View Full Version : Kronik's Whirlwind Journey
kronik May 5th, 2007, 01:28 PM I got a chance to travel to Jodhpur and places in between a few days ago. Like the title says, the journey was really short, and I travelled most of the time, not really acting like a tourist. I do have some decent pictures of the various roads I was on, and some other pictures.
Since my connection here is still on dial up, its going to be a slow and painstaking process, but it has to be done. So please bear with me.
This is National Highway 72 between Haridwar and Dehradun. The 2 lane highway is scheduled to be 4 laned, but that is still a while away. The highway runs through the Rajaji National Park, hence the woods on either side.

sudheeshnairs May 5th, 2007, 01:56 PM Welcome Kronik, nice to see you here..:)
Waiting for your Dehradun pics.
ferrari_fan May 5th, 2007, 02:18 PM nice!! the highways in that part of the country are very scenic!!
thanks for sharing and i hope there's more to come.. :)
kronik May 5th, 2007, 07:52 PM Thanks for the wishes guys. Added to the fact that the highways in Rajasthan were a lot better than the ones in UP, there were also a lot less people and agricultural traffic, which is definitely a driving plus.
I am not quite sure how to go about this, but I think I will add all the UP and Uttaranchal highway pictures first.
So here goes....
The bridge over River Ganges on NH 72 in Haridwar. Being a Hindu holy city, there is a generous sprinkle of cows all over.

This is the Ginger hotel in Haridwar. It seems it is not functioning yet.

IU May 6th, 2007, 02:55 AM Nice pics Kronic. :) I went to Haridwar and Hrishikesh back in 2003 and had a pretty good time. I lived in this hotel called 'Ganga kinare' which was literally next to the river in Hrishikesh and had moutains in the background. I have some pics of the place and would post a link when I find em.
Waiting for your Rajasthan pics  Did you take pics of the Del-Gur Expressway?
arijeetb May 6th, 2007, 09:13 AM Nice pix Kronik - keep them coming :)
kronik May 6th, 2007, 10:10 PM indiansunite, yes, I have stayed in that hotel too - belongs to a high school buddy of mine! Please do post your pictures. I want to see our India section awash with pictures.
Unfortunately, I did not travel on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, but I did travel on the Ajmer-Jaipur expressway, and definitely have some decent pictures of that stretch. Of course, my dialup connection is my handicap, so I have to be slow. :ohno:
IU May 7th, 2007, 05:10 AM Here are some pics. Back then I didnt have a digicam, but a regular canon. The local photo shop burned a cd with all the pics in it :) The pics arent of the best quality..but anyways -

kronik May 14th, 2007, 09:27 AM Thanks for the pictures, indiansunite. I stayed there during a white-water rafting trip. I think the jhulas are closed down these days for renovation, and the water level is really high, so no rafting or anything.
Imageshack has been giving me so much trouble with my dial-up, it just refuses to load up. The speed seems to be stable now, and let me load some more pictures.
This is NH 58 between Ghaziabad and Meerut. This is scheduled to be an expressway, but there is a very, very heavy volume of traffic, because of high population density throughout the length of the road, and a very high rural traffic. One will find bicycles, bullock carts, tractors, pedestrians and three-wheelers more than four wheelers.

kronik May 22nd, 2007, 01:28 PM This is NH58 around Meerut. I think its right after the city. Large tracks of the highway are being converted to 4 lanes, in fact you can see some village houses broken in half because they were right on the highway. When I took this picture, they were in the process of clearing the vegetation on the left.

Oh, and the highway is haunted as well. On many occasions I was visited by a ghost cell phone, which you can see in the picture. Looks like it is a Nokia 1100. A Nokia 1100 must have died in a tragic car accident here.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a national highway - cramped, muddy and jumbo potholed. It runs through some village, so dunghills and cattle on both sides. THis is after Meerut, towards Muzaffarnagar. (and the ghost phone again)

nice pics man..
kronik September 10th, 2007, 06:07 PM alright, so BSNL kept me waiting for a broadband connection for more than three months and so, unfortunately, my "whirlwind journey" has taken been extended a little while longer. :)
If you all will recall, or simply scroll down to see the other pictures, I was in the process of posting the pictures of the Meerut to Dehradun highway. Of course, this is about 3 months ago, and I think the work has progressed a lot more since then.
Now that crappy UP is out of the way, let me post some nice pictures of the Jodhpur to Jaipur highway, the Jaipur Ajmer Expressway and some city pictures of Jaipur and Jodhpur. Um, I think they've stayed the same in the last 3 months.
so anyways, heres to old wine......
it was a beautiful morning that day!
