BMXican June 7th, 2007, 10:07 PM nice one.
I wonder why they used the skyline of minneapolis as a background in the first two pics. it's not like bangkok doesn't have it's own skyline.
Myster E June 7th, 2007, 10:28 PM Nice and original design, but it doesn't look anywhere near 235 metres in the renders. Either the designer of the concept render made the cars big, or the tower itself small. I opt for the latter
tanzirian June 8th, 2007, 05:49 AM Very nice tower. Manages to be pleasingly asymmetric...which is something many buildings try to do, but not succeed.

I am still very impressed with The City Of Angels and I've been there 5 times over the past 10 years. I love the photos of the modern highrise buildings going up next to some charming old style temple with the layered roofs and the elegant chedi spires. A contrast of modern Thailand and old Siam!

napoleon September 25th, 2009, 12:41 PM Grand design for Bangkok completes
http://static.worldarchitecturenews.com/project/uploaded_files/11632_centara7main.JPG
Bangkok skyline transformed by architectural hotel and convention center
Designed by BBG-BBGM and Tandem Architects, the Centara Grand tower has now completed to transform the Bangkok skyline. Integrated into a multipurpose podium, in addition to the hotel public floors, this large volume houses parking floors and extensive convention facilities.
The iconic hotel tower soars high above the podium to take its place as a landmark building in the Bangkok skyline. The mass of the podium is a succession of concentric circles layered around the tower shaft. The glass and metal cylinder rises directly from the street to a height of approximately 210 meters. Its architectural expression consists of an arrangement of horizontal banding overlaid onto a strong vertical framework. Dynamism and the play of transparency versus solidity are the hallmarks of the overall design. These elements combine to create a building whose lightness belies its large mass.
The architecture at the top of the tower unfolds into a dramatic outer shell, culminating in two elongated arches inspired by a young lotus flower blooming high above the water. The graceful architectural gesture evokes the harmony born out of disorder and will become an immediate urban landmark.

Cerulean May 20th, 2010, 08:10 PM Is this building ok after the recent protesters' attack? It was reported that the whole departmental store was burnt to ashes. How about the hotel tower?

why do you thai guys destroy your own city ? :bash:
going-higher May 21st, 2010, 09:55 AM ^^ I heard from some thai members said that the red shirts want a bigger mall  jk or maybe they don't really care
desertpunk May 21st, 2010, 10:32 AM Yeah that's really bad damage. It can be rebuilt but the whole mall and that shorter oval building will need to be gutted. It looks like the Central World Hotel wasn't affected that much except again, by smoke.
cHemon May 21st, 2010, 10:47 AM Centara Grand Hotel (Central World Hotel) got very little damaged.
roxasnobody May 21st, 2010, 11:02 AM OMG!

Karunel May 21st, 2010, 11:28 AM What a pity, that was a magnificent building. :/
Vrooms May 21st, 2010, 11:40 AM What a pity, that was a magnificent building. :/
It really was beautiful building probably one of Thailands best mall. I really don't get what their problem is? They are just ATTENTION SEEKERS i guess.....

desertpunk May 22nd, 2010, 07:13 AM Some more images. Smoke did affect the hotel.

Imperfect Ending May 22nd, 2010, 10:20 AM ^^ They're mainly people who don't live in Bangkok
yangkhm May 22nd, 2010, 11:12 AM Because People lost benefits, That why, become like those.
Jude12 May 22nd, 2010, 11:13 AM ^^ is that the tower or the dept. store only?
desertpunk May 22nd, 2010, 11:52 AM ^^ is that the tower or the dept. store only?
The mall looks like a near total loss, a small high rise building attached to it appears badly damaged, but the taller hotel building escaped significant damage. Chances are, smoke got into its ventilation system and a lot of furnishings and linens may have to go.
The seventh shape May 22nd, 2010, 01:41 PM The damage looks worse than I thought, totally gutted!! I don't know if that's the kind of thing that can be repaired, or if it will need to be totally demolished. But I hope the small highrise attached to it can be saved (I think there was a gym there), it's nice and has a nice wavey thing on the top that lights up at night. The glasswork around the other side of the building was gorgeous, what a pity! It's a scar that will take a long time to heal.
yangkhm May 22nd, 2010, 03:50 PM I plan to visit CW, shopping there, but now if I go shopping there, they have only bone of building to sell......
chinatown May 24th, 2010, 11:07 AM why didn't they bomb the Bayoke II tower? That tower is so ugly!
foadi May 24th, 2010, 11:10 AM why didn't they bomb the Bayoke II tower? That tower is so ugly!
king doesn't own the land underneath it
Ten June 5th, 2010, 04:34 AM king doesn't own the land underneath it
I think it's not because it's the king's land.
But most of buildings and companies burnt down were companies that has strong relationship with the government ( Democrat party) like Bangkok bank, CP group or oven CPN group.
Jim856796 June 5th, 2010, 01:10 PM why didn't they bomb the Bayoke II tower? That tower is so ugly!
The Baiyoke II hotel is not ugly. If it were artificially damaged, Thailand would have its own 9/11. That structure cannot be killed in any way.
skyscraper100 June 5th, 2010, 01:38 PM tsk tsk tsk. :ohno:
The seventh shape June 5th, 2010, 04:33 PM It seems like the fire services were very slow on the scene here. Didn't they not anticipate there could be fires with so many fireworks and explosions going on?
