How do I post a picture?

Nadini
May 14th, 2006, 10:24 PM
use www.imageshack.us and save the link.

Take a look at the picture, u copy the link of the first site after the picture

http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/2494/dfdf8jo.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Then when u copy the link, u paste it on the thread. Everytime you want to add another picture, u do the same technique and u press enter between the first and the second site

^^ She is seeking refuge in Damour, she got caught when Israel bombed the bridges and the Intl. Airport. It is very dangerous for her, and the rest of the Lebanese currently in Lebanon, to travel. She said she will give me her password since she trusts me, and that she will explain upon arrival as soon as possible.

I would prefer to make restitution of (constitutional) monarchy for our Phoenician Queen ;)

When it comes to using Arabic on Lebanese forum, I'm not against it as far as there are separate threads for it. Maybe there are issues not dealing with skascrapers and some Lebanese prefer to use Arabic. If it's just internal Lebanese tittle-tattle, I don't need to participate in it (there are sometimes Hebrew threads on Israeli forum; almost 100% of threads on Polish and some other fora are in local languages, but most of these fora are quite big ones, so I don't think the situation is comparable). But yes, sometimes I'm gettin suspicious (maybe they are knocking me there in Hebrew/Arabic :sly:  ).
I hope mixing English and French withing threads is acceptable. I can understand most of French, but I can write only in (my very own dialect of) English.

i appreciate the effort nadini, but i don't like the idea of the new subforums.

the site is already too slow, and it makes it a bit annoying to have to open all the subforums so we can check out 1 or 2 threads in each.
i think it's more comfortable to have as little subforums as possible.

Beiruti
September 5th, 2006, 06:07 PM
^^ I see your point but its nice to have similar threads grouped together rather than having them all mixed up which confuses people and makes the forum look chaotic and unorganized. I especially like the Cedar News forum because what was happening before was that our cafe (which was supposed to be a fun place for random off-topic discussion) became a sad place all about news as a result of recent events in Lebanon.

Don't worry you will get use to it and eventually see why it is much better this way.

The Pierre El Khoury thread can be found in the Architecture sub-forum.

Beiruti
October 25th, 2006, 07:42 PM
A new sub forum has been added (Architecture, Infrastructure, and Urban Issues) because I think it would be a useful addition to this fast-growing forum. Please use the forum for any discussion relating to these topics and hopefully we can benefit greatly from it. That means anything about Lebanese architecture, the current need to rebuild the country's infrastructure, and any other urban-related issues that don't really fit anywhere else.

Enjoy!

Dear SSC Forumers,

As you may or may not have noticed, I am and will be "cleaning house" at the Projects sub-forum for the next few weeks, making threads more organized and presentable. This will require me to delete almost all off-topic (OT) and unnecessary posts within each thread, resulting in threads that are more focused and easy to follow for new visitors as well as the guests of the general public.

I urge all forumers to respect the new policy by refraining from making any OT or personal conversational posts, and try and make your postings of more substance and relevant to the topic at hand.

Please remember, our goal at this sub-forum is to provide a professional atmosphere to discuss, analyze, and update the progress of construction projects in Lebanon.

I hope you all help us continue to achieve this goal.

Thank you,

Beiruti

** A few new rules : please make the Lebanese Cities and villages and the Projects thread a PURE picture thread ONLY.
Whenever someone posts a picture, please do not say great pic, thank you.. wonderful...etc... We already know
it's a great picture, that's why it is in the threads. However, if you have questions,
feel free to ask them. Also when you get a picture from any website or
any picture that is not one of yours, cite the owner of the photo by using ''courtesy of ...''.
SSSankkk you all and keep up the great work!
Remember I love you all but we are just trying to keep this professional, organized and clean for our
foreigners and hey, who knows, maybe our future investors :)

Please state and explain why, if anyone, doesn't feel comfortable with this rule

mahdial_x5
April 13th, 2007, 06:30 AM
:(:(

then how will people know that we APPRECIATE the fact that they posted the pics?!

;)

Nadini
April 13th, 2007, 06:36 AM
they already know that we APPRECIATE every single picture they take/post in these thread. Maybe you can thank them when you ask them questions and/or when commenting about a specific detail of that tower/picture (ie. thank you for the picture Nouggy, the Marina Towers looks fabulous, but I dont think the Four Season Hotel will look great beside it)

This rule is convenient for many reasons Mahdi:
1) Not all of us have dsl/rogers high speed internet or whatever it is your country has. When lets say I post a picture of the Marina Tower, I leave and 10 minutes later I come back on again and see you have made a comment about it, and I opened the thread and all I see is: Thank you great picture. If I had dial up, you know how long it would take me to open the page, excited that someone posted a new picture, and when opened all I see is ''Thank you, Great Picture''??
2) It would be easier and quicker for us moderators to go on ssc every once in a while and do a quick check that everything is going fine in the threads and our sections.

