CULWULLA May 13th, 2007, 12:58 PM thanks, i wonder what its for?
Fabian May 13th, 2007, 01:14 PM Hurstville has one at the moment for The Avenue Office complex, but that will be coming down soon.
Brighton Le Sands also has one for an apartment project in Bay St.
You could lump them together to form a southern Sydney crane count.
MILIUX May 13th, 2007, 01:24 PM 1 in Auburn
1 in Burwood
1 in Parramatta
Randwicked May 13th, 2007, 01:28 PM thanks, i wonder what its for?
Some new student centre on the Darlington side.
Coneslammer May 13th, 2007, 04:08 PM There's one in between Mona Vale Road, Link Rd and Stanley Street in St Ives. Working on the big new 5/6 story apartment complex that's going up there.
CULWULLA May 14th, 2007, 12:41 AM thanks guys, when i go past Rhodes on train there are a sea of cranes out there. many new lowrise projects.
is there more then 1 at Parramatta?
LanceDriver May 14th, 2007, 12:55 AM there's 2 tower cranes at the John st cutting highrise units, ie, one on either side but the one at the city west apartments will be coming down very soon i'd say (and may be as I write). there has been a tower crane at evolve for about 2 weeks or so. there's also a couple of smaller floating cranes at the sydney wharf development (darling island you mentioned).
lennyr May 14th, 2007, 05:13 AM I'll have to do an exact check, but I'm pretty sure theres more that 3 in the gong. Though about 5 have finished recently so maybe I'm still counting them.
Muse May 14th, 2007, 05:21 AM thanks, i wonder what its for?
It's for The USYD Central Building by John Wardle Architects. It will front City Road & is adjacent to The Wentworth Building. Being constructed by The Abi Group & already 2 levels above ground.

CULWULLA May 14th, 2007, 11:57 AM Hey Culwulla, there's a tall white one that I can see from the top of my street in the Castle Hill/ Cherrybrook area. I wonder what that's for.
There's one in Castle Hill but I'm not sure if it's the same one.
not sure, maybe a new highrise?
i love the new 9storey HORIZONS!

Fabian May 14th, 2007, 01:34 PM There's a big'un over City Rd, by the USyd footbridge.
I've noticed a second crane around the Sydney University site as well. There's also a crane at the Sydney Technology Park at Redfern.
On the train today, I noticed a crane in Kogarah as well opposite St George hospital. :)
CULWULLA May 15th, 2007, 12:16 AM thanks fabs
just one thing guys, lets us know what type the crane is, be it tower crane or the hammerhead crane.
cheers
James Saito May 15th, 2007, 12:51 AM I saw 3 cranes in Victoria Park area (1 in Zetland, 2 in Moore Park) this morning from the highway. Also 2 cranes in Mascot. I think they are all towers.
Heaps in Norwest Business Park.
CULWULLA May 15th, 2007, 04:24 AM apparently theres-
3 tower cranes in parramatta & 1 hammer
4 hammerheads in blacktown
3 hammerheads in penrith
2 hammerheads in gorgeous Mt Druitt
CULWULLA May 15th, 2007, 06:04 AM spoted 2 more Hammerhead cranes. one adjacent to Zenith in Kings Cross and another about 100m south of St Johns darlinghurst.
papervagina May 15th, 2007, 06:27 AM What about "Ivy" on George Street? I think there's a tower crane there.
CULWULLA May 15th, 2007, 08:07 AM thanks ive added 10 more.
Fabian May 15th, 2007, 08:13 AM This proves that were not in a lull. Good to see a nice spread of work around the city and suburbs.
And we have forgotten about the two cranes at Olympic Park (one for CBA & the other for Softiel)

CULWULLA May 15th, 2007, 12:13 PM THANKS.
total crane count for sydney metro is approx 60. Thats not counting the many at Northwest park and Rhodes which we will have to get out there and take some shots and counting.
cheers
James Saito May 16th, 2007, 12:35 AM 2 tower cranes in Rosehill along James Ruse Drive, just across the Rosehill station. I don't know what this building is for but it looks bulky.
CULWULLA May 16th, 2007, 01:59 AM thanks, i spoted a hammerhead on way home yesterday on train. looked to be on Pacitc hwy in suburb of Warrawee?
Coneslammer May 16th, 2007, 05:14 PM Got another one for you:
Opposite Lindfield Primary School between the Pac Highway and the train line, just noticed it tonight. Some sort of apartment complex going up but I don't know the details.
papervagina May 17th, 2007, 12:02 PM I noticed another two today - a tower crane on top of 115 Pitt Street and three or four tower sections (ready for a crane to be bolted on to) on the tiny site on York Street between the Travelodge and Margaret Street.
Muse May 17th, 2007, 12:20 PM BTW CULWULLA. Take Broadway Shopping Centre (ie Grace Bros Broadway) off the list. The cranes haven't been on site for a couple of months now.
CULWULLA May 17th, 2007, 02:18 PM I noticed another two today - a tower crane on top of 115 Pitt Street and three or four tower sections (ready for a crane to be bolted on to) on the tiny site on York Street between the Travelodge and Margaret Street.
ah yes, the refurb must be in full swing now for 115 pitt. The Travelodge hotel is getting a 4storey addition to its side and refurbed podium.

