Welcome to Marina Bay, Singapore, for the first ever Singapore Formula One Grand Prix!!!!
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track00.jpg
People are starting to gather on the stands and hotel balconies for the hottest event of the year! But that's speaking about the buzz, not the temperature! It is 19:00 in Singapore, the day's about to end and the setting sun is casting the shadow of the majestic, newly opened Singapore Flyer on the cars lining up on the grid, hidden besides the trees in the background. Only sign of the soon-to-come roaring sound of the engines is the regular voice of the official commentator in the loudpspeakers around the bay...

This part will probably host the grand stand and F1 village. Spectators will certainly enjoy sitting along the shore while waiting for the on-track action time. It doesn't quite have the city feeling, instead there's really a nice, leasury feeling here ^ ^
As of now, the track is not built yet so use the photographs with your imagination and the map below to picture the future :-)

This is the area for the starting grid, pits and paddock. All the trees will have to be cleared around here. On the bright side, all those trees are obviously planted on reclaimed land, so none of them is really remarkable. Still, it's a bid sad to see this bit of forest going...
Red lights on!!! ^ ^
5... 4... 3... 2... 1...
AND IT'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070520_singapore_f1_track26.jpg
Singapore Flyer is towering over the starting grid and the pits. That's really gonna be neat location from where to watch the race, for ultra-rich VIPs!!! It will have a prime view on the starting grid, first corner, Raffles Boulevard and Republic Boulevard end corners, the most likely overtaking areas!!!
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070520_singapore_f1_track27.jpg
The first turn will bring the pack right on the bay, with a superb view of Marina City Park and Marina Bay Sands. No fishermen, most likely, however ^ ^
Since this part of the track has to be built, we can have a chicane or another sharp turn allowing for overtaking here, if the track is intelligently designed (fingers crossed!!)
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070520_singapore_f1_track28_singapore_flyer.jpg
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070520_singapore_f1_track31_singapore_flyer.jpg
The first turn will border Singapore Flyer. The podium is designed as a perfect vantage point from which to watch the cars pass through, with its several stand-like setbacks. It lets you wonder about how much the government was really planning to host F1, heh? ^ ^
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070520_singapore_f1_track29.jpg
A short strait follows the first turn, before a succession of tight left-right corners leading to the Esplanade Theatre. This will be the slowest part of the track. Viewers will be distracted by the unequaled city skyline lighting up with the sunset. Quite unfortunate that the sun will be backlighting the buildings, though...
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070520_singapore_f1_track32.jpg
While passing under Sheares Bridge, we're (briefly) on the road track, this time on Raffles Avenue. Just enough time to get a quick peek of the Theatre at the end of the road, and zooooom!!! We turn back towards the bay!
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070520_singapore_f1_track33.jpg
Here, according to the official plan released, I'm not very clear if the track is going left just before or actually UNDER the floating platform stand. There's this "sort of" lane existing under the stand, but it's real narrow and inappropriate for F1 racers. Another, maybe more likely possibility is that the cars will turn just before the stand.
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track02.jpg
We are now on the bay where 30,000 spectators watch in amazement the fast and furious crowd emerging from the sharp right turn, meters away from them! The noise is deafening, but on this narrow part of the track, the race is packed with action!
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track01.jpg
After a short acceleration the drivers negotiate another narrow turn on the right, out from the view of the Bay stand.
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track03.jpg
The cars accelerate out of this short strait...
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track06.jpg
From here this is the actual roads going to be used for the race, so you just need to imagine real Formula One cars instead of the daily traffic! :-)
A fast bend to the left on the road track is immediately followed by a smooth turn on the left, dashing down the road and along the Esplanade Theatre. The guests of Swissotel Stamford, towering above the area, see the cars appear for the first time!
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track08.jpg
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track07.jpg
Out of the bend, and the braking point is already in sight near the traffic lights.
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track09.jpg
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track10.jpg
This is the turn, 90° to the left. In fact, the track is coming back right in front here, head on! I believe it will be kept narrow in each direction, so there will be free space from both direction in case someone misses the corner. It will be necessary here as a F1 may well reach 230 or 240km/h at this point! The road separator with traffic lights shown on the second pic will most likely be removed for the race.
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track14.jpg
The cars now exit the corner at more than 100km/h and race towards the Esplanade Bridge! There's a steady slope here but not to worry, the road condition is excellent!
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track12.jpg
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track15.jpg
The whole world can marvel at Singapore's famed skyline on the onboard camera images, but for the drivers no time to dream... It's the bridge already, and just at the end, that's Fullerton hairpin!
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track16.jpg
Race marshalls stand on the sides, observing the cars passing in front of them. The road is large enough to be safe, and in case something went wrong, a crane stationed on the other 4 lanes of the bridge is ready to remove any wreck within seconds.
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track17.jpg
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track18.jpg
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track19.jpg
First overtaking opportunity here as everyone slam the brakes to negotiate the tight right-hand-side hairpin. It's a very difficult braking as the road and the turn itself have a slight outwards bank. Overtaking will probably be difficult here, but not impossible! Nevermind overoptimistic drivers, they can shoot over on Shenton Way, spin the wheels and rejoin with a few positions lost!
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track20.jpg
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track21.jpg
There might be a F1 traffic jam on first lap at the entrance of Fullerton Road, the narrowest section of the track! With only 2 lanes here, it's just as tight as in Monaco... And look what's in sight!
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track22.jpg
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track24.jpg
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track25.jpg
Anderson Bridge ancient iron echoes with the raging sound of the V8s, as the drivers pass through what will be one of the most spectacular spot of the whole track, and maybe of the whole championship!!! A quick left-side curve won't even slow down the drivers when they enter the bridge at over 150km/h already!!! I wouldn't even dare to drive a car at half that speed here!!!!!! It looks super-dangerous, so let's hope everything will be fine!
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track27.jpg
It's an amazing sight to watch the cars shooting out from the bridge here!

http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track28.jpg

http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track31.jpg
...followed by a super-quick quick curve on the left...
Cars reach 180km/h as the track gets larger again... And the excitement doesn't stop here...

http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track36.jpg
...A super fast, wide angle turn on the right... 200km/h as the drivers slingshot out of this amazingly fast complex of curves, the roadtrack equivalent of Silverstone's legendary Becketts-Chapel complex! Drivers are gonna love this one!
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track35.jpg
http://ssc.singapenguin.net/07/070527_singapore_f1_track37.jpg
On St. Andrews strait now, speeding past Singapore City Hall on the left. The Padang, covered with stands, is on the right, and Marina Centre is already in sight...
