Nathanaelll May 24th, 2007, 01:01 PM Rotterdam - Wilhelminapier (Under Construction till 2012)
Its an old dock form a harbour. The Wilhelminapier is named after the old Queen Wilhelmina.
There are a few old buildings left. Like the old Holland Amerika Line building. Now its called Hotel New York its standing on the head of the dock.
The Wilhelminapier is a part of the City center the ErasmusBridge/Metro/Tram/Watertaxi's connects it together.
http://www.dewilhelminapier.nl/beelden/wonen/new-orleans/01.jpg
Its a very high quality zone with appartments, offices, hotels, cinema's/theatres, shops, many (world)restaurants etc etc.
It takes years and years to study to present this unique masterpiece in the center of Rotterdam at the Maas(Meuse).

Racingfreak May 24th, 2007, 05:38 PM So lang for new orleans, I exspected 2009 :(
SkyBridge May 25th, 2007, 12:10 AM ^ End of 2009 is correct!
And De Rotterdam is 139m
Sentient Seas May 25th, 2007, 03:29 AM Looking great.
Sir P von May 25th, 2007, 06:42 AM perhaps not the tallest cluster in the world, but certainly one of the highest quality! isn't it true that within the next 8-9 years the pier would have 2 buildings by foster (world port centre, baltimore), 1 by koolhaas (de rotterdam), one by mecanoo archititects (montevideo) and one by siza (new orleans)? well there you go, do the math ;)
i'm secretly hoping that a 200+ centrepiece building by kenzo tange will be anounced someday. his style would suit rotterdam so well in my opinion.
Nathanaelll May 25th, 2007, 04:07 PM ^ End of 2009 is correct!
And De Rotterdam is 139m
yes the theatre but the appartment begin 2010
they just started with The New Orleans form architect Alvaro Siza

SkyBridge May 25th, 2007, 05:51 PM @ Nathanaell
No, I was at the opening and they are trying to get the appartments done before the end of 2009 as well. It will be early 2010 when the first residents can move in after the interior is done.
pescarush May 26th, 2007, 01:06 PM i think de rotterdam is the master piece of this cluster, though is not the biggest. it has such strainght, such power, such personality, can t wait for begining of the construction.

Actually there will be three buildings by Foster, as the already realised Marine Safety Rotterdam building is also desgined by Sir Norman!!
I'm not sure, but because MSR, Baltimore and WPC are all three next to each other, Rotterdam might be the only city in the world with three Foster's in a row!

You are really well-informed, especially for somebody from Bangkok!
The KPN-building on the Wilhelminapier is from another well-known architect; Renzo Piano.

what do you mean, especially for somebody from bangkok? you got something against...just kidding
actually i'm dutch, but i'm writing my bachelor's dissertation here, and i was an exchange student in bangkok before. so basically i've been living there for a year. i will return to the motherland this august.

