please let us know if you have seen a crane and where/what type/suburb etc.

Hurstville has one at the moment for The Avenue Office complex, but that will be coming down soon.

Brighton Le Sands also has one for an apartment project in Bay St.

You could lump them together to form a southern Sydney crane count.

Some new student centre on the Darlington side.

There's one in between Mona Vale Road, Link Rd and Stanley Street in St Ives. Working on the big new 5/6 story apartment complex that's going up there.

there's 2 tower cranes at the John st cutting highrise units, ie, one on either side but the one at the city west apartments will be coming down very soon i'd say (and may be as I write). there has been a tower crane at evolve for about 2 weeks or so. there's also a couple of smaller floating cranes at the sydney wharf development (darling island you mentioned).

I'll have to do an exact check, but I'm pretty sure theres more that 3 in the gong. Though about 5 have finished recently so maybe I'm still counting them.

It's for The USYD Central Building by John Wardle Architects. It will front City Road & is adjacent to The Wentworth Building. Being constructed by The Abi Group & already 2 levels above ground.

Hey Culwulla, there's a tall white one that I can see from the top of my street in the Castle Hill/ Cherrybrook area. I wonder what that's for.

There's one in Castle Hill but I'm not sure if it's the same one.

I've noticed a second crane around the Sydney University site as well. There's also a crane at the Sydney Technology Park at Redfern.

On the train today, I noticed a crane in Kogarah as well opposite St George hospital. :)

I saw 3 cranes in Victoria Park area (1 in Zetland, 2 in Moore Park) this morning from the highway. Also 2 cranes in Mascot. I think they are all towers.

Heaps in Norwest Business Park.

Opposite Lindfield Primary School between the Pac Highway and the train line, just noticed it tonight. Some sort of apartment complex going up but I don't know the details.

I noticed another two today - a tower crane on top of 115 Pitt Street and three or four tower sections (ready for a crane to be bolted on to) on the tiny site on York Street between the Travelodge and Margaret Street.

BTW CULWULLA. Take Broadway Shopping Centre (ie Grace Bros Broadway) off the list. The cranes haven't been on site for a couple of months now.

I saw 2 tower cranes in Maroubra Junction and 1 tower crane in Hillsdale today. Maroubra Junction has been getting a quite few new apartments and really forming a mini skyline.

I went along Anzac pde yesterday going to swans match, it's changed so much from my days at UNSW. What are those places near Doncaster Hotel? And a near place going up in Kingsford with.

Anyone mention the two cranes on Alfords Point Road near the bridge over the Georges river? Don't know what sort of construction it is, but decent size cranes.

i went through the Eastern Distributor and I counted 7 cranes in the Green Square area and four cranes in Mascot (Including Sydney Airport)

bit off topic, the crane/building next to wentworth at usyd (pic from culwula), what department is getting that?

Just to clarify:
Victoria Park is in Zetland in the Green Square area, Mascot isn't.
So: GREEN SQUARE: 3; 1 at Victoria Park ("Prominence"), and 2 in the so-called Mid-Block between O'Dea Av and Lachlan St (1-11 Murray St & CityWest on Lachlan), in Waterloo (not Moore Park but across the road from it).
With any sort of luck there could be 3 or 4 more at Victoria Park within the year.

There are two large cranes up in Warrawee either side of the pacific Highway, have these both been added yet?

There was a couple of cranes up in Cremorne too, near Cremorne Junction, and possibly one or two trying to fix the ferry terminal! ;)

Wonder what the 2 in Cremorne are. Possibly more apartments with retail @ ground level as is often the case on & around Military Road.

One of them was a commercial office devel to the north of Military Road/Parraween with appartments top few levels, the other was a purely residential and was corner Spofforth and Cabramatta Rd. Whether the cranes are still there I can't be sure, I haven't actually looked lately, I simply don't notice cranes very often. You can see one of the cranes on Google Maps .. satellite. I will for a wander when it aint raining see if they still up.

