Singapor3 June 15th, 2007, 06:02 PM Holy shit, super nice stunts indeed.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the tickets, damn!
I would pay 250 bucks to watch it!! Thanks anyway, ndp..
ScaniaLuver June 15th, 2007, 06:07 PM that chinook pilot sure has got some great nerve to fly such a big dual rotor cooptor at such a low level!
believe or not , chinooks can land on water (water surface) .
RafflesCity June 16th, 2007, 05:10 AM This is really cool!

On Wednesday, the air force did about 3 fly-bys during lunch time.
Singapor3 June 16th, 2007, 05:12 AM believe or not , chinooks can land on water (water surface) .
I believe that's only during the vietnam war? Or today's chinooks can do that too?

RafflesCity June 16th, 2007, 05:51 AM cool shots....love how the jets creeped up so quietly and then start roaring as they soar upwards :-)
ScaniaLuver June 16th, 2007, 07:19 AM cool shots....love how the jets creeped up so quietly and then start roaring as they soar upwards :-)
believe it or not , the reason why the jet roar is because they have afterburner on . Take a closer look at the jet's exhaust stream . There is a flame behind it ; thats afterburner .
btw i tink modern chinooks can land on water as well , to permit hovercrafts to board the helicopter
eyetoeye June 16th, 2007, 10:58 AM Scarly they send u there for logistics.....:)
I don't i would like that very much.
Mr.ASAP June 16th, 2007, 04:59 PM anyone knows when will the F15-s take to the air?
Singapor3 June 16th, 2007, 06:52 PM anyone knows when will the F15-s take to the air?
Perhaps next year or the year after?
Really looking forward to having f-15s flying above our heads..
kurakura June 16th, 2007, 07:21 PM Perhaps next year or the year after?
Really looking forward to having f-15s flying above our heads..
i tot singapore has f16s instead?
Mr.ASAP June 16th, 2007, 08:19 PM they are currently using F16, the F15 were purchased over the EF2000 to replace singapore's aging A4 skyhawks :)
so we might see F15 next year ?
and maybe several years down the road, F35 instead of F16
kurakura June 17th, 2007, 02:26 AM How about F22 Raptors ? :D
Singapor3 June 17th, 2007, 06:09 AM How about F22 Raptors ? :D
Doubt so, don't think U.S would love to share their new technology with others =X
And yeah, f-35s, can't wait for it. These aircrafts will beat the hell out of migs and sukois.

I hope singapore will use those babies to 'expand' its territory :D
Andrew June 18th, 2007, 11:17 AM believe or not , chinooks can land on water (water surface) .
Can't you load them with boats and land them in the water so that the boats can just sail out of the cargo hold? That's what I heard anyway.
Mr.ASAP June 18th, 2007, 11:53 AM Can't you load them with boats and land them in the water so that the boats can just sail out of the cargo hold? That's what I heard anyway.
yes using the US new hovercraft-boat hybrid, its possible :) perhaps NDP should feature that as well! those boats loaded form the chinook onto the water with fireworks cannons :D
Lifestyle-1881 June 20th, 2007, 01:59 PM Here are the pics from this evening practice drill. Was changing card when the roaring fighter jets went pass close range :-( Will get next day :-)
http://lifestyle.smugmug.com/photos/164910365-L.jpg
Baby June 20th, 2007, 03:40 PM Are they doing the practice everyday or every Wednesday ?
I was at the open space on top of Raffles MRT today around 6pm and a huge thunder roar frightened everybody. People thought it's gonna rain but the sky was bright and no lightning.
eyetoeye June 20th, 2007, 04:05 PM Seems to be every Wednesday, though i don't know for sure. All i know is every wednesday evening the skies over my house are unusually active.

