Beboy prepares to complete another 3 major achievements

City Mayor Eric C. Codilla is preparing to complete three major achievements in his last term, as a legacy of good governance and performance of his administration.

In an interview Saturday, the mayor said that he wants to realize his plan for the construction of a 100 bed city hospital to serve the Ormocanons who can barely afford private hospitals, a preferential rate for electric users and the creation of an international port to upgrade the economic services of the city.

Mayor Codilla explained that he had to establish a 100 beds hospital because that is the requirement of the Philippine National Health Care Corporation or PhilHealth to get their full support. He added that a feasibility study is presently being conducted by a Technical Working Group which he created, to point out the necessary needs of the proposed hospital. He said that the TWG is thoroughly focusing their studies in the operating cost of the hospital, as he wants this establishment to operate smoothly.

Mayor Codilla said that the construction of the building for the planned hospital is not a problem, because the city has the funds. What is more important to consider and evaluate is the operational cost.

Mayor Codilla cited the Ormoc District Hospital which is operated by the province of Leyte with a yearly budget of P40 million. Of the P40 million budget, P34 million goes to the salaries and wages of the hospital employees, leaving only P6 million for its operating cost. Mayor Codilla said that he plans a P60 million budget for the operation of the planned hospital.

Mayor Codilla however stressed that he still has to determine the source of fund for the project budget, as he does not intend to use the existing city income, so as not to disrupt or delay the other basic services of the city.

One focus, the mayor said, is to use the royalty which the city will get from the Leyte Industrial Development Estate (LIDE) Management Corporation (LMC). Mayor Codilla believes that he could get royalties of the said establishment between P20-30 million a year. Thus he said, that with the more or less P20 million a year from LMC, his administration is optimistic that it wouldn’t have a hard time where to look for the remaining 40M to complete the operations.

Mayor Codilla said that finding for this amount is not hard for the city, citing that he was able to triple the city’s income during the last three years, without even increasing the local tax rates.

When Codilla assumed office in 2004 the local tax collection was only P80 million per year, but he was able to increase this to P200 million in the last three years. If he would add the taxes coming from the Energy Development Corporation, this will amount to P384 million.

Now the Alliance of Geothermal Energy Producing LGUs (AGEPL) has found another taxable entity within their perimeter and he believes this would be approved, basing precedence from other localities which have the same situations as Ormoc. On the matter of the preferential rate for our electric consumers, he is optimistic that what this particular move will be granted a positive result from the Department of Energy (DOE), considering that Ormoc City is the biggest source of our geothermal energy.

If the city is granted the preferential rate, we can expect more investments and businesses to flow into the city. Another big factor for businessmen and investors to consider is the very low water bill rate, presently pegged at P3.50/cu.m only.

On his plan for an international Mayor Beboy explained that this does not mean that all the cargoes brought here are all intended for Ormoc City only, clarifying that other international ports all over the world are only transshipment port for cargoes intended for other places, citing that like the international port in Cebu City, only 60% of the cargoes are unloaded, the remaining, for transshipment to other parts of the country.

Mayor Codilla said that the abandoned port in Brgy. Ipil is most perfectly suited for his plan for the international port. It can accommodate large ships, as had been the case during the 70’s, for loading and unloading of sugar, molasses and other products from the former Japanese firm, Biophil.

Adlaw sa Ormoc motocross invitational race bared

An invitational motocross competition will be held in line with the upcoming Adlaw sa Ormoc, at Sitio Talong, Brgy. Liloan on Oct. 16-17, according to organizers Dr. Kit Silva, of the city Local Registrars Office and businessman Jonathan Magan of the JS Cellshop.

Topping the list of invited riders is sixth time national motocross champion Juvy Saulog from the Manila delegation. While John Adlawan and Burnok Mangusong will each lead the teams coming from Cebu City and Davao City respectively.

At stake is a P65, 500 cash prizes and trophies for the nine categories that will be competed : Peewee Advance, Mini Category, Pantra, Endoro 125, Open Endoro, Beginners Pro, Executive Class, Prolites Category, Open production, and the Expert Category.

Dr. Silva further announced that on Oct 16, flat race for local habal-habal drivers using Honda XRM will also be held. They have invited all the habal-habal drivers to join to the race and to register early, as the accommodation for the racers would be on a first come, first served basis. Top prize for the winner of the habal-habal event is P2000 for the first price P1500 for the second price and P1000 for the 3rd price.

