Two Tampa Bay beaches ranked among nation's best
Tampa Bay Business Journal - 10:58 AM EDT Friday, June 8, 2007

Stephen Leatherman, also known as "Dr. Beach," has named Pinellas County's Caladesi Island State Park as the country's No. 2 beach on his list of America's Best Beaches for 2007.

Leatherman appeared on NBC's Today Show Friday morning with the list.

This is the second consecutive year Caladesi was named the No. 2 beach.

Caladesi is one of the last untouched barrier islands on Florida's Gulf Coast. The island offers a marina, picnic tables and boardwalks and is accessible only by boat.

Siesta Beach in Sarasota ranked No. 10 on the list.

Leatherman is a professor of environmental studies at Florida International University. He has been releasing his annual list of Top 10 Beaches in America since 1991. He ranks them on a variety of factors including water temperature, amount of noise, public safety, vegetation and sand softness.

My question is: Where was the number one beach?

^The number 1 beach was Ocracoke Lifeguard Beach in Outer Banks, North Carolina.

Here (http://www.drbeach.org/drbeach/press_release/Dr_Beach_2007_Top_Beaches.pdf) is a PDF to the top 10 list.

Thanks FF, It is nice to see that they did not include places like South Beach and Venice Beach. Interesting as it is, Siesta got ten. I wonder why.
