View Full Version : #246 l Torre Mayor l MEXICO CITY l 225m l 55fl
X-seed 4000 October 5th, 2002, 10:58 PM Torre Mayor
Mexico City, Mexico
HEIGHT: 225m/738 feet
FLOORS: 55 floors
COMPLETION: 2003
ARCHITECT: Zeidler Roberts Partnership
Torre Mayor combines the finest materials, the most advanced systems, and meticulous design efficiencies to create a 77,000 square meter world class corporate complex dedicated in every detail to promote corporate productivity, employee well-being, and an image of excellence.
The Tower's technology and systems are completely state-of-the-art. Its dual tubular steel framework and lateral load resisting systems have been designed to ensure structural reliability under the severest seismic conditions.
The building architecture provides function as well as strength. Forty-three column-free office floors, with typical sizes ranging from approximately 1,700 square meters to 1,840 square meters, allow Tower occupants to achieve exceptionally efficient space utilization in their office designs.
The soaring stone-clad entry lobby leads to the central core of 20 high-speed elevators. All tenants and visitors must enter through a single security check point. The lobby is surrounded by a two-level quality retail concourse, creating a self-sufficient corporate center.
Abundant parking is provided on-site in a 13-level structure served by two separate sets of entrances and exits and four separate parking elevators. The garage incorporates a high-security executive VIP drop-off point, with a driver lounge and direct elevator access.

Bob di Gills October 6th, 2002, 12:02 AM Looks very nice,
I'll need more before voting.
How tall is it, when will it be built, how many floors.
Eduardo Lopez October 6th, 2002, 12:16 AM 225m and 55 floors is the Tallest in all Latin America. :)

I like it. I like how that glass facade is continuous from ground to top. More pictures would be good though.
Brasil Guy October 6th, 2002, 01:46 AM nice, maybe some more glass in the back of the building would help to a 10
AG October 6th, 2002, 02:16 PM If only the flat side had more taste. The curvy side is very tasteful though. Mmmm...
8.5/10
Polskafreak October 6th, 2002, 10:12 PM 9/10 this building is very nice, the glass looks great. I like both parts of the building. I think that this is the best skyscraper in Latin America.
Sunflower October 6th, 2002, 10:39 PM Nice but the rendering looks better than the actual building from those photos.
8/10 :)
Bob di Gills October 6th, 2002, 11:04 PM Yeah, it a nice design but, it just doesn't really do it for me

X-seed 4000 November 12th, 2002, 10:05 AM EDIT: Sorry I didn't realize that Eduardo had already posted the aerial pictures of Torre Mayor. To make up for the inconvenience heres a very nice and large Torre Mayor picture.

SUNNI November 17th, 2002, 08:21 AM easily a 10..
ryanr November 17th, 2002, 10:17 AM I like this one. It could use a better facade or at least more glass in the back, though. 9/10
Fabian November 17th, 2002, 08:59 PM Well designed. Would have to rate as one of the best ever built in Mexico City 8/10.
De Snor November 22nd, 2002, 11:02 PM Different shapes in 1 building , I like that , a 9 !

Eduardo Lopez December 11th, 2002, 12:19 AM a tie!
X-seed 4000 December 11th, 2002, 02:25 AM 25% gave it a 10! 50% gave it atleast a 9, and over 90% voted no less than an eight! This is one of the best ratings I've seen for a while!
Liz L December 11th, 2002, 03:57 AM JacobRit - THAT thought produces an interesting mental image!!
:rotf: LOL - Talk about REALLY exceeding the baggage limit....

Noonos December 23rd, 2002, 01:26 AM nice, 9/10
SeeMacau January 2nd, 2003, 02:14 AM Very nice design and the glass looks great
10/10
Eustachy January 4th, 2003, 01:23 PM on some pics it looks amazing but in others... hmmmm... anyway i gave it 8 :D
rich_2000 January 4th, 2003, 07:05 PM I have pass recently near the tower, and i like it a lot specially the front part, the part in the back i really don´t like it, but it still being the tallest in latin america
Jasonhouse February 19th, 2003, 06:07 AM A real nice tower for Mexico City. There is something about its look that seems to fit with Mexico City, but I don't know what it is. Naturally, this aestetic is gaining popularity among commercial architects, so the look isn't exactly new at this point. Torre Mayor isn't exactly true to the aestetic that KPF mastered over a decade ago. But overall, it's a very visually attractive building.
One thing that puzzles me though, is the design's seemingly minimal concern for solar issues, such as daytime heating, glare and excessive direct sunlight in the offices. At Mexico City's latitude, the sun is very intense, and it is even more so at Mexico City's elevation. I would have certainly including more aggressive measures to combat the sun. Things like sunshades, overhangs, screens, reflective glazing and light colors would have been considered. Also, the facade is a bit banal, with such a repetitive pattern, with almost no variation throughout. I would have added additional masses, or at least a varied pattern in the windows and cladding.
6.5/10
DamienK February 19th, 2003, 09:20 AM Kinda looks like Kingdom Center with the top cut off, in the last two pics. 8/10
Ashram February 19th, 2003, 04:47 PM 8/10 Good design, but it seems to have the Taipei 101 effect of being the only tall building in the area.
Eduardo Lopez February 19th, 2003, 05:32 PM TORRE MAYOR'S GALLERY (http://skyscraperpage.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=3056&ppuser=34&thumb=1) hope you like it :)
X-seed 4000 February 26th, 2003, 05:01 AM Like some buildings, some towers look better at night. And from what I've heard... Torre Mayor will have a lot of neon lights, and a light at top...
... I just can't find any pictures :(
Oaronuviss February 26th, 2003, 05:20 AM when built... 8.5
Eduardo Lopez February 28th, 2003, 09:22 AM Is built already Oar ;)
greetings! :)
BMXican February 28th, 2003, 01:37 PM neat - 8/10
renell March 2nd, 2003, 03:14 PM its quite tall, and it has two different facades, the glass side looks great, but the other side isn't as good, in fact, not very good looking imo
7.5
The Messiah March 7th, 2003, 08:58 PM Real nice! :tongue2: Like the both sides and the top came out nice too. 8.5/10
Bruno BHZ March 13th, 2003, 08:32 AM I don't like the back of it, it "kills" the tower. The front is nice.
However, the streetshots are amazing, it's really worth looking at Eduardo Lopez gallery. The sidewalks are really clean, beautiful and the whole entrance is very monumental and "pedestrian-friendly".:)
Gustavo March 30th, 2003, 03:47 PM 9/10. Don't like the backof te tower.
This is my favorite angle.