There was a large crane at the south end of Kurraba Rd in Neutral Bay, don't know if that one is there anymore either.

Update/Correction:
CityWest, Lachlan St, Waterloo: crane gone.
Green Square: Meriton's Crown Square in Waterloo: crane at work on current construction site on South Dowling Street.
Count remains the same, they've just shifted a bit.

And there are 2 cranes working on Meriton's "Valentino" site at cnr Epsom & Rothschild, Rosebery, which is in the Green Square development area. It's quite a big building horizontally (though only 6-10 storeys) thus the need for an extra crane, I guess.

I'm going to do my bit to add to this 'great' cause. A crane at Baulkham Hills for the Stockland Mall upgrade.

THe cranes in cremorne are gone. There is a crane on Clarke street in Crows Nest and another at the corner of Miller and Ernest Streets Cammeray.

I think that's probably the one at the Travelodge on York Street that I mentioned back on page 2. It's an interesting one, because the top tower section is actually offset.

Yesterday I saw a crane in the distance in Darlinghurst somewhere behind The Garvan Institute in the direction of Kings X. I have to go back that way this coming Wednesday, so I'll go check it out. It was tall enough for a 9- to 10-level building.

There is a new relatively tall yellow hammerhead lodged atop a building in Chinatown opposite the Entertainment Centre. Must've gone up on the weekend. Built Constructions.

New tall crane went up yesterday on a project between Parramatta and Harris Park railway station, they have been digging out the foundations for months now, its a biggie... dont know the name of it.

Actually its 15 Cowper st, replaces the old Bowling centre.

One just went up recently on West Street, Crows Nest right on the north side of the freeway.

watching the AFL last night at the SCG... and towers crane seems to be up at Randwick end.. It's white except for the side that facess the ground which seems to have been covered in some sought of dark grey wrapping...

I suppose it's so the players dont confuse where the goal posts are because it's right next to the sticks.

For you crane guys who may be in need of a hit, and with apologies that it isn't a tower crane, there is today a long arm crane working on the 3 storey Stage 1 of Lot 204 of Victoria Park, Zetland. There is the promise of greater things to come, so chin up.

Ornithologically speaking.

There are two cranes now at Sydney Airport for the construction of the carparks at the international terminal.

And the hammerhead crane that has appeared at Hurstville also has to be added.

2 more cranes @ mac bank site in King st wharf. Also noticed a large hammerhead (Probuild) across from Gordon station . huge building being built.

It's most likely a mid-riser as tall buildings are not permitted in that area of the North Shore.

I have noticed that the list on page one needs to be updated as well.

cranes are now scarce on skyline.. Aspects is gone.also the Hyde is removed for demolition but should be back for construction.
plenty still happening down at king st wharf.

We need a big update with the index not updated since July. Hurstville is one of the few places where cranes seem to want to make an appearance - 5 of them as of last count (2 at East Quarter, 1 on Railway Pde, 1 on the Illawarra Catholic Club Development and 1 at Danebank Anglican College).

Walking along the western shore of Botany Bay, I counted at least 7 cranes on the site of the Desalination Plant at Kurnell, easily visible. Thats where all the crane action is at the moment.

Theres no crane on the Optus Building in North Sydney. There are 2 across from each other just metres away though.

2 big cranes working on Prestige Car Showroom (for Ferrari & Maserati) cnr Elizabeth and Bourke streets, Waterloo.
Cranes on High Street for the UNSW projects have been working away for months.

The 3rd crane closest to you in the 2nd shot is at or near the old Readers' Digest building in Surry Hills.

Yep, it's across the road from the Readers Digest building: deNode (http://www.denode-surryhills.com.au/).

Yep, the crane in the picture is the one for DeNode, Waterloo Street, Surry Hills, just north of Devonshire Street.
I can't think of any other cranes in that Elizabeth/Devonshire streets area.

And a 2nd crane is going up on the Meriton site at 5 Hutchinson Walk aka VSQ1, Victoria Park, Zetland.
