Rotterdam - Wilhelminapier (Under Construction till 2012)
Its an old dock form a harbour. The Wilhelminapier is named after the old Queen Wilhelmina.
There are a few old buildings left. Like the old Holland Amerika Line building. Now its called Hotel New York its standing on the head of the dock.
The Wilhelminapier is a part of the City center the ErasmusBridge/Metro/Tram/Watertaxi's connects it together.

Its a very high quality zone with appartments, offices, hotels, cinema's/theatres, shops, many (world)restaurants etc etc.
It takes years and years to study to present this unique masterpiece in the center of Rotterdam at the Maas(Meuse).

perhaps not the tallest cluster in the world, but certainly one of the highest quality! isn't it true that within the next 8-9 years the pier would have 2 buildings by foster (world port centre, baltimore), 1 by koolhaas (de rotterdam), one by mecanoo archititects (montevideo) and one by siza (new orleans)? well there you go, do the math ;)

i'm secretly hoping that a 200+ centrepiece building by kenzo tange will be anounced someday. his style would suit rotterdam so well in my opinion.

No, I was at the opening and they are trying to get the appartments done before the end of 2009 as well. It will be early 2010 when the first residents can move in after the interior is done.

i think de rotterdam is the master piece of this cluster, though is not the biggest. it has such strainght, such power, such personality, can t wait for begining of the construction.

Actually there will be three buildings by Foster, as the already realised Marine Safety Rotterdam building is also desgined by Sir Norman!!

I'm not sure, but because MSR, Baltimore and WPC are all three next to each other, Rotterdam might be the only city in the world with three Foster's in a row!

actually i'm dutch, but i'm writing my bachelor's dissertation here, and i was an exchange student in bangkok before. so basically i've been living there for a year. i will return to the motherland this august.

Why is this thread in the highrise forum anyway? It's about an area and it should be in the City/Metro Compilations section. While its been moved the threadtitle can be renamed into the 'Kop van Zuid' So it will cover an larger area. Just my :2cents:

The Baltimore will be around 170m. Don't know about the Chicago, but that won't be a highrise.

No, Baltimore got a new architect. Chicago is still the design by Erick van Egeraat that you can see in the picture - they decided to stick with their office 100% sure.

Kind of funny that 'Chicago' is a lowrise. However, it looks very sleek and I'd like to see it when completed.

the names are derived from the warehouses that used to be on each particular location, that's why they might not seem very logical ;)

yes every building is named after a famous harborcity in the world our after a building who had stood there before.

Only the 158 meter (new Orleans is U/C) The tread says that all the towers are curently U/C.

The New Oreleans is ready in 2009, and the Havana in 2012 and Baltimore also in 2012, and the Rotterdam in 2010 or 2011.

San Francisco, Boston and Philadelpia and havana are four times the same building, as well as the rotterdam. Nice density, but it has commieblock appearance :(

No they arent ;) Havanna is different, and also the Philadelphia, wich shares the lower floors with Havanna ;)

I still can't like New Orleans.

It's a building that would fit in Benidorm but not in Rotterdam. It's just to normal.

Thats rendering is made from the Maastoren (165, and U/C). But this is a "old" render because you cant see Baltimore (Wich should be 170m).

*Bump* We got some new Renderers of the Wilhelminapier, including the "Maastoren" (165 Meters, far left on the firt picture.). (The Rotterdam had been increased to 149 meters instead of the 142.)

Not so fast. None of these towers is cancelled, however, they could face delays. :(

And who knows how long it will take in this time of crisis. That The Rotterdam got the green light in these times is highly remarkable for a porject of its size (Investment > € 500 Million).

Regarding the further developments on the pier: I would guess Boston and San Francisco (2 x 70 meters) are the first to start after The Rotterdam has started construction. The construction of The Rotterdam will start at the latest in December 2009, but it could be a little bit earlier.

And of course New Orleans is being built as we speake (158,36 meters tall).

Boston and San Francisco (2 x 70 meters) will be next in line, but my guess is that they will start as soon as New Orleans is completed. But I have even heard of start dates mid 2009.