Mr Sky July 1st, 2007, 11:49 PM ^^yes, it's just an old pic(the first);)
Sbz2ifc July 2nd, 2007, 12:27 AM ^^ Sorry... not my fault... I just found it on the official site :D
CborG July 2nd, 2007, 09:40 AM Why is this thread in the highrise forum anyway? It's about an area and it should be in the City/Metro Compilations section. While its been moved the threadtitle can be renamed into the 'Kop van Zuid' So it will cover an larger area. Just my :2cents:
SkyBridge July 2nd, 2007, 11:45 AM ^ There are several threads about areas here so I don't think it's a problem, although the individual projects DO have their own threads...
Racingfreak July 2nd, 2007, 01:37 PM I think is treath is useless, I think it can better be placed to another forum.
Nathanaelll July 2nd, 2007, 02:26 PM http://img354.imageshack.us/img354/5352/woogb9.jpg
this is not useless.
This is such an unique project in Europe, maybe the best in the World.
Its deserves his own thread.
i_am_hydrogen July 3rd, 2007, 12:10 AM Anyone have heights for the Baltimore and the Chicago?
ottooo July 3rd, 2007, 12:16 AM The Baltimore will be around 170m. Don't know about the Chicago, but that won't be a highrise.
isola-man July 3rd, 2007, 01:52 AM i love Rotterdam,amazing!
julesstoop July 3rd, 2007, 03:16 AM i think de rotterdam is the master piece of this cluster, though is not the biggest. it has such strainght, such power, such personality, can t wait for begining of the construction.
Thank you! Finally someone who shares my opinion.
Skyman July 3rd, 2007, 06:20 AM Not very nice but anyway it's something new
Racingfreak July 3rd, 2007, 12:28 PM Anyone have heights for the Baltimore and the Chicago?
The Chigaco doesn't exist, it's only:
- Boston
- Philadelphia
- San Francisco
- New orleans
- Baltimore
- Havana
- De Rotterdam
cjav July 3rd, 2007, 01:02 PM chicago does exist no? but tis only a hotel and much smaller?
[Kees] July 3rd, 2007, 01:05 PM Wrong Racingfreak! Chicago is a project at the middle of the pier, between Montevideo and World Port Center/Baltimore.
http://www.dewilhelminapier.nl/beelden/cultuur/chicago/01.jpg
Racingfreak July 3rd, 2007, 01:17 PM Wrong Racingfreak! Chicago is a project at the middle of the pier, between Montevideo and World Port Center/Baltimore.
http://www.dewilhelminapier.nl/beelden/cultuur/chicago/01.jpg
Ok, I have never heard about Chicago
Eric Offereins July 3rd, 2007, 01:29 PM ^^ You missed the most exciting one ;)
SkyBridge July 3rd, 2007, 01:33 PM Agreed - even though lowrise, this is a BEAUTIFUL building that will really add more life to the pier.
Nathanaelll July 3rd, 2007, 08:33 PM yes if this is gonna be Chicago then I will be very happy!
But I dont think this old picture gonna be it...
Just like eeh Baltimore is changed in a totally different building.
Its gonna be build right behind HotelNewYork.
SkyBridge July 4th, 2007, 03:38 AM No, Baltimore got a new architect. Chicago is still the design by Erick van Egeraat that you can see in the picture - they decided to stick with their office 100% sure.
spyguy July 4th, 2007, 04:05 AM Kind of funny that 'Chicago' is a lowrise. However, it looks very sleek and I'd like to see it when completed.
Mr Sky July 4th, 2007, 11:32 AM ^^i see your point:)
well it's looks make up for it's lack of height, that's for sure.
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/4920/02sf1.jpg
another Chicago render
ottooo July 4th, 2007, 12:08 PM Kind of funny that 'Chicago' is a lowrise.
And the Baltimore will be taller then any building in the city of Baltimore. :D
JWvW July 4th, 2007, 07:39 PM the names are derived from the warehouses that used to be on each particular location, that's why they might not seem very logical ;)
Nathanaelll July 5th, 2007, 04:33 PM yes every building is named after a famous harborcity in the world our after a building who had stood there before.
Racingfreak July 5th, 2007, 06:29 PM @Nathanaell,
Only the 158 meter (new Orleans is U/C) The tread says that all the towers are curently U/C.
Can you change it?
SkyBridge July 5th, 2007, 07:01 PM And change 139m to 142m while you're at it ;)
cichus1 July 5th, 2007, 08:01 PM sorry to post it once again but this is very beautiful picture
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b280/Chum1980/mz20188.jpg
JWvW July 5th, 2007, 08:26 PM imagine the new orleans, chicago and baltimore (and probably the smaller triplets; san francisco, boston, etc.) will be on this photo to the left of the current towers.......:D
giovani kun July 5th, 2007, 09:07 PM indeed a fantastic picture we love it :D
Racingfreak July 6th, 2007, 02:09 PM Now is the tread good :)
Skyscrapercitizen July 6th, 2007, 11:31 PM enne de pier is UC zo moet je dat zien

