PETALING JAYA: The Terengganu state government has approved the lease of land in Batu Burok to build and operate a new 130-bed specialist hospital in Kuala Terengganu, according to TDM Bhd.
“The new eight-storey hospital will replace the current Kuala Terengganu Specialist (KTS) hospital which is operating at or near maximum capacity,” said its chairman, Datuk Roslan Awang Chik, said in a statement.
“The hospital, on a 23,424 sq m land, will be the city’s flagship specialist hospital that will serve the approximately 338,000 people of Kuala Terengganu.”
TDM CEO Badrul Hisham Mahari said the project would cost RM170.2mil, excluding the cost of the land lease and incidental fees.
The hospital is expected to be completed in 24 months.
Roslan said construction would start immediately after the lease documents were signed with Tabung Amanah Warisan Negeri Terengganu, which owns the land.
Badrul Hisham said the project would be financed by internally-generated funds and/or bank borrowings.

ayee_75 June 1st, 2012, 05:56 AM KYM to sign RM300m medical hub deal soon
By Francis FernandezPublished: 2009/06/17
The medical complex project in Malacca is expected to see KYM back in the black as early as next year, says KYM group managing director
Property developer KYM Holdings Bhd (8362)is expected to sign an agreement as early as next week to help build a RM300 million medical complex in Malacca, its group managing director Datuk Raymond Chong Thin Choy said.
"Construction of the medical hub should start by early next year," Chong told Business Times in an interview.
The federal government-funded project, under the Ministry of Health, will include construction of a state health administration centre, nursing institute and public health laboratory.
KYM, controlled by Datuk Lim Kheng Yew, will have 70 per cent stake, while its partner in the venture, Yayasan Melaka, a state government agency, will hold the remaining 30 per cent.
The project is expected to see KYM back in the black as early as next year, said Chong.
"We are targeting to break even in the financial year ending January 31 2010 and rake in sustainable profits from 2011 onwards."
KYM last reported a profit of RM28.7 million in 2006.
Its return to profitability and planned transformation from property developer to infrastructure player hinge largely on the sale of its landbank in Perak to Brazil's Vale SA, the world's biggest iron ore producer.
Completion of the multi-million-ringgit deal will help KYM degear itself, bringing its gearing ratio to as low as 0.41 time, or RM29.08 million, from the current 8.94 times, or RM209.73 million, while its net tangible asset is poised to rise to 89 sen a share from 29 sen.
The metal producer, which intends to pump in as much as RM9 billion into the Perak economy, has agreed to buy land in the silver state from KYM for RM101.9 million.
Vale also has an option to buy more land from KYM for RM93.7 million.
"It's truly a godsend," said Chong, adding that KYM is hoping to get as much as 10 per cent, or RM900 million worth, of the construction contracts on offer by Vale.
Securing RM900 million worth of jobs could help keep KYM busy for the next three years. Vale is expected to start developing the land as early as next year.
Chong also said that KYM in-tends to venture into quarrying in Perak to complement Vale's operational needs.
Where is the location for this project, Melaka which area? Is it under construction?

Nightingale Associates is currently designing a luxury private hospital in Malaysia. The 400-bed Specialist Hospital, for KPJ Healthcare Berhad, will provide a range of one-stop ‘Centres of Excellence’ catering for both local and international patients.
The unique design is inspired by the concept of ‘the healing hand’. Its curved ‘palm’ accommodates a central atrium and a ‘hot core’ that includes central imaging, endoscopy, pharmacy, theatres, intensive care, emergency, restaurant and teaching facilities. The main concourse houses two levels of retail space.
The Centres of Excellence protrude through a glazed atrium to form ‘fingers’. These are oncology, cardiology, orthopaedics, general and elderly medicine, cosmetic and reconstructive, and woman and children.
The first phase is scheduled to start on-site in mid-2012.