On the 17th, according to Magan, there will be a motorcade of all the participants of the competitions around the city, before proceeding to the actual event at the race track in Brgy. Liloan.

Brew master to introduce new beer product on Tugob Festival

The brew master of Asia Brewery Incorporated (ABI) Robert Ilagan visited Ormoc City last Tuesday, October 5 and met Ormoc City Mayor Eric “Beboy” C. Codilla at the latter’s office for a courtesy call.

It is recalled that the ABI won the product exclusivity on beer sold to Ormoc plaza and Barbecue Park patrons during the exclusivity bidding at the Mayor’s Office conference room Last July 29, this year, conducted by Ormoc Builders Association. It was also on this occasion when Engr. Joseph Frederick Pepito, ORBA president announced the launching of Tugob Festival.

Ilagan announced that ABI will introduce another product in Ormoc during the Tugob Festival on October 20. The brew master said that “ beer is safer than water”. It is because of the “pH” content ranging from 3.9-4.3, meaning it has high content of acidity range plus the alcohol and the “CO2” content, so no pathogens nor bacteria can survive in it.

Ilagan proudly said that their products are safe and have superior quality. He cited world class prestigious competitions which the company gained gold awards such as “Monde Selection.” This Monde Selection is a kind of beer quality competition, where all kinds of beers all over the world are gathered, tested and tasted. Beer na Beer won 3 gold medals for 3 consecutive years. Thus, Beer na Beer got the reputation of international high quality. Lone Star and Colt 45 won also gold medals. Now they are coming out with Manila Beer with 100% malt, but which price is affordable to everybody.

The brew master was accompanied by Tugob Festival consultant Edwin Codilla and other ABI big bosses.

Why 101,250 voters of the 4th district love Lucy Gomez

REP. LUCY Torres-Gomez impressed parents of congressional scholars of former Cong. Eufrocino Codilla Sr. when she met with them on Thursday, September 30, at the Eastern Visayas State University-Ormoc campus and told them she was not discarding them for her own scholars.
All she asked from the scholars present was to value their scholarships, reminding them that her decision to re- tain them was not easy as she also had her own supporters to think of.
The congresswoman, who spoke in Bisaya said, “Ako ihangyo kaninyo nga mga scholars ayaw ninyo usike ang inyong slot nga ako ihatag kaninyo tungod kay daghan ang nanginahanglan niini.” She addressed to this to the scholars.
To the parents, she said, “Sa ako mga leaders 15% na lamang ang ako ikahatag kanila kay anana na kaninyo ang 85%. Dili ako magtan- aw kon niboto ba mo kanako o wala, ang impotante ang pagtapos sa inyong mga anak sa pagtuon”. (I only have 15 percent of the slots remaining to give to my leaders. It does not matter if you voted for me or not, what is important is that your children can finish school.)
She also added that she would try her best to add to the number of college schol- arships the 4th district has. “Ako lamang paninguhaon nga ako kini kadugangan ug daghan pa nga mga scholars para sa economiya, kay kon mausik kini nga slots ako usab ikahatag ngadto sa lain ng nagkinahanglan”. (I will try my best to add to the number of scholars in the district. In the event that the current scholars waste their slots, then I will give it to others.)
The congresswoman also apologized to the parents and students who’ve been waiting for her since 2:30 PM. Be- cause their flight from Manila to Ormoc was delayed, they arrived at Ormoc late and had to grab a quick lunch while presiding over previously ar- ranged meetings.
On the other hand, at least four parents did not mince words in expressing their ap- preciation to Rep. Gomez’s decision.
Nenita Maglasang said “Gikalipay nako ang pagpadayon ni Cong.Lucy Torres-Gomez sa scholarship sa ako anak kay makatabang sa kalisod sa mga ginikanan”. (I am happy that she has con- tinued my child’s scholarship
because it is a big help to our plight.)
Jerisa Omaga of Coob, Tambulilid commented “Maayo kining ato bag-o nga Congresswoman kay makata- bang sa kapubri nato”. (Our new congresswoman is admi- rable. She is a big help to the poor people.)
For her part, scholar Christine B. Camorista from Kadauhan, Ormoc City and who goes to school at the Western Leyte College said “Dako ang ako kalipay nga ipadayon ni Congresswoman ang ako scholarship, labi na sa mga ginikanan nga dili makaakos pagpatungha sa ilang mga anak, dako gayud ang iyang ikatabang”. (I am very happy with the congress- woman’s decision. Continuing the scholarship is a big help to the parents in sending their students to college, specially those who can ill-afford to.)
One Mrs. Abijay, from Brgy. San Pablo, even gave a testimony in public on how she appreciated the congress- woman’s gesture of looking beyond politics and deciding to continue the scholarships.
Cong. Lucy Torres-Go- mez also gave a report on her work in Congress, saying she had to attend several commit- tee meetings every day. She said that she was Vice Chair- man of the Congressional Committee on Tourism, and a member of other committees like Agriculture, Health, Youth and Sports.
She was a member of at least 12 committees, she said, all of which she is working hard with to bring progress to the 4th district. “Basta 12 ka komitiba ang ako giapilan alang sa atong ikalambo dinhi sa kwarto distrito”.
She also honestly told her audience that as congress- woman, she was supposed to have pork barrel funds of P70-million which she said cannot even finish one major road project.
To be able to bring more projects to the district, she said, she works hard at sourc- ing from various government agencies.
To the students again, she imparted some words of advise. “Alang sa mga estudy- ante, ipakita lang ang kakugi sa pagtuon ug ang maayong grado aron dili mausik ang mga maayong kahigayonan ninyo”. (To the scholars, all I ask is for you to be studious and diligent with your studies so your scholarships won’t go to naught.)

