I've started seeing these around lately, but apparently they are just optional and cost an extra $30. The old plate is still the official one. I like the design but I think the 2010 logo makes it worse. They should remove that, and leave the rest, making this the new official provincial license plate. The old ones are very dated!
mr.x May 9th, 2007, 01:14 AM they should've made the plate with the 2010 blue, green and white livery.
Westcoast604 May 9th, 2007, 01:20 AM you lost me...what is the 2010 blue green and white livery?
mr.x May 9th, 2007, 01:43 AM This is it:

Rusty Gull May 9th, 2007, 07:30 AM I like the new plates, but can't stand the "Best Place on Earth" phrase. You can't beat good ole "Beautiful BC" -- says the same thing without the bragging!
spongeg May 9th, 2007, 08:29 AM they expire in 2012
i am thinking of getting them
zivan56 May 9th, 2007, 08:50 AM Do you have to change your license plate number or do they reprint your current one?
officedweller May 9th, 2007, 11:30 PM Isn't the blue/green/white the Paralympics logo?
I agree that the new plate looks too cluttered and the slogan sucks. The rising sun logo is also weak. The setting sun is what's on the flag. At least it's optional.
The words British Columbia are spaced too far apart.
At least there's a place on it for the expiry date - not just in the middle between the numbers like on my car.

The Vancouver 2010 Games colours are blue, green, and white. Every Olympic Games, there's a distinct colour scheme and design to the banners and everything, and this is ours:

dchengg May 11th, 2007, 04:13 AM Do you have to change your license plate number or do they reprint your current one?
i dont think you have to chagne your licence plate, cuz its registered with your vehicle already,
and i dont htink we need to waste such money,
cuz its just another plate,
it doesnt do anything good for us,
and i have a question
doesnt vancouver OR CANADA have any designers better than this?
or did they just ask a 12year old to do the design on paint?
spyro May 11th, 2007, 09:23 PM they should've made the plate with the 2010 blue, green and white livery.
volia! something i put together.. not too shabby

samsonyuen May 11th, 2007, 10:52 PM "British" and "Columbia" are too far apart. Couldn't they put the month and year in the corner rather than the middle?
gutooo May 13th, 2007, 10:21 AM Wow, thats a good surprise!
Here in Brazil all the plates are the same, no matter what state (province) you are!
I loved the old BC's plate, but this one looks much better IMO!
ssiguy2 May 13th, 2007, 09:46 PM I like those ones.
zachus22 May 13th, 2007, 11:26 PM 'The Best Place on Earth.'
Talk about making a statement.

that's a lot better than the ICBC version in my opinion. but you're missing the 2010 logo! :p
mr.x May 14th, 2007, 07:11 AM As you can see, the Vancouver 2010 brand; also known as the "Games brand":

*Jarrod May 14th, 2007, 07:26 AM That is an extremely ugly plate. Also, the best place on earth ahs to be one of the worst slogans ever.
I like the one that spyro made. It looks very fresh.
RPM May 14th, 2007, 07:36 AM That plate is going to look cluttered in northern BC where there are 4 numbers and 2 letters, example: (1234 AB). And they are wayyyyy harder to read for those of us who do that for a living.
hinto May 15th, 2007, 06:14 AM One of my neighbours got the new plate, and it looks just as crappy in person. The plate number barely stands out against the background; they really should fade the background off a bit.
Besides, I never liked the rising sun logo anyway. Looks way too generic.
hinto May 15th, 2007, 11:46 PM Even though I thought the rising sun logo's too bland, after seeing one of those "your tax dollars at work" signs today, I thought it might make an okay background for a license plate, and I gave it a go:

isaidso May 16th, 2007, 05:28 AM Much better Derek. Looks sharp, distinctive, and uncluttered. Great colour palette.

not to be offensive..
but reminds me of the sunrise brand~
hinto May 17th, 2007, 02:49 AM Thanks isaidso!

No worries... Even while I was making the background, I was thinking to myself "Hmm, it reminds me of some food company's logo", but for the life of me I couldn't remember which company it was. :P
And that actually is my major gripe with the rising sun logo. Like I said before, it's too bland and generic, and "BC" isn't the first thing that comes to my mind when I see it. I much prefer the stylised provincial flag; I understand they might want to get something new after, what, 20 years, but I wish they came up with something better.
It's nice that Ontario has the trillium logo, maybe BC should get something with the dogwood. Maybe they can use BCTV's old flower logo. :P
salvius May 17th, 2007, 02:56 AM So the new plates are gonna be crap...
I wish we didn't add such junk to licence plates. Plates are meant to be sharp, clear, and sleek.

That just can't be beaten.
zivan56 May 17th, 2007, 10:39 AM ^^ These aren't new, they are special edition plates.
Btw, your German plate is missing 2 decals, and is invalid...
License plates in North America follow a standard, and can't be easily changed...