1Malaysia clinics provide affordable health care

Great financial relief:
Patients registering at the 1Malaysia clinic in Rasah Jaya, Seremban.
MALACCA: The 1Malaysia clinic which was introduced by the government has provided the public, especially those living in rural areas with greater access to basic health care services for a low fee.
One of the 1Malaysia clinics, which opened in Taman Merdeka, gave Mohd Salim Manap a great financial relief as he frequently has to send his daughter who suffers from asthma to the clinic for medical attention.
He said previously, he would send his daughter to the nearest private clinic which would cost at least RM30 per visit resulting in a monthly medical expenditure of over RM200 a month.
Now he only pays RM1 for each visit to the 1Malaysia clinic, which has eased his financial burden considerably.
The 1Malaysia clinic programme is an initiative under the Cost of Living NKRA offering the public alternative means for daily and basic necessities at lower prices in face of the rising cost of living that have affected the low- to middle-income households.
There are 50 clinics nationwide to date and they are opened daily from 10am to 10pm offering affordable treatment for fever, cold and other minor ailments.
The clinics also provide1Malaysia clinics a boon to poorfollow-up treatment for diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and first aid services like cleaning wounds.

nazrey August 3rd, 2012, 06:30 PM KPJ strengthens foothold in East M’sia
Posted on August 3, 2012, Friday
http://www.theborneopost.com/2012/08/03/kpj-strengthens-foothold-in-east-msia/
KUCHING: KPJ Healthcare Bhd’s (KPJ) acquisition of the remaining stake in Sabah Medical Centre Sdn Bhd (SMC) – the operator of Sabah Medical Centre – has been regarded as a strategically sound move as it would allow the former to strengthen its foothold in East Malaysia.
The healthcare group recently announced that it had entered into an agreement to acquire the remaining 49 per cent stake in SMC for a cash consideration of RM54.9 million, which would be financed via internally-generated funds.
RHB Research Institute Sdn Bhd (RHB Research) noted in a research report yesterday that SMC had reported a net profit of RM5.8 million for the financial year ended December 31, 2011 (FY11), representing approximately four per cent of KPJ’s FY11 earnings.
“While the acquisition consideration of RM54.9 million implies a target FY12 price earnings ratio (PER) of 17.6 to 16.8 times, we believe the acquisition is still attractive as the state has a lower ratio of public hospital beds per 10,000 population of 12.9 as compared to the nation’s average of 13.3.
“We believe this presents ample opportunity for KPJ to grow its market share in the state. Furthermore, operational risk is lower, in our view, as the hospital was already managed by KPJ since mid-2010.”
The target PER was on the assumption of FY12 earnings growth of 10 to 15 per cent for the hospital, and was higher than its previous average acquisition PER range of eight to 12 times, RHB Research stated.
Separately, the research house noted that KPJ was currently constructing a new hospital building (comprising 250 beds) to replace the existing Sabah Medical Centre, which would eventually be converted into a public hospital.
It added that first phase of the new Sabah Medical Centre (comprising 100 beds) was scheduled for opening in the third quarter (3Q) 2012 and thus, should begin contributing from FY13 onwards.
The research house made no changes to earnings forecasts for FY12 to FY14 (at RM153.6 million for FY12, RM185.1 million for FY13 and RM223 million for FY14) and as it had earlier projected sufficient capital expenditure of RM200 million for the same time period.
RHB Research noted that risks to its forecast “include lower-than-expected patient numbers, if there is slower-than-expected economic recovery or a serious disease outbreak (such as SARS or swine flu) in Malaysia.
“A slower-than expected turnaround in loss-making hospitals would also be a drag on earnings growth,” it added while making enterprise value per bed assumptions of RM1.25 million for FY13 and RM1.12 million for FY14.
Concurrently, the group’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) margin was forecasted to dip from 13.4 per cent for FY12 to 12.6 and 12.5 per cent for FY13 and FY14 respectively.
“We continue to like KPJ for its aggressive expansion plans which should help it maintain its dominance in the local healthcare sector,” it opined as it maintained the stock’s fair value at RM6.86 per share based on an unchanged 2013 PER of 23.5 times.

Who's the Design Architect & Consultants for this grand hospital? Based on the brief information on number of beds and hotel room capacity, it works out to be pretty costly for such facility.
As it's almost a billion ringgit development of public funding - notwithstanding whatever the financial arrangement - the details should be transparent. Where are the NGO's to safeguard our interest....!!