Codilla says he’s taking tourism dev’t slowly but surely

MAYOR ERIC Codilla once again announced that Ormoc City is gearing towards a full-scale tourism promotion during his last term, but added that he is taking it slowly but surely.
He made this announcement during the Tourism Stakeholders Consultation Workshop held Friday, October 1, at the New Ormoc City Hall, sponsored by the German- funded AFOS which is behind the “WE CAN Visayas and Caraga” project which links with the various chambers of commerce in the area to develop a holistic and concrete approach to tourism. AFOS’ partner in the city is the local chamber.
“Dili man ni palumba. Sagdi lang gud ug uwahi ta, kay makaapas ra man gihapon ta”, adding the ex- ample of China and Thailand. “Ang Thailand bitaw sa una, nangiwit man na sa Pilipinas, karon nag-una na. Ang China, gitawag man na og sleeping giant, karon paspas ilang ekonomiya”, he said, to a gathering of representatives of various sectors of Ormoc society deemed as stake- holders to the tourism industry.
He also announced the launching of the 1st Tugob Festival on October
20, the city’s Charter Day, which he said if successful, he wanted to insti- tutionalize into a foundation just like Sinulog in Cebu, “so that it will have continuity”.
Tugob, he explained, means “abundant”. The festival, he added, features products identified abundant in Ormoc like sugar, pineapple, rice, even sand and gravel, etc.
Among the tourism de- velopment plans of the city, he said, is to develop Lake Danao. He informed he had put councilor Villar, a known doer, at the helm of the program. Of the P10-million needed, he said, he had already given his approval for half the amount or P5-million.
He also underscored his appreciation to AFOS for try- ing to fill the gap identified in a survey it conducted on the frequency of tourists visiting the city and nearby areas, and their feedback.
He emphasized how plan- ning is very important to the success of a project. He said he wanted 70 percent planning and 30 percent implementa- tion, to ensure that when a project is implemented it has lesser hitches because it is well planned.
Present also during the conference were resource speaker Cynthia Nierras, for- mer presidential assistant for Eastern Visayas and now back to her career post as regional director of Department of Trade and Industry; city coun- cilor Lea Doris Villar, head of the city’s committee on tour- ism; Engr. Jovencio “Boy” Laurente, president of the Ormoc Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc.; Teresa Pono and Dr. Rene Paquibot of AFOS, and locals who represented hotels, travel and tours, even en- tertainment promo- tions.
A workshop was held in the af- ternoon aimed to identify the capacity building needs of tourism stakehold- ers separated into four groups: Hotels, Restaurants and Re- sorts; Transporta- tion, travel agencies and tour operators; Pasalubong & Sou- venir Producers/ Traders; and the fourth group, “Others”.

