Thessaloniki is also planning the creation of a similar Tecnological park:

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED INVESTMENT PLAN

Introduction
Technopolis Thessalonikis is a business centre including high-tech companies, companies rendering services for research and education in the field of high technology.
The planning of Technopolis aims at creating an area of uniform and cohesive character, described by top-quality public places and the presence of grassy areas combined with good operation and organization, i.e., an area, which will ensure an atmosphere of a pleasant and friendly workplace in the field of high technology.

The vision of Technopolis Thessalonikis is become a centre of high-tech companies in Northern Greece, capable of operating as an excellent centre of development of the field of information science and communications in the wider area.

This is a very important and prestigious development project because it demonstrates that things get done when we really want them, providing a sense of assurance that things are changing in Greece.

First of all the whole project was ratified in Parliament and a few months after that one of the biggest companies of the Greek ICT industry moved there.

Success breeds success and so it can be expected that more firms will invest. thessaloniki has been a city of innovation. For example using GPS systems on 600 radiotaxis to track the speed of the vehicles all over the city and transmit the data to whoever wants it through SMS or through the web can really help commuters with traffic.

Let's hope. But the acropolis park on the other hand has stalled for so many years that is has almost become a joke.

By the way, Achilleas about which ICT company are you talking about?

Are you talking about Intracom?

Awesome news about the thessaloniki park, about time, i believe there is a lot of intellectual capital in that city. It's time for thessaloniki to grasp its leadership role in the balkans.

This doesn't have to do completely with the Acropolis Technological Park, but it is relative to technology and research in Greece.

"The new institutional framework for research and technology, to be tabled shortly in parliament, was approved by the Inner Cabinet on Tuesday during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis.

...

The objective is to make Greece competitive in the knowledge economy, improve its performance and keep abreast with international developments on research and technology, Sioufas said, adding that the draft law focuses on innovation issues, invests in knowledge and research, and allows for the optimum utilization of the country’s scientific minds.

The draft law on research is based on three axes: the promotion of cooperation programmes among universities, research centers and major organizations (national and international); research incentives for scientists and innovators; and promotion of new technology entrepreneurship.

Sioufas said that the key to making up for lost time and limiting the system’s weaknesses is cooperation among universities, research centers and the business community."
