Mayor Romualdez observes new re-routing scheme

TACLOBAN CITY - Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez personally observed and monitored early morning yesterday the re-routing of passenger vehicles coming from the south of the City like Palo, Tolosa, Tanauan, others diverting its route from the Boys Scout junction (Coca-cola) directly to the Abucay new bus terminal passing through the Maharlika highway instead of going to Real Street and on to the downtown proper.

The re-routing is part the administration’s initiative in addressing the traffic congestion in the commercial district which have been the clamor of establishment owners whose fronts are being used as terminal of these passenger vehicles while soliciting and/or waiting for passengers thereby hampering their business operation in the process.

According to Romualdez, the re-routed vehicles are not totally prohibited from entering the city proper-saying that they can do so until 8 a.m. only, but beyond that time all of them must proceed to their designated area at Abucay or else they will be apprehended by the police officers and traffic enforcers.

This means that the concerned vehicles must leave early with their passengers from their respective point of origins- calculating their time of arrival to the city proper before the prohibited time. This way, according to the Mayor, all the employees working in the different government and private offices in the city, or those that has transactions in whatever office, aboard the vehicle could reach their respective destinations on time.

At 5 p.m. and onwards, which is in time for going home after office hours, those vehicles are again allowed to enter the city proper using the old route which is passing through Real Street to old road Sagkahan - Pampanggo- Burgos Streets to Sabang District and on to the exit passing through the new Abucay terminal.

The passengers coming from the south or those which are affected by the re-routing, have now the option to disembark at the Boy Scout junction and take another vehicle straight to downtown or just go directly to the terminal.

In a random and casual talks with several drivers plying San Jose and Marasbaras area, they said the idea is good because it would mean additional income for them once they could pick up the passengers that would drop at the junction going downtown. The same is true with those that would opt to drop at the Abucay terminal because they will be conveyed by the multicabs plying the Anibong, Naga-Naga, and Abucay routes. Upon reaching at the heart of the city, they could take motorcab for hire (MCH) available.

Mayor Romualdez, pointed out that the re-routing has nothing to do with the on-going EVRAA meet or the upcoming Palarong Pambansa saying that this is part of the changes in the City now that it is already highly urbanized city, a city that is still growing, where more people are coming in especially that the first biggest mall in Tacloban, the Robinsons Mall, is set to open for business in June this year or barely two months from now.

the new kyle's kc has somewhat like native in style and ambience except with the pool at the background, (pangit pa ng entrance) hehehee,
wyl the old one is kinda classy, sorrounded by bits and pieces of antique items inside an old house....:)

You know what,if you really have plans to buy something at a particular suki store,even if it'll take you lengths to do so,you will really go there.

Its really silly for business owners to reason out that way or even feel threatened by big establishments such as Robinsons thinking that their business will be down once these giant will open. I mean,look at Cebu City,it has mega SM and Ayala Center but then business in downtown Colon is still crowded and thriving. Even Gaisano Colon is always jampacked with shoppers.

me too, especially the roof.... dtz y it was called an astrodome before, coz the roof was supposed to be a dome, but sad to say, everything has changed..the roof is no a longer a dome and has been changed to somewhat lyk a residential roof...hehehe.... and during the construction period, the fence condorned around the site was named as tacloban coliseum....tsk...tsk...tsk.... well, i guess, Mr. Yaokasin (former administrator) had someting to do with this.....

MANILA, Philippines — Judy Lardizabal, a law graduate from the San Sebastian College, emerged on top of the 1,310 examinees who passed the 2008 Bar Examination.

The exam's 20.58 percent passing rate was lower than last year’s 22.91 percent. A record 6,364 examinees from 108 law schools took the test in September 2008. For the complete list of bar exam passers, click this.

What stores will be opening on May 21? From what i understand,basta soft opening,its the Supermarket which is always the main highlight.

^^ Noong nag soft opening yung GC Supermarket, Department Store, at KFC yung nagopen.

Ah ok. Hay i was at downtown yesterday and i pretty much lament the fact that its getting way too congested already.

They should really come up with formulations to build another commercial business district with better strategy and development.

Abucay is a good site. Along Maharlika Highway near Camp Pitik would be an alternative.

The problem with Abucay at present,if they are really serious of transforming that place into another CBD,is that buildings are mushrooming there wherever they please. I mean would you like to see a nice skyscraper next to a bodega or warehouse in the near future (20-30 years from now) granting that Abucay will become the "Makati" of Tacloban?

^^ The city should have a proper urban planning for that area.