Racingfreak August 16th, 2007, 12:28 PM A very nice render, much more detail then the older ones.
frank hannover August 16th, 2007, 01:24 PM impressive project , will they all be buildt at the same time ??
Racingfreak August 16th, 2007, 01:31 PM impressive project , will they all be buildt at the same time ??
No.
The New Oreleans is ready in 2009, and the Havana in 2012 and Baltimore also in 2012, and the Rotterdam in 2010 or 2011.
im_from_zw038 August 16th, 2007, 01:48 PM San Francisco, Boston and Philadelpia and havana are four times the same building, as well as the rotterdam. Nice density, but it has commieblock appearance :(
Illegal_Alien August 16th, 2007, 02:23 PM No they arent ;) Havanna is different, and also the Philadelphia, wich shares the lower floors with Havanna ;)
Eric Offereins August 16th, 2007, 08:15 PM Commieblocks.. :ohno: The design and the materials used are way too sophisticated for that.
Skycrap August 16th, 2007, 11:45 PM I still can't like New Orleans.
It's a building that would fit in Benidorm but not in Rotterdam. It's just to normal.
colemonkee August 17th, 2007, 12:07 AM I really like the Baltimore tower.
Illegal_Alien August 17th, 2007, 12:29 AM ^^ Its designed by Foster
Dray August 17th, 2007, 02:27 AM I still can't like New Orleans.

Dray September 30th, 2007, 02:13 AM ^^ New Orleans is u/c, but Havana, Baltimore and De Rotterdam aren't, as goes for the 'lowrise' between N.O. and Havana.
Racingfreak September 30th, 2007, 11:58 AM Those towers looks really great. All great additions to the Rotterdam skyline. Zijn ze trouwens allemaal u/c?
Before you aks questions, you can better watch to the TREAD-TITLE.
Illegal_Alien September 30th, 2007, 12:07 PM Thats rendering is made from the Maastoren (165, and U/C). But this is a "old" render because you cant see Baltimore (Wich should be 170m).
Boven Alles September 30th, 2007, 02:55 PM ^^
Wow, great collection of Dutch people with extremely bad English... But hey, maybe they are just kids... :)
www.Rotterdam.nl September 30th, 2007, 03:26 PM Is this forum about languages or about highrises? Anyway, the Wilhelminapier will be great when it's finished in a couple of years  . And yeah, there should be one more tower at the impression above. It lacks one of the highest, Baltimore :) .
Dray September 30th, 2007, 03:28 PM ^^
But hey, maybe they are just kids... :)

Arrrgh November 5th, 2008, 06:33 PM ^^ Shame it doesn't get built because of the credit crunch.
Well, New Orleans is under construction but the rest is very uncertain.
xlchris November 6th, 2008, 08:13 AM ^To bad most towers won't be build. But I thought there was still a sign of live in De Rotterdam?
Eric Offereins November 6th, 2008, 09:21 AM Not so fast. None of these towers is cancelled, however, they could face delays. :(
citysight December 2nd, 2008, 12:48 AM :ohno:Iff the rotterdam will be cancelled the pier wil look a lot differend than on all the renders on the forum

julesstoop December 19th, 2008, 11:17 PM 'DE ROTTERDAM' WILL BE BUILT: START DECEMBER 2009
JC_Zwolle December 22nd, 2008, 02:14 PM ^^And will be finished in 2013. I guess that would mean that it's the last building to finish on the pier.
Elio di Angelis December 22nd, 2008, 06:07 PM ^^
the Havana? is even not build yet
EPA001 December 22nd, 2008, 06:46 PM ^^ Also Baltimore, Chicago, Boston, Philadephia and San Francisco still need to be built. So it will not be the last building to complete the Wilhelminapier. And who knows how long it will take in this time of crisis. That The Rotterdam got the green light in these times is highly remarkable for a porject of its size (Investment > € 500 Million).
Regarding the further developments on the pier: I would guess Boston and San Francisco (2 x 70 meters) are the first to start after The Rotterdam has started construction. The construction of The Rotterdam will start at the latest in December 2009, but it could be a little bit earlier.
And of course New Orleans is being built as we speake (158,36 meters tall).
Eric Offereins December 23rd, 2008, 01:27 PM Boston and San Francisco (2 x 70 meters) will be next in line, but my guess is that they will start as soon as New Orleans is completed. But I have even heard of start dates mid 2009.