Gov. Petilla asks teachers to enrich students on the significance of Leyte Gulf Landings so that its historical importance is not lost

TACLOBAN CITY – Leyte will be having a simple commemoration of the 66th Leyte Gulf Landings Anniversary on October 20 this year.
Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla said making sure that the younger generation know of the significance of the annual commemoration as well as the role of World War II and the Filipino war veterans in the history of the world should be given more emphasis.

“I fear that the essence and lessons of Leyte Landing and the reason why we commemorate it every year is slowly losing in the minds and hearts of our younger generation,” Gov. Petilla said.

For some of the younger ones, October 20 just means a “non-school day” which they could spend outside with friends or catch up some rest at home.

Thus, he said, his call goes to the teachers to remind the students of the significance of the Leyte Gulf Landings and why October 20 is a red-letter day for the province.

“Ha elementary and high school, talagsa nala an nakakahinumnumdum han World War II. I would say commemoration would be more meaningful if the younger ones would not forget and let the lessons and heroism of our war heroes live on still in the generation to come,” Gov. Petilla added.

The yearly Leyte Gulf Landings commemorates the landing of Gen. Douglas MacArthur on the shores of Palo, Leyte to liberate the Philippines from the Japanese occupation.

In last year’s commemoration, former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo led the 65th commemoration of the Leyte Gulf Landing at the MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park, together with former US Ambassador Kirstie Kenney, Australian Defense Attache Captain Vic Jones, Canadian Counselor James Trottier, and Japanese Ambassador Makoto Katsura.

National officials and foreign diplomats are likewise invited in this year’s celebration however the governor did not disclose the names yet.

The Philippine National Police in the province reportedly have already stepped up security measures for the upcoming October 20 commemoration as they expect foreign dignitaries, tourists and other visitors to grace the occasion. PMRC

It’s a go for the 1st Tugob Festival -ORBA

Engr. Joseph Frederick Pepito, president of the Ormoc Builders Association and proprietor of JFAP Construction, has announced that it’s definitely a go for the 1st Tugob Festival of Ormoc City, despite one contingent backing out early on.
Engr. Pepito made this announcement recently during the weekly press conference at the City Hall held every Friday.
The Tugob Festival will be held on October 20, on Ormoc’s 63rd Charter Day, in the tradition of streetdancing and a showdown similar to other well-known festivals.
Another highlight of the event is the Search for Ms Tugob, reportedly sponsored by Smart Communications.
The festival, it was learned, was backed by funding not only from the city but by the ORBA and other sponsors. Mayor Eric Codilla, in a recent speech, said that the city would only provide the “seed” for the festival to flourish on its first year, but hoped to institutionalize it in the years to come if it would be successful.
The ORBA is an elite group of contractors involved in city projects and is said to be the most moneyed and influential business group in the city. Five members were awarded as the top five taxpayers in Ormoc City by the Bureau of Internal Revenue just a few months ago.
Pepito explained that Tugob means “abundant” in the local dialect. The festival aims to showcase the 11 products identified to be abundant in the city namely: steam, water, pineapple, sugarcane, cas- sava, fish, livestock, coconut, vegetables, rice, and even sand and gravel.
To translate these products, said to in abundance in the city, into a festival, 11 schools were tapped to depict it. These are the Ipil National High School, Dolores National High School, Ormoc Sesan School, EVSU, AMA Computer College, Ormoc City National, High School, Margen
National High School, Liloan National High School, Valen- cia National High School, STI- Ormoc, and the Linao National High School.
They hope that Tugob Festival, if held annually, will eventually become a tourist attraction for the city in the likes of Sinulog in Cebu and the Masskara Fest in Bacolod.
Each contingent was given P20,000 by the ORBA as seed money, and additional from donations of stakeholders of the certain product.
The Western Leyte College, however, which was among the first to be invited to join had backed out after estimating they would be spending more than the seed money and another P20,000 from SAL’S Queen Pineapple to come up with a festival contingent. The AMA Computer College has stepped in the gap.
It was not also learned why St. Peter’s College, Sto. Niño College, Sts. Paul School are not among the contingents.
The prizes at stake are P50,000 for the 1st prize, P40,000 for the second prize and P30,000 for the third prize.

MAKATI CITY, METRO MANILA – For professional skimboarder Leo “Lungkoy” Espada, everyone has got what it takes to win and excel in this sport.

Like most professional athletes, Lungkoy started young.

“I started when I was 13. Me and my brother would watch tricks on Youtube for the tricks and then we try do them in a nearby beach,” he says.

