and told each one to leave the work in a large tree that was in the middle of the forest. Oggun arrived first and left the work next to the tree. However, he decided to take a nap at the foot of the tree since he was feeling tired. Later, Ochosi came by but, not seeing Oggun sleeping, accidentally put the package on top of Oggun. At this, Oggun woke up agressively and stood up. Before they could begin fighting, however, an animal was heard near and Ochosi instinctively fired an arrow at him. When seeing the animal hit, Oggun slashed his way to the body. They cooked the animal and ate. Both of them being happy and well eaten, they decided to live together from thereon.

Ceremonies

Oggun of Ifá can be received anytime with the ceremony of Warriors. Oggun of Ocha is received only when he is the Guardian Angel.

Thanx for the info. Many people, (me included) didn't know much about Nigeria's wildlife. You guys should do more to let the world know more about what Nigeria has to offer. At least the Nigerian government is trying to diversify their revenues away from oil, lets hope tourism is among the other areas they will focus on.

Okomu National Park is a true wilderness area, bounded by two rivers and containing a number of small lakes. Visitors may take any one of a number of short walks or longer hikes in the company of a knowledgeable guide, climb up to the two tree-houses to view the breathtaking spectacle of the rainforest from above, or simply sit at the Ecoresort and watch the wildlife from their own balconies.

Okomu contains an abundance of endangered plants, animals and birds. The National Park in which the Ecoresort is situated, consists of more than 100 square kilometres of mahoganies and other trees, and is the largest and least disturbed remaining example of rain-forest in South-Western Nigeria.