There are a lot more than four missing. If you havent noticed already, over 300 posts have been deleted in total from various project threads - in line with the new policy. As I stated weeks ago, I am in the process of "cleaning house" by deleting all OT and unsubstantial posts in each thread.

A reminder of Rule #8:

PLEASE keep the Projects threads focused and on topic. Please strictly post ONLY about the project the thread is about and ONLY post if you have something substantial to add to the thread. This means you can only post picture updates or regular updates, renderings, news articles about the project, etc. You can also ask questions and provide relevant information. DO NOT simply reply with one-line replies reflecting your personal views and again, there is no need for posting just for the sake of thanking those who post updates.

Another new sub-section has been added to our expanding forum!

This new section, "Development & Economic News" should serve as a place to discuss all issues related to development and the economy, construction projects, etc... the PROJECTS section shall remain ONLY for threads about specific individual projects.

Enjoy!

To All Members and Guests

Please note that during the last two days, the forum is being 'attacked' by a newcomer who constantly is getting banned and registering with a new username. He is a troll.

BE CAREFUL He is using the same usernames our members have with a slight difference in the spelling or punctuation. Moreover, he is posting uncivilised remarks and statements nearly in every thread in the forum.

Hopefully we solve this problem soon.

The admin team can ban this individual's IP address and email account(s)... vBulletin is defiantly sophisticated enough to handle that... I mean the forum I co-admin can do it and their software is not as sophisticated as this one... As this individual has become a giant pain in the ass for the ME section there should be an IP block put on him...

Also I would like to apologise if it seems that I inflamed this individual, I assure you my comments directed at him had honest intentions and not to add fodder for him to use.

Just an FYI, for many reasons we have decided to remove the Cedar News sub-section of the Cedar Cafe sub-forum. Many of the threads that were in that section have either been merged with others, moved to other sub-forums, or deleted.

For those of you that have been wondering, since most of the moved threads have been moved to the Cafe, many of our post-counts have dropped (since posts in the Cafe dont contribute to post count while they did - for some reason - in the News section).

If you have any question/comments please post them here.

what's a "sticky"?

For a thread to be made a sticky it usually needs to be an important thread with a "timeless" general topic so it can always be viewed/found even if it hasnt been active.

The threads in the Lebanese Cities and Villages forum are all sticky threads so that all are always visable (depending on one's personal settings only recent threads are visable normally).

Beiruti
October 20th, 2007, 07:29 PM
^^ I dont see the point, since demolition of the hotel is not even a possibility in reality.

It would be wise to start a poll that is relevant, about a real current issue, not about something hypothetical and especially not about a touchy subject that could only lead to debate.

If you want to discuss demolition, you can do that in the regular thread and ask what people think.

^^ Please, we dont want any forumer to be upset to the point of quitting the forum and taking such drastic measures. There is no need for that. The bottom line is that the moderators reserve the right to delete any post/thread they want. And the forumers should trust that their mods are doing the right thing for the embetterment of the forum.

Although rule #8 is specified for certain sub-forums, if a moderator feels this rule should be applied to certain threads, he/she's decision should be respected.

Please dont take it personal, Nadini was only doing what she felt she needed to and believe me you are not the only one who has had similar posts deleted.

well, for some reason i finally decided to organize last summer's photos. i want to upload a few. 176 of them. :) whats the best way to do it? i tried using photobucket but they wont let me use the "bulk uploader" (i think coz i'm using a :puke:mac) which means i'm gonna have to upload 20 at a time, which means i cant just put them all on, leave, and come back like an hour later. and i cant be arsed sitting in front of the computer uploading photos. what else can i use? tinypics? image shack? my internet speed is 500somthing kbits.(512 i think)

LeB.Fr

^^The best way is to use photobucket. Even if you have to upload 20 photos a time, it's not a problem. My internet speed is 256kbits and it took me less than 10 minutes to upload 13 photos using photobucket. But it also depends on the size of your photos.

Beiruti

but i think discussions and news about the 'village' is a good thing ......:donnu:

Yes, it's a very good idea and we encourage discussions of substance and relevance. Many people are interested in the cities, towns, and villages of Lebanon, and so asking questions and providing interesting information is great.

However, we discourage and will delete simple comments that contribute nothing and only state the obvious (ex. "wow, nice pic!" "I love the scenery!" etc). Remember, these are PHOTO threads.

More importantly, for those of you who care so much about "Post Count" and even celebrate reaching a high number of posts, I just have this to say: quality NOT quantity.

What's the difference between SkyscraperCity and SkyscraperPage??

Beiruti
March 7th, 2008, 05:16 PM
^^ In a nutshell...they are similar in theme but just owned and operated by different people. One of the main differences, although not intended, is that SSP is considered to be more focused on the U.S. and North America, whereas SSC is more international. Also, although SSP was created before SSC, SSC has vastly more forumers and more activity. SkyscraperLife (SSL) is the newest and they actually have a Lebanon sub-forum. However, SSL is not very active and Lebanese forumers tend to use it as a back-up in case SSC goes off-line. I encourage everyone to visit those sites occasionally just to keep the Lebanon threads bumped up.