He first hit the waves in his hometown in Tanauan, Leyte. Soon after, he discovered he was good at the sport and began joining and winning competitions.

Lungkoy says he was fortunate to be sponsored by Aloha Boardsports, a company that distributes water sports equipment and gear.

“I had no stuff for surfing, My board was broken so I called them (Aloha) to ask if I could avail of some of their gear. I wasn’t able to make a purchase because they offered to provide for everything that I needed. I was thankful for the trust they gave me.”

Lungkoy has won many notable tournaments here and abroad. He placed a respectable 5th at Victoria World Championship in skimboading held in Long Beach California, where he bested 48 other foreign surfers from all over the world.

He also won the National Skimboard Competition in Siargao Island and the Palm Beach 1st International Skimboard Competition in Hong Kong where he was awarded over-all champion earlier this year.

The 23-year-old shares that although anyone can ride a board, riding a skimboard is not exactly easy. There are certain qualities that a beginner must possess prior to learning it.

“Skimboards are lighter compared to other surfing boards but it doesn’t have fins which makes riding a little bit harder, especially if you are riding for the first attempt. It requires of you agility that if you don’t possess balance, you will never be able ride on the waves,” advises Lungkoy.

He says beginners can always practice riding from the shore.

Lungkoy adds that the while balance is key in learning how to skim, its fear and the lack of trust in oneself that really inhibits learning.

“In any sport, you will fall several times, but you will get injured only if you don’t focus,” shares Lungkoy, adding that “you will never know your limits unless you give it a try.”

Lungkoy admits that he still gets the jitters and a rumbling stomach every time he competes but manages to counter this by reflecting on his purpose.

“I try to focus instead on the tricks and techniques of my opponents and condition myself to focus on how to execute better tricks no matter what happens. When it’s finally my turn, the waves become a peaceful sanctuary to me. My fears and anxieties evaporate.”

He advises aspiring skimboarders to always have discipline. “Keep away from vices, get plenty of rest and practice as much as you can.”

Naa nato ang kinadak-an ug pinakanindot nga City Hall. Bibo kaayo ang piyer kay perting daghanang pasahero sa SuperCat ug Weesam. Fully booked ang mga hotels sa kadaghang turista. Kita-a nimo ang kilid sa Superdome nagktika-wa na ang mga opisina kay giilisan na'g mga gimikan nga perti ra bang puno sa customers inigka gabi-i.

Kada weekend dunay mga events sama sa concerts ug parties. Napun-an na sad ang mini-malls nato pag-abli sa Brodeth One Stop Shop. Bibo na ang tourism tungod sa Tugob Festival, pop music festival, etc.

Equipment lease contractors form group

Ormoc City – Twenty-three equipment lease contractors recently organized themselves into a group called the Ormoc-Kananga Equipment Lessor Association Inc. (OKELA) and held their first induction of officers ceremony last September 30 in this city.

Gil Gantuanco, inducted as first president of OKELA, said their group saw the need to unite among themselves to “level the playing field in equipment rental business.”

He said that in one of the biggest client in Leyte, for example, “only 20 precent of the awarded contracts went to the locals, while the remaining 80 percent was scattered among contractors outside the province,” he said.

Based on this situation, Gantuanco said OKELA would do something so that local contractors would get bigger share of the contracts, and in turn pay bigger taxes to the city government.

City Mayor Eric Codilla, the inducting officer, reminded all officers and members of OKELA not to allow it get involved in politics. “Make it an institution that would not be affected by whoever will be sitting as LGU executive today or in the future,” he said.

Codilla also cautioned them to be fair among themselves regardless of the respective financial capabilities, and to be honest in their dealings with one another, while maintaining quality service with their clients.

Citing the unity of the contractors, despite business competitions, the mayor said: “This is a sign of maturity among entrepreneurs, and a good sign that our city is in the right track to progress.”

Other inducted officers were Eduardo Sacay and Lorenzo Baltonado, Jr. (vice presidents), Angel Veloso III (secretary), Victor Kangleon (treasurer), Blas Arado (auditor), Anthony Martin Suarez (legal), and Javier Arradaza (business manager).

The board of directors consisted of Joseph Frederick Pepito, Rexes Morales, Ruben Mendoza, and Lorenzo Baltonado, Sr.

OKELA’s only female member Estrella Jumao-as emceed the event.

