Krist0f June 7th, 2007, 08:29 PM Go La Defense!
The tower will fit there well!
Crizzy June 7th, 2007, 09:11 PM I think it's ugly!
BMXican June 7th, 2007, 09:34 PM it's all right. the design tries to hard to be cool though. it all depends on the cladding.
ChrisDVD June 7th, 2007, 09:36 PM it's not ugly, it's original, unique.
I love the trees inside it, and how on one side the curves goes...
i'm gonna say like KrystOf ... Go la Défense!
Michelino June 7th, 2007, 09:38 PM Actually I like it a lot. If only the cladding would really be looking like aluminium, that would be cool! It reminds me of the Frankfurt Hoch Vier office tower.
GENIUS LOCI June 7th, 2007, 09:39 PM Strange name... and strange shape
Minato ku June 7th, 2007, 09:44 PM An other name of this tower is Marijuana.
It is that smoke architect and look at the green.
Phobos June 7th, 2007, 11:34 PM An other name of this tower is Marijuana.
It is that smoke architect and look at the green.
Oh man stop using Majunga..that's bad for you
R@ptor June 7th, 2007, 11:38 PM Nice design. But the tower should be 30m higher in order to stand out a bit.
ROYU June 7th, 2007, 11:41 PM Very nice tower. Nice addition to La Defense.
Sbz2ifc June 8th, 2007, 12:51 AM Oh man stop using Majunga..that's bad for you
Not only Viguier uses Majunga, Thom Mayne was also getting high on Majunga when he designed Tour Phare. :D
tanzirian June 8th, 2007, 05:36 AM Curvy towers seem to be in vogue in La Defense. Don't think too highly of this one, but at least will add some variety in contrast to the older slabs.
MasonicStage™ June 8th, 2007, 11:00 AM well, i think it's nice!
great184 June 8th, 2007, 11:29 AM Its design should be judged once its constrcuted
Stephan23 June 8th, 2007, 11:33 AM Great one!!! Want a stunner for this great district!!!!!
SkyLerm June 8th, 2007, 06:51 PM Nice zig-zag facade.

x-boy January 12th, 2008, 11:54 PM curved facade with cubes, and planes have nothing to do

HD April 19th, 2008, 09:43 PM I kinda prefered the previous design. still a great project though
edubejar May 13th, 2008, 05:09 PM I love it. The zig-zag and 3 layer effect is awesome! Is it still only proposed?
ZZ-II May 13th, 2008, 10:47 PM would fit better in NYC IMO :)
elliot May 14th, 2008, 10:37 PM dbl post
elliot May 14th, 2008, 10:37 PM Thank goodness La Defense is a minor footnote in the urban story that is world's most beautiful city. Sometimes I think these developers are determined to go too Phar, just to dilute the city of light's sublime beauty. Shame.
edubejar May 17th, 2008, 01:10 AM Thank goodness La Defense is a minor footnote in the urban story that is world's most beautiful city. Sometimes I think these developers are determined to go too Phar, just to dilute the city of light's sublime beauty. Shame.
It could be worse. It could be more 60s and 70s type of architecture, such as "commieblocks". Look at the HLMs in the Paris region. At least these towers are sleak and of much better material. Those kind of buildings are many times more an eyesore and they are much more numerous than the skyscrapers in La Défense which atleast are made of cool glass and such rather than boring conrete.
So to you beauty is only traditional and historical? Do you like the Parisian-style buildings built during the Haussmann period (mid and late 1800s) that dominate Paris, and the many early 1900s buildings that followed a lot of "Hausmann" standards and charateristics? I will assume you do since it dominates Paris and you are calling Paris the most beautiful city in the world, which you wouldn't do if you didn't like something that is dominant about it. Well, those buildings are so different from older 16th, 17th and 18th century houses that make up a big portion of the remaining Paris (Saint-Louis island, Le Marais, Belleville, Latin Quarter, etc). And that's different from what came even before, i.e. Gothic.
Changes are good. This includes sleak skyscrapers.
Densaga August 28th, 2008, 06:18 PM Construction should begin in the end of the year (or early 2009)

Ekumenopolis August 28th, 2008, 10:01 PM Not bad, but i don't know if its a perfect shape for Paris...
Angelino August 30th, 2008, 10:52 PM Like an abstract painting, it has Paris written all over it. Bravo Paris

Veejay_ May 20th, 2009, 01:09 AM J'aime bien, hopefully will stand out a bit more in real life. I don't think is going too far, it's just what La Défense is.
Jex7844 January 7th, 2010, 07:38 PM Some "improvements"(well, for some people lol) have been added compared to last time, therefore this is how "Majunga" tower would look like if it was to get built straight away.