BCD has been a host for many international stores and still new places are opening. I have seen similar things done for cities. The point is that this forum is not just for Lebanese, but all people around the world who are interested in Lebanon. That is why we have a policy that everything be in English (most understood language globally) and if an article is posted in Arabic, that at least an English summary be provided.

There's a first time for everything. Anyway, I mentioned this several times before in other threads. Many of our readers, especially loyal forumers (like Jayme) shouldnt have to copy&paste anything just to read what is posted. The poster himself should make that effort instead. honestly how much time do you think people have to spend on a forum everyday?
when and if someone reads an article in arabic and shares it with people here, it s b/c they think the info in the article is worth sharing but they don t have an hour to translate it before posting it
if 75% of the people can read arabic, it should be up to the remaining 25% to make the effort and not the other way.
You think other countries' forums like Poland, france, germany also force the forumers to only write in english?

I wonder why you are the only moderator in SSC who introduced such law. Please check all other threads with different languages, specially European & Latin

our mod is american-lebanese,maybe he doesn't know arabic :bash:

lol at " Law" its a rule. I think its better to have english everyone can be a part of the discussions. This rule has never been an issue, it was put in when the Lebanese forum was born way back in 06 everyone agreed with them.

Rabih, a mod who is someone that looks after the fourm he/she is in charge of i.e Beiruti and Nadini. they make sure everything is good and orgainised no one is trolling around and other stuff....

they were they voted to be mods by us when when the Lebanese fourm was created.

How are we supposed to have a democratic system and vote for a moderator without knowing his/her religion? :gaah:

Here is one example of something we do as moderators: I just moved your post along with several others out of the Lebanese Politics thread and into this thread, since the topic has nothing to do with politics but is rather about the forum. We do this frequently, usually without many of you even noticing, in order to keep the forum organized by keeping each thread on-topic.

It is our job to ensure that everything is going according to the rules and we are constantly cleaning up threads by editing/deleting/merging/copying/etc posts. Also, when a forumer breaks the rules in a severe way, i.e. harassment of other forumers or "trolling", we take serious action by issuing infractions and/or banning. There are also many other responsibilities...

Nadini and I were both nominated and received the top 2 number of votes for the position. The results were then sent to the Administrators in order to make us mods. Ultimately it is the Administrators' decision and we cannot just have an "election" and grant someone a mod. The only thing we can do is vote in a poll and show the results to the Admins as a recommendation for who we would like to be a mod.

honestly how much time do you think people have to spend on a forum everyday?
when and if someone reads an article in arabic and shares it with people here, it s b/c they think the info in the article is worth sharing but they don t have an hour to translate it before posting it
if 75% of the people can read arabic, it should be up to the remaining 25% to make the effort and not the other way.
You think other countries' forums like Poland, france, germany also force the forumers to only write in english?

It is all about making our forum the most accessible country forum on SSC. When you take the time to post something dont you want the most possibe number of people reading it? Or just the few that read Arabic?
I would love to visit the Latin forums or the Polish forums, but I dont understand the language and therefore am unable to. In contrast, we have Latin and Polish forumers who visit the Lebanon forum and participate in discussions. If we only (or mostly) used Arabic, we would be limiting our audience.
But more importantly, some of our very own Lebanese forumers are unable to read Arabic, or cannot easily read Arabic, and this makes their experience difficult. We arent asking that you provide a perfect word-for-word translation, but just a simple summary so everyone can be able to follow along.

Thanks Beiruti for the info..
And may I say the term "Moderator" sounds very cool
I wish it was used in politics, so instead of having i.e. Minister of Interior and Prime Minister we'll have Interior Moderator and Prime Moderator :D

LMAO @ prime moderator!!!! Good one Rabih Alt!
As for the moderators we have, I think they are doing a great job keeping this place tidy and under control!
As for the arabic translation, We need it not only for foreigners, but for the fact that 20 million Lebanese live outside Lebanon and most of them don't know a word of written arabic!!! We are NOT like any other forum from any other country because no country Except maybe for Israel have that high of a ratio of descendents that live in other countries! So for all those people who want a forum in arabic and don't want to translate, go start your own! We will visit and write only in arabic so no one else would understand except for us! Heik bi sir fineh 2oul addeh bheb kam chakhess mawjoudin baynetna bala ma bahdil haleh w jensiteh (sarcasm)... :colgate::colgate::colgate:

of Lebanese descent... more than 20 actually, there are between 5 and 9 million in Brazil alone! around 1 million in north america without Mexico which has in the million and more also! So we should be around the 20 millions... Let's start a project! count all the Lebanese in the world! Wonder how much money it would cost to do such a thing.... hum...

By the way Beiruti, If you can move and organize posts then you must have alot more buttons than we do...
Can you just add a "Browse" "Upload" option? so that we don't need to upload images on other websites then paste them here

(disregard if this sounds dumb :))