:omg: Nindot kaayo inang Gaisano Riverside Mall. Dili ko ka imagine kun unsa ka gwapo kung mahuman ilang trabaho ug sa opening. Hayz, wish I could be there sa opening. Dili basta-basta ila design mga bai, ila pud pinagwapo. Now, I must say this is a real mall from Gaisano Capital Group here in Eastern Visayas.

Nice to hear KFC is eyeing for Ormoc branch, hoping magstay longer siya unlike sa nahitabo sa GC-Tacloban branch nila. Above all, its nice to have new establishment like GRM-Ormoc daw trademark pud na sa inyo.

@mabs, for sure may department store ug supermarket diha sa GRM 'no?

wala ko kahibaw if madayon ng "al fresco" area... next time na cguro na kay nagfocus pa sila sa sulod sa mall mismo...

Mayor Beboy reveals plan of building public hospital for Philhealth Members

Ormoc City – During the Nationwide Philhealth Registration Day (NRPD) last October 2, 2010, at the Ormoc City Superdome, City Mayor Eric “Beboy” Codilla bared to Philhealth members and stakeholders his plan to build an LGU-funded hospital.

The announcement was made by the mayor during his speech, where he cleared out that instead of building the initially planned diagnostic center, it would be better to have a hospital. He further explained that this was planned since the LGU could has assessed that it can get more support from Philheath in the operations and maintenance of a hospital; thus the project is more feasible than the plan to establish a diagnostic center. He assured the public, that the city will conduct a feasibility study to make the project a reality.
He added that even without the said hospital yet, free medicines and medical services including child delivery are still available at the 3-in-1 buildings and I planning to establish another center at Brgy. Doña Mejia Feliza.

Prior to Mayor Beboy’s speech, Ma. Christine “Tin-Tin” Laraya, Philhealth Service Officer in Ormoc, mentioned that the LGU, under the mayor’s guidance has given out a counterpart financial assistance of P600 per family out of the 1,500 indigent families recognized by the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) National Household Targeting System.

Likewise, the national government through the Department of Health (DOH) has given out P600 leading to a total of P1,200 financial assistance per member that would help Ormoc’s indigent families to enjoy free one year of Philhealth membership.

Said membership will entitle indigent Ormocanon families the medical benefits and discounts in primary, secondary and tertiary hospitals.

I would be surprised that Watson's would open a branch in Ormoc , even more so at a mall owned and managed by the Gaisanos.

We all know that Watsons in the Philippines has an exclusive partnership/alliance with SM Prime Holdings, the parent group of the Philippine mall conglomerate ShoeMart.

Not that I am underestimating a probable link up with the Gaisanos and Watson Philippines management, but browsing the Watsons Philippines website and seeing that Watson branches are almost always found at SM Malls, you get the idea that Watsons in Ormoc can be somewhat an 'impossibility' anf wishful thinking as of this time.

Wondering how Gaisano's convinced Watsons to branch out in Ormoc or maybe Watsons just want that as part of their kinda feasibility study also because SM Prime's Savemore was now in a negotiation to some property owners of Ormoc?, a little far for that reason, Anyway, whatever it is, we will gonna find out in the end...soon!
We're glad on Watson's interest in Ormoc City. :)

Don't get your hopes high sa pag-abli sa Gaisano sa Sabado kay soft opening pa man to. Malamang ang mu-abli lang mao ang dept. store ug supermarket lang ug wa pa ang mga nindot nga tenants like Tom's World, Watsons, KFC, Ilonggo Grill, Moon Café, etc. Para way ma-disappoint ba. :)

Goodbye ‘piña,’ hello Tugob fest

ORMOC CITY—After years of searching for the appropriate festival to celebrate in Ormoc, the city government finally settled on one. During the meeting of the fiesta executive committee, it was agreed that Ormoc will mount the Tugob Festival on Oct. 20 at the city’s Charter Day celebration.

Joseph Frederick A. Pepito, president of Ormoc Builders Association who chairs the fiesta executive committee, said tugob is a Visayan word for “abundant” and as such, the festival will celebrate the abundance of Ormoc’s natural resources.

The festival will replace the city-sponsored sports activities on Charter Day now that the Ormoc School Sports Organization has turned active.