I think it's pretty lovely actually,I just hope they're gonna stick to it now.
Ni3lS January 8th, 2010, 12:29 AM It looks awesome. How are the chances of this tower being built?
Jex7844 January 8th, 2010, 01:19 AM It looks awesome. How are the chances of this tower being built?
Well its chances are very good actually! The building permit should be obtained in the next few weeks and its construction(if everything's alright) is due end 2010.
There are many towers planned in "La Défense" ("Air2","Carpe Diem","Générali","Phare","D2","Hermitage Plaza" my favourite lol,"Ava","First" drawing to a close,"Signal" likely to get cancelled though...,but also "Triangle" (intra muros as far as this one is concerned!)
I invite you to check them out if you want dude:
http://www.defense-92.com/lesprojets.html
Futhermore, some big announcement(about some of those big projects) is to be made on 18 january by the EPAD (the organisation running the Défense district),I look forward to it :)
There are some threads in english mate(about Paris & its projects),you're very welcome to join us!Bye
leohamilton January 8th, 2010, 01:43 AM i think this tower is great, but for cities like toronto or sidney, but for paris? i think paris needs some more traditional than this building.
sorry for my english :P
Ni3lS January 8th, 2010, 04:10 AM Hmm.
I know about all those projects because I'm looking through them every single time they come up in this part of the forum. Most of them are indeed proposed which is quite sad. Except for the new Axa one which is almost finished and this 100m tower but I forgot the name of it.
Jex7844 January 8th, 2010, 01:15 PM Sorry then...lol The 100m tower you're thinking about must be the "Tour Mozart".The other projects are "proposed" indeed but as I previously said,on 18 January many of them should be officially validated.
I dunno whether you understand french a bit or not but just in case here is an article added yesterday by a french comrade (Cyril) http://www.challenges.fr/magazine/strategie/0194.028152/la_dfense_srige_en_cit_financire.html.
The most important bit being:
PS: "coup d'accélérateur le 18 janvier" means roughly "speeding gear on 18 January".If you need some more help to translate, just let me know.
JoHaN 15 January 11th, 2010, 10:46 AM The model that Minato Ku posted looks a lot better than the render. Nice tower :)

Ni3lS August 29th, 2010, 03:14 PM Sweet. So it's approved for sure. Preparation maybe?
Minato ku August 29th, 2010, 04:29 PM ^^ If there is a building permit, the tower is approved for sure.
The preparation does not started yet, the area is like that since the demolition of an old residencial complex in 2005.

Jex7844 October 26th, 2010, 01:41 AM Well, nobody seems to care but work is to start very shortly now. Today indeed, Philippe Chaix, the Epad director (organization running La Défense's district) took stock of the Plan de Renouveau de la Défense & announced that 'works will be launched in the next few days'.

Jex7844 November 30th, 2010, 06:40 PM Launched by Unibail, the construction of the 194m skyscraper will start late January in La Défense.
UNIBAIL RODAMCO (UNBP.PA: Quote) Europe's biggest listed property group will start
construction of the Majunga tower in Paris' La Defense business
district in late January, newspaper Le Figaro reported, without
citing sources. [UNBP.PA]
http://af.reuters.com/article/energyOilNews/idAFLDE6AS26120101130
^^ Last paragraph says: ' Other project in La Défense that might speed up: the Twin Towers by russian group Hermitage. A pharaonic 2 billion € project for which financing is taking shape. 'We signed letters of intent with a bank pool for us to be able to finance 700 millions €, Emin Iskenderov (Hermitage CEO) asserts. By the end of the year, the definitive contract will be concluded.'