eyetoeye June 20th, 2007, 06:07 PM Wow. Finally the coast guard gets its turn to show off a little.
RafflesCity June 21st, 2007, 02:51 AM The construction site at the Sands is a huge mess!
Singapor3 June 21st, 2007, 06:57 AM Great pictures of NDP rehersal..
I saw 4 Apaches flying past while I was on my sister's car at AMK, they were like everywhere!
ndp June 21st, 2007, 10:14 AM Nice pics too.
I saw 4 Apaches flying past while I was on my sister's car at AMK, they were like everywhere!
Ya me too they seems to be everywhere, from my house at a glance I saw 6 Apaches and 10 F-16.
Singapor3 June 21st, 2007, 12:44 PM Whoa 10 F-16s? Where?
Baby June 21st, 2007, 03:42 PM In the past parade at Padang, it's usually the Army & Armour that show it's strength.
The next 5 years at Marina Bay NDP, Navy will be the spot light !!!
Navy should also show off it's submarine..... as Airforce shows it's Apache this year.
Baby June 21st, 2007, 03:46 PM Sail can see the helicopters fly below...fantastic....what happen if somebody throw a stone at them ?
Next time, Sail's owner can rent out $600-$1000 a day for the NDP parade.... as hot as those hotel bay facing.

what was it?
Maverick713 June 22nd, 2007, 05:40 AM In the past parade at Padang, it's usually the Army & Armour that show it's strength.
The next 5 years at Marina Bay NDP, Navy will be the spot light !!!
Navy should also show off it's submarine..... as Airforce shows it's Apache this year.
The submarines cannot enter Marina Bay leh..... they can only stay off the coast of Marina South, too far away from the action at the NDP staging area.
eyetoeye June 22nd, 2007, 09:37 AM Yeah waters probably too shallow.
Alternatively, the commentators could just claim the submarines are there but underwater, hence showing off Singapore's new stealth combat capabilities!
Maverick713 June 22nd, 2007, 04:42 PM Yeah waters probably too shallow.
Alternatively, the commentators could just claim the submarines are there but underwater, hence showing off Singapore's new stealth combat capabilities!
The water there is not too shallow as the Marina Bay was previously the sea and a harbour for big ships before land reclamation made it look like a small lake. The problem now is the Marina Barrage .... no big ships or submarines can go through that obstacle.
Singapore's true stealth navy ships are actually above water, not below.

Singapor3 June 28th, 2007, 04:17 AM Looks great..
Baby June 28th, 2007, 08:05 AM If you had seen the last Saturday NDP rehearsal, the boats were dragging 6 to 7 yellow huge balloons to-and-fro on the Marina Bay...... Those ballons were so spooky, like ghost fires floating above Marina Bay at dark. Who knows what's the purpose of those balloons ?
I was actually surprise that they have parashutes this year despite the smaller platform. However. those parashutes were drop down pretty late in the evening when the Marina Bay is dark. It was amazing they managed to drop so accurately on the floating platform....probably using the flood lights and the laser beam at the floating platform as guidance.
eyetoeye June 29th, 2007, 01:35 PM What do you guys think about this year's NDP songs? I keep hearing them on the radio and it's terribly annoying. Home was the last nice one. Everything after that..

Never listen to radio for a long time......:)
Any places to download?? :colgate:
Singapor3 June 29th, 2007, 03:29 PM you can download it from the NDP website..
Both are nice, but I prefer "Will You"
eyetoeye July 1st, 2007, 06:50 AM Will you is slightly better, admittedly. Still, the lyrics are always so transparent it's really upsetting.

The podium rooftop carpark deck of High Street Centre had been turned into some garden and recreation thingy. :(

I was there last night too, was at the green sector, but my pics are all blurry, cos I didn't bring my tripod and my hands are not stable.:(
I love those fisheye pics, especially of the kites!
hyacinthus July 29th, 2007, 03:56 AM Thanks. So glad that I have an opportunity to go yesterday too :)
littlearea July 29th, 2007, 01:09 PM Who want to create banner for aug 9?
hyacinthus July 29th, 2007, 02:08 PM I totally abhor it when some people just conveniently ask other people to do it. Why don't they try it themselves. It's just a lame excuse to say they can't do it when they don't even bother to try. :soapbox:
There are other ways of showing patriotism like wearing Singapore flag / skyline pics as their avatars if they can't create a banner.