In 2003, then-Mayor Carmelo J. Locsin introduced the Piña Festival, but was discontinued the next year by incumbent Mayor Eric C. Codilla. Unlike the Piña festival which centered only on the queen pineapple, the tugob festival will showcase all of Ormoc’s major livestock and crops like sugar cane, fish, rice, coconut, pineapple, vegetables and cassava, as well as its natural resources like steam, water and minerals.

The fiesta execom has come up with P500,000 seed money for the activities to include a parade which will culminate in a street-dancing contest that will be participated in by pupils from 10 schools. Each school will represent an industry and will be sponsored by companies and organizations involved in each industry.

Prizes at stake are P50,000 for the first prize, P40,000 second prize, P30,000 third prize and P20,000 consolation prize.

The meeting was also attended by councilor Lea Doris Capuyan-Villar who chairs the committee on tourism; execom consultant Edwin Codilla; Planning and Development Officer I Ira Hermoso-Bantasan; and administrative Aide III Agnes Capahi-Seguenza.

Gaisano Riverside Mall to open on Oct. 23, Prince Garden Mall in Baybay

OCTOBER WILL see the opening of two malls in the province, the Gaisano Riverside Mall at Brgy. Alegria, which is tentatively scheduled to open on October 23 and the Prince Garden Mall in Baybay, the exact date of which is undisclosed as yet.
Alfie Adlawan, manager, said that they are trying their best to meet the scheduled opening which would be a “grand opening”. However, he said he would rather say that it is still a tentative schedule, as they are still waiting for stocks to arrive.
Nonetheless, he expressed confidence that they could meet the schedule and added they would be announcing the final date in the week to come.
Adlawan said that the Gaisano Riverside Mall is a three level building with the basement to be used as their grocery section. He said it will be a big grocery with a big meat and wet section.
The first and second floors would be for the department store, with a mall area with locators like drugstores, specialized boutiques, restaurants and other amenities found in usual malls in other bigger cities.
The third floor, he added, would be for their stocks which they are now on the process of completing.
Adlawan said that the new Gaisano Riverside Mall is also owned by the same Gaisano that is operating the Ormoc Gaisano Mall. But the new location would offer a real malling experience at par with that of big cities.
On the other hand, the Prince Warehouse in Baybay would also be opening its first mall in the Visayas. Veering away from the usual warehouse signature of the Prince chain, owner Robert Go said they decided to open up their first mall in Baybay to cater to neighboring towns down to Southern Leyte, to give clients a new lifestyle destination.
He said their consultants include those that developed The Terraces at Ayala in Cebu, as they move to offer residents in the area a “lifestyle destination’.
They are targeting to open sometime this October and has started recruiting staff and personnel for the mall. He said they would soon be announcing the exact date of the opening.

Gekan pa ko didto BOSS naggrocery hehe. Naa pud cla home appliance ang half sa sulod. High ceiling cya. I like the grocery ug ila sulod kay naay feel of a mall. Ila tenants sa gawas ra then ang naa sa sulod kay Luz Pharmacy ug coffee shop..
@jyvo, wala ko pix sa dance competition kay naa man ang Ormoc Photographers Society sa ila nalang ta pix mukita kay maau gyud pagkakuha hehe. Niperform pud ang current Sinulog Winner.
Right now. I'm in the city plaza and super daghan ayo taw diri grabe haha..it's my first time to be with a huge crowd here kay dili baya ko laagan but I got to watch the fireworks display then go home after. Dili nalang ko mukita sa Stagecrew ug Aegis concert kay got to go home after the fireworks na. Hehe!
Anyway, HAPPY 63rd Birthday Ormoc! Happy 63rd Charter Day! God bless Ormoc! :)

aw sayang nisulod unta ka ug nikita kay historical baya to kay first gud hehehe! Around 6pm man ko adto ug BOSS hehe!

Agay kalabad sa akong ulo, nadaot sa choco brandy gabi-i. Sige lang kay kainom man sad nako ang duha ka hot babes ug mura'g nindot ang impression nila nako kay lami ilang katawa sa mga pasiaw ko. Nindot sad ang disco gabi-i sa plaza kay pulos club music ang gipatukar, gipaundang lang 1:00 kay dunay nag-rumble.