X-seed 4000 April 10th, 2003, 02:46 AM Yay! I found a pic that shows Torre Mayor's neon lights! Too bad that not all of them were turned on. :(

Evergrey April 10th, 2003, 02:50 AM 3 I'm not a fan of those glass ellipses... and the two parts of this building seem so mismatched
BGT April 19th, 2003, 12:24 AM Under 3
X-seed 4000 April 19th, 2003, 06:38 AM "Under 3"
Can you tell us why?
BGT April 22nd, 2003, 01:28 AM What's up with the shape and the colors? :puke:
JoeBox April 24th, 2003, 04:01 AM 10. Simple the best and tallest in LA.
Cheers!

huaiwei May 28th, 2003, 12:53 PM Both form and facade looks over used. So it gets 7/10 from me.

New Jack City October 6th, 2003, 05:18 PM 8.5/10...It has great unique shapes, but the top looks unfinished, and the back portion isn't all that great. It does have a great facade and color as well as beautiful lighting at night.
airsickpenthousedweller October 23rd, 2003, 09:12 PM The concept is too easy/lazy.
3/10
Primo October 25th, 2003, 01:05 AM Is not a great design but is the tallest building in Latin America.
I give it a 7/10 and at night an 8
Fabio November 8th, 2003, 04:15 PM 9/10
great tower, with a better back it'd gave a 10
sjambler November 25th, 2003, 05:29 PM 6.5/10 The back should have been similar to the front.

yomiuri_giants July 1st, 2004, 06:55 AM I like it. But not that much. Ok to be honest, I'm more on the side that I don't like it. The top at the front and back dont go together well for me. The whole concept of having the facade of frontside and backside different is quite original, but I admit that I dont like the combination this time. However, I must say that I like the top of the side with the glass facade when lit with the colors of the Mexican flag. Very creative. Sorry, but I still have to rate it at 6.5/10

Ral909 July 30th, 2004, 09:54 PM Torre Mayor is the tallest building in Latin America measuring 225.7 meters from the back and 230.6 meters from the front.
It is 62 levels tall ( 55 floors and an heliport over ground ) and measured from sea level, it is the scond tallest building over 20 floors in the world along with Torre Altus, Latin America´s tallest residential building at 196 meters and 42 floors.

Deep Grey December 25th, 2004, 07:23 PM This looks like a nice building. I am giving it 8/10. It's not my favourite kind of design, but I like that view from farther away where you can see the "half-circle" shape at the top. Pretty impressive building.
Chibcha2k December 27th, 2004, 04:40 AM i like it a lot...a 10 /10 but the back would've been better if it was like the black part near the heliport

(1) Conventional buildings use X-shapes to damp seismic events. Torre Mayor's diamond structure is more efficient, allowing it to use less steel to achieve nearly four times the typical stress tolerance. (2) Floor diaphragms knit the building together by connecting the structure's outer frame to its steel core, and help all the building's elements move together. (3) Viscous dampers, similar to gigantic shock absorbers, are strategically placed in the building's core and in the diagonal braces along the perimeter.
As featured on popsci magazine...
Torre Mayor
Latin America's tallest tower is an office building that sits smack in the middle of one of the world's most active seismic zones. But when a temblor strikes, you may see people in Mexico City running into, not out of, this 57-story giant. The structure, which was completed in August, is packed with the latest anti-quake technology, including concrete-encased steel columns, moment frames and supplemental damping systems, many of which were adapted from declassified military technologies for cushioning aircraft impacts. When a quake hits, the systems work together to cushion the jolts, allowing occupants to ride out the tectonic upheaval in style. The system got an early test in January when a 7.6-magnitude quake hit Mexico City. Though only partially complete, the building sustained no damage whatsoever.

sharpie20 December 19th, 2005, 05:44 AM 7.5/10 the glass facade looks nice but the other half looks out of place and bland
Ral909 January 6th, 2006, 09:55 PM Excellent!!!! And standing above a muddy base is not easy for a 750´skyscraper. It is literally floating! ( as well as the Torre Latinoamericana and most of Mexico City´s downtown area )

Scruffy88 January 8th, 2006, 07:30 PM 8/10. I love the curved section and the top. the neon highlights and the ability to project things onto the indent on the top of the glass curve. The contrast between the glassy section and the other is a little weird. They don't seem to match too well.