lennyr May 21st, 2007, 06:43 AM ^ and a canyon along anzac parade without much gaps, and that includes kingsford and kensington.
I went along Anzac pde yesterday going to swans match, it's changed so much from my days at UNSW. What are those places near Doncaster Hotel? And a near place going up in Kingsford with.
lennyr May 21st, 2007, 06:50 AM Anyone mention the two cranes on Alfords Point Road near the bridge over the Georges river? Don't know what sort of construction it is, but decent size cranes.
CULWULLA May 24th, 2007, 06:02 AM here you go. nice and clear

rob_ June 8th, 2007, 03:52 AM bit off topic, the crane/building next to wentworth at usyd (pic from culwula), what department is getting that?
Brizer June 8th, 2007, 10:31 AM Just to clarify:
Victoria Park is in Zetland in the Green Square area, Mascot isn't.
So: GREEN SQUARE: 3; 1 at Victoria Park ("Prominence"), and 2 in the so-called Mid-Block between O'Dea Av and Lachlan St (1-11 Murray St & CityWest on Lachlan), in Waterloo (not Moore Park but across the road from it).
With any sort of luck there could be 3 or 4 more at Victoria Park within the year.
Fabian June 10th, 2007, 04:28 AM Spotted a hammerhead crane near Warringah Mall in Brookvale last night :)
Avatar June 10th, 2007, 09:41 AM thanks, i spoted a hammerhead on way home yesterday on train. looked to be on Pacitc hwy in suburb of Warrawee?
There are two large cranes up in Warrawee either side of the pacific Highway, have these both been added yet?
There was a couple of cranes up in Cremorne too, near Cremorne Junction, and possibly one or two trying to fix the ferry terminal! ;)
Muse June 10th, 2007, 10:10 AM Wonder what the 2 in Cremorne are. Possibly more apartments with retail @ ground level as is often the case on & around Military Road.
Tony P may know.
Avatar June 10th, 2007, 10:20 AM One of them was a commercial office devel to the north of Military Road/Parraween with appartments top few levels, the other was a purely residential and was corner Spofforth and Cabramatta Rd. Whether the cranes are still there I can't be sure, I haven't actually looked lately, I simply don't notice cranes very often. You can see one of the cranes on Google Maps .. satellite. I will for a wander when it aint raining see if they still up.
There was a large crane at the south end of Kurraba Rd in Neutral Bay, don't know if that one is there anymore either.
CULWULLA June 10th, 2007, 10:30 AM thanks guys ive updated list.
now over 80
Brizer June 11th, 2007, 08:06 AM Update/Correction:
CityWest, Lachlan St, Waterloo: crane gone.
Green Square: Meriton's Crown Square in Waterloo: crane at work on current construction site on South Dowling Street.
Count remains the same, they've just shifted a bit.
Brizer June 12th, 2007, 06:54 AM And there are 2 cranes working on Meriton's "Valentino" site at cnr Epsom & Rothschild, Rosebery, which is in the Green Square development area. It's quite a big building horizontally (though only 6-10 storeys) thus the need for an extra crane, I guess.

zulu69 June 25th, 2007, 04:11 AM I'm going to do my bit to add to this 'great' cause. A crane at Baulkham Hills for the Stockland Mall upgrade.
Avatar June 25th, 2007, 08:03 AM THe cranes in cremorne are gone. There is a crane on Clarke street in Crows Nest and another at the corner of Miller and Ernest Streets Cammeray.
gazmo June 30th, 2007, 08:54 AM Anyone know why there's a crane in Margaret Street? I can see it when I drive over the bridge in the mornings.
papervagina June 30th, 2007, 10:26 AM Anyone know why there's a crane in Margaret Street? I can see it when I drive over the bridge in the mornings.
I think that's probably the one at the Travelodge on York Street that I mentioned back on page 2. It's an interesting one, because the top tower section is actually offset.
Muse June 30th, 2007, 10:40 AM Yesterday I saw a crane in the distance in Darlinghurst somewhere behind The Garvan Institute in the direction of Kings X. I have to go back that way this coming Wednesday, so I'll go check it out. It was tall enough for a 9- to 10-level building.

Brizer September 6th, 2007, 06:08 AM For you crane guys who may be in need of a hit, and with apologies that it isn't a tower crane, there is today a long arm crane working on the 3 storey Stage 1 of Lot 204 of Victoria Park, Zetland. There is the promise of greater things to come, so chin up.

CULWULLA September 24th, 2007, 12:34 AM 2 more cranes @ mac bank site in King st wharf. Also noticed a large hammerhead (Probuild) across from Gordon station . huge building being built.
Fabian September 24th, 2007, 01:04 AM It's most likely a mid-riser as tall buildings are not permitted in that area of the North Shore.
I have noticed that the list on page one needs to be updated as well.

Fabian April 24th, 2008, 08:37 AM We need a big update with the index not updated since July. Hurstville is one of the few places where cranes seem to want to make an appearance - 5 of them as of last count (2 at East Quarter, 1 on Railway Pde, 1 on the Illawarra Catholic Club Development and 1 at Danebank Anglican College).
Fabian May 25th, 2008, 01:06 AM Walking along the western shore of Botany Bay, I counted at least 7 cranes on the site of the Desalination Plant at Kurnell, easily visible. Thats where all the crane action is at the moment.

The 3rd crane closest to you in the 2nd shot is at or near the old Readers' Digest building in Surry Hills.
Yep, it's across the road from the Readers Digest building: deNode (http://www.denode-surryhills.com.au/).
Brizer July 17th, 2009, 12:08 AM Yep, the crane in the picture is the one for DeNode, Waterloo Street, Surry Hills, just north of Devonshire Street.
I can't think of any other cranes in that Elizabeth/Devonshire streets area.
Brizer July 18th, 2009, 06:51 AM And a 2nd crane is going up on the Meriton site at 5 Hutchinson Walk aka VSQ1, Victoria Park, Zetland.