Waaah! Gubot na ang syudad sa Ormoc ron tungod kay sukad pa ganiha nagsugod na ang parade sa Riverside Mall ug saba na kaayo! While I'm on my way to Robinsons Tacloban, this afternoon i'm gonna be at Riverside Mall naman! So excited! Hahaha! Naay "Libreng Sakay" ang Riverside Mall from downtown to the mall and I think vice versa. Nagpagasolina na ang mga "Libreng Sakay" multicab ganiha. Then at 10am official na magopen ang mall with free t-shirts daw and free sample too. Then later, celebrity guests, bands and more surprises. WOW! See you this afternoon Riverside Mall! :)

@carl ya kinda disappointed ko sa flooring... dili hamis ang tiles nga gegamit, gekan baya ko sa Robinsons pagkamorning then afternoon pag sulod nako sa Riverside Mall naunsa ba ang tiles nga dili gyud hamis nalainan ko kay ako na imagine pareho sa robinsons sus dili diay naglabad gud akong ulo ug samot hahaha! Pero bugnaw kaayo kay first pa man hehe...

Anyway, daghan kaayo ug kalingawan or fun ug surprises gahapon sa opening sa Riverside Mall, from free food tasting/sample, videoke challenge, free tshirts, libreng sakay, mga nagkalat nga mga mascot, paint man, firedancers, concert sa parking area ug uban pa... ug as expected grabe gyud ka traffic padung sa Alegria. Then impressive ila fireworks display pagkagabie, lupig ang fireworks sa Charter Day. haha!

Ang klaro ra nga nag open is the supermarket and department store and some tenants ra, daghan pa kaayong tenants ang soon to open pa. But grabe gyud gehapon ang taw haha!

Lucy gets Tourism Authority’s nod for P15-million for Lake Danao, Palompon tourism development projects

The proposed developments at Lake Danao include a floating pavillion, ziplines and wakeboarding facilities.

REP. LUCY TORRES-GOMEZ has a piece of good news for the 4th District of Leyte. Philippine Tourism Authority general manager Mark Lapid, the eldest son of Senator Mark Lapid, has approved the release of P15-million for the district for the development of tourism facilities at Lake Danao in Ormoc City and a tourism center in mainland Palompon as well as developing the Tres Marias islets.
The tourism development plans have already been drawn up by the TIEZA (Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority), a team of which visited various places in the district with tourism potential early in the congresswoman’s term. The TIEZA are considered the “infrastructure arm” of the Department of Tourism, which has a team of engineers considered experts in the field of eco-tourism programs.
For the facilities at Lake Danao, it was emphasized that all would be ecologically friendly.
Rep. Gomez said that she made sure that this was followed, knowing the delicate ecosystem of the lake.
For Lake Danao
In a copy of the plans obtained by this paper, it showed that the facilities proposed for development at Lake Danao is a floating pavilion with two guest rooms and a floating jetty for bancas and rafts and on the left side. On the right side will be a landing pad for two ziplines to be harnessed on a high point across the lake while the left side will have two lines for wakeboarding.
The aforementioned activities are considered eco-friendly as they will not used motorized equipments, a no-no for Lake Danao.
Contamination from oil and lubricants in the lake is strictly avoided because it is also the source of water for Tacloban City and many towns in the Waray part of Leyte island.
Accordingly, the floating pavilion will use “magic float” materials, commonly used in water infrastructures in major tourist spots and guaranteed non-toxic.
For Palompon
On the other hand, the tourism authority’s proposed development for Palompon town is a tourism wharf complex at the mainland. This will be located at the back of the municipal building.
On the ground floor will be a tourism office, a comfortable lounge. On the second floor will be rooms. There will also be a rooftop ideal for an open-air lounge and restaurant cum bar.
At the Tres Marias Marine Sanctuary, a sturdy boardwalk will be built. At the middle of the sea, a big all weather cottage on stilts will be constructed.
The development of tourism is a major concern of the Gomezes.
It was one of the campaign battlecry, saying that tourism will prime start the development of the economy by bringing in money to the locality, jobs and employment, and future investments from the visitors.

Hello Guys... I need your help...
I just want to know kung ilang oras yung byahe from Manila to Tacloban if i'm going to ride in a bus...gusto ko kasing ma-experience yung malayuang byahe..... at kung may idea rin kayo kung magkano ang pamasahe... more thanks in advance...

punta ka sa Cubao Bus Station,,tapat ng Ali Mall, makikita mo dun ang mga bus papuntang Tacloban..fare may vary from 800 to 1000..travel time about 24 hours..