danielip January 5th, 2011, 01:29 AM Hey Jex, what does "La Defense" mean?
Jex7844 January 6th, 2011, 04:39 PM Hi danielip,
It literally means ' the defence' and refers to the below statue which was erected to the glory of soldiers having defended Paris during the 1870 franco-german war.
La Défense was born roughly 50 years ago. It was created from A to Z and replaced slums & farms(it's hard to beleive but yes, La Défense used to be a slum... :uh:)

Here's a nice video found on Eiffage's website:
http://www.eiffageconstruction.com/FR/news/tour-majunga-la-defense.html
The excavation work, started in January & due to last 7 months, is very complex owing to the presence of quarry gaps in the subsoil which need to be filled in, & geotechnical irregularities to be dealt with. The building work will start in september 2011 and the tower will be delivered in December 2013.

Talisker July 21st, 2011, 07:20 PM The excavations look like hard work, compared to London. Is that bedrock they're digging into? (sorry, construction isn't my speciality)
Jex7844 July 22nd, 2011, 12:36 AM Indeed Talisker, they've been having a rough time owing to the presence of massive hard rocks (visible in some of the above pics), that's a bit of a nightmare to shatter them...but otherwise, works are coming along nicely, lots of action everyday, the excavation work should be done within a couple of weeks (imo), a big crane is being assembled & will be completed by saturday. I'll try to update this thread as often as I can. BFN

Trademarc September 4th, 2011, 07:48 PM Thanx for the update Jex
Unfortunately I missed this site at my last visit. Anyway, looks like things just seriously getting started right now.
I'm curious what Defense's second highest is gonna add to the area. Personally I think the design is interesting, fitting well in La Defense and 194 m is very welcome here.
REAPER666 94 September 4th, 2011, 07:56 PM I just recently visited La Defence for the first time , and I was wondering is it normal for French office workers to stick cartoon characters or game characters in the windows of their offices , really messes with some of the buildings flow.
Trademarc September 4th, 2011, 08:36 PM Well, I did see it at at other spots in Paris too, like on the Tour Montparnasse. I cannot tell if I find it's funny or disturbing. A littlebit of both, I guess.
It reminds me of a documentary I saw about street art (Banksy). There's a part about a French street artist (Invader) who was making these kind of images. Maybe he's been an inspiration to the French office workers???

That's a pity mate...but next time, just know that the site is easily accessible, it's located behind the ARIANE Tower (its name is written on the facade, you can't miss it).
I personally love Majunga, its design is very modern & nice looking, it's gonna add something special to the skyline for sure! :)
Regarding those stickers on the offices' windows, it was actually part of a contest called 'POST IT WAR'.

Next time I will definately pay a visit to this one. Hopefully by that time I won't be needing your directions, cause I expect it to be clearly visible in the skyline by then :D

CharlotteJ January 16th, 2012, 06:34 PM wow.... absolutely truly amazing .... I JUST LOVE THIS ONE ...
in fact, if I just envision the moment it is constructed and standing tall along with one of my most favorite towers in Paris, next to it, I can only think of one symphony to be played:
Karmina Burana by Carl Orff and just enjoy the view!!!
Jex7844 January 19th, 2012, 01:46 AM Yeap CharlotteJ :).
In addition to being an original tower with a decent height/lovely modern design & a pretty interesting cladding (at last), it's going to bring some balance to the skyline of La Défense (view from the Champs Elysées for instance). Indeed, there are so many projects under construction or planned on the right hand side (Courbevoie) that a major project was needed on the left hand side (in Puteaux). ;) I now wish that the outstanding Osmose tower will see the light in Puteaux in the next few years, no matter how long it can take, this tower is too gorgeous not to get built...
CharlotteJ January 19th, 2012, 07:31 PM Yes true. I have been staying at a hotel in Puteaux area and if you then enter La Defence it can really impress one when a few 50+ floor skyscrapers can welcome one onto the area. Like I said, two or three 250meters or one 300meters tall building in the area will definitly add up to its charm.
And viewed from Champs Elysée it sure does make the whole picture more than just perfect.
