December 14th, 2007, 08:44 PM
Well... in fact the towers are quite simple buildings, they're just the kind of building you can find in any other city in the world. But this one's unique, original, and it WON'T destroy nothing, it'll densify the area and make a distinctive icon of the modern Madrid :)

I think there is a problem with the render:

The building will be made of silver metal and it doesn´t look like that in the image.

That is obviously fundamental to know how the building will be.

It will be totally unique in my opinion and nothing to do with cheese but sith a futuristic capsul or planet. That is the idea of the architects, not others.

Great addition to the city. Thought the four tower decision was little bit too bold for a city like Madrid in the beginning, but it looked pretty good. Looking forward to the cheese, in the latest designs it will have reflecting glass facade, correct?

Another interesting fact is that it will be a 150 meters wide while only 120 in heigth. I diden't realize it was going to be that massive but the hole of the site gives u an idea.

How does the crash in the real estate market in spain affect this project and others in Madrid? :dunno:

This project hasen't been affected sense the city is paying for it i believe, but the crash of the real state market in spain mainly affected the residencial properties because of the overbuilding in the contruction sector . Office space is always needed in Madrid, there is still growth every year. It does have mostly affected prices doh cheaper to rent or own.

Spain seems to be recovering like other european countries but at a slower pace, a lot of spaniards are blamming the banks for not letting loans to be so accesible. But will see in 2010... I do hear some ghost stories that spain could collapse and some other crazy rumors but again lets remmenber spain was the 8th power of the world (dont know anymore) but they have a lot of big companies and banks in latin america and the tougth of spain economy collapsing is just ridiculous. They do have 20% unemployedment, but go figure last time I visit Spain in 2007 the city was overtaken by imigration it was incredible the amount of imigrants no wonder now in the hard times is hard to find a job. To much people came in the boom. Crisis + to much growth= 20% unemployment. It's sad my friend toll me a lot of them had to go back to their countries, its really hard for them because they came to make a better living, and now they can't get a job. :ohno:

Well not much has happen here. They finally finish the hole and the bid for the next phase of the project, can't remember which construction company won but they will build the 1,910 parking spaces and the auditoriums that are located underground and will continue construction up to ground level. Then the project will stop. At that point and depending on how much the deficit has lowered they will decide how much they will spend in the next phase. This building is going to take a while...

This is the kind of building that people either love it or hate it, just as the Tour Eiffel at its time or London´s fuse-like tower in recent years. Will this building become madrid's typical postcard icon? may be ... I like it. I lived in Madrid for three years, and in my view the architects have taken into account something very important: the building will reflect the changing colours of Madrid's pristine sky (cielos velazquenos, Spaniards use to call them, because they were wonderfully painted by Velazquez). Madrid is the highest of European capitals and its sky has a unique and rich array of colours among European capitals. From time to time I went to the Patio de Armas of the Palacio the Oriente at dusk just to contemplate them ...

As for me, thumbs up for this avant-gardiste project¡¡¡ congratulations madrilenos¡

who's the architect? looks good

Mansilla + Tunon Architects.

It slightly improves the poor "skyline" but what's the sense of putting a monstrous stand-alone building next to those four lonely skyscrapers in an area that lacks urbanity?
The facade looks great though.

This project got it's final approval last month, is next to the 4 towers and the cheese. Do not worry they know what they are doing. We just have to be patient, Spain is not China. Here are a couple of pictures from project in the Shanghai expo.

This looks like a stereo speaker or a travel luggage than a cheese. The design is a a little too restrained. Not quite a fan of it.

Don´t worry for beautiful skyline of Madrid. In some years there´ll be more skyscrapers, some of 300 meters, if you dont like this four with the round building.

It´s true. Barcelona doesn´t act like this, it´s more like Lille because it doesn´t have any building of 250 meters. They have similar policy in that sense both cities. It´s nothing wrong, it´s simply more classical and traditional than Madrid, dear friend.

I like it quite a bit, it will be the only convention center with height in Europe with views of the city with 12m tall ceilings. The facade is part of the structure so there is no columns close to the windows. It is a little wide but convention centers need that square footage, the solution into making it round makes is looks less massive than a square wall type of building. Remember, is just a render for now and i have ate my own words before judging a building before its completion.

This is behind the towers so it doesn't ruin anything, if not it only compliments because the four towers are very close in height and this will bring some balance. Also from the best skyline view of Madrid this building will be sideways partially cover by the Kio towers. The only thing i dislike about the renders are the buildings that are next to the round main building, they have to much of a similar facade I think they should be another color or a completely different solution for them. Convention centers normally feel like big basements with no windows this will be a great spot for expositions or a car show.

I can´t wait for the Operación Chamartín to kick off next to this building:)

The mix of high quality architecture, 1,2 million m2 office space, 17.000 homes, a large transportation hub and a central park is very promising. It will also be a great successor for the aging AZCA business district.

The phase to reach ground level according to plans has been completed, due to the economy this building is been build by phases. It will be paralized until the next part of the budget is acquired.

I got that "sinking feeling" when I saw the renders on the first pages
the most hideous thing I had ever seen!

But the last renders look so much better, uff relief.. I actually like it now, I am all for innovation within good taste I think this will be a great addition to Maadrid's urban scene.

I particularly like the way it balances the vertical feel of the surrounding buildings
bringing it all together into a cohesive grouping.

Barcelona is the butt joke of spain
Giant dildos and an ugly ass cathedral that will never be finished.
they want their achitecture to be so avant garde that it ends up being utturly ridiculous and tasteless.