Great show, isn't it? :)
RafflesCity July 29th, 2007, 04:29 PM I was actually quite impressed with the show, for the first time, I feel that the whole bay, the surrounding bridges and the skyscrapers were active participants in creating the visual effects, together with the use of water fountains...it was refreshingly different :)
I was somewhere in the middle of the yellow sector, but fortunate to be smack in front of the platform.

Flag waving is fun for a while.
But, it blocks the view when taking pictures. It's worse if people in front of you stand up.
RafflesCity July 29th, 2007, 04:35 PM It was addictive, unfortunately, no flag-waving for me as I had a lot of stuff to juggle. The person next to me was very patriotic though and I had to be careful

LittlePig July 30th, 2007, 07:56 AM were the rifles loaded?
what do you think, kurakura? :)
without delving into too much tech specs, the singapore-made SAR21 is very very accurate... a bobo shooter like me can get 9/10 at the 100m range on my very first live firing without my spectacles on (i'm myopic)... it takes a little getting used to especially for old-timers who grew up using the M16A1...
Maverick713 July 30th, 2007, 08:23 AM were the rifles loaded?
These guys looked like they were blind-folded. Hope they can see where they are going or someone might get poked by their muzzles.

So good meh? Must be due to the telescopic sight. I remembered once hitting a perfect 100% score from 300m with the M16 at my first 300m range during BMT. Never achieved that score again in subsequent practices no matter how hard I tried to control my breathing or the recoil etc.
LittlePig July 30th, 2007, 08:38 AM are they muzzles or blank attachments? can't really see from the pics...
Baby July 30th, 2007, 03:07 PM Why they wear the night vision goggle at day time ? So funny ?
Baby July 30th, 2007, 03:09 PM The tourists were asking why Singapore soldiers are mostly 4 eyes (spec) ?

Wow, you must be a sniper, haha. Yes, its due to the telescopic sight that requires zero zeroing... if you know what i mean :)
My 9 out of 10 was achieved without any breathing control, triger control, or any other correct techniques... just any how shoot...
LittlePig July 30th, 2007, 03:56 PM Why they wear the night vision goggle at day time ? So funny ?
Baby, if you look closer, only the 2nd Sergeant was wearing the night vision goggle... the NVG and normal goggles are used to make them soldiers look cool! But in actual ops, soldiers do have to wear them in certain situations. :)

well, if you ever watched any hollywood war-related movies, you'd realise that the soldiers (especially the high-ranking commanders) have absolutly no intelligence what so ever. so i guess that puts singapore somewhere right?
(of course those are r exagerated)

Erm. Family connections. Not supposed to discuss them.
@all: Thanks! I didn't take any fireworks pictures, however, because my camera was sort of angled the wrong way and it was hard to turn it up without getting lots of reflections. My dad might have been able to achieve something, though.

Baby August 18th, 2007, 09:51 AM Part of celebrating the Ghost festivals ? I always find it weird when the firework festivals are held during the ghost month.... for the human as well as the invisible brothers to enjoy ?
Burning multi millions $$$ for fireworks - NDP rehearsals + NDP + 2 sessions of firework festivals + New Years (both).
Could had used to help bridge the growing income gap, subsidise higher medical concern and supplement annuity on the ageing problems .... Singapore is one very rich nation that has the most old people working in fast foods ( Mcdonnel, Burger king, etc ) and food court as well as cleaners all over the places.

Everytime I see the old workers still working hard, I am so mad worried that I may follow their steps.
I'm even more worried now when LKY said in his NDP speech yesterday that retirement age will have to go up from 62 to 65 and then 67. Means can only start draw down CPF minimum sum at 67 !
I wish I could take out all my special and medical account balance now to invest in the hot property and retire early.
Instead of his recommendation of "cpf draw down age = life expectancy - 20 years", I wish I could "retire at age = cpf draw down age - 20 years".
